A strange building perched on the side of a gorge above a stunning river. The hotel itself has a funny quirky Faulty Towers feeling about it initially, but grows on you with its charm. The twin Japanese style room with sitting room is v.nice, even if a little rough around the edges. The Onsen facilities are great with excellent view of the forest. Staff and the breakfast buffet were exceptional!!

the building and rooms are old, but okay (many stains on the carpet, felt not quite so clean). travelling through the iya valley, it‘s location was a good place to stop! the public onsen was clean and good with a nice view (tattoo was okay, as there were not many people). staff was very friendly&helpful. all in all it was fine - we had a special deal, if we would have paid the regular room price, I would have felt ripped off😅

The place is ok, but it did not meet our expectations and we don't think the detour was worth it. + The breakfast was delicious + Dinner was great for the most part, with some oversights I wrote below + Nice chopsticks for dinner + The room was comfortable + Cute, quite remote location + I believe there is a free shuttle bus service. We didn't use it, so i can't speak for it, but it is an important mention. - wasn't a huge fan of how thin the provided obi was - the sencha we had in our room was entirely unenjoyable, which is sad because the one from breakfast was quite good. - the sweetfish at dinner had a burned, bitter salty taste and texture to it. None of us could eat it. - also at dinner, we didn't enjoy an oversight: some of us at the table had roe, others didn't. - [entirely personal opinion] bath not included. It's not at all expensive at 150 jpy, but it feels like a ryanair kind of microtransaction. - [entirely personal opinion] speaking of bath: it was underwhelming We wouldn't make the detour to come here again, but there's nothing wrong with the place in this review that can't be rather easily "fixed"

For our three nights here, we stayed in a spacious traditional Japanese room. We had a great view of the valley. We had half-board, so breakfast and dinner were included. Dinner was very good and prepared knowing we were vegans. Breakfast was a buffet, and not many vegan choices. Staff was friendly and helpful. English is limited, but it wasn’t a problem using our Google Translate to communicate. Highly recommended.

It’s a generally nice hotel with nice food and service. The interia is slightly old but it’s still comfortable. We had a room with private onsen but still tried the public ones anyway. It water is very nice and moisturizing and it’s the same both in the public onsen and private one. The private one allows to start a day fresh in hot water so it’s still worth it despite being slightly pricy. The room is quite big as in Japan standard. Food is also nice. It’s a happy experience in general.

I visited the onsen as a day guest only, and it was the only onsen locally that stayed open to non-hotel guests in the evening. We visited at around 6:30 and the onsen was clean and quiet. It was 700yen to enter. I was also extremely grateful to be allowed in with a tattoo - my understanding is that tattoos are allowed as long as they do not cover the arms and back. The hotel itself was clean, spacious and accessible and the dinner smelled amazing!

We were extremely pleased with our stay as the manager Kadota San is very friendly , very kind and very helpful. He is very patient and attended to our multiple queries and has high EQ. A high standard hospitality manager indeed and always put in extra efforts going beyond his duties. He even recommended a delicious lunch place that’s also reasonably priced and beautiful for pix taking For all his kind assistance , we are very grateful to say the least. The place is very clean and was above expectation. Great view from my room. Good facilities , onsen and yummy breakfast and sumptuous dinner. Will stay here again if we visit iya valley again. Thank you for everything Kadota San!
