This burger is AMAZING. Get it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, that’s how good it was. Our server Tara was absolutely fantastic, walked us through the menu and told us everything we NEEDED to get. Can not recommend Hotel Del and the Sun Deck more. Even better if you get Tara as your server.

Had a lovely dinner here after visiting Coronado for the day on a San Diego business trip. It was just getting dark and they had the fire pits on around our table to add to the atmosphere. I had the double cheeseburger, which was pretty nice. Hope to come back and stay at the hotel some time.

You can sit at a table/bar over looking the ocean. Also they have huge couch booths for larger parties. Great place to bring outta town-ers. For dessert enjoy the Gelato/ice-cream store back at the hotel.

First time to Coronado , and stopped in this place . The hotel look was super awesome ! Loved the super colonial interiors and the overall look . It is very very expensive though. There was a bar inside but we decided to sit outside , bear the pool . The waiter was a bit slow but made sure he took care of us . They had flew varieties of beer and IPAs . Got hazy ipa and it was good . It was very expensive though .had to spend 14$ for an ipa and we spent about 50$ for 3 of us , one drink each ! Absolutely expensive : the overall ambience was ok though. Nice view of beach and pool . 3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️

Sat down at the Sun Deck bar and great experience. Ordered an Aperol Spritz and kinda small portions but great taste. Beautiful view and Hunter the bartender was friendly.

We had a great time eating a light lunch and enjoying drinks taking in the beautiful scenery. Server was great!

Google
The lounge areas facing the beach have a $175 minimum and a 2 hour maximum. Parties of 6 or more have a gratuity automatically added according to the menu. We were a party of 5 and sat ourselves at a lounge area with a fire pit on a lovely, warm February day. We waited for a long time for service, ordered non- alcohol drinks and then waited forever to order our food. We started to get up and go to the taco stand on the beach when the waitress came and took our order. Then we waited and waited for the food. I believe we were there for 2 hours before getting food and only got one drink. The burger and fries were cold. Not even just luke warm, but cold. The Asian salad was good, the shrimp bowl was good. It was pricey and the gratuity was added automatically to the charges, paid $247

Google
We ordered from the kids' menu, along with dessert and non-alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately, the bread and cheese were cold and not tasty. Additionally, the plate and utensils were not clean, and we even noticed a small hair on them. The view was nice, though I should mention that the construction nearby took away from the experience. And had to request plastic utensils set

Yelp
An idyllic place to have a drink or meal in San Diego. The views from Sun Deck are unmatched. The view of the ocean amongst the beautiful Hotel Del and the beach was delightful. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I had to dock a star because the prices are unreasonable. For one soda and one burger total (which we split), our bill came to $50 with tip. Just astronomical. I'd love to come back, but I'm not at all a fan of the prices.

Yelp
I had lunch with my family here while our room was being readied and I have to admit it was good ( expensive just because it's resort dining and the view) and satisfying! We had the Del burger double cheese and fries and my wife had the shrimp tostadas while my mother in law got the fish sandwich. The portions are pretty large and be sure to snag a table with an umbrella for shade - I was surprised there weren't that many shaded tables for a large resort ( same for the pool area) but it was sufficient Pro tip the kids burger is cheaper with one less meat patty but enough for a kid up to 13 years old - anything to save you money ! The service was great the two times I ate there and everyone was nice and cordial - didn't have to wait that long - I added photos of the tacos from the taco shack as a bonus review and tbh I would skip it - for $12 you get a smallish taco just not worth it you will will be hungry! Love Hotel Del for so many things but for cheaper food definitely check out the local restaurants for better bargains

Yelp
The Sun Deck also serves the pool where are utilize their services for five days this past June. Note, the pool is a vintage rectangle which has been there forever and suits the remodeled vintage hotel perfectly! Classic chaise lounges abound. All the food we had from the salads to the chips and salsa were good! My wife is a light eater and they let her order the kid's menu stuff which was very accommodating.... Drinks all week were good but because they were at the pool were served in plastic.. Overall, a fantastic place to spend hours and hours of your day ....

Yelp
Yum. Burger was better than I was expecting. Attentive service too. Wish I could've had a cocktail but I've gotta work soon. Oh, and check out that view! The seagulls were singing!

Yelp
No-fuss menu, all the bases covered for a casual meal, and the service is quite good considering you just sit wherever you want. Not sure how they keep track, but we never had trouble getting anything we needed. We split a couple of mains - a single plate is plenty per person, and they even cut everything in half for us to share. The Del Double Cheeseburger is a nice burger, nothing to complain about. I'm always weary of ordering fish, but their San Diego Fish Sandwich is fine. The rockfish breading is crispy, and the fish tasted reasonably fresh. For a similar price point, I think I prefer Eno Pizzeria, but the Sun Deck is a reasonable alternative if you don't want to eat every meal at Eno.

Yelp
This. Place. Rules. Play tourist for a day and enjoy your city - we live in SD. While I didn't go through all of the reviews I do see that Sun Deck does not carry a stellar rating but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's for the prices. News flash: It's expensive. YOU'RE IN CORONADO, DUMMY. This place lives, breathes, and encompasses San Diego. The boardwalk, the glitz, the glam, the fashion show, the beach, the cocktails... it's simply stunning. If I were rich I'd probably be here all of the time, buying drinks for beautiful hotel guests and slugging pricey drinks and beach food. So, this is my suggestion. Splurge a little and love your city a lot... go to Sun Deck.

Yelp
The Sun Deck at the Del is beautiful and classy. I typically find my husband here when he comes with me on a business trip. He loves to hang out here and work and enjoy some fries or a few bourbons. The menu is pretty good for a bar. But this is no normal bar. This place overlooks the Pacific Ocean in a prime spot on the beach. During nice weather, which is almost always, they throw open every door and its open air and beach and waves. Try the fries. Very good.

Yelp
Omg place is amazing. Loved the vegan options I got the salad here most of the evenings of vacation. The tofu you can add (I think I got the Thai salad) it's SO GOOD!! Get two of them. I always did and still wanted more. Service fast friendly and the food came out so fast every night. Having had 4 meals here over the course of 4 days I can highly recommend- must try w great views too.

Yelp
Food: what my party had ordered was great. The brussel sprouts and chicken flatbread starters were great, my sand-which the ginger soy chicken (pictured here) was absolutely delcious. The brioche bun was sweet and fluffy, the chicken was flavored well, and the pickled radish and other greens on top made it that much better. The service was extremely slow and not personable. The view was gorgeous, and it is very clean. There were a lot of people with dogs.

Yelp
Exactly what I was hoping for at Hotel Coronado! The patio seating offered stunning ocean views, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxing evening. DJ was playing live music which paired perfectly with the views. I ordered the Baja shrimp entrée -- it was absolutely delicious. My cocktail not only complemented the flavorful meal but was beautifully presented as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I came here for lunch. The sign says to sit wherever you want and a server will come to you. We sat down and no one came. I flagged down a server to ask for a menu and they told me since we are at a circular table near the bar we have to order from the bar. We did that. Then a table directly next to us with an umbrella opened up so we attempted to move there because my husband was getting too hot and wanted to be in the shade. It was the perfect table- half sun for me, half shade for him. Same great view. A server was extremely rude to us and made a huge fuss about us moving. She indirectly was saying we couldn't sit there because then she wouldn't get a tip because we already paid at the bar. I had to play 20 questions with her. She said we needed to transfer our bill. I said okay how do we do that. She said you'd have to start the new tab with the server and transfer your bill. I said okay, so are you saying I go get a refund and then ring it up again? She then said oh you're not going to order more? I said no, I'm eating 1 lunch today not 2. She was so rude, waved us away and told us to go talk to the bartender, and then immediately GAVE AWAY the table to the family that walked up and asked if they could sit there as we were still standing there discussing with her. We followed her advice and asked the bartender if we could move. The bartender was extremely friendly and said of course no problem- they will bring the food to our new table. Well since she already gave away the table we had to pick a different one that was fully in the shade and next to the kitchen so it was LOUD and COLD. That server tainted my experience and made me so mad I will never go back to this restaurant, nor will I stay at this hotel (which we were considering for our next trip!).

Yelp
Great views, great vibes, great service. Their fries are surprisingly good, crispy on the outside. Fish sandwich and double cheeseburger were excellent choices. Smokey sunburn cocktail with mezcal was good, the endless summer cocktail with lychee and st Germain was better.

Yelp
Overall Rating: 4.2/5 Ambiance and Atmosphere (5/5) * This place has a classy, beachy vibe with plenty of outdoor seating options. * You've got bar seating, regular tables and chairs, and even sofa-style lounging areas (if you're ready to spend $250). * The views are incredible--beach and ocean on one side, the iconic Hotel Del Coronado on the other. It's the perfect spot for a sunset. Food Quality (4/5) * We mostly went for drinks at sunset, but my wife tried the empanadas and thoroughly enjoyed them. * The drinks were well-made and looked just as you'd expect for an upscale spot like this. Menu Variety (4/5) * The menu isn't huge, but it's not a full restaurant, so small bites and appetizers dominate the options. * My wife was able to swap beef for chicken in her empanadas - nice touch. * There's a good variety of drinks on the menu, and the bartenders can pretty much whip up anything you ask for. Service (5/5) * The service here was excellent, both at the bar and from the floor staff. * They were friendly, attentive, and genuine care felt like they were resort-level quality. You could tell they enjoyed their work, and that made the experience even better. * They really focused on making sure guests were happy. Value for Money (3/5) * The food is a bit pricey, and the drinks are definitely on the expensive side. * A Kettle One with soda and a margarita cost around $45-$47. It's steep, but not surprising for a spot with views like this. * At the end of the day, you're paying for that gorgeous sunset, and if that's what you're here for, it's worth it. The views, vibe, and great service make this a spot we'd visit again, especially to catch the sunset (see photos)

Yelp
Immaculate vibes! There really isn't a better way to spend a day in San Diego than soaking up the sun and vibes at the Del's sun deck. We had beverages and appetizers, all of which were delicious. The rock fish cru was amazing!!

Yelp
I'm back again!! So excited to see the renovations completed and back on the deck where we belong. There is nothing better than chilling on a lounge in front of a fire pit and looking at the beautiful beach while dining. We got a pitcher of margaritas- delish as always, the double cheeseburger, loaded fries and fish sandwich. We were stuffed. I'll be back sometime this week! Amanda was our server and she was very sweet and gracious. Love everything about the Sun Deck!

Yelp
You pay for the view. California bowl was disappointing, the fries were ok. When I mentioned the avocado was brown, the server removed it from the final bill.

Yelp
Ben was a wonderful server/ person! He was attentive, knowledgeable, and recommended our new favorite appetizer, the chicken flatbread! He was a joy and made our experience wonderful! Give him a raise! Haha

Yelp
In all honesty, there are not many choices in Coronado Island, because almost everywhere is private. But, this place checked all my boxes: food, drinks, bathroom (although that was a bit of a walk inside to the hotel). I wanted a cheeseburger, but not a double burger, so asked for a single and was later surprised the waiter dropped the price down from 26 to 17 (kid's burger!) My absolutely delightful specialty cocktail was their take on a pina colada. The service was fantastic and the view of the Pacific was perfect. I loved the choices of seating, tables or sofas.

Yelp
Sun Deck is a beautiful place to sit by the beach, people watch, have a drink and relax. The food was pretty good too. A little on the pricey and but was totally worth it. The staff was great too!!
google avatar

Yelp
Tacky tourist trap. Only positive is the view. Seat yourself, and the worst overall service I've experienced in a while. Food customizations were forgotten, and we were barely checked on. Tables were not cleaned between parties, garbage and food on the floor. Extremely bland food. Save yourself the disappointment and money, avoid this place.

Yelp
We decided to spend the day on Coronado Island and ended up at the iconic Hotel Del. There was a beautiful wedding ceremony happening in the outside area of the hotel, so we made our way to the Sun Deck to enjoy some drinks and food while taking in the view. There was no host or signage to greet or seat us, so we grabbed a table on our own. Luckily, we found a great spot facing the beach and the ceremony. The view from the Sun Deck is absolutely stunning--definitely one of the highlights. The open-air layout, cozy lounge seating for larger groups, and a mix of tall and short tables for smaller parties make the setup both versatile and inviting. Our waitress came by shortly after, welcomed us, and dropped off menus. We ordered drinks--a piña colada for me and a cucumber vodka cocktail for my wife. My drink was enjoyable, but my wife wasn't too impressed with hers. We also ordered the loaded fries as an appetizer. One of the runners brought it out quickly, which was great, but when I asked for utensils and napkins, he said our waitress would bring them. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting quite a while before we could actually enjoy the food. The loaded fries were tasty and a good portion, but the delay in getting something as simple as utensils left a bad impression. Due to the service, we decided not to order a full meal. While the ambiance and setting are top-notch, the service and overall experience didn't match the premium pricing. This seems to be a recurring issue with tourist-driven spots--high traffic, low repeat customers, and sometimes less emphasis on consistency. This wasn't our first visit to the Sun Deck, and to be fair, we've had better experiences in the past. But service seems to be hit or miss, and the food, while decent, doesn't always feel like it lives up to the location and price point. Final thoughts: If you're there for the view and a casual drink, it's worth a stop. But if you're looking for top-tier service and food to match the prices, your experience may vary. We just hope they can work on being more consistent, especially with basics like prompt service and attention to guest needs.

Yelp
Surprisingly expensive, surprisingly delicious, with not so surprising views. The humus veggie platter was insanely good - not sure what they do to those veggies but I'd be a vegetarian if I could replicate. The chicken empanada was savory and delicious. I really enjoyed sitting on the rooftop watching the ocean and world go by.
google avatar

Noelle H.

Yelp
Great service, great food, and great view! You can't go wrong dining anywhere at the Del. It's definitely a little pricey, but you get what you pay for!
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
While visiting Hotel Del Coronado Hotel during lunch hour, we decided to try the Sun Deck and found a near the glass windows patio sofa seating with minimal charge of $200. After the provided menu, we have decided to order the following dishes: - Torched Salmon - Good, portion is small but tasted good. - Togarashi Shrimp - CA Mezze Plate - Great, great fermented Veggie dish with Pita bread. - Asian Salad - Good, it was a good mixture of fresh green with some asian flavor and sesame oil. - Pork Bibimbap - It was ok, a little salty but ok flavor. - Pina Colada Virgin X 4 Overall food and view are decent, you don't want to rush if you come to Sun Deck it is pretty busy but servers are pretty attentive. Food might take longer due to large demand. The view is great but window glasses should be cleaned more often.

Yelp
BOMB FOOD!! Food was so good and the service was fast and everyone was so nice! The view was incredible and was a dream restaurant.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
I visited Hotel Del Coronado Hotel during New Year weekend and decided to have lunch at Sun Deck since there was an empty spot next to the beach. Then, the server told us that there was a minimum charge of $200 for that spot. Since we were tired and hungry, we decided to stay and try. The view was great! You can see the beach and ocean from our table, it has a fire pit to warm us as well since it was really cold that day which was great. The food was great here, just some of the dishes' portion were small. Torched Salmon ($33) was delicious! Togarashi Shrimp ($38) was excllent! CA Mezze Plate ($28) was good. Asian Salad ($23) was great. Pork Bibimbap ($33 ) was great! Overall, the food here was delicious! The service was good, but it's kinda slow. I guess because of so many visitors here since this is popular tour attraction in SD. Overall, we had a great time dining at Sun Deck and will probably be back in the future when we visit Coronado Island.

Skyler S.

Yelp
Nathan was a very poor server. My table and I had to wave him down multiple times, even to order drinks and food. We sat at one of the sunset tables; which is a minimum of $175 (not bad at all for a sunset table and guaranteed gratuity for him) however, he came over to us once out of the 2.5 hours that we were there. On top of that, the drink we ordered had a gnat in it which was okay, things happen. But the second round of drinks was straight syrup.

Linda E.

Yelp
Had a friend visiting from the east coast staying in Coronado. My first thought for lunch was going to tried & true The Henry But, I thought let's go for history & a view. We got the view but, all else failed. Sat outside , beautiful day with an amazing view.We ordered two fountain drinks, two Asian salads one with shrimp, one with chicken=$113 ? The salads were a hot mess of Asian noodles( thin pancit style)with one or two vegetables , no lettuce of any kind, and a bit of chicken or four shrimp. It had no flavor, hard to eat( so messy) I had a guest so I didn't complain. We paid for the view. When I went to pick up my car from valet the discounted price for eating there was $35 .... For two hours of parking.I didn't check pricing before so my fault.I would have used self parking.I must say if the food was great I wouldn't have minded the bill but, it was a HOT MESS.Go for a drink & appetizer....I felt like a trapped tourist.

Diane L.

Yelp
Love the view!!! Super friendly staff and our bartender Jessica was the BEST! My husband's birthday treat was huge and delicious

Linda W.

Yelp
We both had the San Diego Fish Sandwich. They were both terrible. The fish was burned and dry. The server was much more interested in a young woman at the next table than he was in serving us. It took over a half hour to get our food. None of it was hot and the sandwich was inedible. The view, which was spectacular, was the only good thing about the lunch.

Jack M.

Yelp
This place is extremely expensive for what the food is. You are paying for the view which is amazing, but personally when I go to a restaurant I prefer to pay for good food. I had the pesto chicken sandwich ($28 before tax or tip). The chicken was about 50/50 in between dry and good. The pesto was good but I did not feel there was enough. The fries were ok. Bluntly put the meal was not worth $28 in my eyes. I tried the Rockfish Cru (also $28) which was great but did not come with enough chips. The waitress was very nice and accommodating for our large party size. Overall I would only return to eat here if I have money to burn, the view is lovely (but also free).
google avatar

Shirley F.

Yelp
Food was good. Very interesting presentation. Service has a lot of rules. Ambience is beachfront beauty. I love the sunset view.
google avatar

Bree Z.

Yelp
An absolute gem of a place! The staff is so nice, really the best of the best even if you just want a beer and a mocktail -- they are very dog friendly and they'll offer your pup a water bowl and maybe even a treat. Everyone is in such a wonderful mood, just happy to be in this little slice of paradise with a front-row seat to the Pacific Ocean!

Faith H.

Yelp
Great food! Great views! Such a beautiful area. We had great service and even at sunset, we were able to get a seat and service quickly.

Yelp
Friday brunch at 11 am - Brussels sprouts, San Diego fish sandwich, the del double cheeseburger Service: attentive Ambiance: great vibe, chill Price: see pics Food quality: excellent fries , must have the Brussels sprouts

Yelp
Love this place and Patrick was the best waiter! He was always on top of it and stayed attentive to a large group of us there for a work conference which is impressive. Always with a smile too - loved the food and cabana was a great idea for daytime hang.
google avatar

Jenni F.

Yelp
This spot is literally a picture perfect environment. Our server was very kind and flexible to our large party of 11. I highly recommend the Bloody Mary; it is spicy and delicious. The butternut squash soup was outstanding and my California bowl was a light and fresh vegan option. I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Without repeating what is in all the other reviews, the food is good, the drinks are great, but you're visiting a legend with a great view with prices to match. The only thing that would make a 5 star review is a person(s) directing and answering questions about what tables are reserved, what tables have table service, and what tables are order at the bar. The place has evolved to where there are sofa sections, high tops, low tops, bar tables facing the beach, nobody knows what to do just makes it awkward.

Dee N.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Ambiance was beautiful due to sunset but people loud however $7 for a Diet Coke in a PLASTIC cup and literally like 8 oz of Diet Coke is not okay. Didn't even offer a refill and I made the mistake of tipping 20% at the bar. Never again. Drink water and get a coke from the market
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
The food was delicious and well presented and our server was very efficient. Gorgeous views sitting outside in the ocean breeze-they have heaters which our waiter lit, and fire pits. Limited menu but it gets the job done. We all had salads and they were delicious. There was a two hour time limit and a minimum of I believe $175 dollars for the two couches surrounding a fire pit. This was not an issue for us as we had a large group. Can't beat eating outside at the Hotel Del!
google avatar

Rose H.

Yelp
Food was amazing and the view was beautiful, we enjoyed spending Mother's Day lunch, the service was great too

Rob B.

Yelp
Nice view but the drinks and food are overpriced! $24 for a 6 ounce glass of wine! You can find better places with the same view for less money. I will say the food was fantastic.
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
Food - In short, good. Slightly overpriced but with this location and ambiance, you can see why. Two dishes and a couple of drinks will set you back a little over a hundy. I had the Bibimbap. Good but needs more protein in my opinion. Too much starch. Wifey had the Seabass Fish. Delish. Service - good. Attentive enough but can be better. Verdict - surprised by the taste. So decent enough. But you will want to come here to breath the fresh ocean water and the views.

Yelp
Met family at Sun Deck this afternoon for lunch. It was my first time in Coronado Island. We arrived at the hotel ( which is really cool, by the way) and inquired about parking at the valet. We were told it was $35 for the first 2 hours! We decided to park elsewhere (down the street) for free. The restaurant/bar location is great, and the vibe was fun - plenty of outdoor seating, lots of people, beautiful view, and the shore just steps away. Our server did an okay job considering how busy it was, but unfortunately, the food was just not good. I ordered the fish sandwich ( which was about $30). The fish was dry, and had absolutely no flavor. It came in a ciabatta roll, which I understand is a crustier bread, but this bread was just stale. I could barely bite into it. Eventually, I just gave up and removed the fish and filling and ate it with a fork. I don't think I've ever had a more tasteless sandwich in my life. The filling consisted of sliced tomato, pickled onions, and a shredded cabbage mixture that had absolutely no moisture or seasoning to it. To make it worse, there was not a salt and pepper shaker in sight. My mom ordered an Asian chopped salad that came with no dressing. She took a few bites and chose to not take it home because it was so plain. Not one person in our party said they enjoyed their food. The fries were the only good thing. For the prices they charge, the food should be a lot better. I guess you are just paying for the location. I will definitely return to Coronado Island, and would love to stay at the hotel, I just won't be eating at Sun Deck again.

Esmeralda C.

Yelp
Waited 30 mins to ask where our food was. Waiter said he'd check on it and never came back. Went to go ask to speak to manager 15 mins after that and no one ever came. Finally left after an hour since no one checked on us.

Ryan S.

Yelp
I don't cook often but I'm certain I could cook a better fish and chicken sandwich than these jokes of sandwiches. The burger was decent, I wouldn't pay a 3rd of its absurd price of 29 dollars though. $240 for a quick lunch for 5 people and all we got was disappointment. There is extremely few options on the menu and not a single one is worth half its price. Service was average, waiters/waitresses were quick. The seating options kinda sucked, there were no suitable tables for our party of 5 except for the $175 minimum couches(which we didn't expect to spend), 4 person tables, and 10 person table. View was nice though. Could've been 2 stars if it the price wasn't so absurd.

Yelp
We had a great dinner here and our service was provided by Hugo. He did such an amazing job and made our dinner extra pleasant thank you Hugo

Yelp
We stopped in with a group of 8 and sat down on the deck with the couch and fire pit. Yes there is a minimum charge to sit there, but with a large group you will spend that amount anyway. We had great service and the cocktail selection was creative and also had a full bar so you could order anything you wanted. You can't beat the view of course. Excellent way to spend a few hours with friends.
