This a a wonderful place to get fresh trout and trout products. We visited the store when we were in waynesville recently, and we bought fresh trout filets and some smoked trout. Both were wonderful! After returning home to FL, we ordered some more smoked trout online. It arrived yesterday, and I was so impressed with their careful and effective packaging. The trout arrived quite cold, and was packed with lots of ice packs in a foam-lined box. Perfect! We will be ordering again, and shipping some for holiday gifts.

Not only did I order from Sunburst Trout Farms but I also went on a tour of their facility. The staff was incredibly kind and told me the process of how their trout are raised and package. You can tell they care for the fish and their customers

Much more than just trout. I ordered couple days ahead for Friday pickup. Pleasant person called and left a message my order was ready to pick up. I ordered a variety of items as the photos will show. So far have only tried the smoked trout dip, entire family raved how good it was. Bacon and trout sausage for tomorrow’s breakfast and whole trout for dinner. Very impressed with the packaging and cleanliness of store front. Had smoked rainbow trout for breakfast. It was mild and so much flavor. It was hit with my 1 year old grandson and 75 year old Mother. On a bagel with cream cheese, red onion and capers was fantastic! For lunch my youngest made trout sausage bagel sandwiches. Delicious!! Thick sausage patties with just the right blend of seasoning.

The sunburst trout are delicious. We grill them but you have options for cooking them. Try some soon!

Fantastic trout! We found Sunburst on a lark, tried it out and will be regular eaters. We live near Lake Erie with world class fishing but won’t eat it bc of PCBs and garbage in the water. We ate four fillets and four trout burgers. We’ll be ordering big batches of fish for shipping to us.

I haven't been to the farms yet, but I order the products and they are delicious. Not all farm raised trout is good, so don't judge by what you have had in the past. Sunburst is fantastic. Celebrity chefs cook with this trout. We are vegetarians, so are happy to find clean delicious protein to add to our vegetable diet. My favorites are the smoked trout and the trout jerky. Great mail order service and the people who take the orders are friendly and pleasant.

We ordered trout fillets and they were awesome! Super fresh and nicely clean, they are delicious. We will be ordering regularly from Sunburst.

Was on vacation & went to the Farmer's market @ UNCA & found this stand got the trout dip...so good! Definitely going to place a order to FL if I can!

I discovered this business while looking for some fresh trout online. WOW the shipping speed was awesome, and all the items were shipped in a cooler with what I believe is dry ice packs. Customer service was very informative as I received emails at every stage of my order. Now to the best part the Trout is awesome!! Fresh,mild flavor, and perfectly pink colored. This is some of the best Trout my family and I have ever eaten. My 8 yr old grandson absolutely loved it and the Lusty Monk mustard is great on everything. I have watched several videos online and they seem to have a very well ran operation. There facilities appear to be very beneficial to the Trout and the local environment. I will definitely be ordering more products from this awesome company.

A visit to Waynesville is not complete without a stop to the Sunburst Trout Farm store. In the industrial part of town, the store offers all the items one can also buy locally or online. Also, can find their trout products in restaurants throughout WNC. Katie is usually there to help us. I usually buy some incredible trout filets (pan fried to perfection in minutes), trout burgers or sausage (flavored deliciously) and smoked trout dip. Remember, everything you buy is totally consumable. No waste, unless you don't eat the trout skin. Bring a cooler to insure your purchases are kept cold. Sunburst has survived the hurricanes/floods and Covid. They want to do business; Waynesville is lucky to have them.

This may be the storefront for a trout farm but it is an exceptional little gourmet shop. If you come to the area, equip your cabin with the following: -fresh trout. Even this salt water Florida girl who does not know freshwater fish did a great job cooking the fillets that were swimming 12 hour earlier -smoked trout-presliced and cryo-packed is not salty, nicely smoked and delicious. Try it with -garlic herb goat cheese. Not super tangy like goat cheese can be. Had it with the smoked salmon on toast points. Had it with crackers. Had it in an omelette. Had it dolloped in a salad. Delicious. - bacon. Not just any bacon. Benton's thick cut hickory smoked bacon from nearby TN. This bacon is famous in NY restaurants, gourmet food clubs and in my house! -smoked trout fish dip--not salty, great flavor -trout caviar. Bright with citrus notes and the pop is perfect. Get some creme fraiche at Publix and kettle cooked potato chips for a decadent treat. -chicken pot pie. They have several different recipes and a Shepard's pie. I had the OG chicken pot pie and it was excellent. Flaky buttery crust that you know is hand made and filled with lots of chicken and carrots and peas. Everything here is a winner. Worth the trip to the back of an industrial park on a dirt road after the last parking lot. It is just a warehouse with coolers. Check them all out.

This place harvests fresh rainbow trout! Call early with your order and you are guaranteed to get truly fresh delicious trout. I picked up three filets yesterday. You should scrape the scales off the side with the skin on. It is the best. option in WNC for a fried fish dinner. Prices are reasonable and my fillets yere huge.

We stopped here for some fresh trout while on vacation. The filets were super fresh and just delicious. Reasonably priced too. Highly recommend!

Just received my first shipment. The Rainbow trout caviar is excellent. The smoked trout was out of this world. I grew up about 10 miles from Lake Logan (in the Sunburst region) and the fish was better than I remembered from the streams surrounding the area. It's expensive but do treat yourself.

You can find Sunburst Trout at markets all over the mountains, but it's worth going out to their farm. First read Caroline S.'s great review of their products and location. If you go, know that they have filets that are 12-16 inches. I think it's really great to have a piece of trout that big to serve. Definitely makes for a great presentation.

After trying Sunburst's cold smoked trout at Over Easy Cafe in Asheville, I was hooked. Soon after I went to Southern Season in Chapel Hill to pick up cold smoked trout of my own - to serve in a sandwich or on top a spinach salad. But I just couldn't get enough, so I went to the source. Located south of Waynesville and Canton, a trip to Sunburst makes for a great day trip. The drive is beautiful and a visit to Sunburst is rewarding. Why is it rewarding? By going straight to the source you get a fresher product, without the overhead, and you get to see part of their trout farm. Win.Win.Win. While finding the location maybe a bit hard (be sure to look up directions ahead of time and don't be scared off by the steep downhill dirt road), the scenic drive is worth it. Once at Sunburst, go to the large warehouse/office on the opposite side of the fishery. Don't be surprised that there is no formal "shop", when you come in you walk into the large working area where they process the fish. This is part of the charm of going directly to the source. When we had a question about the fillets, one of the employees filleting trout, just lifted one up to show us. The fillets we purchased were processed just 45 minutes prior, talk about fresh! As mentioned it's a deal to purchase directly from the source, the prices are very reasonable and the products are fresh! We purchased a number of fillets, a side of cold smoked trout, caviar and a couple of their smoked trout dip. I would highly recommend picking up the trout dip. I'm usually not a fan of pre-made dips (opting usually to make my own), but that doesn't apply to this amazing dip. They did a great job finding the perfect ingredients to make this dip delicious - it has a great balance of sweet and spicy, a perfect offering for a wine and cheese party. The price of the bounty of items we purchased was just a fraction of what they would normally retail for, and it's directly supporting Sunburst. From the pictures, it looks like you can walk to the dam and nearby lake, but you can't. There is a fence prohibiting guests to get to the dam and the lake is effectively owned by the Episcopal church, as they control most of the lake access. No worries, it's still a pristine location and worth the drive. The trout farm is also neat to check out, but only the older trout reside there - most of the younger trout are grown off site. Also, the trout gets their rich pink color from feed. You'll do a double take thinking that the trout is salmon, it really takes like a rich piece of salmon, but it's great to support a NC company that offers amazing trout at great prices!

I got tired of my local Earth Fare not carrying the Sunburst products I wanted such as the trout roe, I just broke down and ordered and made an account. Charlotte is too far to visit them regularly, and the shipment is fast and fantastic. The ice packs made everything come in chilled and perfect condition. BTW, my Earth Fare carries the cold smoked trout but not the incredible dip or the "caviar." Do not be afraid to order from them directly! I have developed a habit already.

Sunburst Trout is a farm that provides many restaurants and groceries throughout the South-East with delectable fresh fish. Many of Asheville's favorite eateries use their product and it is almost always prepared excellently -Early Girl does a particularly good job. But as I am a wanderer and a cook; I love to drive out to the farm and buy fishes to take home. It's a different angle to the 'you pick' phenomena of many orchards but still the principle is the same: you can visit the farm directly, see where your food comes from and meet the local people that make it all possible. Sunburst is great because it is located in the middle of nowhere, the drive is scenic and curvy, up 215 going toward the Parkway; it is at the bottom of the Lake Logan spillway. The farm is a perfect pit-stop to swimming in waterfalls or hiking the blue Ridge.
