I visited for Daniela Maiorano’s ‘A Modo Mio’ Spring Kitchen residency. The website said no reservations, walk-ins only and a DM I sent on Instagram went unanswered. I arrived at 5pm on the dot, but was told all the tables inside were already booked. I was offered a spot at the bar but only for 45 minutes, so I ended up sitting outside instead. When I asked the wait staff about the booking process, they weren’t sure and had to check. I was told that tables were reserved for the chef’s friends and family, which was confusing given the “walk-ins only” message online. The food itself was very good. The only complaint was that the broad beans in the spring vegetable and guanciale dish hadn’t been peeled, which made them a bit tough. Service was warm and helpful when we could get someone’s attention, but stretched thin. The biggest hiccup came with dessert: we ordered and waited 40 minutes with no check-in, eventually finding out the order had never gone through. To their credit, the staff handled it well by comping the dessert and giving us a glass of wine each on the house.

Not too crowded as it's a smaller place. Cofee's great and service was bubbly and upbeat. The cake and whipped lemony cream was to die for. Honestly couldn't recommend a better place for a quick refresher.

The marinated leek toast was absolutely incredible, the sunhands plate was also very good. The tea & coffee were good. The staff is very friendly and the place just has a good vibe. There's seating both outside and inside, including bench seating. I would recommend.

maybe this is a trend now but it's nice to find a cafe that has a very reasonable and delicious breakfast (dippy egg) plus great coffee and service. thank goodness it's not local to me or i'll be eating way too much butter than i should be.

If I could, I'd give it 6 stars. Unassuming cool corner hangout. Small menu and everything was just right. The portions of food were perfect, great flavours and lots of care and skill. The staff helped us with wine and basically just left us alone to enjoy. But when we wanted to have a chat, they were warm and engaging. Through the big windows we could watch the chaos of Carlton unfold, but inside it was paradise.

Breakfast was perfection. Nothing ordinary about Sunhands. We shared a divine cake after but no photo because it was gone in a flash! Great coffee, friendly staff & atmosphere. Go anytime of day, your taste buds will thank you 😊
