Very nice neighborhood breakfast place. Cute atmosphere, staff are super nice and attentive. There's a family atmosphere, staff knows almost everyone who comes through the door. Food could be better to be honest. Eggs and potatoes are good but gravy isn't that great with the biscuits. Prices are alright, they the specials but nothing enticing enough to feel special. Its good for a social breakfast place and warm atmosphere but the food is mediocre.

Google
Very small place, with limited seating. The waitress was nice but had poor listening skills, she kept forgetting things, which was annoying. The food was as good as it used to be.

This place was awesome a couple yrs ago when I was visiting. Looking forward to it again this fall.

Google
This was my 1st. Experience, they seem to get the same crowd. I don't know, but people were coming in. When you sit down, a young gentleman takes your drink order, which is great. Then the waitress comes, I don't remember her saying her, name but that's OK after my experience. I only ordered 2 eggs over well potatoes and toast. My breakfast was cold, not warm, cold. 2 of our plates went back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, we get our food. They either used a microwave or mixed the potatoes with warm potatoes .You could tell the potatoes were warm in some places still cold in other places. The eggs were like rubber and crispy around the edges. The coffee was hot and weak. I can say it was clean, but the sets are patched up with tape, which is uncomfortable to sit in. Overall, it was the worst food I had experienced. Not one of us finished our plate. They need to fix the place and get a new cook. They also need lighting it's too dark. I guess it's to cover the dirt. I don't know, just guessing .

Google
I love Sunrise Cafe because of the atmosphere 4real 4real! It's old-fashioned, the staff is friendly, the food is delicious and it's simply a small and cute restaurant. It's clean 👌🏾

Yelp
Sometimes a hole in the wall can be an incredible find. This place was not that. There was almost no one there, the staff was more interesting in my son, but not of the adults and the food was limited with high prices. I asked for potatoes, scrambled egg and wheat toast. I got white and everything, but with bacon, so I had to pay extra. My skillet also had meat added to it and that was meatless. Some bacon was cooked better than others. I also received a large orange juice. The waitress didn't look me in the eye once, but looked at everyone else at our table. The food had zero seasoning and was a bit cold. The restaurant was also quite chilly inside. All and all I don't think I've ever been this disappointed at a breakfast place. I don't see myself returning again and do not recommend this establishment.

Yelp
After starting a new job on the north side of SB, I needed a new go to place for a quick lunch. I tried Sunrise for a cheeseburger and fries. Was quickly seated and served my iced tea. Service was personable, and staff checked on me often. But the burger was just ok. Nothing special. I will go back and try breakfast which, to be fair, may be more of their specialty.

Yelp
Neighborhood Diner small but cozy. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing and the service is great... It's wise to get there before 1:00 because they close at 2:00 and parking is limited. A great place for a family brunch and the prices are reasonable. This is my favorite breakfast restaurant because they serve pork steaks. They are tender and tasty.

Yelp
The food is good but their beverages are expensive. The service is doable. Although not attentive they are friendly. Although not always informed they are helpful. My daughter really likes this place so we'll come back intermittently.

Yelp
The service was quick. The employees were friendly and informative. The were polite even when we added to our order. Good job Keep up the good work

Yelp
I ordered the four deuce, biscuits/gravy and a sausage, egg and cheese croissant. This is by far the worst breakfast I have ever had in my life. The potatoes, terrible consistency no flavor at all. Actually, there was no flavor on all items purchased. and the bacon was floppy. I'm not sure who would want floppy bacon, or lumpy grits but I thought it was a common pleasantry to have crisp bacon and smooth grits. Long story short this food is only good if you have no taste buds or if you're desperate.

Yelp
This little Gem is a must let me tell you if all the other places have a long wait not to worry you will be able to get a set here. And their specials for the day are so good we've been here 3 or 4 times while visiting, and its relaxed not loud really a nice spot to chat over breakfast and catch-up. Not to mention they have a lot of parking and I've been trying their specials the last 2 times that we stopped in. Great service and very attentive staff

Yelp
Just found my new favorite breakfast & lunch spot in South Bend. Small place but staff is incredibly friendly and treats everyone like a VIP. The food is incredible! Sausage omelette was stuffed with savory sausage and velvety cheese. My coffee cup never was less than half full before someone topped it off. A little off the beaten path but totally worth it!

Jim F.

Yelp
My coworker has been talking about the asparagus and swiss omelet for months. We finally ordered take out this morning. I have to say this was the best breakfast I have had in a long time! I highly recommend you try the asparagus and swiss omelet. One recommendation, order extra swiss.

Yelp
Cute little diner-type place right on the edge of a cheesy area in South Bend. Inside the place was spotless...everything clean and neat, also freshly painted. There were a bunch of booths and tables throughout the room. Smallish kitchen, but they seem to get the food out. Service was spot on and the staff was friendly and efficient. I had the sausage and egg sandwich...it was very good. Nice peppery sausage and a lot of it with the egg on toast of your choice...I would get this again. My table mates had eggs and pancakes and the pancakes were leathery...just thin and tough. I think the batter for the pancakes had been out awhile and it had lost all its puff...no rising at all. Other than that it was a good decent place for a breakfast. Prices were very reasonable for all the items.

Yelp
My husband and I frequent Sunrise for breakfast. It is definitely a slice of all that's good about South Bend. You have people from the neighborhood, police officers on their break, the Mayor having a meeting, or families stopping by after church. I recommend the Egg Mess! Love it! It's homey and friendly. We'll be there next week and the week after and the week after that...as long as its around! Nicely done ladies!!!

Yelp
I really had my heart set on loving this place, it ehh... It was cute and clean inside. The staff was actually phenomenal. But the food was very meh. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs over easy. For the price I was puzzled as to why potatoes weren't added. But they are extra for breakfast. (what?) The gravy was runny and lacked flavor and I know this is petty but my toast wasn't cut in half. It was awkward since I wanted the toast to dip in my eggs. The steak itself was very thin and I could cut it easily with my fork.

Yelp
April 15, 2020 my aunt and uncle bought a cheeseburger and fries for me as I was sitting on my bus doing e-learning it was also my birthday that was the best cheeseburger and the best fries I think I've ever had in my life if you want a good place to go and eat go to sunrise Café absolutely fabulous

Yelp
I was super pumped to find a highly-rated breakfast spot in South Bend, since my daughter will be attending ND in the fall. Three of us ate here on a recent Monday morning for breakfast. First the good: The place is very quaint. There are numerous booths and tables. The menu is displayed on a rolled-up paper dispenser tacked on the wall. We were served with mismatched cups/plates and utensils straight out of a tag sale. The servers were very sweet and attentive. The food was hot. Next the not so good: My hot tea was served in a mug that was chipped on the top. The selection of teas was also different-no English Breakfast or Lipton here. There was only a selection of off-brand decaf varieties. My daughter and I had the eggs and pancakes. The eggs were good; the pancakes were dry and way overdone. My husband had the breakfast sandwich. Rated it OK, but the sausage was super peppery. Might I try it again? Maybe for lunch.

Yelp
I was stranded in South Bend thanks to the blizzard of 2011, and a friend of mine who works for the local newspaper suggested that I go here if I want a great breakfast. Therefore, after digging out my car I drove up Lincoln way to this little cafe, which is open only until 3 pm. I went in and this is a diner for sure. There were two cops at the small counter (I suggest the counter if you want fast service) shooting the breeze with the owner of the place, a tall older blonde woman with a forceful personality. I think the best things on the menu are the various "messy" eggs they serve which are served like skillets served on a plate. She is good on the coffee, soda, and the food was amazing. Fresh, old fashioned (this is not gourmet by any stretch) diner food! What was odd, funny was that some of the other customers are truly a mix of rich and poor and a very diverse group. There was an argument between two tables, and the owner just looked and shook her head as she got me a refill. I love these real diners because you get all sorts of people stopping in. The menu also included typical diner lunch items. Yummy!

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast while in South Bend. Great staff and great for large groups.

Yelp
Great local owned restaurant. The quantity and quality you get for the price makes it a great spot for breakfast. A little local hang out friendly staff. The Sunrise cafe puts a smile on my face

Yelp
Service rates a 4 star, but food was a disappointment at 2 stars. Pancakes with warm syrup were the best of order items . Worst were the hash brown potatoes, very greasy and sour tasting. Biscuits and gravy were below average as the gravy was bland with almost no meat. Place was clean. Prices were a bit high for food quality and serving size, not what you would expect in a restaurant that relies on neighborhood business. Not one of those hidden gems you hope to find off the main roads, not worth a special trip.

Yelp
Had breakfast here Friday. $7.95 for a TWO egg omelet?!? The food was standard fare and the waitress nice and all, but the prices are outlandish, So the ex pres ate here once, big deal. Will not eat here again.Left hungry.

Yelp
Stopped in after checking out the other reviews here and we were not disappointed. The service was great! Our waitress kept our coffee cups full and hot. She was very friendly and attentive. We both ordered the breakfast burrito special. The burrito was great. Stuffed with sausage, eggs, cheese, tomato and onion... sour cream and salsa on the side. The hash browns were also perfect; served piping hot. I really recommend this place! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area!!

Yelp
Found this little gem on our way back from dropping off a rental car. The staff and patrons were extremely friendly and very prompt. The food was delicious and were we're surprised at how quickly it was delivered. We had the the Belgian waffle, veggie omelet and eggs sunny side up...hash browns were perfect, crispy without any being burnt. We'll be back!!

Yelp
Friendly local spot with excellent prices on classic breakfast food. Service was friendly and reasonably quick. Loved the diverse neighborhood feel. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Love this little home town spot. Lots of locals stopping to chat and grab a bite to eat. The food is good and the service is friendly.

Yelp
This little hole in the wall diner was pretty decent. It's hard to find somewhere around here that knows how to make an omelet, but these guys do! They've got all the favorites my grandma used to make including Chip Beef Gravy on Toast. You get what you pay for: breakfasts weren't more than 7 or 8 dollars, and for that price the food and atmosphere was perfect. My favorite part about this little cafe was how they don't use "cookie cutter" coffee mugs; every single mug in this place was unique :)

Yelp
Great mom and pop type of establishment. Fresh breakfast food. I used to go there regularly and, after going to the chain places, returned just to realize how much better is this place than the chain breakfast restaurants. I highly recommend breakfast ham and the blueberry pancakes. The owner herself makes sure that all of her customers are satisfied. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
I worked in South Bend for a few months (I'm from Chicago Suburbs) and found this place by accident. Great little greasy spoon kind of place. Prices were very good and myself and the guys i was working with quickly got addicted to their chipped beef on toast and navy bean soup. The staff is great and I was supprised by the shear diversity of customers ranging from "suits" to cops, to folks obviously down on their luck. Everyone seemed to get along very well with many converstaions spilling from one table to others. The only gripe is they do close early, so get your lunch in around 12 or 1PM. I highly recommend venturing away from the college and checking this place out. Yelp-On, -Dan

Yelp
Great breakfast place! It's got quite a following with the neighborhood as well as the South Bend Police. (it's gotta be good, right??) Their omelettes are terrific. Even at their busiest the service is great.

Yelp
Decent food. Your average breakfast/lunch Small little cozy spot

Yelp
Nice neighborhood cafe. Good food, good service. Prepared great every time. I like the fact that they have 2 egg omelets...seems like the perfect portion.

Rachel C.

Yelp
We love it here. The quaint family feel not to mention the beautiful array of diversity that you come across while dining is awesome! The food and service is always great. They are consistent in what they deliver with both.

Yelp
This place is amazing. 1/2 and 1/2 biscuits and gravy is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
