Absolutely Amazing! Service was exceptional. Fodd was even better. Short wait to get seated and food did not take long either. The server was a jokester and was very entertaining. The entire staff were very kind and courteous! OH! And don't forget the fresh pineapple juice! It's delicious! We had eggs Benedict x2, Monte Cristo. Ham and cheese croissant. Chocolate chip pancakes and a breakfast burrito. All were beautifully plated and tasted amazing. We will return before we leave the island this week!

I adore this place! Each time we come here the wait staff are so friendly and the food is so delicious! I ordered their Loco Moco which is on point and fills you up, and a cup of coffee. The beef patty is grilled to perfection, the rice is superb, and the mushroom and onion gravy is salty and delicious. The eggs are soft, perfect for covering the rice and patty with. Grab a shovel because this is quite the plate that I somehow manage to always polish off. If you don't know what to get, the wait staff has brilliant suggestions. My wife got french toast and a cinnamon roll from the hosts recommendation and it did not disappoint. It was so good. The cinnamon butter made a moist cocoon in the middle of the bun and I could just bathe in it. I was going to take a picture of the food as I got it, but I was so hungry. Here's a picture of when I remembered. This is one of my favorite places and I will always come here. Love it!

There was a line of people waiting to get in when we arrived at 7:30 am. Still, we got in quickly and they were upfront about the food taking about 45 minutes. It was worth the wait though. The food was very good and we could take turns look around the area while waiting. The staff were friendly and gave us good advice on places to visit before our upcoming departure from the island. The coffee was great so we got a to-go cup and headed out...but will be back someday.

Cash only. Great place for a bite before taking the ferry over to lanai. French toast and lox Benedict were both great. We arrived at 8:10am and there were plenty of seats and we had plenty of time to eat - around 45 mins total. By 9am it became much busier.

If you want fast service, or need to use a credit card, turn around and find someplace else. However, if you're looking for excellent food at a reasonable price the Sunrise Cafe is worth the wait. You will not be disappointed. I had the lox bagel with generous portions. The tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce was almost a complete salad. Service was excellent. The porch near the entrance is unique, with trees growing up from the floor. Sunrise Cafe is an eating experience I highly recommend.

Google
Very good food. I had the breakfast burrito which was very good. My companion had the Greek bagel which she enjoyed greatly. They only take cash, so come prepared. The kitchen is a bit small so the food takes a while. Be prepared to wait a bit. The portions are pretty good size and the food is definitely worth it.

Google
It was much better than our expectations! We ordered a greek bagel, side of potatoes, buttermilk pancakes and fresh pineapple juice. Everything was delicious. The pineapple juice was the best I ever had. Would definitely recommend this place! Edit: went again for the greek bagel. Side of potatoes, chocolate chip pancakes with bananas and strawberries and plain bagel with cream cheese. This time got the large fresh pineapple juice!

Google
Food and fruits were good! Staff were very friendly and there was a pretty tree as part of the restaurant. Beautiful views out back with the ocean right at its doorstep, almost literally! We may have come during rush hour and the wait for our two dishes was about 40 minutes and the breakfast burrito was slightly spicy which wasn't disclosed in the description. Was a good meal all in all.

Yelp
Food: 8/10 Service: 6/10 Ambiance: 9/10 Sorry for the short review- just hard to explain and not easy to rate.

Yelp
(Late review from September - October 2022) I came here for a late breakfast before doing ziplining in Lahaina. It's a family owned joint so it had a very cozy, familial vibe. A little on the pricey side though but you're in a touristy side of Lahaina so it's kind of expected. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with a side of over easy eggs. It was very good and yes the price was a little high for the portion size, but it's always nice to support local businesses even while traveling.

Yelp
Hole in the wall type of restaurant that looks very assuming. They take cash only and no credit cards or debit cards. The menu is extensive & is on par with any of the 3-4 $ restaurants just a few feet down the street from them. I wish we had found this place earlier in the trip!!! We split the coffee frosty they had which was super delicious, it taste like a tropical Wendy's frosty. For breakfast my husband got the eggs Benedict which he devoured within 5 minutes (it was just that good!) I got the papaya with cottage cheese which was the perfect breakfast after I've been eating nothing but loco mocos and musubis all week. Get their early, this place gets packed (for a food reason!) the no frills, in n out dining style really added to the charm here.

Yelp
We ate here a number of mornings while on vacation and it never disappoints. Note to self: it is cash only! So don't go in without it! The menu is so great and it is truly local with the prices being lower than any of the standards on the Lahaina strip. Make sure you have the time as well. They tell you everytime you go in that the wait to sit, order and eat could be up to 45 min due to the fact they only have one cook and it takes time. The service here is so pleasant it makes the stay even more relaxing. When you leave one of the ladies will yell out to you, see you tomorrow! And she is right. We did go back to see them again and again! Well worth the time and taste!

Yelp
Holy cow this place is good. It is a perfect hidden gem for this area. It is cash only so come prepared. The place is very home feeling and simple. We got the moco loco, macadamia nut pancakes, eggs and Portuguese sausage and the lox Benedict. My friend said "if I lived here I would come here everyday to eat this" referring to the Benedict. I got the smoothie and it was refreshing and a perfect combo of not too sweet. The moco loco was insanely good. The gravy that they had just made your mouth water and left you wanting more. I loved this food and the waitress was super sweet and attentive to us. I will 100% be going back here when I am in town next.

Yelp
This is a tiny cafe that doesn't look much from the outside, as you enter inside there's good seating options available, with sea facing windows. They do have patio seating in the front! We went here as a group and ended ordering multiple food options, loved each and every item.. eggs Benedict was the best... pancakes were lovely. I tried the Greek garden bagel, which was topped with huge pile of veggies and sprouts and some feta cheese... service was fast and people were friendly... Lahaina has lot of activities to do... this is a nice place to come to for breakfast or brunch!

Yelp
Sunrise Cafe makes you feel like you're a local in Maui. Very clearly a "Mom & Pop shop", it's quite humble looking on the outside and interior of the building (maybe even slightly run-down?) so you could miss it if you're not looking for it. PRO TIP: It's a cash-only restaurant, so be prepared! The restaurant feels like you're eating breakfast at someone's house-- on the positive side, everyone is super friendly and warm. The eclectic mugs and plates adds to the homey feel, and the food was reasonably priced (very much unlike most touristy stops!) and was worth the value. We started off with a Cinnamon Bun to split, which we consumed very quickly due to how hungry we were. I had a Breakfast Burrito (I was skeptical about the tropical salsa in the burrito but it totally works!!!) but I do wish it had breakfast potatoes as a side rather then the salad (which felt like it was mostly there for aesthetic). I stole some breakfast potatoes off my husband's plate from his Eggs Benedict meal ("it was very tasteful!" - hubby). Overall, the food was good and totally worth the value. The downside, however, is that with the "homey feel" you're also getting a literal breakfast cooked on what looks like someone's actual kitchen. So when the entire restaurant was full our server immediately warned us we'd have a long wait for the food (it seems as though they were making one dish at a time, per table at a time). We waited almost an hour for our food. We even heard the server later on tell another family it would be "at least an hour to eat because of the rush"-- and their rush is seemingly when all 12 tables are full. The wait really took away from the experience. If you can get there really early or maybe after "regular breakfast hours", it could be worth it, but I would not eat here during regular breakfast hours unless you are prepared to wait an hour to eat.

Yelp
2 stars for bad service. Waiter was not patient with us and pretty rude. Location is pretty cool though.
google avatar

Mitali N.

Yelp
Very friendly family run place. Service is slow, they do inform you before ordering that food will take time. Food is very fresh and delish. We got the vegetarian bagel, belgian waffle and plate of fruits. Found the fresh fruit smoothie to be a bit tangy.
google avatar

Rosie H.

Yelp
Breakfast was great! We had to wait 45 minutes for our food but they let us know ahead of time and gave us a table. The photo is only half of my Greek bagel that was full of fresh veggies. A wonderful blend of textures with a perfectly toasted everything bagel. My husband had a Monti Cristo that he said was one of the best he's had. And the fruit smoothie was huge and delicious.

Yelp
Ummmm, like, yeah. You should go here. Inside tip though. If you want to go early, make sure you get there about a half hour before they open. Spacing seems limited and ticket times can take a while the later it gets. This will be one of my morning rituals when I go back to Maui. Food: The Salmon Benedict was super tasty. The hollandaise beautifully smothered the top and flowed down the sides. Like volcanic yellow lava flowing just right. To compliment the tasty Benedict were the cooked-just-right breakfast potatoes. Truly a great meal full of flavor and visually appealing as well. Service: I believe this is a family run business. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Great vibes all around! Ambiance: Great vibe for being on Front Street. If you are looking for something low key and mellow then you'll love Sunrise Cafe. All in all, such a great hang to wake up to for some breakfast to start your day. Good for single people and couples. Families would find this place appealing too, but make sure you double check on food ticket times if you are in a rush or have restless young ones.

Yelp
My husband and I went there for breakfast and I had the sunrise platter while he ordered the lox benedict. Mine was good, nothing special and my husband's was ok. We replaced his potatoes with fruits and I didn't appreciate that they put all in the same plate. The fruits got all the benedict sauce, which wasn't good. The order takes a while to come, even though we arrived before the place got crowded, so plan for that. I'd give the place a 3.5 but since this option isn't available, will go for a 3.

Yelp
Loco Moco was delicious with onions and mushrooms in the gravy! Very friendly server, mahalo.

Yelp
This is what I imagine Hawaii to be like along the lines of 50 First Dates. A breakfast shack on the beach. The place is very eccentric and looks like just a house converted to a restaurant with a makeshift extra room. They were pretty packed around 9 and the food took very long to come out. Very long, but I understand it's island time. So we just enjoyed our coffee and cinnamon roll. Cinnamon roll was decent. It was a little dry for me. I ordered the lox Benedict and my husband got regular Benedict. My lox Benedict was really good. Worth waiting for. If you can be patient, great place to grab breakfast! After, go walk to the beach and enjoy the fresh air!

Yelp
Good spot for a reasonably priced, tasty breakfast. We didn't have a wait for a table, the server was cool, friendly, made some jokes and quick with service. Kids had a pancake eggs and bacon combo they shared. I had a spam breakfast burrito that was really good. Husband had a pineapple fruit boat (such good fruit, very fresh) and a really good cinnamon roll. Another table has a loco moco and a monte cristo that looked great. Solid breakfast at a reasonable price. We spent about $100 for 4 adults and 2 kids

Yelp
Miss this place so very much. It was destroyed in the Lahaina fire. Hoping they can rebuild again in Lahaina but with new rules on being away from the water, it will be difficult. Hope the county pays them well to force the move.
google avatar

Mindy H.

Yelp
This place is a bit hidden gem. We found it thanks to Yelp. A small mom and pop place that seems to be busy often. You get breakfast with a side of jokes here. Definitely a favorite of ours and the kids enjoyed it. When your done head to the shore a few feet away.
google avatar

Yelp
Had breakfast in this little shack restaurant, located on Front St in Lahaina. The restaurant is tucked behind a larger building and has a tree inside. The restaurant looks run down, is patched together and is not a place to go if you're in a hurry. It also is 'Cash Only'. But let me tell you, the food is great, the staff is friendly and worth the wait. Give this place a visit, remember you're on 'Island Time' and enjoy the vibe!
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
If you're looking for a local vibe with no frills but lots of chill, this is the place. Super sweet service with hearty helpings of classic breakfast fare. The fruit bowl with yogurt and granola is Perfect to split. The special with French toast was just like mamma makes. This place is rough and ready, don't expect anything fancy.
google avatar

Pearl L.

Yelp
Love this place, like the other reviews have noted: 1. This place is cash only and 2. This place will take time to run food/has slower service. The food at Sunrise Cafe is so phenomenal and the service is incredibly friendly. I would recommend coming with extra time to spare if this is a stop before any appointments since they do run on island time so things will get to you a bit longer than you might be used to.
google avatar

Guillermo C.

Yelp
This is a great little cafe! You get a sense of the grandmas cooking. The food is very delicious! I like the Hawaiian vibes so I got the Loco Moco. Everything was cooked to perfection! A lot of flavor in the plate and very filling. You can never go wrong! The gentleman waiting our tables always loves to crack jokes! It's a good time meanwhile we wait for our food. Wait times in the other hand are lengthy. Be prepared to wait quite a bit of time for receive your food. They tend to get pretty busy and seem to be low on staff occasionally. All in all, it's worth the wait. Just make sure you're not already hangry.
google avatar

Harlan W.

Yelp
Simple restaurant where you can sit near the water (indoor only I think). Good service, local flavors on menu. Cash only - about $15/plate ish. Rustic wood interior with that feeling of Hawaiian ambiance.

Yelp
Leaving this review so you know what to expect. I know all experiences are not like mine, but I had a terrible experience at Sunrise Cafe in Lahaina. Also I know that this is a family run business and I respect that, but it's important to make sure your customers are informed and happy no matter how your business is run. We were looking for a place to get a bite to eat for breakfast and found sunrise cafe. We sat down and ordered relatively quickly, and we're under the impression we would get our food in a reasonable time (20-30 mins at most). There were no expectations set. 30 minutes passed and I asked a server to check on my order and he told me that it's coming and that it's all a process. Another 15 minutes pass and we ask another server / owner and she said that they are going through each order one by one and there are lots of people in the back. At this point, I'm hungry, almost an hour has passed and I'm not expecting my food to arrive anytime soon. We asked them if they hadn't started on our order yet, if they could cancel our order. Unsurprisingly, she said they hadn't started the order yet (which means the food would have taken over an hour to arrive) and that they could cancel. Thankfully they cancelled the order and we just paid for coffee, but I left hungry , frustrated, and upset that I had spent my limited time on the island experiencing such poor customer service.

Yelp
Food was great! We tried pancakes, loco Moco, eggs benedict, shrimp mushroom omelette, waffles!

Yelp
We found this place after passing on the crowded Grindz cafe and being turned away by cafe cafe Maui. Great place run by a local by the ocean. Cash only but well worth it. Food is great!
google avatar

Steph G.

Yelp
Local mom and pop breakfast spot. They open at 7:30 am, first come first served, and cash only. This spot is super cute and has views to the ocean. I love how every time we have come here, the staff is always super attentive and friendly. They really make you feel part of the Ohana. Their menu is really great! But their Loco Moco is a must try. The gravy is unbelievably tasty and I wish I could bottle it up and take it back to the mainland with me. A must stop if you are in Lahaina. Right along Front Street. Come early because the place gets PACKED! I don't think I have ever been here without there being a line just before opening time. Service is always super quick, but it's still nice to get first dibs on your favorite spot.
google avatar

Chase K.

Yelp
Food was great just took about an hour for food to come out but the gentleman working there let us know before seating us so we were prepared. Definitely recommend coming here though!
google avatar

Ryan Z.

Yelp
Food is ok but it is cash only and waited for over 30mins. Should have called and ordered before arriving.
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
Good Hawaiian breakfast of scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage, and rice and also tasty waffles, this place is easy to miss because it's tucked around the corner, and the seating is in the back. Not fancy, but clean and tasty with comparatively reasonable prices and friendly service.

Jamie P.

Yelp
The wait is long but it is well worth it!! I ordered the loco moco it was amazingly delicious all smothered with their awesome gravy I must try breakfast venue in Lahaina. Sunrise Cafe
google avatar

Nancy O.

Yelp
In Maui I wanted an authentic breakfast. I ordered the loco moco. It was soooo good! It's a small family owned restaurant. Food took about 30-45 min but all well worth it!
google avatar

Mike Q.

Yelp
A great little hole in the wall cafe :) Me and my girl had loco mocos, mom had a fresh fruit salad. Food was solid and the price was fair. Great staff , seems like it's family run. Love supporting the smaller places on the island.

Michele L.

Yelp
We ate here mid July on our last day in Maui. The sunrise cafe was such a cute family owned cafe that was built around the trees. The owners are so nice and the food was delicious. We are praying the sunrise cafe family is safe, our hearts are with them and Lahaina.
google avatar

Atif J.

Yelp
Food was well below average and the prices were sky high. Restaurant feels sticky and dirty tables. Smells funny. Lots of hippies and unkempt crowd. I would avoid
google avatar

Er3yn G.

Yelp
CASH ONLY This place is adorable. Our waiter was very witty and quick. I ended up going with the eggs Benedict- it came out with cold potatoes and burned English muffin. I sent it back. It was okay. Not worth the price I paid but the breakfast burrito looked a lot better. My mother got it. About as big as an arm- totally worth the money paid. She ate every bite.
google avatar

Sam R.

Yelp
Rounding up to three stars because this seemed like a family-owned establishment and we were able to be seated upon arrival. That being said, it took an hour for our food (we arrived at 7:20). Service was a bit brutal - items in our order were forgotten, water didn't come out for a long while, and it took forever to ask for some salt with our eggs. The Portuguese sausage was really good. The other food wasn't anything crazy given the high prices. My fruit salad was just two pieces of fruit which was disappointing (pineapple and banana slice). I wouldn't come here as a tourist, but it did seem like a nice local spot.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Hands down, my favorite breakfast in Maui. Despite being in one of the most vapid, trendy parts of the island, this place has that genuine, mysterious, local, home-grown, da kine that few other business in the area have. I saw three older gentleman come it right when they opened. It seems like they have a regular friend-date here. If only we can all be so lucky someday. I wanted to get headstart on my day, so the 7am opening (hideously early for Hawaii!) lead me to this spot. It's almost a *literally* hole in the wall. It looks like a shack from the street, it's sunk back with much more space than it initially appears. It's cash only, which shouldn't surprise you if you've been to Maui before. (there are 24hr outdoor ATMs nearby in the massive shopping plexes) The menu initial appears like sloppy diner food. But, once you start seeing those dishes you will be shocked by just how original and fresh they are! I got the breakfast burrito because they are always good, and I was nervous about being disappointed. It was incredible. The homemade tropical salsa really tied it to together. The plating and presentation were also gorgeous. I also got a bowl of fruit and, unlike just about anywhere in the lower 48/Alaska, it was fresh local fruit rather than the boring/sad/typical: "90% honeydew and cantaloupe with a chunk of pineapple and three grapes". Coffee refills were frequent, free, and friendly, just as they should be! One of the servers came and put the blinds down on my outside table...I was kinda bummed. Then, a minute or two later the sun crested and blasted that exact area. They are DIALED here! Get cash, come early, and enjoy some authentic Maui in a place not exactly known for it.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Located steps from the beach, this restaurant has the feels of dining in someone's house. When you walk through the front door and to the main dining room, you pass through the kitchen. The dining area does not have A/C and the ceiling fans don't provide much help. Prepare to sweat a little as you embrace the humid air. In addition, the service is pretty slow here. We waited around half-and-hour for our food to come out. I got a loco moco and I thought it was good. The gravy was tasty/light and the hamburger patty was good. I love it when the egg yolk oozes over the dish and I was not disappointed here. You can never go wrong with a loco moco! Without a doubt, the food is good here. It just takes a little while for it to come out. The interior of the restaurant could also use some improvement but if you're ok with that, you'll enjoy it here.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Went for breakfast our last day in Maui. Was told it would be a 45 min wait due to being short one cook but island time it didn't matter to us. By far the best breakfast we had the whole time. Gotta get the Cinnamon roll !!!!! The cafe has a unique look with the trees growing around and possibly through it. Our server which I believe is the owner was very welcoming and treated us well. Definitely give them a visit and bring cash. Croissant breakfast sandwich was great as well
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Such a great spot! We may not have known it was there if not for the line we saw before our parasailing reservation... really glad they were still open afterwards (and no line - score!) Super delicious eggs Benedict, great/ funny/ entertaining service, and price on point with all of it. My Inlaws and hubby loved this place too - my only regret is that we were only able to go once. If we ever make it back to the island, we'll make it back here for sure!
google avatar

Abbie F.

Yelp
As many others have said this place is cash only. We went here for breakfast after a sunrise whale watching tour. We snagged a table and took a look at the menu. We ordered the burrito and the egg combo with special sausage. I usually don't like burritos but this one was really good. The sausage was also delicious. The service was really good! Great location in town that is close to lots of stuff!

Kevin E.

Yelp
Cash only establishment. Great food! Great service! Best breakfast in Maui. The building itself is... well, let's say "rustic". If you can get over that, you've got it made. Dining area looks rough but it's clean. I hope it never changes. It's our first stop for a meal when we visit.
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
The food was good but the waiter had us at hello. Smiling, friendly and excellent service! Right off Front Street. Plenty of seating, highly recommend

Carly T.

Yelp
This place is a MUST GO on our list of things to do in Maui. We always start and end our vacation with a breakfast from Sunrise Cafe. The LOCOMOCO is the best one on the island! Family run and everyone greets you with a smile. We are so appreciative of the service and delicious food they provide us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
google avatar

Ren N.

Yelp
A small mom and pop operated cafe situated right in the heart of historic Lahaina area. Parking around the place gives you 3 hours free, shouldn't be a problem finding a spot. This little cafe offers a sort of ocean view minus the backyard. They serve mixed Hawaiian and American breakfast brunch items. My favorite go to is the 2 eggs and Portuguese sausage. Recommend their fruit bowl, comes in half a pineapple amount. We got coffee around up the street at Maui grown for only $1.65 a cup and they didn't give us any issue for bringing it in to drink. Bathroom needs key and is in the backyard. Nice and clean
google avatar

Julie E.

Yelp
Authentic local cafe. You enter through he front porch of a house and wind back to back patio which has a covered enclosure. Would be better if we could eat outside on the water. Cute chick poking around. Pineapple boat was best dish we enjoyed. Fruit was freshly cut and served in half a pineapple. Loco moco was good, but didn't beat Sixty Two Marcket we had yesterday. Eggs were cooked perfectly and gravy was tasty. Beef was a bit bland.
google avatar

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place based on reviews. Boyfriend and I were pretty disappointed in the quality of food. The people here are kind and friendly, however - the food was just ok (and a bit pricy for what it was). I ordered a breakfast burrito - it was lots of rice and wrap, so I couldn't taste any filling. Honestly the rice and wrap were so overwhelming I couldn't even taste what was inside of the burrito. Boyfriend got the pancakes w macadamia nuts and bananas, which weren't anything special. He expected the pancakes to also be filled with nuts but they were just plain pancakes with a topping. Then, it was cash only -- which is a little weird but not really worth it in terms of the hassle it is if you're not a cash carrier. Wouldn't come back here - plenty of better places for breakfast.

Yelp
Food was ono. Never seen alfalfa on a BLT before. We loves the service and attention. Feels like old school mom and pop kind of place. The pineapple juice was good too. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Love it!
