I actually found this museum by accident on Google Maps, and I’m really glad I decided to visit. It’s easy to reach from the main tourist areas. The museum is small but packed with fascinating information about Sun Yat Sen and his time in Penang. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, happy to share more stories if you’re interested. If you enjoy learning about modern Chinese history, this place is definitely worth a visit! Entrance fee is MYR 10 for adults — very reasonable for the experience and insight you’ll get.

Visiting the Sun Yat Sen Museum Penang was an unforgettable experience. The mesuem's guide, 明明阿姨, made history come alive with her vivid storytelling and warm interaction. She explained not only Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s lifelong pursuit of 民权 (people’s rights), but also the struggles of early Chinese migrants in Malaya. What touched me most was how the visit helped me better understand the past of our people, the sacrifices and resilience that shaped who we are today. On top of that, I had the chance to meet travelers from Hong Kong, and our cultural exchange added even more meaning to the experience. The museum is beautifully preserved, but it is 明明,’s guidance, the interactive atmosphere, and the chance to connect with history and people that truly made it special. Highly recommended!

The entrance fee includes a detailed tour of place, history of the owners, the society and insights of important characters that helped retained and maintain the association. Rose, the English guide is very passionate and enthusiastic in her tour. The beliefs and vision of Sun Yat Sen is very much explained and espoused.

The tour is super worth it… students get rm5 price. Tour guide hospitality is on top and the museum is small, cozy, aesthetic and full of artistic details. Just wanna take this opportunity to thank your guide Auntie Ming Ming and Auntie Moon for the great experience

This was the most heartfelt tour I experienced in Penang, given by a gray-haired grandmother. Even after hosting a student group of over thirty people during the day, she still insisted on guiding us right before the 18:00 closing time. She kept drinking water to soothe her throat, and sweat was dripping down—truly dedicated. Through her personal experiences, she helped us understand the importance of Chinese education (she and her family had attended a school founded by Sun Yat-sen in Penang). She also shared stories about people and incidents she encountered in her work, mentioning how some visitors were moved to tears by the scenes. I'm from Nanjing, and I also overheard a visitor from Sun Yat-sen University having a discussion with another elderly male docent.

We spent an hour walking around this amazing time capsule, travelling back100 years to see the life of the original Chinese settlers. The house is especially dedicated to the life of Sun yat sen the pioneer of the early years of the communist revolution. Our guide talked us through the time line of his life in Penang and his achievements. This is a must for any body interested in absorbing world history in the original place it started.

I had a truly insightful experience visiting the Sun Yat Sen Museum in Penang. The guided tour was very informative, offering a deep dive into both the rich Peranakan culture of Penang and the historical significance of Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s revolutionary work and development. It was eye-opening to see how Penang played such a role in shaping history. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to meet Madam Khoo Salma Nasution, the museum’s custodian, whose passion and knowledge added a personal touch to the tour. Overall, it’s a place I would highly recommend to anyone interested in culture, history, and heritage.
