Sun Valley Outdoor Ice Rink

It's an outdoor skating rink all year long and it's so pretty and so much fun!!! We had a great time!!

This could have been a rating of 5 if they had decent management. It’s such a shame when a company has employees with poor customer service and are clearly not happy about being at their job. Well that’s Sun Valley Management and although I’ve gone to them on two separate occasions all I heard was “oh so sorry” but they don’t make any changes. The management at the rink ( Scott) seems to go out of his way to be mean to the coaches and rude to the students. It’s uncomfortable to be around and now the refrigeration system is broken so - no more skating for any of us. The best was how they told everyone- I’ll post the picture. This is what Scott did, then locked the doors rather then text the coaches and say “ hey, don’t come to work today”. Nice. Sun Valley’s whole mission statement is about hospitality. Well Jen Uhrig and Scott seemed to go out of their way to make people uncomfortable.

Three letters, WOW! Another three letters for you, OMG. We stumbled upon some ice dancers practicing at the ice rink, a befuddling sentence to read as we came across the ice rink in early September. The only outdoor ice rink that is open year-round in the U.S., it was a delightful surprise. The dancers have to be professional, their talent left my jaw on the floor. Thank you ice dancers, you are inspiring!

What can you say about 24/7/365 outdoor ice skating? A great way to spend a couple of hours. Mingle with other guests from around the world, chat with the friendly staff. Pretty good rental skates, too.

Staff was grumpy and not helpful. I got yelled at to wait outside even though i had a mask on and there was no sign about maximum capacity, and there was only 1 other guest inside. It set the tone for the entire time and I won't be going back.

We went there for a figure skating trip last summer and it was so much fun!

UPDATE- 2020 (looks like they updated the hours, call first though) Was a bit upset that we came from far away and looked forward to ice skating. The hours said open till 9pm, we had a few drinks and appetizers at the lodge and watch the skaters, thinking we had time. When we were ready we got there at 6:30, he said we had 30mins and still had to pay full price. I thought that just didn’t seem very nice at least they could have cut us a deal. $75 bucks for 20mins (after getting the skates on)!! My kids first time ice skating was cut short and when they just got the hang of it, we were kicked off the ice. They were very sad that we didn’t have the time to skate more. So if your going call ahead and check their hours.

I was impressed with how clean & (discreetly) well monitored this outdoor rink was... I felt very safe during this COVID-19 eta. My rental skates fit fine, the rink was kept in great condition, & $22 for 2hrs of outdoor fun (that's incl skate rental) seemed a reasonable value. If u come in October like my friend & I- the weather in delightful, the mountains hsve a dusting of snow... & the fall foliage is glorious!

Home to the famous Sun Valley ice shows. I've seen a few Olympian figure skaters perform here, including the gorgeous and talented Sasha Cohen. Shows have high production value and are always so elegant and beautifully done. And if you hang around after a show, performers often stick around to say hi to their fans. Outdoor ice skating in summer is a unique experience and always great fun!

Such a fun place to go! I love that it is open year round and is good for all ages! Their hours were a little hard to find and there are specific hours that are open to the public. Would definitely go back!

Sun Valley has this great deal worked out where if you buy a "3 out of 4 day" ski ticket and decide you don't want to ski one of the days (bad weather, get injured, tired... whatever!), you can exchange one day for a number of things, including a $40 shopping gift certificate, a 1/2 hour massage, snow tubing or lunch & ice skating. We used the lunch & ice skating option, and it made for a lovely afternoon. However I'm no expert ice skater. Don't think I've been skating since back in the Cub Scout days, and my ankles don't seem to cooperate like they used to. But it was an enjoyable 20 minutes or so, aside from a crew of fast skating kids that were playing tag and throwing gloves at each other. I almost got smashed a few times, which kinda took the fun out of it. An ominous "No playing tag!" projected from the loud speakers at one point, but that decree only went obeyed for about five minutes. Overall it is a nice big rink right in back of the impressive lodge, and it really makes for a fun addition to the whole ski lodge experience!

I love this place and literally live here and I can't wait for the sun valley summer championships

We had a great time skating at the rink. All the folks there are really helpful and professional. Kudos to Pam for setting us up with such a great instructor. Erin, was very patient and fun, my girls really enjoyed learning from her. Also thanks to Brent and Scott for helping us buy and sharpened our skates. A big fan of the rink and personnel and thanks for making it a memorable summer vacation.
