Short ride from Zermatt. Good spot to stroll around and even sunset :) ski slopes, cafe. It should be beautiful in Summer, too.

This is a scenic spot accessible by cable car from Zellmatt. Unfortunately, the cable car to Blauherd was closed due to a rockslide, but the trek to Lake Leisee and Lake Mosche was pleasant, surrounded by fields of beautifully blooming alpine flowers. There's a heart-shaped monument at Zunnegg, so taking a photo of the Matterhorn there makes a great keepsake. Along the way, we encountered a group of Schwarzhalsziege black-necked goats and took a commemorative photo.

Visited on a cloudy day in May when it didn't seem worth it to spend the money to go up the Gornergrat. The view was still pretty cool and reasonably priced with the half fare card. Would have been even better if the Matterhorn wasn't being shy.

Great place for hiking. If weather allows you can Matterhorn can be seen from everywhere. Recommend to do the 5-lake hike.

The first station of the cable car. The view here is already very good. Many hiking routes around, but if you’re going for the 5 lakes hike, you should ride up one more station to Blauherd and hike down to Sunnegga.

Great view of the Matterhorn for a slight cheaper mode of transport than the Gornergrat Railway. Frequent arrivals/ departure from either end. Would just be beneficial if it ran a little later. We thoroughly enjoyed the mode of transport and the view!

From Blauherd, we began our 5 Lakes hike, passing through: • Stellisee (famous for perfect Matterhorn reflections) • Grindjisee • Grünsee • Moosjisee • Leisee (near Sunnegga) Instead of returning via transport, we continued hiking all the way back down to Zermatt, taking in lush meadows, peaceful trails, and constant Matterhorn views. It was a fulfilling, nature-filled descent that gave us both exercise and quiet alpine beauty. 🧭 Travel Tips • Start early—clouds often cover the Matterhorn after 3 PM. • Weather changes fast—check the forecast each morning. • Bring picnic snacks and water—there are plenty of scenic stops along the trail. • Sturdy hiking shoes are a must. • Sunnegga to Blauherd cable car is convenient and offers a scenic shortcut up the mountain. ⛰️ Final Thoughts This route is one of the best ways to experience the 5-Seenweg without backtracking, and the hike down to Zermatt adds a peaceful, unhurried finish to the adventure. Highly recommended for those looking for a half- to full-day hike with alpine views, turquoise lakes, and glimpses of Valais Blacknose sheep or goats.

We visited Sunnegga on a summer day and enjoyed the experience. The funicular ride was efficient and offered nice views. Once at the top, we found well-marked trails leading to different points of interest. The lake was a peaceful spot with a clear reflection of the Matterhorn. There were dining options with outdoor seating, allowing us to take in the scenery. The area was family-friendly, with activities for children. The altitude provided a refreshing break from the heat.
