I visited for Daniela Maiorano’s ‘A Modo Mio’ Spring Kitchen residency. The website said no reservations, walk-ins only and a DM I sent on Instagram went unanswered. I arrived at 5pm on the dot, but was told all the tables inside were already booked. I was offered a spot at the bar but only for 45 minutes, so I ended up sitting outside instead.
When I asked the wait staff about the booking process, they weren’t sure and had to check. I was told that tables were reserved for the chef’s friends and family, which was confusing given the “walk-ins only” message online.
The food itself was very good. The only complaint was that the broad beans in the spring vegetable and guanciale dish hadn’t been peeled, which made them a bit tough.
Service was warm and helpful when we could get someone’s attention, but stretched thin. The biggest hiccup came with dessert: we ordered and waited 40 minutes with no check-in, eventually finding out the order had never gone through. To their credit, the staff handled it well by comping the dessert and giving us a glass of wine each on the house.
