Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Restaurant and Spa

"Dorset is one of the U.K.’s most picture-perfect counties—well, it would be, being Hardy country—and the Summer Lodge is one of its most idyllic locations. The original Georgian mansion was expanded to plans by architect and author Thomas Hardy  back in 1893, with four acres of gardens packed with flowers, colors, wisteria, roses, and yews. It’s all been modernized of course, the restaurant a big pull in the area, and the spa with its pool and extensive range of treatments another. Then there are the 18 rooms and six luxury suites designed with the countryside seat of an Earl in mind (very Downton Abbey)—rich fabrics, elegant furnishings, crisp Belgian linens, and even hot water bottles. It all adds up to a romantic notion of time long gone and the perfect place for a get-away-from-it-all sojourn."

I really don't know where to start with this review. Everything and I mean everything was just perfect. The room (23) in the coach house was superb. Bed was extremely comfortable, room was immaculately clean, it had controlled heating/air conditioning that you could regulate, it was very peaceful, fruit, chocolates, biscuits and water in the room. The staff were all particularly friendly and helpful especially Philip and Louise in the restaurant. Breakfast was good and evening meal was exceptional with staff being very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Cream tea with mine being gluten free scone was the best I have had anywhere. I can't even think of one constructive thing to say as it was all just perfect. Congratulations on such a wonderful hotel and making our stay so pleasurable. We will most definitely be back as we really enjoyed our anniversary break.

We spent a long weekend here for a special celebration with some close friends. We booked three of the cottages which were all different and all charming. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathrooms equipped with luxurious towels and toiletries. There were welcome drinks and a lovely bowl of fresh fruit on arrival. In our cottage we enjoyed the fire and a very comfortable sitting room. We used the hot tub attached to our cottage one afternoon, it was well-equipped and the room heated.||We took breakfast in the main house, with a very good choice of dishes available to set us up for each day. On the first evening we dined in the main house. The meal was outstanding, certainly worthy of a Michelin star. With this dinner we chose the flight of wines suggested to accompany each dish, an excellent decision and avoided a compromise on choosing wines by the bottle. The second evening we ate in the Acorn Inn, another delicious dinner and a relaxed setting for the evening.||The service in the hotel and the inn was unfailingly good.||A couple of our friends brought their labrador and she was given a warm welcome with treats provided in their cottage.||We would certainly return!

Summer Lodge is a wonderful find in the middle of rural Dorset. We were welcomed most warmly by Kat on reception and informed we'd been given a complimentary upgrade to our room, which was most welcome and generous as we'd had to book a couple of nights away at the last minute due to the cancellation of another long-anticipated holiday. The hotel is very well appointed, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful (gardeners, spa team, bar, restaurant housekeeping and front of house) and the pool, spa and massage facilities were lovely. The food was excellent too! Though normally well outside our price range for a short break the whole experience was greatly restorative and well worth going. Thanks to the whole Red Carnation team. Thoroughly recommended!

Stunning hotel. Fantastic rooms, great food. Lovely location with guided walks that are easy to follow if you want to get out. Staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. It was my birthday and they made me feel really special. Pool area and spa was great. Will definitely be back. Fabulous.

We've just come back from a few days at Summer Lodge and we can thoroughly recommend it. It's a real country house hotel in pretty gardens in a lovely part of the country. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. Our room was large and well-appointed. |It did not surprise us to learn that many of the guests are regulars - we may well join them!

What a gem of a place. The perfect weekend away. Staff are outstanding, you really feel part of their family and they go above and beyond for you. The house and grounds are stunning and made me so proud of our gorgeous little island! Dinner was out of this world. Rooms are lovely, spa is good if not a little on the small side. Had an amazing facial. We'll be back!

We had two nights to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The village of Evershot is quintessentially English. On approach the Hotel doesn’t look that special. The car park is small and there’s a train by Reception desk. |The room (prestige) was roomy and looked expensive. The walls and wardrobes had a soft to the touch textile feel. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was no noise. I ordered a paper and it was delivered in a textile bag. The toilet paper (an important criteria on standards for me) was large snd thickish. |There is a small intimate Restaurant with excellent service especially from Rashford (not his real name but he is a United supporter). I was disappointed in the menu - there was a choice of 4 starters and mains. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the choices especially at £70 for two courses. Instead I had a sirloin from the Terrace menu which was very good. We had a meal in the Acorn in. The previous night (a sister property 200 yards down the High St. it was a much better menu and better value. |To acknowledge our 50th the Hotel gave us 4 chocolates and a rose for my wife. Given that we were paying over a £1000 for the two nights we thought it would have been more appropriate to have given a bottle of fizz. |This conclude it was a lovely Hotel in a lovely setting. The service was outstanding but I would recommend you dine in the Acorn where the choices were better and superior value for money

My daughter gifted a voucher to my wife and I as a Birthday gift for a cream tea at summer lodge. We sat down expecting a lovely treat. On being served we noticed that 2 of the scones were savoury cheese scones that are not compatible for a cream tea .We asked for them to be exchanged for normal scones. The server returned a considerable time later with 2 fresh ones that were completely inedible. Raw in the middle. Very disappointed. It was a 85 mile round trip. No offer for a refund. Very disappointed as we thought we were in for a very special treat.will not be going back any time soon.

Yelp
Wonderful - We stayed for four nights recently and our only criteria for choosing them was that they were dog friendly and we love Dorset but we really made an excellent choice. Evershot is a little piece of heaven and Summer lodge is the perfect place from which to experience it . I loved the home-made shortbread and the fresh apricots placed in our room every day, the service was excellent and yet unobtrusive, and the breakfasts an absolute joy. The swimming pool was a bonus too - it was nice to have a quick dip before breakfast and before going out in the evening, pure luxury. We will definitely stay there again.
