As a Santa Barbara local who strongly believes in patronizing our small business community, I decided to give this winery a chance last December. I purchased a small bottle of modest white wine, basically a chardonnay, for the whopping price of $37.54. Again, I justified this out of a desire to support our local businesses. The wine was a disappointment; not better than anything you could buy at the supermarket in the $8 -$12 range. Still, in February I needed a few bottles to gift some friends, so, once again, I figured that I would give my business to someone local. Once again, I drove from Santa Barbara to Summerland.
On arriving, I found the staff all sheeped up with cloth masks (yes, the ones that, after two years of being told to wear any face covering, we're now told don't work and never did). On walking in, my greeting consisted of being told that I couldn't remain inside without a mask. Yes, I did take the time to inform them that I was a repeat customer and I believed in supporting their business. No, they did not engage in any attempt to think creatively, such as simply offering to move the transaction outside, something they now do with their tastings (apparently under the belief that tasting wine inside will cause everyone to drop dead - even though everyone else seems to agree that the still-dreaded COVID suddenly becomes non-transmissible inside once people are seated). I walked out. Yes, I did contact them directly through their website to explain my disgust with their lack of commitment to the customers who are committed to supporting them. This site promises a response, which, of course, was not forthcoming (what a surprise).
Overall, you can expect over-priced mediocre wine, poor service, and a lack of reciprocity for supporting your local merchants. You will, however, be treated to a healthy dose of leftist ideology. Come here if you enjoy that sort of thing. Otherwise, spend your time and money at one of the many, many other wineries that pervade this part of California.
