13 Best Places to Retire for Golf Lovers

"Set within pine and fir forests with picturesque lakes and ponds about 80 miles from Seattle, Suncadia is a year-round resort community anchored by the Prospector course (by Palmer Course Design) next to the 18-room Inn at Suncadia, plus the more family-friendly Rope Rider course and the private Tumble Creek course. The resort offers golf as well as fishing, rafting, hiking, biking, hotel-style amenities at the Inn and the Lodge, and residential options across three communities — Nelson Ridge, Trailhead Condominiums, and private Tumble Creek — with condos starting around $329,000, residences from about $850,000, homesites near $340,000, and higher-end homes and homesites within Tumble Creek." - Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty is a writer who specializes in covering destinations, resorts, and cruises for Travel + Leisure and other publications. I took my family on a Christmas getaway, and it was a delightful experience. The staff demonstrated exceptional dedication to accommodating guests. Christina at the front desk provided outstanding service, displaying both friendliness and attentiveness. My family and I genuinely felt the spirit of Christmas during our stay. The resort gives you Polar Express vibes. :-) The rooms were comfortable, cozy and the surrounding Washington forest created a captivating atmosphere reminiscent of a winter wonderland. The resort offers various amenities, including an ice skating rink, a small indoor water park, and several pools. Our family has decided to make this a traditional Christmas destination.

Had a beautiful dinner tonight and cannot rave enough about the wonderful dining staff. Kaelyn was an absolute delight as she showed us to our table and accolades our request to sit outside instead without hesitation. Her personality is adorable and personable! Our waiter Chaska also blessed us tonight with incredible service and attention to detail. He is genuine and easy to chat with. A big thank you to them both. Also, kudos to the wonderful hiring staff who hired them- nice work!! Thank you for a lovely evening with my husband!

What an amazing resort! I have NOTHING negative to say. Rooms have everything you could need, top of the line kitchens, comfy beds & bedding, and clean with nice furnishings. Restaurant is top notch with awesome views. Full bar too! Multiple pools/hot tubs indoor/outdoor, water slides, and a full service spa. Miles and miles of gorgeous land. Trees, mountains, water, beautiful sunsets.... views that are breathtaking! Nothing is old or outdated. Everything is clean and top of the line. Be ready to drive an extra 10 minutes just getting to the lodge from the road. The property is huge.

Save your money and avoid this resort at all costs. Such a dump and waste of money! We paid extra to stay at the "quiet" Condos. The room was extremely dated and dirty. This place is like a sad airb&b and sad hotel all rolled into one - broken window shades, broken ice machine, difficult to use air conditioning, fireplace without the knob, old mattress and pillows, stained towels, random things in the kitchen, dirty couch/pillows. I'm shocked at the amazing reviews about great customer service. I did not experience great customer service at any of the restaurants we visited or the front desk. The food was overpriced and not good. The Glade Spring Spas was amazing and the highlight of an extremely disappointing trip. And the deer. The hiking trails are great if you want to see 500 people and be on a paved flat path next to housing communities and roads! I cannot stress enough how much to avoid this place!

Me and my honey ate dinner at the lodge. Amazing view of the valley, with stairs down to the river. The hostess was very helpful and cared about our experience. And the waiter was top notch as well. These 2 employees made our experience. Thank you Chaska and Kaelyn!

I had high expectations for the Suncadia Lodge after hearing a lot of great things about the hotel and the area. The area lived up to the hype - lots of great hiking trails and nice views - but the hotel was a major disappointment. Upon checking into my room, I was impressed by the size, the kitchen, fireplace, and balconies. But then I saw oily hand prints on the leather cushions, an uncleaned Keurig with a used pod inside, and balcony seat cushions that had revolting stains on them. Later when I went to take a shower, the shampoo bottle was bone dry. The bad experiences continued: I called room service three times but it went to voicemail which was never returned. I went downstairs to order a meal at the bar but after 45 min of waiting, the bartender realized my order never made it to the kitchen. I ended up checking out.

Shout out to Hope at the front desk for being wonderful. We had a couple snafus with the first room we were put in. It was not really functional and they should not be putting anyone in there. The shower was broken to the point it couldn't be used and the AC failed to cool the room below 75 after 2 hours on high. At first, were told there was nothing to be done and no other rooms available. We spoke to Hope next, and she was kind, understanding, and immediately took care of everything. Thank you, Hope!

The rates they are charging for their hotel is absurd $400-$600 a night. They are really missing the mark here. The room wasn’t ready when we arrived. We waited about 20-30 minutes. And when we got to our room, it was filthy. Food all over the couch, crumbs all over the floor, someone’s dirty food plates outside the door, stains all over the walls, nasty hand prints all over the mirror above the sofa, pubic hair all over the bathroom, it looked like it hadn’t even been cleaned. The room furniture was old and falling apart. Very dated. The carpet was bunching up and uneven in a lot of areas. We notified the front desk who apologized and said someone would be up in 15 minutes to re clean the room. They never came so we cleaned it ourselves as best we could. They did offer us a 100$ resort credit which was nice. The lodge part of the property isn’t very well up-kept, it was dingy, and old looking. The restaurant was painfully slow. We waited about 1.5 hrs for our food. The poor bar server was handling about 7 tables himself, 5 people at a table each. We felt really bad for him. The food, however, was really really good. It was extremely expensive though. Our dinner for 2 adults and 1 child was 200$. They did free s'more's from 7-9pm which was really cool. The pools are very well kept and warm! We really enjoyed that part. The views and outside grounds were beautiful. Overall, I probably wouldn’t visit again. It’s way too expensive for the quality of the property. We travel a lot, internationally as well, and we always stay Hyatt because of their dedication to customer service and beautiful well kept properties. This is definitely not Hyatt quality. I have it 3 stars because of the pool and views.
