Yelp
Waldo has plenty of dining competition, so something has to set a place apart. Summit Grill has kind of a niche with its 'American' fare, and they're getting that done pretty darn well.
The hook for me is the happy hour, which runs daily from 3-6 (in the bar only) with some great shareables and cocktail offerings. If you are here to dine, then just know you've got a fair range of options. You can get with the turf (pork chop or steak options) or try your palate with some surf, such as Atlantic salmon or my choice, the seafood mac n' cheese, which is pretty good, but we *are* in the Midwest. So yeah, the scallops are bay scallops and the shrimp is like 51-60 sized, but this dish is well-executed and ample in portion size. The Mrs. opted for the Chicken & Goat Cheese salad, with grilled strips and these AMAZING croquettes of goat cheese that are lightly breaded and fried. Those are just the best, and they could make an appetizer out of the croquettes alone - they're that good.
Our server, Bri, was so fabulous, making for a great date night. My old-fashioned was pretty on point, joining Four Roses bourbon splashed with just the right amount of sweetness. We added in a Wedge Salad as an 'appetizer' and that's like the only time I get with iceberg lettuce, but this is a sensational melange of flavor. Bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, and diced tomato adorn the wedge and it's scrumptious. Well, for a salad. Great lead-in for dinner, too, and I highly recommend.
Parking is, well, Waldo, so do what you can. Happy hour is a total winner, with plenty of local hooch represented (Tom's Town, anyone?) and great specialty drinks. It's not quite five-star but it's north of four and Yelp doesn't do halfsies, unfortunately. Just know you can expect good fare in a nice place with great service, and stars schmars - give Summit Grill a try.
