Cafes might look like Summermoon, but rest assured they are truly a coffee bar. Texas BBQ often touts their quality of meats as well as the wood they fire it up through. Wood plays an important role in the Summermoon process as well, as they cite it to be the reason their product tastes so good. Who knew that roasteries could enjoy a touch of wooden goodness?
I don't like to buy into popular whatever / hype, but Summermoon deserves all the praise it can get. It has a lovely location, a quick and efficient staff, and a hell of a product. One sip of their signature Summermoon latte and I was completely hooked. This is coming from a guy who doesn't even really love coffee but I had to get another cup here. There is a certain flavor I can't pinpoint, but an addicting quality to it. Wood-fired coffee indeed!
One thing I like even more than that is their moon milk. It is everything they described: creamy, sweet, and rich. While I don't know what the 7 "secret" ingredients are, I would make this the drink to get. I would also say yes to their smoothies as well, and their milkshakes, and other coffee flavored drinks. I can't say I haven't had a drink I didn't like.
While I admittedly haven't tried their hot food, I can say their "lick" ice cream flavors are quite good. There aren't a lot of flavors and that makes it real simple for the rest of us: moon milk, mocha moon, vanilla bean, salted caramel, along with vegan options as well. It is a good treat during hot weather days.
They have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating. WiFi is fast and there is parking for days. If I had to knock anything, it might be the prices but I'd rather pay more for this than pay less for mediocre. While I wish I had one of these where I live, it gives me more reason to come back to Austin.
