I was stranded in South Bend thanks to the blizzard of 2011, and a friend of mine who works for the local newspaper suggested that I go here if I want a great breakfast. Therefore, after digging out my car I drove up Lincoln way to this little cafe, which is open only until 3 pm.
I went in and this is a diner for sure. There were two cops at the small counter (I suggest the counter if you want fast service) shooting the breeze with the owner of the place, a tall older blonde woman with a forceful personality.
I think the best things on the menu are the various "messy" eggs they serve which are served like skillets served on a plate. She is good on the coffee, soda, and the food was amazing. Fresh, old fashioned (this is not gourmet by any stretch) diner food!
What was odd, funny was that some of the other customers are truly a mix of rich and poor and a very diverse group. There was an argument between two tables, and the owner just looked and shook her head as she got me a refill. I love these real diners because you get all sorts of people stopping in.
The menu also included typical diner lunch items.
Yummy!
