Where to Stay in Berlin When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"For over two decades this cheerful hostel has welcomed budget travelers; it offers a variety of room types — dorms, private rooms, female-only dorms, and apartments — includes breakfast, organizes walking tours, and has both a bar and a lounge so it's easy to relax and meet other travelers." - Matthew Kepnes

I was in Berghain last weekend and it was top. Spent 4 nights in this hostel and I loved it. My roommates were all very nice people. The rooms i stayed in, 313 and 333 were nice and clean. The breakfast wonderful. The best part of this hostel is the staff. They were all very welcoming, very accommodating. Top people. I will come back for my next Berghain experience in May. See you soon, guys!

Google
Highly recommend this hostel. Very lively and easy to meet people. The bar is so convenient and beer is cheap. Location is 8 min walking from metro/train station so easy to get around. If you’re here for clubbing, Berghain is 200m away! Katerblau, trésor are also close-by. The rooms are fine and the pillow is very confortable. Only downside I would say is the bathrooms and showers need renovation. Shoutout to Oleg for being so kind

I stayed 3 nights here at the Sunflower hostel and loved every moment of it. Clean facilities, clean and comfortable bed, and a great environment. The staff were all very kind and accommodating, and answered my questions about Berlin and the local area very well. Many younger people can be found in the lounge and it was easy to meet new people. People of all walks of life are welcomed here. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the nearest train station, with lots of food and entertainment options available nearby. Would definitely suggest this hostel to anyone in the area.

Google
Lgbtqia+ friendly, great vibe, has a great bar at reception. The room I was in was outside of wifi range which sucked as a foreigner, but the double size pod my fiance and I booked was delightful, and the aesthetic was immaculate. The staff were mostly nice, but I imagine as an American I am very biased by the customer service culture there. All I will say is they were accommodating and pretty patient with me. The location is heavily reliant on transportation to see most attractions in the area. Plan around that. I would absolutely visit again.

Google
Many thanks for helping us organize accommodation for 12 people at once – everything went super smoothly with clear information at every step. Great breakfast option at an amazing price, as well as the bar offer. Rooms were more than sufficient, clean and comfortable. Perfect location – close to everything and very well connected. Once again, thank you so much! 🙌

Google
Cool hostel very near to city center, by bus or Underground. Beds are comfy, polite & friendly receptionists, a small dinner area at ground floor, flexible check-in out, clean rooms. Prices are wow for a small tour in Berlin. Definetly one of the best options to choose. Bonus- close to world famous Berghain club; if you have the chance to get in

Stayed here for about a week and booked a small private room to myself. The room was clean, comfortable, and fairly quiet (as quiet as a room can be when it’s on the street). Staff was friendly and helpful. Coffee & tea available 24/7 for 1€ . Some tours were offered, and others posted. Other guests were a bit social and all super friendly.

Google
I had an amazing stay at Sunflower Hostel in Friedrichshain, Berlin! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and full of character, and the atmosphere was laid-back and social. The location is unbeatable, just minutes from Warschauer Straße, and tons of bars, cafés, and clubs. Everything felt safe, well-run, and authentically Berlin. I’d highly recommend Sunflower Hostel to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and vibrant place to stay in the city!

Yelp
I unfortunately did not have a good experience. The photos looked nice, but it wasn't how it seemed. Check-in. It was so slow, and the receptionists were so chatty with other hostel guests they could barely focus on my check-in and kept forgetting I gave them extra money for towel deposit. Room. I stayed in 4 bed dorm. My guest mates were so loud, it was so hard to sleep. One of them was a smoker who got up so frequent at night to smoke and open the door, making the room cold. Also my guest mates were stinky, unlucky me. But also the bed was sooo uncomfortable. The cleaning of the room appears questionable too. This is not a quiet hostel. Everyone stays up late and you can hear them talking from the lobby at night. Also this place is next to Berghain, a 24hr party rave club on the weekends, so you have a lot of people staying here to go to this club. The bathroom was actually decently clean. However, there was no hooks on the shower walls so it was hard to put your stuff anywhere. Location, 10-15 minute walk to transit, a little inconvenient. You need to rent bikes is the best way of transportation.

Yelp
3.5 stars Pros: -Despite first impressions of the lobby, our room was very clean and modern. It felt like a completely different hostel compared to the lobby. -Up on the third floor is was very quiet at night, as long as we kept our window closed. -Nice room darkening curtains that helped us sleep in. -Friendly staff -Good beer at the bar, although I wish they had it on tap -Close to a very good metro station with multiple lines to take you anywhere you'd want to go, including Potsdam. Meh: -Our room was very small, but no smaller than hostels we've stayed in throughout Europe. (We had a double with private bathroom). -The neighborhood is extremely hipster, as is this hostel. Cons: -The room was stifling hot. A small standing fan would have made the experience 100x better. -Washers and dryers were broken and/or barely operable. -For us, we'd have probably chosen elsewhere had we known more about the neighborhood and grunge hipster vibe. We didn't have much in common with the other guests. -The location, although well connected on the metro, is not walking distance to many tourist attractions.

Yelp
Not at all what it looks like on the website. When we arrived, we could not even understand the reception guy because of the inappropriate loud music. About the hostel: it's dark almost everywhere, no airco in the room, not so good hygiene, 1 key for a room off 6 people and a really bad sleepingmattrass. Not even comparable to a basic decent hostel. Only + point is that the reception people are nice

Yelp
This hostel is super! One of the cleanest most organized hostels I've ever stayed at. The staff is very friendly and always available. The €3 breakfast is great. They have a wonderful lobby area with free wifi, books, laundry facilities, computers, really anything you could need for a comfortable stay. Also cheap beer as well! The area is super hip and young and easily walkable to other sites in Berlin. Don't miss Landschaftspark nearby. It's a gorgeous city park. Stay here, you'll love it.

Yelp
ALL MY STUFF STOLEN FROM THE LUGGAGE ROOM I stayed at the hostel for 8 days and on the last day I stored my luggage in the shared storage room. I asked the reception three times if it was safe there and they said yes. When I returned to pick up my stuff, my luggage was stolen. All my belongings were in there, including a value of $1000 USD ( in various currencies), $700 dollars worth of clothing from my grandparents, my professional camera and memory cards with over 6 months of photography, my hard drive with 10 year of photographs, sound collection, work documents, and my canadian documents. I went to the reception to ask what had happened and they checked the cameras which showed that someone had stolen it, but they did not zoom in because apparently they did not know how to use the software (okay...then what is the point of having a security camera?). I called the police and filed a report. Nothing has been done by the hostel. This place is not safe or trustworthy.

Yelp
my stay at the hostel sunflower berlín was horrible, i do not recommend it. the staff was really rude and unhelpful. i had an aggresive experience. i ordered some food and it was completely raw so i asked one of the hostel employees if he could cook it for a little longer, he started laughing at me, very disrespectful, i asked him again and i said "please don't laugh at me, and give me your name so i can make a formal complaint", he constantly refused to give me his name so i decided to take a picture of him so then i could make a complaint with the hostel's manager/owner. guess what he did? he took my cellphone away from my hands, and he threatened me that he would throw it away. it was terrible!!! by the way his name is joseph. also, the bedroom was very dirty and the food portions were really small and expensive. please do not go, theres is a lot of much better hostels out there!!!

Yelp
Good quality sturdy wooden bunk beds. This hostel is decorated with a real funky theme on each level. They have a really get launderette and internet area rolled into one. They charge extra for breakfast in the morning but it's a good spread of your typical continental food. The staff are friendly and approachable and great at giving directions. It was a bit annoying to get back late at night once the UBahn and other transport had finished running. They have a bar in the main area and an interesting water feature and tank as you enter.

Yelp
First, this is a HOSTEL. Not a hotel. As long as you keep that in mind, you will be very satisfied. They have low rates. I paid 28 Euros for three nights. You can't beat that. They charge a deposit for the sheets, a towel, and a padlock, but it is returned when you return those items. Nice hot showers, but there is no shelf or anything (inside the shower) to put your soap/shampoo/etc on when you are showering. Outside the shower, there are no hooks to hang your clothes on. The shelves that exist are too small and placed in inconvenient locations. That is super annoying but not a fatal problem. I also had a problem with the temperature of the water changing, hot to very hot to lukewarm to hot and so forth. But it's much better than cold so I can't complain. Beds are just standard bunk beds, but it's nice that they have a small shelf, a small nightlight, and two electrical outlets next to each bed so it's easy to plug in and recharge whatever you need. Checkout time is 11 am, however checkin time is 4pm, which is kinda late but it's easy to just hang out in the lobby until checkin time. They have a nice small bar with reasonably priced drinks. Laundry and internet computers are located in the lobby also. Small fee for either one. WIFI is free, but really really bogs down between 8pm and Midnight when dozens of people are connected, it gets slower than dialup and becomes completely unusable. Stick to using the WIFI outside of those times and you should be fine. I don't like the fact that you have to "like" the hostel on Facebook in order to be connected to the free WIFI, that seems like a sort of pathetic grovelling to me. Likes should be reserved for things you really DO like, not things you are forced to like. Don't even think about trying to do filesharing on their internet, you will get kicked off the network and blocked. Considering the limited bandwidth this is an excellent restriction. Very nice convenient location, there is a U-Bahn station very close by and there is a supermarket (ALDI) and a liquor store within easy walking distance. The staff is very nice and helpful. They all speak excellent English, and will help you out with anything you need. Make sure you ask Freddy to play you some of his 80's music collection. All in all, an excellent value for the money.

Yelp
this place was a lifesaver to me one cold night when i got into a fight with my friend while backpacking in berlin about 6 years ago i needed to find a place to rest my head for the evening. nice atmosphere, friendly staff, central location near warschauer str. and a hot shower! what more could ya ask for!! oh yeah, and cheap prices too.
