Japanese Street Food: Essential Snacks and Dishes to Eat - AFAR

"An old-school shotengai on Tokyo’s east side where several yakitori shops and casual stalls cluster; visitors can buy grilled skewers and other street foods and, at some spots, stand and eat in front of the shop. The arcade is known for down-to-earth yakitori and oden vendors that cater to locals and passersby." - Yukari Sakamoto

Been there on weekday morning, not many people. Feel local and retro , many old people comes out for buying foods. There is song broadcast along the street ,yes, Christmas songs during this time. Price is so reasonable and quality is good as well. If you stay not far from here or happen to be at the area , come and buy foods here.

This shopping street has a unique vibe, kind of old style shitamachi atmosphere with many shops selling side dishes or meat dishes all freshly made (as opposed to many other shopping streets in Tokyo having only chain stores selling junk food or ready made) - and also many clothing shops. This place doesn’t feel trendy, just feels very local and authentic. I liked it a lot!

We made a mistake of going too early. Most shops don’t open until 10 plus. Best to visit after 11am. There are public tables and chairs to consume your food along the street. We had Oden and dim sum , it was delicious.

Nice cosy neighbourhood market place. Not as busy as Tsukiji but at the same time you can get various food that the locals eat. The skewers and oden were awesome. Best part is you can buy your food and enjoy in small park with tables and chairs provided there. Good place to visit if you stay at Koto region.

A nice, quiet shopping street. There was no shaded canopy overhead, but the weather was fine. Lots of small, inexpensive shops and grocery stores. The prices are lower than in the malls and bigger supermarket chains.

Nice little shopping street for an afternoon walk. Get some discount fruit and veg, yakitori sticks, kushikatsu or Chinese take away. Dinner prep easy peezy.

This was a cute little shopping street. I did find a cute kimono for a 12-18mo old! We went on a Friday around 5, so it may be busier on the weekend. Not many people, which was a plus...but just ordinary shopping street...nothing super special.

My favorite place to go on weekends. There are many shops, especially the ones that sell veggies with cheaper price than the supermarket. Also, you can find many Chinese foods and snacks there. There is also a stall for free PCR test
