Sunny's Diner

The food used to be so good. When ever I'm here in the valley I come here or used too. Food taste and looks like leftovers. Pancakes taste they are frozen. No wonder it's dead in here. Any day of the week it's a wait.

We stopped in for breakfast and had a couple of skillets. The service and our meals were great! This place will be on our regular rotation of local joints.

Had eggs, home fries, and bacon with a biscuit and gravy on the side. Everything was done well and super yummy. Except for the sausage gravy, this was the worst gravy I've had at a diner. Your gravy should not look like grits. Besides the gravy this was really good breakfast. The biscuit was probably one of the best I've had at a diner. Eggs were cooked perfect, taters were yummy and bacon was delicious.

This was my first time visiting and I LOVED it! My friend did Uber eats and said she was always picking up orders here so it might be worth the try. I loved sitting in a booth by the windows. I ordered the signature waffle for my sweet tooth and did the $4 add on option to add potatoes and bacon. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. I would return.

We visited during mid afternoon, so we were post lunch pre dinner. We waited maybe a minute to be seated. Our order was taken in a decent amount of time. I asked for a soda with my meal, but it never arrived. As he brought the tab to settle up, he remembered I had asked for "something." He did offer to give me a complimentary water to go. He started us with water, so at least I had something to drink with my meal. We opted to sit in a booth instead of a table. There was an older gentleman sitting at my back. They were finishing up their meal, and much like other older men, once done with a meal, he proceeded to blow his nose. That was a nice addition to the atmosphere and ambiance. All in all, it was a good meal.

The food was absolutely delicious! I got the protein pancakes and my husband got an omelette. The portions were huge! My husband said he’s never had an omelette that fresh. Service was slow despite it looking like they were over staffed. The servers stood around the soda dispenser and there were so many of them it felt like we were being stared at while we ate. Our server immediately greeted us but that was the last quick thing that was done. We’ll definitely come back but probably asked to be sat away from the drink station.

What a charming local diner! Although the dining area could use some renovation, the food and service were outstanding. I wish they offered an ad-free music subscription.

This place has been here for decades, and they have really hit their stride. My eyes literally rolled up in my head when I took my first bite of my Farmers Benedict. Everyone is friendly, and there's a huge variety on the menu. Vegetarian friendly!

I've driven by Sunny's hundreds of times in Tempe and have always wondered how it was. Friends of mine swear by it as one of the best breakfast spots in town. From the outside it looks like just another breakfast spots....its not. I'm kinda surprised it doesn't get brought up more often, this place is great! Service was fast and friendly even though the place was fairly crowded. The inside is nothing special, typical booth and table seating options, but the food was amazing! Everything was good! On a scale of 1 to 10 I'll go back....Ive been back, I'll keep going back? All of the above!

This is a very clean restaurant and I have never had a bad meal. Improvements, A smaller menu will help. And a reduced portion size for seniors. Service was great, attentive but not annoying

I'm here for spring training baseball games and one of the men in our group suggested we come here from breakfast before heading out to a game and the two of us did. The restaurant about a 1/2 mile from our hotel so walked here. I ordered a chocolate chip and banana pancake that was absolutely delicious, maybe the best I've ever had. Bella, our server, could not have been nicer. She has a great sense of humor, was helpful in answering any questions and came back a couple times during our meal to see if we needed more tea, water or anything else. The restaurant is on University Dr. not far from ASU so an easy walk from the college. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area for breakfast or lunch.

I highly recommend the Country Breakfast. And the NewMexico omelette. The service is very chipper. The ambience makes you feel like family.

5 star service, 3.5 star food. I liked the home fries -- much closer to potato than fried, which I like. Plenty of food but not too memorable.

Favorite breakfast diner in the area! Reasonable prices, large portions of fresh food and friendly service. Our serve Bella was so sweet and welcoming, and the girl who checked us out at the end was so kind. Even the man who dropped our food off was so pleasant and made sure everything was okay! Plenty of seating and parking. We got the farmer skillet and it was delicious and the country friend steak. We had coffee and enjoyed the AC on a hot day.

Come in on Easter Sunday before the madness started, food was yummy today French toast was delicious and my husband waffle was yummy, the young man who served us was friendly and helpful,has a home feel vibes to it. Definitely have to be back to try the mimosas one day

Sunny diner is a go to breakfast spot on the weekends if you are craving diner food. I was craving a burger for breakfast and it fulfilled my craving

Service was OK, food was pretty good. We asked for a side of salsa and server said they were pretty small so we ordered 3.... The sides were very large and they charged us $2 each which we really only needed 1... so not sure on the miscommunication of sizes lol. Breakfast enchiladas with chorizo were good but the service really made it to be a 3 instead of 4 star review.

Tried this local place not far from my home on a Sunday for brunch and it was overall great! Tastes better than any other brunch place and is fairly affordable! The service was great and I loved to see the effort all the workers put in to make sure we have everything we need to enjoy this meal. I also liked the idea that you don't have to get a full portion of pancakes you can only order one. Will be back for breakfast soon!

First time in our servers name was Cynthia and she was very sweet. She was attentive and knowledgeable of their menu which was very helpful. I had the waffle classic which was good except my syrup was given to me cold and made my food cold faster. Mike had the Mexican omelet which was huge, he got his with home fries and bacon. He had been here before so it may become a hide away breakfast joint for us, we'll see. They are only open for breakfast and lunch here. We enjoyed the dinning room booth seating which was Nice and spacious as I had my work with me, and it's nice and quiet if you are working. Cozy lil spot.

Been eyeing this diner for a couple months now since moving to Mesa. They did not disappoint, our server was a young gentleman who was attentive and kind. The BLT was sooo good, fresh produce (avocado is a must) and fries were not soggy and greasy. My boyfriend got the chocolate chip waffle and loved it. My only complaint is I wish they were open later for the breakfast for dinner lovers! Will return.

Our server was very very awesome! I did not get his name though, unfortunately. Super cute spot with a large amount of quality breakfast items, including Mexican options. My chorizo tacos were very spicy and delicious! Edit: his name is Alex!

Over priced for what you get. Their "home fries" is just a bland smashed up baked potato with no seasoning. I doubt I'd eat here again.

Good was amazing! I definitely love the fact that there's different options to choose from. The service was great. When came in, the waiter helped us to the table and ask if I wanted any drinks besides water. The waiter also gave me extra time when I couldn't decide any thing. I would say, because this place is completely out of my well known area, I do love the environment. Similar to an IHOP or Denny's, which gave me comfort. I really enjoyed my time at Sunny's Diner.

Food was so good!! It was filling and heavy imo but that's not a bad thing in this case as a broke student trying to save money. Total order was $51. Went at late morning on a Tuesday and the place was a bit empty so it was rather quiet for me and my friend. Will definitely be going back soon!

The breakfast waffle and Irish omelet were delicious but we were disappointed, they don't give veterans discounts or AARP discounts. They do give ASU students discounts though...pretty sad, they don't honor veterans. We will not going back but I suppose the students are happy.

The menu has been shortened, no longer offer Gyros and eggs, sad face, large portions of food- you will leave full! They are packed late morning! Fast service good food!

Delicious food and amazing customer service! Always kind people in here who go out of their way to make sure you're happy! My coffee cup was never empty and my food was served fresh and in a timely manner! Highly recommend especially the potatoes!

Friendly staff. I had the pork chops and eggs. They were excellent. I would highly recommend this place despite the furniture needing to be updated ( my booth seat had long standing tear in it). We will be back.

I got a terrible case of food poisoning that had my body self purging for 2 days. It was the only meal I had that day. I assume it was from bacon as my friend had a similar meal but without bacon/

Breakfast Special Mexico Omlet got my husband's seal of approval. The Farmer's skillet is an easy choice for this vegetarian. Substitute pancakes for your side. They are mouth-watering. It always gets busy on Sundays around 10:00. So if you don't want a wait, get there early. Service is always efficient and always served with a smile. I love the old school look of the diner and you.have a great view of the mountain from the beautiful big windows. As a bonus, the last few times we have been there, they have SpongeBob playing. If you don't like SpongeBob we can't be friends.

WATCH. YOUR. BILL. The kids menu advertised that drinks are included, according to our waitress they "actually are not" and her "manager doesn't allow that" so you're charged $3.89 PER CHILDS DRINK. On top of that, the biscuits and gravy tasted of chemicals, the home fries had zero seasoning and the food overall needed help. 10/10 will never recommend this place. Absolutely disgraceful and so deceiving. How they have good reviews is beyond me. Replying to Alex: None of my children ordered hot chocolate so that's a bold faced lie. They had sprite & iced tea. The biscuits & gravy were not removed from my bill. She also initially charged us for adult grilled cheese meals & not the child ones for 2 of my kids. Maybe speak with your staff AGAIN & ensure they have the correct upset customer.

Food was good . The service was great as well, with our food arriving quickly. Typical looking diner with lots of menu options. Iced tea was good too. Nothing spectacular on the outside of the restaurant, and some benches need some immediate attention to the upholstery, but that's not why I go to a restaurant. Worth the visit.

Sunnys has been consistently good for alot of years and today was no exception. Chicano Benedict with house made Chorizo was special.

I came here today with a friend and it was very busy. That was a good sign of what we had in store for food. The menu is one of the largest I've seen in a long while. I wanted to try everything! It looked so good. I settled on the California Benedict without tomatoes. The home fries were so good as well, I was on cloud nine. The eggs Benedict was really tasty too. My only issue was the hollandaise sauce was a bit too tangy. I'm not sure what it was but it was thicker and tangier than I'm used to with this dish. I would definitely order from here again and try many other menu options in the near future.

We went in for breakfast this morning. I had 2 eggs, home fries, bacon and toast. The eggs were over easy and good. The bacon was fatty and flavorless. The home fries were way too overcooked. Dark brown almost burnt on top and the potatoes underneath were so done they were like mashed potatoes. Not very appetizing. I don't think i will be back.

I love this place so much. I want my ashes to be spread here. Service is good and I feel so at home in this restaurant. Super casual and laid back environment. 10/10

Sunny's is my husband and my new favorite breakfast/brunch spot. We went on a tour of Tempe's breakfast restaurants to compare and Sunny's is by far the best. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and it's a calm enough atmosphere that we can hear each other talk without raising our voices. The food is excellent, part of the reason we go back is to try things we haven't had before! Our favorites so far are their waffles, skillets, and biscuits. And though neither of us are ASU students, it's nice to see they have an ASU student discount. Sunny's, I'm sure we'll be back again soon!

We walked in and we're seated immediately. All the staff were extremely nice and patient, even letting us hang out in our booth after we paid. My first time ordering an eggs Benedict and it did not disappoint! They even had tapatio at the table which is my favorite hot sauce. The corned beef hash was cooked with perfection. Exactly how I like it, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The mimosa flight is amazing, pomegranate flavor is my favorite. Need a quick delicious sit down diner in Tempe, definitely recommend this place!

I had the pork chops and eggs with pancakes instead of toast. Not a long wait and the food was good. The pico de gallo they brought out went really good with the eggs and potatoes, I'm sure this makes their more mexican style plates tasty as well. The server was also really friendly, I forget his name lol. Cool paintings on their walls too! I had to stop and look on the way out

Food has always been good here. Our family loves this diner. Two of my kiddos who are attending ASU love the student discount when they come here. Faves include the chicken fried steak, pancakes, pork chops or steak breakfast plates, the Mexican selections, and corned beef hash. The Philly, club, and western burger are so good, too. We love the fries so much. Breakfast hash browns are a hit or miss (this visit they tasted old, though crispy). I would not recommend any of the coffee drinks as I don't think they are well equipped or have the knowledge to make it, especially if you're used to other coffee franchises. Just stick to the regular coffee. It's good. The ladies work really hard there when it's busy, but when it's slow, you're not going to be very well attended to. You see them, but they're not going out of their way to come back to your table unless you flag them down. It's alright though. We keep coming there to eat! Sunny's is one of our faves.

Classic diner food, reasonably priced and delicious! I tried their chocolate chip waffle (an extravaganza of chocolate chips, and lots of chocolate syrup and whipped cream). Very rich but very good. I would honestly recommend it for dessert though. The regular waffles were solid as well. Their biscuits and gravy is tasty, I personally found it just a tad too salty for me. But the biscuits were light and the gravy was meaty and rich. I love that they don't skimp on the gravy either. We always enjoy the food here!

A great mom and pop diner. Excellent menu selection. We visited twice. The first time we had omelets. The second time we had taco salads. Both times, the food was excellent. I had the homemade chorizo sausage on my omelet, then again on my taco salad - my-o-my it is good with a good amount of spice. Service was very good on both visits. Lots of ASU students working there and we got some good ones. I wish this place was in my town.

New favorite breakfast spot! Our waiter Raphael was outstanding. He went out of his way to make our daughter's breakfast special and memorable. Was very very kind and always asking if we needed anything and that we were taken care of. The energy at this place is so calm and welcoming and friendly. The food itself was outstanding so much flavor and perfectly cooked and seasoned! 10/10 recommend this cozy diner

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Sunny's Diner 1825 E University Drive Tempe Companion and I decided to try this restaurant for a breakfast and were totally surprised. Sunny's has been at this location for a long time and I have passed it by probably a hundred times without stopping in. While parking is a bit of a problem in a crowded parking lot, the inside is spacious. We were seated immediately and were offered a drink to start with. Coffee was very good and an assortment of creamers accompanied it. The menu is huge and it takes a bit of time to peruse the entire thing, but we eventually made our choices. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast which came with three eggs, hash browns and English muffin {my choice}. What arrived was a huge portion. A perfectly done portion of chicken fried steak along with 3 nicely cooked eggs the way I ordered them and excellent hash browns. All items were cooked exactly the way I ordered them. Companion ordered the Cowboy Skillet. Home Fries layered with sauteed onions, bell peppers, melted jack cheese, chicken fried steak and sausage gravy. Only complaint was that the portion was huge and could not be finished. Sanitation was good and service by Hailey was well above what is usual in diners. A good place for a breakfast or lunch but bring your appetite! 5 stars for excellent food, service and sanitation. A rarity these days.

Sunny's Diner: "No gimmicks, just good food." Sunny's is not your trendy Sunday Funday spot and that's okay! Sometimes you want big, home style, no fuss portions! Sunny's IS the spot for that! Sunny's menu is extensive from pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelettes, Benedict's, skillets, burritos, biscuits, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. This visit we ordered the spinach Florentine (my attempt at having a healthier breakfast) and banana chocolate chip pancakes. The hollandaise sauce was a nice touch on the spinach Florentine! The banana chocolate chip pancakes were so good!! We had them without syrup as it was sweet enough. We easily could have split our order/saved half for another day but we didn't, haha! Skip iHop, Denny's, and the trendy Sunday Funday restaurant and come to Sunny's! You'll save $$ and be full and satisfied! Sunny's does simplicity at its best!

The delivery service was good, but the food left much to be desired. I had a craving for some really good corned beef hash, and instead of some thing made fresh with quality ingredients, it tasted like it came out of a can. The cottage cheese I ordered on the side was OK, but this morning it tasted terrible. I won't be ordering from here again.

Been driving by for years and always say, I should stop in and eat. This week I stopped. Mimosas. Bloody Marys and yummy food is what I found. I had a cranberry mimosa and the cowboy skillet. It's loaded with chicken fried steak, potatoes, cheese, gravy and eggs. It was FANTASTIC I'll be going back for sure.

Service was very good but the Denver omelette was not good Rubbery cheese with no cheddar flavor and the onions and bell peppers were raw

Delicious spot to stop for lunch and breakfast, the burgers were juicy and a good size and the tamale breakfast was the perfect "brunch" for me. It was clean inside, a bit dated but very inviting and the staff was so welcoming and very attentive.

I have eaten at Sunny's Diner several times, either by myself or with colleagues. Today, for the first time, I brought my wife for breakfast. During the meal, she lifted her FULL glass of ice water and the glass broke, spilling ice water all down her front and into her leather shoes. We get it, it was an accident and nobody's fault. It is how the situation was handled that is problematic. The first waitress who came by said she would be right back with towels. She never came back. My wife was left soaking in ice water. We finally had to flag down our waiter, Joseph, to bring a towel. We got through the meal and when the bill came, we were charged full price in spite of my wife having to try to enjoy her meal (her first experience at Sunny's) while cold and soaking wet. When this was pointed out, to Joseph's credit, he did take 10% off. Thankfully, there was no real harm done, just a lack of consideration by employees.

This place isn't much to look at from the outside, but inside there's a world of deliciousness to be found! Service was fantastic and they were able to accommodate my dietary needs. Hubs got the green chili omelette which was great and I got the all meat omelette with chorizo added. Both were excellent. The kid got the Mickey pancakes and was envious of our omelettes. Lol we'll definitely be back! Love support local restaurants with great food!

Had breakfast with our 4 boys for my husbands birthday.. (1 yr old twins, 2 & 5 year old), normally they share all of their food.. food was still very pricey. Aside from price being a little high, our waitress forgot all of our drinks and didn't put in our full order, so when my husband and I were eating, we asked what happened to the rest of our food, the waitress said she forgot to put it in.. When my husband took our boys to the restroom, it turned out their water was shut off, so no one was able to flush or wash their hand before going back to eat, which was very disgusting.. Overall, wasn't the best experience for spending $80 on a breakfast like this.
