Sundy Praia – Príncipe Collection

One of the best all around hotels I've ever stayed in. Services are mostly great, as is the food. The wait staff in the restaurant are outstanding. The activities are mostly great but I think they are missing an opportunity to teach people about the biosphere reserve and just how special the island is. Communication with some of the staff can be a bit challenging at times because of cultural assumptions more than anything else. I'd gladly go back.

We only stayed here for one night, but that was enough. The complex is beautifully located in the jungle by the beach and the tent villa was very large and luxurious, but unfortunately there are also various shortcomings that such an expensive luxury accommodation should not have.|Quite a few families with children stay there, so it's not really quiet. |The ways within the complex are relatively long. For example, we had to walk about 10 minutes from our tent villa to the restaurant. If you're not very mobile, this complex is not suitable.|The food was nothing special. At the other HBD resorts, such as Bom Bom Island or Roca Sundy, there were always two dishes to choose from for dinner. This was the case for the starter, main course and dessert. Here, there was only one menu.|Drinks are included in the price of the accommodation, but only the cheap ones. For example, a cocktail at the bar costs extra.|The worst thing we noticed was that other people had bed bugs. We saw the bites ourselves. The management told people not to tell anyone else. People were then moved to Roca Sundy and Bom Bom Island Resort due to lack of space. In other words, the management wants to cover up such things.|All in all, the resort is overpriced and does not offer good value for money. Therefore, we will not be staying there again in the future.

We stayed at Hotel Roca Sundy but for the valentines day we reserved dinner at the restaurant Sundy Praia Lodge. The ambient was really nice, the service was friendly and kind and the food was delicious. Sadly after the dinner i lost my purse. I dont know if i forgot it on the table or if it felt down. The next day we got a call that they found it, when we drove there they wouldnt let us enter with the car even though we were just there to pick up the wallet so we needed to walk. We didnt really understand why as there was no problem entering the area with the car the day before. All cards were still inside but the money (200 Euro) was gone. Thats why we have to give two points less for the service.

I came as a day visitor for the beach and restaurant, so didn't stay in the hotel. It's a five-star place with (in my opinion) expensive rates for sleeping, but the restaurant was actually quite cheap. In a magnificently designed open space dining room, which has a refined ethno style, three-course meal was tasty and under 40€. My starter was a coconut and fish cerviche, for main I had a sea welk curry, and for my sweet I took the ice-cream which was without doubt the silkiest ice-cream I've ever had. The location is beautiful with the well-maintained beach (award for the guys collecting the leaves to keep it pristine) that is backed-onto by a tropical forest.

This hotel is quite difficult to get to with two flights weekly or a twelve hour boat trip and despite having many rooms available (my booking not having cost them any) has refused to change the dates to allow me to use the room booked. Not a level of service any five star hotel has. It was my mistake to not book the flights and hotel the same hour but a mistake that I believe is understandable, and should particularly be for a hotel that mainly caters to foreigners. This hotel refuses to refund me anything. I would not recommend staying here. I have stayed at other hotels in São Tomé and Príncipe I have enjoyed very much for comparison.

You will be in the jungle :-) It requires some open mind to love it. It means get prepare to wake-up in the middle of the night with the sounds of crawling animals or coconut fall in the tent roof.

A lot to like. The hotel is trying to provide a good service and make you feel comfortable but sometimes it’s hit and miss. With some improvements it could be a perfect place. The villas are almost on the beach but no sea view, it’s very overgrown and dark. Inside the rooms it is pretty good condition but outside it is falling apart, mouldy and damp. The beach is quiet and clean but it’s not the best beach in Príncipe. On the bright side , the surrounding area is just a dream, endless walks through the rainforest, bird watching, exotic fruit trees, the words can not describe it fully. The hotel provides some activities included in your stay and some extra activities. Guides are very knowledgeable and speak good English unlike the rest of the staff. The price is high so hotel was not full which is nice for the guests. I would recommend the hotel to people who appreciate nature, it’s untouched and unexploited, locals are friendly and smiley, we felt very safe and never intimidated. All in all great experience and memories.

We stayed at Sandy Praia over Christmas 2024. On the plus side the location and environment around Sunday is lovely. They have all the makings of an excellent secluded resort. Unfortunately the execution of the experience is far below par for this price and the difficulty encountered to get to this resort. I would suggest going to Belo Monte if you are going to Principle island. |- We had confirmed prior to booking and arrival that we would have a quiet room. But we were allocated a room that was directly beside the pool and bar (Room 3). As it was Christmas there were no other rooms available and too bad for us. We couldn't really enjoy our space as we had people walking past our beach space every 5 minutes, could hear children screaming in the pool and the music from the bar into the evening. It completely ruined our hopes of a relaxing secluded holiday. This is totally unacceptable and not what you would expect from a properly managed property. |- The staff are friendly and trying their best. However, what I can only assume is a lack of proper training, they fail to give you the service you would expect for a resort of this nature. English is an issue and simple requests go unanswered. Service is slow for all meals. You are made to wait for breakfast to start, tour guides are late and you are constantly in search of water. Very poor at this price point. |- We booked massages and on the day they had disappeared from the diary so we were made to wait. When we did get massages they had screwed up someone else's booking who was knocking on the door throughout. Not very relaxing or professional. |- As it was Christmas we paid a large supplement for our dinner on Christmas Eve. This was early our worst meal of the trip with dry steak, long wait times and limited drink options. Not what I expected for an extra 120 euros per person. ||So int he end, unfortunately our hopes of a relaxing holiday were dashed by poor communication by the manager Paolo, unmet expectations and lack of execution for even the simplest of tasks. We wouldn't go back.
