Tombs and springtime blooms in Delhi’s Nizamuddin - SilverKris

"A 64-hectare restored heritage park in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area that combines Mughal-era tombs, charbagh gardens and winding water bodies with contemporary public-space amenities; it hosts seasonal flowerbeds, nesting rose-ringed parakeets, open-air performances and family-friendly spots where children play, and was rescued from decades of neglect through a multiagency restoration that earned UNESCO recognition for sustainable development in 2020." - Geetanjali Krishna

Sunder Nursery is a truly beautiful place — the gardens are reminiscent of the Mughal times, with domed buildings, old walls, and Mughal-style gardens featuring small streams flowing through them. There are flowers, lakes, and fountains all around, creating a scenic, peaceful, and picturesque atmosphere. There’s a ₹30 entry fee, and while some events require separate tickets, the experience is absolutely worth it. Dandiya nights are held during Navratri, and other weekend events like ghazal evenings add life and culture to the calm surroundings. You’ll also find Carnatic Café and food trucks offering good food and refreshments. The park is full of ducks in the lakes, so many flowers, and numerous butterflies of different species, along with many caterpillars that can be seen among the plants. There’s a kids’ area with jhoolas, swings hanging from trees, and even a dense, forest-like patch perfect for quiet walks. What’s more, there’s even a nursery of plants, vegetables, and fruit saplings, making it a great place for gardening enthusiasts. Overall, Sunder Nursery is a beautiful, peaceful, and Insta-worthy spot — ideal for nature lovers, families, and anyone looking to relax amidst history, greenery, and art. Truly one of Delhi’s most serene and charming gems.

I visited Sunder Nursery today, and it honestly exceeded my expectations. The place is beautiful, calm, and full of life. It’s one of those rare spots in Delhi where you can escape the noise of the city and just breathe fresh air. The garden is really well maintained with clean pathways, colorful flowers, and plenty of open space to walk or sit. There’s a lovely pond with fishes that instantly adds to the peaceful vibe, and I was lucky enough to spot a peacock roaming around, which made the visit even more special. There are also a few heritage structures inside the park that give it a unique charm. It’s perfect for nature lovers, photography, picnics, or just spending a quiet afternoon with family or friends. I’d definitely recommend visiting early in the morning or around sunset for the best experience. Overall, Sunder Nursery is a must-visit place in Delhi if you want to relax, explore, and connect with nature.

Very spacious and well maintained grounds for Yoga, picnic etc. Well equipped outdoor Kids Play areas (payable 20 rs per kid as on Dec 2025). Good cafes and canteens. Fountains, lakes and trees are spread across. Pet friendly. The toilets are clean, but depending on where you are, quite a walk. 2 Parking are available, one is cheap other costs a bomb(200Rs) per entry, I heard. This is on top of 50 rs entry fee per Indian visitor.

Sundar Nursery's manicured greenery with a touch of wilderness is an ideal natural escape within the city limits. It's open rolling grasses interspersed with broad walkways and a system of fountains and springs is bears particularly festive look during winter months. People come with their own victuals and spend substantial time enjoying the sun and the evenings of winter. There is adequate space for parking except on weekends when one may find it difficult.

Sundar Nursery is truly huge — and I mean huge. It’s one of those places you instantly fall in love with, especially on a bright, sunny day. The open spaces, greenery, fountains, and wide walkways make it feel like a perfect urban escape. When we visited, the place was buzzing with life — groups of friends, families, women, kids running around, and people simply soaking in the vibe. It almost felt like a picnic scene unfolding everywhere. Kids are surely going to love it, and honestly, adults won’t feel left out either. There’s plenty to explore, relax, and enjoy. What adds to the charm is the presence of multiple cafés, perfect for sitting out, grabbing a bite, and enjoying the surroundings at your own pace. On weekends, Sundar Nursery becomes even more lively with farmers’ markets and various stalls, making it an even more rewarding visit. For those who enjoy art and history, the space also houses the Humayun’s Tomb Complex and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, offering a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and heritage. Overall, Sundar Nursery has a lot to offer and is absolutely worth visiting, whether you’re going with kids, friends, family, or even solo.

The place might be named like a leisure park but to understand it's worth you need understand how you feel when you come out of that place. A nature lover and people from similar field night be able to understand the shear beauty and essence of thos place. Those delicate songs of water flowing or birds chirping in the midst of the Delhi. It's simply unprecedented. You've got sit hear the water flow or see the birds chirping to realise that this is what we have lost already and that place is an actual reminder of that. The beauty the engineering and the shear will to create such a place which calms you down is the speciality of this park. It's a place of learning, a place of peace, a place of thought. A place to breathe and feel what it is to be in a well designed atmosphere.

In the heart of New Delhi, amidst the deafening sounds of urban life, is a garden of delight - Sunder Nursery. It was also called as Azim Bagh in the 16th century. On account of their being Mughal era garden tombs, six monuments here are included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Heritage list includes - Sunder Burj, Lakkarwala Burj, Sunderwala Mahal, Mirza Muzaffar Hussain's Mausoleum, Mughal Mausoleum & Chotta Batashewala. The Time Magazine named Sunder Nursery amongst the 100 Greatest Places in the world in 2018. It has undergone careful conservation works since 2007 by Aga Khan Trust for Culture. Architect M. Shaheer designed this heritage park under the conservation efforts. The Grand Trunk Road (one of the oldest trade routes) passed through present day Sunder Nursery, allowing traders to relax overnight at Azimganj Serai( Northern edge of Sunder Nursery). The Yamuna river formed the eastern edge of the Azim Bagh. It offers a perfect mix of nature, heritage, and tranquility. Spread across 90 acres, it features stunning gardens, beautiful Lake, serene water bodies, and an impressive variety of flora and fauna. It also has delightful & dedicated peacock habitat, where these majestic birds can often be seen roaming freely—adding a magical, almost regal charm to the landscape. Beyond heritage, Sunder Nursery has thoughtful recreational spaces. The model farms offer insights into sustainable urban farming. Every Sunday an Organic market takes place here. The Serenity Amphitheatre provides a beautiful open-air setting for cultural events and performances. Families especially love the children’s playhouse. Clean pathways, peaceful corners, and wide lawns make it perfect for walks, picnics. With nature and history thriving side by side, it remains a True timeless Delhi gem worth returning to again and again.
