It’s an Older hotel. Lobby looks old and tired. Elevators are kind of scary. Rooms are older but clean. The first room we were given smelt like sewage and the AC was not working. They had put a portable AC unit the room. We asked to move rooms and we were showed to another room quickly. The AC kept the room very cool. View of the ocean, pool and downtown was beautiful. The room had a musty smell thu. Cleaners did a great job each day making up our room and kept it very clean. |Be aware of pushy salesman throughout the resort trying to convince you to attend a bfast buffet at dreams resort. Although we told her several times we were not interested she would continue asking. We tried to avoid her most of the trip. |Overall food was good. Definitely was tired of it by the end of the week thu. |Entertainment was pretty good. |Entertainment by the pool was great. Fun music and activities kept us all entertained. |Drinks were what you expect. Bring your own cup cause those reusable cups are nasty|Overall we had a great time. You get what you pay for. Only reason we stayed at this particular resort is cause we got a deal. If we had paid anymore I would have been disappointed. So keep that in mind.

Uncomfortable beds, smells like they mop with old dirt water. The food is not good. Who eats beef stew for breakfast?! All the food tasted old, meats were dry and tough, desserts had no taste. Impossible to get a chair by the pool, unless you get up at 6:30 and claim them. Handicap pool entrance is tiny, cold and dirty. Otherwise it's all ladder entrance and exit. I would not come back to this hotel.

||We just finished a week-long stay at this hotel. The reviews were mixed so we were sceptical of how it would be. ||We had an amazing time! While the hotel is older, it was very well kept. We stayed on the 6th floor and had a beautiful view of the ocean and the downtown area at night. The housekeeping staff were excellent. Our room was always spotless and well stocked with everything we needed. ||The Italian restaurant was the best eating option at the hotel. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. If you have kids that are younger than 8, you won't be able to eat at the restaurant. Ours was 7 but she was 8 for this trip!||The World Cafe was a buffet and had great options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also had a great view of the ocean if you got a good table.||They have a cafe open 24 hours for snacks or water.||I'd recommend bringing your own cups for your drinks at the bar. The cups at the bar are a bit small when filled with ice. If you have your own cups, it saves you a lot of trips.||The activity staff are great. They work hard to ensure everything is having a good time. The shows were always very enjoyable. ||The bell man were great from our arrival to our departure. Cristian, Angel, Oscar, and Josh did a great job. ||The only downside of our stay were the people trying to sell us on time shares within the hotel. We actively tried to avoid one lady who would always try  and sell us every day. ||I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff and the grounds were excellent!||

We just came back from this resort with a big group including all ages of children. The rooms aren’t exceptional, and the food isn’t either. If you go to a resort to stay in your room and want everything to work perfectly…don’t go here. However, the staff and location of this resort make up for all of that. The beach and pool are close together so the kids can easily go back and forth. The beach is beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you go to a resort to be outside and enjoy the warm weather…..this resort is great! We had a wonderful vacation and would for sure go back.

Overall great experience! You can see the building is a bit dated, but other than that everything was great. Very clean, the whole resort gets cleaned daily and the staff are very thorough. The food was good. Special activities like meals on the beach were really nice. Above all the staff was amazing, great service, super nice and made us feel part of a big family. I would go back!

We stayed here over the weekend for a wedding. The service was good and employees all very nice and helpful. The pool was nice and enjoyable. We also got a couples massage on the beach at a good price and was very enjoyable. The rooms are clean, my only critique there is the vanity counter was so small, they had little to no racks to handle towels on the dry and no luggage racks for your suitcases. The biggest downside to our stay was the food. The food was unbelievably disappointing. And with how important food is, I wouldn’t come stay here again. We tried every restaurant and were disappointed with every meal. Food just wasn’t cooked well but also seemed very low quality.

Overall a good experience. Our kiddo fell at the pool 3.5 hours into our vacation and required stitches at the hospital. The lifeguard, doctor and other staff at the pool did everything they could to calm the situation and were great to deal with. The rest of our vacation was great including the food and staff. We booked thinking our kids would LIVE in the kids area which surprisingly they did not. They did love the kid club and ability to eat whatever they wanted in the buffet (which was delicious). Downsides included: slow elevators (which they appear to be working on) and.. this is a parent talking so take with a grain of salt if you come without kids.. they post movies that will be playing on the schedule board only to play something else. My kids were upset that the movies they were expecting wasn’t played but overall minor hiccup. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will come again.

Yelp
Not the Hyatt experience we were expecting. Checked out early after a terrible experience at the resort. Every customer touchpoint was underwhelming and made us regret our purchase. Worth the read before you commit. List of issues below: 1. Check-in was pretty simple except they advertise they take AmEx, but they didn't. We had to use a different form of payment because they don't take AmEx. 2. We were swarmed by sweat bees at the buffet breakfast because they didn't bus the tables and when they did they set the plates close to the guests. 3. There is no pool side food orders or delivery. All food must be eaten in the designated areas. This also wasn't advertised and should be. 4. The drinks were más o menos from every bar. Low level liquor is used in everything so don't expect any drink to be impressive. We moved onto beer because they couldn't mess that up. NOTE: ALEX WAS A GREAT SERVER AND TOOK CARE OF US & MALA WAS AMAZING AT ACTIVITIES. 5 stars to both. 5. The snack truck was NOT GOOD. Do not waste your time. 6. The room was the nicest part (like 2 stars instead of 1), but accessing the rooms is work because there's only 1 set of elevators and when the pool closes the lines get WAY LONG. An employee ended up ushering us into a backroom to use a service elevator. Very helpful, but also felt very sketchy. 7. We had dinner at the Italian place. We waited 45 mins at 9pm and it was muy caliente with no air conditioning in the restaurant. The service was okay, but the food was worse than Olive Garden. Salad-ok. Pizza-BAD. Entree-BAD. Left before dessert because it was that bad. 8. The silent disco was a fun activity, but held in the lobby with all the other evening activities so it was crowded with people not participating and it was a major traffic jam for the Mexican restaurant. Ultimately, we decided to check out early and find other accommodations. I recommend you do the same. Everything that was included in this all-inclusive resort was not good. Go somewhere else.

Yelp
Jonathan checked us in. He did not acknowledge our Hyatt status. He assigned us to room 1132 in the condo building "Condomar" where the Airbnb's and VRBO's are. It wasn't hard to figure out since our neighbor's rooms had personalized door numbers and welcome tiles ("George's Place") with their own different locks and entry systems. The bellman confirmed that the renovated rooms are in the hotel building, closer to the pool, lobby and restaurants and opposite the condo building. The room is huge with a king bed + couch and 2 chairs in the balcony with a view of the beach. The mini fridge is filled with beer, soda and bottled water. There are 2 robes, a safe, 2 sinks and a hair dryer. The shower pressure is great. After dinner at DaMario's and a quick visit to the Karaoke area, we returned to the room where we immediately noticed the air conditioner wasn't working and mosquitoes were present. We called front desk to complain about the warm air. A technician came up to confirm there is no freon and no cold air. We also had the tech touch the bed to confirm that there is sand under the pillow. Sand!!!! On the top sheet.under.the.pillow! We were moved to room 1142 on the same floor, same layout, same bad AC quality but this time we were given an electric fan. The front door is a security nightmare as there is an alarming gap between the door casing and the actual door when closed (picture is attached below). Crowbar alert? And free entry for insects & mosquitoes! The 4 restaurants are very busy and the buffet line is loooong. This property sells day passes for $85/day per adult and $50 per kid. Hmmm this could maybe explain why it's so crowded and difficult to find pool chairs and good service? The location is good: it is 10 mins from the airport, 5 mins to the marina and 20 mins to Zona Romantica. It is next to La Isla mall and there are restaurants right outside the main gate. The only employee who stood out was Alessandra in the concierge desk who gave me good information on the nearest massage/spa and was cheerful and friendly. The stay wasn't a complete waste because it helped me fill my Hyatt bingo card. Will I return? Definitely not. I don't see us recommending this property to any of our friends either. Honestly I really can't believe this is operating under the Hyatt flag (insert shrug emoji here).

Yelp
There was just been problem after problem since check-in. After complaining multiple times about the patio door not properly locking on a first floor room, someone from the security staff broke into my room while I was asleep in the bed on 5/20/24 @ approximately 2:55am. I've been given the run around by the staff and the Hyatt. I woke up to find one of the security guards standing on the side of bed going through my personal belongings. When I sat up he ran out of the sliding door. I believe this was set up by the bartender at the bar by the tiki taco restaurant. I had a margarita and a couple of shots of tequila and suddenly felt really sick. I believe I was drugged. Which would explain why this person felt comfortable coming to my room while I was in it. I'm so scared thinking about what could've taken place if I wouldn't have woken up Or if my children had been taken or effected by this person. I had to ask the staff multiple times to call the police before they were called. I was moved to a different room but this room is in terrible shape. Why would they move me to a room where the door has been kicked in? After experiencing this trauma, the hotel has refused to accommodate me by putting me at another hotel or paying for my early departure even though I was violated by one of the staff members. I need to be contacted to get this rectified. I've shown them more than enough grace before going public.

Yelp
The only reason I would give this hotel a star is because my kids enjoyed the kids club. The food is terrible, the shower flooded the bathroom, the drinks were gross. I saw multiple hairs in the food at the buffet and we ended up going to a store to buy our own alcohol. The sun club is a joke! Same alcohol as the rest of the hotel. I was double charged at the front desk and they refused to pay me back. We should have checked out immediately. We entrusted our family vacation to the Hyatt and are so disappointed. This hotel is not up to Hyatt standards and they shouldn't bait and switch their customers. We paid Hyatt prices for a motel 6 quality hotel. Actually worse than that. I repeat DO NOT STAY HERE! I am a Hyatt member and this is the worse vacation experience I have ever had.

Yelp
Nice hotel, very friendly staff, food is okay, however, my biggest complaint is the pool situation. There are signs around that state that you are not allowed to reserve spots however that is exactly what happened. People come down at 7am, drop off towels and the don't return until 10-11. They go back to their rooms or eat at the restaurants, while there are people who actually want to enjoy the pool and SIT outside! Suggestion: 1) actually have security come around and remove items like the sign says. 2) have a $20 towel charge. Folks are less likely to leave something behind if they will have to pay for it if it gets stolen. 3) have staff remind people when they pick up their towels that spots can't be reserved. I'll be back to PV but will definitely try a different spot. PV is beautiful, but rich and diverse in culture and a beautiful place to visit.

Yelp
We came for a Bachelorette party - 14 girls so in general, the expectation was to just chill and have fun. The 1 star is for our housekeeper - she was absolutely fantastic and hooked it up with the waterbottles. Other than that, let's begin the list of wtfs... - the room was NOT clean upon arrival. Meaning, the sheets were stained, there were hairballs all over the floor, and legit a thick layer of dust on the table tops. We lysol wiped everything and called housekeeping to ask for a change of sheets. There after, everything was great. Our housekeeper was amazing and I did feel like she did a great job the remainder of our stay. - everything is old and falling apart. Drawers are not flush, table stops are stained from yrs of use, and the scent of old/musk is everywhere - Tiki Taco (the restaurant) did not serve tacos once during our 5 day stay - overall, food was not good...I've been to all inclusives in Mexico before and expected mid ish food but this place kinda sucked. No tacos, no guac, and just meh. The best food at the resort was the risotto at the Italian place - stingy with waterbottles. But why? Its all inclusive and waters pretty important. Some people don't feel comfortable drinking tap water - don't judge them. Rude on rude. Alcohol - it's watered down but that's expected at all inclusives. The rooms on the Condo side are MUCH better. I'd never come back to this hotel but if you plan to, I'd recommend upgrading to the condo side.

Yelp
ATTENTION TOMAS AND VICKY!!!!!! ONE OF THE WORST HOTELS I'VE EVER STAYED AT. I normally don't complain nor write bad reviews, but this trip was definitely not one for the books. Our trip started horrible from the start when we were lied to from both Tomas and Vicky. Tomas tried to up sale us on paying an extra fee to receive top notch Liquor, but when we had asked if they had Don Julio 70, Tomas said YES!!!!! So, we fell for it and upgraded. Long story short it was a lie. We brought it up to his attention, but he seemed not to care and said we could not get our money back. He then mentioned if we went to see a timeshare for 90 mins we would receive a late check out and then would receive multiple upgrades for both parties which were in separate rooms. Vicky was the one to check us in prior to go to this timeshare, We had mentioned that Tomas would accommodate both rooms for the upgrades. I assume you already know where this is leading to. We were lied to again and only received the upgrade on only one room. We were very frustrated and tried to bring it up to Tomas and vickys attention again. Tomas pretty much laughed in my face when I began to explain what happened. I called him a liar and that he ruined my whole morning. He again didn't care or did anything about the whole situation. I felt like we had multiple complaints the minute we checked in, Which I don't expect for everything to go well. It was the fact that the employees didn't do anything about the situation or have any type of good customer service. They definitely need more training or hire better staff. I WILL NOT BE COMING BACK TO THIS RESORT AT ALL. DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE STAYING AT THIS HOTEL. YOU WILL DEFINITELY REGRET IT.

Yelp
We LOVED Sunscape PV. It was a great mid-price resort. PV is very safe!!! We stayed in late Feb 2023. The room was very clean and well-appointed. We liked the Junior Suite. Having the couch area was a nice spot to relax. The ocean view off the balcony was amazing. We even saw whales off the balcony! The restaurants were great for a family with lots of picky requests. We had a 10 yo who only likes bland food (pasta, quesadilla, hot dogs) or jello + a gluten-free and dairy-free mom + a dad with a unique list of likes/dislikes. At the Buffet, there was always something for all of us to eat at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The local dishes on the buffet were always the BEST. The Tiki Taco was a fun taco buffet - it was solidly okay. We didn't try any of the other restaurants. The all-inclusive alcohol was pretty typical all-inclusive cocktails - aka watered down. Not very much booze. Ordering Palomas is the trick to getting lots of alcohol. The pool was fine for our 10 yo but pretty boring for adults. Entry into the pool was difficult. I wish they had stairs or a zero-entry area for old knees. The beach was BEAUTIFUL! Lots of loungers and palapas for shade. The waves were very calm at the shore. Local families were always at the beach, so it must have been a local favorite. The entertainment at 9 pm every night was good, not great. If you need that type of thing, it was a good value. We usually wanted to sleep by 8:30 every night, lol. Getting taxis and using uber was very easy from the resort!

Yelp
We like the hotel so far, just for the few things we noticed after walking into our room for the first time. Staff is very friendly, very helpful, very humble. I usually do not have very high expectations at any hotel, does not matter how many stars they have. So I not like too disappointed with this one. The room view is very beautiful, we see the pools and the beach right in front of us. The room is nice, except for the few things I mentioned on the pictures! The food so far has been amazing! The cooks, servers, and everyone have been awesome to be honest. There are a few restaurants on the hotel, they all served very good food. So far our experience has been ok. We don't really spend much time at the hotel anyways. Just for food and sleep really! Some restaurants do have a dress code, it varies from casual to elegant-casual (Whatever that means lol) We used a company called Amstar, which the company that picked us up at the airport and the one we are doing tours and activities with. The hotel tours and activities are a bit more expensive, for the same adventure!

Yelp
Do not stay at this resort. The occasion for our stay- 60th birthday party. Multiple families untied for the occasion at this resort. I typically do not write negative reviews; over my lifespan I have written only one, other than this one, however feel this is warranted. The room: The couch was malodorous with very obvious and large staining. Staff assured it would be cleaned, however it was not. Other family members complained of their sink being clogged upon arrival; 2 different booked rooms, which were later unclogged once the complaint was made. Another family member was switched to a completely different room due to their original room being dirty altogether The primary and collective concern was the food served. The food was horrible. This sounds like a dramatic statement but I assure you it is not. I worried I would never look at food the same after this experience. I had to be very mindful and selective of what I chose to consume. The food was poor quality in all aspects, inclusive of taste. I, along with others family members, ate the minimum amount necessary to 'get by' each day. We discussed leaving and staying in a different Resort yet stayed in the resort only because we would have to completely uproot families to another hotel, as family from Mexico traveled to unite with us. Further, half of the restaurants were closed during our stay, appearing due to construction, and the on the last night of our stay, the main restaurant flooded. This flood resulted in soaked shoes, as one could not enter without shoes being soaked, as well as water leaking from the roof onto the prepared food. Beverages: I did not order any alcoholic beverages and consequently requested bottle waters. Staff restricted bottled waters provided to me, and encouraged me to refill my empty bottle at the water dispenser. This happened on multiple occasions. After our stay, I supplied my review to the resort. My complaint was escalated and this was the summary "Please note that even though we are run by Hyat, it is an independent property, and our compensations are on site and we are sorry we weren't able to change your perspective during your stay."

Yelp
Sunscape is a very pretty and family friendly resort along the beach! I felt safe during my stay there since there was a security guard at the entrance and you'll need to give them a piece of paper when you check out as well- I accidentally threw mine away and had to go back and get it LOL. There was a pretty good variety of food options and I tried pretty much every restaurant that was on the property. We had tacos, burgers, nachos, pastries, Italian food, and the breakfast buffet. The staff was very friendly to us. We were treated like VIP's and got a call in our room every day to check up on us. There were a few stores to shop at as well, but they closed pretty early (except for the pharmacy). I enjoyed my stay here, however, it would be nice if they had better quality food and drinks at all of the restaurants and that complimentary WIFI would be provided in our rooms.

Michelle N.

Yelp
When we first arrived we were disappointed, we felt that the pictures shown were way nicer than what it actually was. The resort needs work done on it and needs updates. Cons- our shower went from cold to hot constantly. Our room was not ready at check in. We constantly got harassed to go look at their other properties, but kept getting told it was not a timeshare. There is no pool side service and were not allowed to eat by the pool. The buffet was basic. We wanted water sent up to our room but were told we needed to go buy some. That is not all inclusive. We were excited about the water slides but they were only for ages 12 and under. There were pictures of a beautiful Veranda bar, which did not exist at all. Pictures also showed pool tables and a fun activity room, also did not exist. We were under the assumption we had a full time mini bar in our room but they filled it the first day and then wanted to charge around $45 a day to continue to have it filled. Again not all inclusive as stated Pros- walking distance to the marina for excursions. There were small shops attached to the resort so you could purchase snacks, get cheaper massages, and there was a pharmacy. Swim up bar was awesome but there were kids everywhere sitting in bar seats making it hard to get drinks. They did have a fun magic show at night and offered other entertainment nightly. The Italian and Tiki Taco restaurant were the best food there. Do those and skip the buffet at night. Staff was very friendly. Irving was our favorite bartender, very personable and likeable.

Yelp
I want to start with the only positive thing about this review, and that is our poolside server ALEX and MALA in entertainment WERE GREAT!!!! I WOULD GIVE THOSE TWO A 10 STAR REVIEW IF I COULD. Beware and DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!! A friend stayed at this so called "Resort" so we decided to get a day pass to enjoy some time together. Decided to go with the 9am -1am day pass for $92 to get our money's worth. We meet him there on the day he checked in, check in was easy other than they did not take AMEX. The website states that AMEX is accepted but not that day. The food was horrible. The best thing that I had for breakfast were thr beans and an omelet. Everything else was NOT good at all. For lunch we tried the food truck and that food was a joke. Inmates in prison get better food than that. We could not even eat that food. Since we were still hungry we went to the buffet. Not any better than breakfast. Again the beans were the best thing on my plate. I had a salad first but the ranch was disgusting. Also please note that there is NO POOLSIDE FOOD SERVICE. Although we did see some kids and families bring food into the pool from the buffet. The drinks were not very good, and made with cheap liquor. For dinner we went to the Italian restaurant because that was the only restaurant available. We got seated by a lady that was not very nice. It was SO hot in the restaurant! After 15 minutes of sitting there is had to ask for water because nobody had come to check on us. The food was not great. I would take Olive Garden over this place. The rooms are nice, but there is only one elevator for all the guests to get to their rooms. All the events are held in the lobby and it gets very crowded, and kids running around. My friend decided to check out early from his stay and going us in our Airbnb because this "Resort" is not it. I am definitely glad I only wasted $92 for the day pass.

Yelp
Sunscape is a relatively affordable all-inclusive resort, especially compared to other all-inclusive resorts in the area. If are simply looking for a place to stay and relax after days spent playing tourist and exploring the city, then Sunscape is more than adequate to meet your needs. If however, you are looking for an all-inclusive resort and the point of your vacation is to lounge, eat, and be pampered, then for the best experience you should probably look elsewhere. I have never stayed at a resort before Sunscape so I don't really have a point of reference for what makes a good resort experience. But generally I frown on the idea of all-inclusive resorts because I can't imagine paying the nightly resort fees and because I feel that the entire point of traveling to another country is to experience the place, not to be in a resort bubble. Sure, you can leave the resort to explore, but if you've paid up front for every meal as part of the inclusive stay, why waste money eating outside the resort? And yet, we know resort food cannot really approximate the local culture of a place. Despite my general feeling about resorts, I booked a stay at Sunscape anyway because I found cheap tickets to Puerto Vallarta that I couldn't pass up and needed a place to stay. I was pursuing status with Hyatt so I looked at their properties first, and was surprised to find nightly rates at Sunscape much lower than the standard Hyatt resort. There was also a deal for extra Hyatt points so I decided to go for it, despite finding even cheaper rates at more highly rated hotels in the area. Before my stay, online reviews of Sunscape caused apprehension for me as I saw a lot of complaints about how old this place is and how poor the food is, with most reviews saying that at least, the staff here is really great. After spending three nights there, my sense is that the rooms and facilities are adequate to nice. Everything serves its function. I got upgraded to a room with an ocean view and that view was all I needed. My room had AC, a living room area, TV, and standing shower. Bed was not the best I've had but nothing to complain about. Folks who complain about this place being old are probably expecting too much. The things that annoyed me about my stay here include: 1) the silly and unnecessary rules Guest must sign a contract promising not to use drugs while on property. I agree that guest should not use drugs. But I'm a bit put off by the creation of a contractual obligation. It's a bit paternalistic. Also, you have to sign and agree to return your room key. This is minor, but the real rule that bugged me was the dress code for dining at various spots. At the Italian restaurant (arguably the best dining option here), men have to wear collared shirts and closed-toe shoes for entry. This is not made explicitly clear when you book your stay, or even when you go down to eat. The dress code is displayed at the entrance. It's annoying an unnecessary as what others are wearing does not impact your own dining experience. Also, when you check out they give you two tickets to hand to the valet and the guard at the gate. What this does is unclear to me, but if you're the sort of person who just leaves the hotel I wonder if there would be consequences for not turning in your tickets. 2) the fact that you have to pay for internet; I got my internet for free because of my status with Hyatt. But it's pretty shameless to advertise yourself as an all-inclusive and then charge for internet. 3) the variedness of food quality across dining options; Food here ranges from meh to delicious. And the delicious spots are only open for dinner service *some nights* of the week. 4) the hours dining facilities were open; As mentioned above, the spots with the good food are only open at night and even then, only on some nights. This means for the rest of your meals -- breakfast and lunch -- you're limited to the meh options. But what really annoyed me is that the hours food is offered makes it so that if you have plans off-resort for the day, you're basically getting the worst food options. Specifically, the World Cafe (buffet) is the default dining option with breakfast service from 7a to noon. At noon the Barefoot Grill Taco Truck opens serving meh (but fine) burgers and hot dogs. The Tiki Taco and World Cafe spot doesn't (re)open until 1:30p. So if you want to eat anything before 1:30p, you're really limited. Dinner service begins at 6p. 5) the unwillingness of staff to acknowledge their mistake in my case. I would have probably given Sunscape three stars overall up until my checkout experience. I had to wait (in the expedited Hyatt members line) over 20 minutes TO CHECK OUT. I pointed out to them that THEY OVERCHARGED ME by billing me in pesos instead of dollars at a higher rate of exchange than market rate. I asked they refund the amount in excess of my agreed rate at booking. They refused.

Yelp
If I could give this place a ZERO I would! I have never experienced such a horrible experience while traveling. None of my 25 family members, which all were staying at the same hotel, had anything positive to say about the Hotel. I don't usually write reviews but I want to warn people about this hotel and their service. The day of check in I was asked to pay the difference of a child to an adult, which I agreed to pay and was quoted a price of additional $50/night . I paid and we all went on to start the vacation. I didn't receive a receipt and it turns out I was charged more than triple what was agreed and it came out to a total of $623.23. The Hotel doesn't want to fix it because I don't have "written proof" even though they didn't provide a receipt. Unfortunately this was just the start of it. My room was covered in an intense smell of mold, from the bed sheets and pillows to the towels in the bathroom. The sink in the bathroom was leaking, shower knob was broken, and the bathroom had a broken water pipe. When I discussed the issue with front desk they only provided the room with an air purifier and it did nothing to fix the issues. They didn't even offer to change rooms for a better stay. Customer Service was Horrible!!! Front desk manager was rude and House keeping never restocked toilet paper, towels or changed the bed sheets. Most of the towels were used to clean up the floor because it was constantly wet from the broken pipe leaking in the bathroom. My mom, who is disabled almost slipped ser eral times because of these issues. Another thing I would stay away from is the food, the majority of the food in the buffet had flies on it, which makes it difficult to have an appetite. Please think twice about going to this Hotel, there are much better choices in the same area.

Yelp
Been there 6 times and each time I personally had an amazing time. Service was amazing great drinks food there is something for everyone and price is great so you can still venture out. I like it so much that going again next Feb can't wait

Yelp
So where do I begin... My wife and I have been traveling to Puerto Vallarta for over 10 years and have stayed at some amazing resorts, the Sunscape is not one of them. Let me first say the the service staff are very hard working and extremely polite and kind. The management and front desk is a different story. I always book through Expedia, just s safe way to go. The hotel reached out to me if I would like to upgrade to the "Sun Club". The price was decent $235 for the 5 days. So I did. When I checked in the front desk, I paid for the upgrade and that's that. However, I noticed he did not mention anything about what emenities we would receive for the upgrade. When I asked him he gave me a paper showing the "extra service" included. Tuesday through Friday we were denied water bottles, turn down service, mini bar service all the extras they promised and I paid for. We asked and all the front desk said was we did not "qualify". It wasn't until we confronted the front desk again, that they apologized for some how our account was "blocked". They did absolutely nothing to make it right. So I end the story as such. Make sure you really ask questions and cross all your "T's" with this place. First and last time I will be staying here...

Yelp
Outdated. Needs updating everywhere. Food is subpar even for an all inclusive resort. And, the gym is awful... people actually do want to exercise on vacation.

Yelp
This place is OLD!!! We checked in and after going through a Time Share presentation, which I FLATLY DECLINED, even though she kept trying to work my wife. I FINALLY SAID, "WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN WASTING OUR VACATION TIME!!!" We were finally told that even though this was an ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT, We had to pay $80 per person for the special New Years Eve dinner. I threw a fit, my wife whipped out her credit card. We only had the charge receipt for the $160. We finally got to our room. Where the door bell was missing. The shelf in the shower was broken, the door didn't close on its own, like good hotels do. We kept trying to fine out about this special dinner. No one knew anything. Finally we were told that we needed to buy a bottle of wine to get a table. What kind of Bu!!$hit is this. My wife bought a bottle and we were told to be there by 7pm. IT WAS 7:30 BEFORE ANYTHING THAT RESEMBLED FOOD!!! This was for a buffet!!! Every dining establishment there, with the exception of the Italian restaurant were all BUFFETS!!! NOTHING DIFFERENT THAN EVERY OTHER NIGHT!!! Since we arrived, I tried to get a bottle of wine every night and was told they didn't have any. Another crock of Sh!t. Stay away from this property!!! I have traveled around the work for over 40 years and never seen a hotel as BED AS THIS PLACE!!!

Yelp
Wow what a trash hotel/condo. The beach: goodness, only come to this beach if you want to risk being ran over by boats or if you want to be harassed by locals trying to sell rotten shrimp on a stick (yes I bought some and yes it made me violently I'll, and no I didn't drink the water). My husband was told he couldn't vape by the chairs we rented but the locals were smoking cigarettes and cigars and security didn't even stop to question them. We were then called names when we said "no thank you" every 60 seconds by multiple locals selling trinkets. Staff: The security are complete jerks... to put it nicely. We were harassed the entire time, every single day we were here. Pulled out of the pool, pulled off the beach multiple times telling us we didn't belong. We had all inclusive, we had the proper wristbands every time and we're still singled out. The security hovered over us no matter where we went. I'm pregnant and can't even drink but we still tried to comply and I still got all inclusive. The concierge were just as rude. Told us to walk around the entire mall and go to the public beach even though we had a room and the all inclusive day passes. We went to the front dest and finally a WONDERFUL woman started apologizing and told us we were okay and to ignore them, if they said anything else to come to her. So we sat at the pool and had 5+ security guards always 15 feet away from us. Rooms: Then the rooms. My gosh. They were horrible. Only some elevator buttons work, when coming down from the only the far right elevator worked. The rooms smells like horrible mold/mildew. Being pregnant this was a serious concern. There were pizza boxes hanging over windows in the main floor hallways to block the sun. Just complete trash. The staff (all but the wonderful front desk woman) were rude and not in the business for customer service. Will not return and will be sure to tell our friends NOT to come here as well. The ONLY reason this has a star is because of the incredible front desk workers, they were welcoming, polite, and really wanted to interact with guests and leave a positive impression. They need to be paid more, they're the only thing holding this junker together.

Yelp
We waited a very long time for our room.. very unorgannized.. old and outdated.. the food is mediocre but the waiting for the room was horrible.. we got there t 12 they told us our rooms past 5.. people were so mad they were fighting eachother... I've never had an experience like this..do not come here... After waiting for so long for our room, they tell us, there's a beautiful show at sunset come join us for diner.. so we go up to our rooms, finally, and get all dressed up only to go down to the beach to tell us all tables are reservealready, ok find, no biggy. But, as we walked away I hear a waiter say to person on the line, "hey give me 1000 pesos and I'll sit you down" umm he'll no so we started arguing and latter they said oh tables are for people that purchase a 1000 pesos bottle!! Really? Oh yeah, no wifi unless you pay, only two options 250 pesos for one devise for two days or 890 pesos for 2 devises five days..

Yelp
Stayed at this resort for a week during the month of July with my parents and kids who own timeshare here. Pros: -Good location next to nice mall and has own private beach -Gated access to hotel with security guards -swim up bar and all inclusive resort -nice diversity of activities like water aerobics, magic show and karaoke night -room was cleaned every day with nice towel figures left on bed -good variety of food in the all inclusive restaurant/buffet Cons: -no lifeguard was present in pool area. I only saw one once the whole week I was there. -Pool can be very crowded as it is the only pool in the resort and water in pool gets warm from heat. -it is hard to get a lounge chair unless you reserve one in the morning. There is a no reserve policy on Pool lounge chairs but it is not enforced. - the security guards that are female had no bedside manner whatsoever. They talk down to you in an irritable manner -the buffet restaurant by the Pool had long lines to eat at certain times and once inside you have to stand in lines for buffet which directions for where they start are not marked. -if you go to beach area be prepared to be haggled and bothered regularly by beach vendors Overall, this place is good for families but I would not come here with just my husband. It is a comfortable resort that I would consider returning back here with my kids

Yelp
My husband and I are writing to express our disappointment and frustration at the Sunscape Hotel Resort in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, which we stayed from Saturday July 22, 2023 thru Sunday July 30, 2023. We experienced a significant amount of issues during our stay that impacted our overall experience. First during our arrival due to a mishap in the hotel our room was changed, and the room that they upgraded us to had no air conditioning, so we had to move to another room. In that room the air conditioning unit barely worked, and the water was cold. Next the room that was next door to us ordered room service and the tray of leftover food was left outside their room door the whole week why we were there, causing all types of insects outside our door. Also there are 19 floors in the building that we stayed with three elevators which only one of them worked the whole time we were there, not only was there only one functioning elevator, but it was on the outside in the heat. Next to the pool, if my husband and I were not wearing water shoes there was no way we would have been able to get inside of the pool, due to the gravel your feet were touching at the bottom, and that ended our pool activity for the rest of the trip. Lastly, the food, although we were not expecting the best, but what resort does not at least serve bacon and sausage for breakfast. We were told by the staff that works the restaurant that they do not serve it because they now cater to Mexican Americans. This trip has cost us money that was not in our budget, not only did we have to spend money everyday on breakfast, lunch and dinner, we had to find a pool and entertainment outside the resort. We chose this resort , because of the stay we had back in 2017 with our son who is now deceased, he had such a good time there, and the staff was very accommodating to him because of his disability, so we decided to go back to honor him. We know things change with time, but we weren't expecting this on our trip. This makes me want to choose another agency or even find a travel agent to start booking my future trips through, because this was very unexceptable considering the price we paid in money and time.

Yelp
Loved the property, hated the nazi gestapo-esque security! We couldn't even walk out to the public beach without being run down by security like common criminals because we didn't have the VERY EXPENSIVE drink package Wrist band! Other than that we really enjoyed the stay, gorgeous views from the balcony, safe and easy parking, centered in the city for east access to most things north and south! If it wasn't for their cruel security measures I would definitely stay here again, but considering the fact that we met some other people here who wanted to hang out on the beach with us the last night but we were treated like criminals for attempting to spend time with them on the beach, I don't recommend this place off of that one thing alone.

Yelp
Hello, Please see the notes below on each reservation. I would like to state that this resort is very run down, the pool is literally falling apart and caused 6 of the 17 of us to get cuts on our feet! The temperature of the pool was so hot it was not enjoyable. The hotel's AC is an issue and does not work in most places of the hotel, the ceiling fans in some of the lounge areas do not work. Restaurants would close down (one of the biggest ones that holds the most people was closed 2 nights in a row, on a weekend! Not to mention they also would take your room service order on these days and never deliver them. This happened multiple times and they even tried to say that they called our rooms and that did not happen, they also never knocked on the door. I was ill one night in my room for hours and they tried to cancel my room service after it was placed. I called and they gave me the same excuses and it was very unprofessional and evident they were lying. Most of the staff is doing the best they can to keep people happy, but that can only go so far when the building needs so many repairs and updates. The room service staff is very questionable and clearly does not want to work. We would never return to this establishment until it has a significant overhaul on repairs, the ONLY reason people stay is a majority of the staff do try (servers at the pool and the pool bar, and Roger from UVC members VIP, entertainment staff) . This resort over booked our supposed rooms and tried to tell us they would upgrade one room for free. However, upon investigation, the rooms we booked based on their website was the "upgraded" room. I was told the day of check in that we could look to relocate us to another hotel but it would cost us for that and moving 17 people is absolutely insane! Below you will find some bullet points per room that had issues, and it was every single one of them! I could have taken my family and friends to another resort in another location for a cheaper price and never experienced this kind of disaster. Check in was at 3pm and none of the rooms were ready, we were not able to get any rooms until after 5pm. Please also note that if you look at their website and the description of our rooms, NONE of us were given the correct rooms! RESERVATION 1 - 1. Blood on all bedding when 1st checked in (I have pictures) 2. Dirty and run down (I have pictures 3. Drawers don't shut and just all scraped up 4. Water in the sink is slow to drain 5. AC is spotty at best 6. Musty mildew smell in the room and most rooms 7. Vent for AC full of dust and what looked like mold 8. Refrigerators kept things a bit cool but not cold. Can not handle more than 3 drinks without getting warmer 9. The Italian restaurant had horrible service, waiting 30 minutes between drinks, apps, and food. Then the waiter never came back after, and had to flag him down 2 times just to get desert 10. Shutting down the main restaurant in the busiest day of the week and no capacity to fill the rest of the guest needs 11. Cheap Caribbean vs Hotel Policies and losing out on credits, ended up being useless 12. Pool water temperatures are too hot and the tiles are all in need of repair 13. Not enough restaurant options on the grounds (Advertise Seaside and World Cafe as separate) there not. 14. Tiki Taco was miserably hot, keep the windows open or something no one wants to risk puking from heat just to eat. 15. My mother cut her foot open too! RESERVATION 2 - 1. Bedding had stains, new bedding came and it was stained as well 2. No mattress protector 3. Fridge did not work well and I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I ended up throwing out one pen full of insulin because it was spoiled once my ice pack no longer kept it cold, they looked at it and said it worked and left, also they never stocked it as stated unless we asked! 4. TV did not work most of the time, maintenance said they did not know what was wrong with it and left! 5. AC was horrible and we ended up purchasing fans for 3 of the rooms because it was so hot and moving rooms did nothing 6. Visible surface mold above the vent in the room 7. Rust and wear on the mirror in the bathroom ( I have pictures) 8. Mold (actually mold in the grout of each and every single shower in that building) also missing grout and sharp edges in showers (i have pictures) 9. The smell in our room of mold was horrible, and I ended up needing allergy medication the entire time due to this 10. 14. Tiki Taco was miserably hot, keep the windows open or something no one wants to risk puking from heat j

Yelp
This place is disgusting. Do not stay here. Very bad wifi. Dirty pool. Bad food. We had a "suite" with a couch that smelled like someone simultaneously barfed, peed, crapped and then decomposed on it. We had to put a less smelly blanket down to sit on it. Whole place is extremely loud with thin walls. Creepy shopping in the dungeon lower level. Scam culture galore with time share bs. Avoid at all costs!

Mia M.

Yelp
If I could give this resort a negative amount of stars I definitely would. First of, the water was extremely disgusting , the first day we arrived they said it be cleaned by the next day however being a family resort, and having kids who came to enjoy the pool, well makes it horrific. Also for being a family resort there are not real good options of food, we ate what was there but options are limited, also there is an Italian restaurant 8 years plus, for being a family restaurant well, they would not allow my daughter. After speaking to the person in charge of the restaurant he allowed only ONE pizza (I have 2 kids) at a different restaurant but nothing else, I have 2 kids and He even said I can only give you 1 pizza bc the other child is allowed to go into the Italian restaurant. So we came as a family to enjoy our family time and they expect us to go to the restaurant without my daughter... it would have been an easy solution to actually just accommodate my daughter with the actual pasta (she wanted pasta and not pizza but pizza is the only thing they allowed for us to eat at a different restaurant)... stay away!!! Save your self a headache and bad experience, we were supposed to stay 8 days, a tried to make the best of it and not worth it!!! I can say we had an amazing guy trying his best to help us out Roger Robles was amazing, he tried to help us out. Unfortunately he was not there when we had the incident I'm sure he would have gotten my daughter her pasta. At the end of the day we ended up ordering Uber eats and getting her pasta but come on...we expected way more from the resort, especially as a unlimited vacation member, unfortunately Dreams was not available. Please avoid this place. As a california state employe I will be sending a global network letter that sends a notice to all california employees to stay away from Sunscape Vallarta.

Yelp
My husband and I spent 2 weeks at the Sunscape Puerto Vallarta in April 2019. For a 3.5-4 star all-inclusive in PVR, this was exactly what we expected and have very few complaints. When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with a welcome cocktail and shown to the front desk for check-in. Check-in took less than 5 minutes and we headed to our room. We were on the 8th floor and were met at our door by the bellman with our luggage. We were thrilled with the beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony. Our room was fairly basic, but extremely clean. The bathroom was very nice, spotless and had plenty of towels and toiletries were included (replaced daily). The safe was in the bedroom closet and worked perfectly. The only real complaint about the room was that we would have liked more hangers in the closet, so hardly worth mentioning. There are several restaurants and bars on site and we tried them all. The buffet restaurant is fairly large and the buffet has plenty of selection. There are so many fresh fruits to choose from at breakfast and many different savoury choices, from Mexican dishes, to an omelette station, to smoothies and more. For lunch and dinner they also have many different options and theme nights every evening with different cuisines from all over the world. The view from the restaurant is breathtaking! A gorgeous ocean view!! Our only real complaint is that one night we got to our table with our buffet food and another couple had been seated there! This was quickly rectified with no other problems. Next to the buffet restaurant is the Seaside Grill. We expected there to be many seafood dishes on the menu, but there really weren't. The food here was hit and miss. We had a couple of really yummy dishes, but a couple of not so good ones. We found a couple of favourites and ordered those on the 3 or 4 occasions we went to this restaurant. It's also near the beach, so has a nice view although not as nice as the buffet restaurant. The Tiki Taco restaurant is Mexican-themed and we ate there twice. We had breakfast there one morning and dinner there one evening. I loved it, but my husband wasn't as big a fan, which is why we only went twice. No complaints though. The food was very tasty and servers friendly. The Barefoot Grill is right smack-dab in the middle of the pool, so you walk over a bridge to get to it. It's basically fries, nachos, wings and onion rings which is great to grab and go when you're hanging out by the pool. No complaints about the food, just basic junk food but yummy. Da Mario is the Italian restaurant and was our favourite of the lot. It's inside and has dim lighting, so more of a romantic vibe. The service is excellent and we can't say enough about Enrique who served us every time we were there. He was extremely attentive, always refilling wine glasses and checking on us. He chatted with us and always made sure our meal was an enjoyable experience. Most of the food on the menu was delicious, although the Tiramisu and Panna cotta were not very good at all. The cannoli however, was very good! Angelica, the hostess was very gracious and sweet. Coco Café is the 24-hour coffee and pastry shop on site. We enjoyed an iced coffee made to order for us by the lady at the counter (not on the menu, but she made it work). We also got a few little sandwiches and crudites from there on days we didn't want lunch. We especially enjoyed the tuna on a croissant. Some of the cookies were a bit dry and lacked a pinch of salt, but that's minor. We enjoyed the Manatees swim-up bar which is of course located in the pool. Only complaint is that it was often very busy, so there was a bit of a wait for your drinks. The Barracuda bar is next to the pool and the bartenders are friendly and efficient. There is also a food area set up next to the bar during the day with burgers, hot dogs, fries and onion rings. Rendezvous is the main bar and we'd go there for a cocktail before dinner and sometimes after dinner for a while. We can't say enough about Cruz who was server/bartender/bus person. She did it all! She was so friendly, efficient and just a superstar! Say hi to her if you go there. She's awesome! The entertainment staff are all just fantastic. They are so friendly and engaging. A special shout out to Daniel who really kept us, and everyone else entertained. We had a great time at the tequila tasting by the pool, the water aerobics class, cocktail-making class and many others. We had such a wonderful 2 weeks at this property and would head back there tomorrow if we could. I'm disappointed at all the bad reviews of this property and it makes me wonder if people were expecting the equivalent of a 5-star N. American resort when paying for a 3-4 star Mexican resort. That's the only reason I can see for anything other than a 4-star review. It's great value for money and like I said, pretty much what we expected.

Jenna A.

Yelp
Ok, so my husband and I stayed here for 7 days in February 2023. We didn't have any sort of expectations coming into it, except for the reviews we read about it - not so great reviews but we decided to give it a chance with an open mind. Well, after the stay here are the pros: 1) hand pressed corn taco shells were fabulous! 2) the drinks are good, no skimping on the alcohol. Now to the cons.... 1) there are times NO restaurants are open except for the cafe, so if you have specific dietary needs, you are SOL. There are only 3 restaurants here so you have limited options. 2) they run out of certain alcohols during your stay. So if you want a specific drink, and they don't have it, you're also SOL until they are restocked or you have to get something else. 3) if you check out at noon and you don't leave until the evening for a flight, you get NO FOOD OR DRINK unless you PURCHASE A DAY PASS FOR $65. 4) veryyyyyg limited options for dietary restrictions, so at the times the place you CAN eat at is closed, you go hungry or you can pay extra in the gift shop area for food at your ALL INCLUSIVE resort. 5) seating at the pool and beach... if you don't get there at 8am and STAY in your seat/chair all day, you might as well go in the water or sit on the steps because that's the only way to stay outside. 6) you have to a put a card (that's located in the corner of your vanity in the bathroom) on your pillow if you want your sheets changed during your stay. We didn't notice this until the 3rd or 4th day..... So in all.... The 1 star is for the tacos and because a star is required for a review. Will not be coming back, neither will the 9 other family members that we came with.

Yvette S.

Yelp
Unfortunately this was not a good place to stay. If I could do a minus star I would. It felt like the Gestapo nazis was running the place. I do not recommend. If you stay through an Airbnb & have a yellow wrist band you are treated like a second class citizen & a criminal. I felt like they were watching our every move wanted to know what we were doing at all times & coming & going. The property was beautiful but the staff & security was mean & rude to all of us, even to other people we made friends with that had yellow wrist bands, Miguel the General Manager who trapped him in the elevator to accuse him of being a liar & a thief with no reason behind the accusations. I have never been so happy to leave a hotel ever.

Yelp
As the saying goes , you get what you pay for . Choose this resort based on great rates . Failed to check yelp first, wish I had. Upgraded to Jr Suite Kid Friendly. Very nice room , first floor, close to pool, bar and beach. Excellent customer service by entire staff at all restaurants, bars, pool staff, etc. Poor quality food in all restaurants. Only exception was the coffee shop which also had great snacks/ sandwiches. Quality of liquor was poor with exception of Mexican beers which was adequate . Needs more bar tenders as wait lines were long at pool bars. We upgraded our package to include top shelf but it was only served at 5th floor lounge. To far away from pool. 3 out of party of 6 got minor cases of food poisoning last two days of our stay. Hired half day boat for fishing. Very successful day with 4 yellowtail all over 30 lbs. at a cost of only $200. Sorry can't recommend this resort.

Yelp
We stayed Feb 3 to Feb 10, 2023. I read several of the reviews after booking and was quite nervous as several of the reviews we not inviting. I have to say our stay was very good. The check in was fairly quick. We decided to upgrade to the Sunscape Club when we got there which was less expensive at check in than including it at the time of booking. This seemed strange to me. The club included a few extra amenities above and beyond the normal, like stocking your fridge every day, a roped off area for sunbathers at the beach, 5th floor bar for drinks and snacks. I believe it was an extra $35 a day to upgrade when we checked in. Our room was spacious and clean. Our view was fantastic. Couldn't beat it. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The language barrier was difficult at times, but we were in another Country. We knew that could be an issue. Food was ok. The Tiki Taco was the best place to eat on site. The Italian restaurant was a nightmare and not worth the wait. Terrible service and hostess, food was just ok. Was told to come back in an hour and then when we came back was told it would be another 2 hours. When we finally did get in it took forever to order. By the time we were seated, one of our party had had enough and wondered off. They were not going to seat us because our 5th person was not present right at that time. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. He ended up not eating with us. (This was not a good experience and I hope they change to making reservations for this restaurant) There were many unhappy people waiting in line who were told the same thing (come back in an hour). Also, when we finally got in there, there were several tables that were open and not being used. The dress code is ridiculous. People were turned away for having very similar type clothes that other people were permitted to wear. The beaches were amazing. This is a very kid friendly and older people type resort. The entertainment was ok. The magic show was the best. They did have some live music from about 9pm to 11pm in the bar. But if you are looking for a huge party bar crowd, this would not be it. We had a good experience with this resort and will be looking in to coming back with the whole family next year.

Yelp
I would put 1/2 a star if I could. We showed up paid the penalty fee, left and stayed at a different resort.

Yelp
Sunscape Puerto Vallarta This is hotel is not as bad you think. It is MUCH, MUCH worse. We had planned on adding our daughter to our reservation at the hotel. Our rate for 2 adults was $255. They wanted $275 to add our daughter. Our Globalist Hyatt status did not matter, no upgrade for us. In the end it was cheaper ($205) to book a second room. The rooms were disgusting. The sheets had semen, blood and hair from a previous guest(s). The mini bar was empty, knob broken and the water out of bathroom sink was brown for the first 1-2 minutes. AC in the room was good though. The food at the Italian restaurant Da Mario was completely inedible. In the end we ate the airplane nuts we saved. Worst of it all, hotel management did not care at all. It their way or the highway and they know you are a captive audience. We left after one night. DO NOT STAY THERE. They are also renovating the building, but aren't telling anybody.

Karen H.

Yelp
-so noisy, they said they put us on quieter side of hotel but they put us just above kids water slide park so noise yay night, noisy at day so no sleep, drunks everywhere and not so nice patrons. Anxiety was high. the hotel told us they'd let us leave only charging us two full days on top of the day we spent but now they are haggling with funjet to give us credit which i don't want we were to get our money back. future Credit wasn't what they wrote down. We agree our money back if we paid for those two extra days. Just go somewhere else. Paramar is recommended.

Ron M.

Yelp
Sunscape is a total dump! Building is falling apart, food is horrible, staff harassed us the entire time! This hotel doesn't even warrant a "1" rating!

linda z.

Yelp
Horrible customer service . You can have an amazing time as long as you don't deal with staff . Unfortunately wasn't the only person saying it. Even the taxi drivers said everyone they pick up complains about the customer service . So unfortunate they are going to ruin a great hotel

Joey W.

Yelp
Took our family of 5 for a week. I've read several reviews and simply disagree. The place is great for a family vacation. Very safe environment and perfectly located. About 10-15 drive from the airport. 20 minutes from the downtown ($10 taxi ride). The staff was great strong drinks. They have entertainment at night and water park for kids under 12. No doubt staying at a place that long the food gets stale but they do their best to change it up for dinner. They also have a food truck with burgers and hot dogs. The one knock was WiFi and the lack of it. But after a while I welcomed it. Our kids were not stuck on their phones and we all just spent time with one another. I would happily come back to sun scape. We had a great time in PV.

Yelp
We wanted a reasonable trip to Puerto Vallarta for specific days in July. Our normal resort was completely booked, we even tried the lower resorts under it but they were booked also. We found Sunscape which looked nice enough on their website. The first time we looked at it and checked the dates, it was one price. The next day we went back to the website and the price had doubled! Waited a couple days and the price went back down the the first price, so we booked 2 rooms. So once the booking was achieved, I checked with them to see if they offered airport shuttle, which is no. So I found the shuttle service through Expedia and got a great price for a family of 4. At the resort, the check in was pretty good BUT I asked to see how much the upgrade would be to the Sunscape Sunclub - we paid extra for both our rooms and wished we didn't. The VIP section on the beach was the same as the other roped off area. The snack area on the 5th floor Sunclub bar area never had anything in the heating trays. But they did serve top shelf alcohol but we didn't drink that much there. The service in the bar was great though. So let's go on with our rooms-VERY NOISY during the day. The shower had pretty good pressure but it stayed hot for about 1 minute and then freezing cold for about 30 seconds and then SCORCHING hot and then normal and so forth. The safe didn't work so we had to call for assistance, The bedding had rips on it and taped/glued back together. But overall, the bed wasn't to uncomfortable. The room could have been updated but I wasn't expecting to much. I do think they could clean the black mildew on the shower ceiling though. NOW, for an all inclusive resort and it advertises for a full mini bar in the room, they do not offer this for free except the first night. They do not restock with anything except water for the remainder of the stay unless you upgrade. the AC rattled all night long, it would never shut off, the phone didn't work, the fridge leaked, both outlets didn't work but it is what we paid for I guess even though we still paid over $2300.00 for the rooms. - the staff was super friendly - the food was not the best. After every meal, all four of us had to use the bathroom. I am not kidding. We couldn't tell really if it was the food, the ice or the plastic glasses they washed in dirty water. There wasn't much of a selection for food in the buffet. The TikiTaco had decent food. The Italian restaurant was the best! Their food was delicious. The service was GREAT! If I would have known, we would have ate dinner there every night. The resort is self was good. Not many nightly activities. One per night so everyone was trying to do the same thing as everyone else every night. The only pizza available was in the Italian Restaurant which you have to eat there. Food is not allowed on the beach or pool. the cups were reused without washing (except dip in dirty water or sterilizing them. He kept grabbing a cup out of a dirty sink and stuck it in another sink of water that has been sitting all day. So, I recommend bringing your own tumbler. As I mentioned the staff was friendly and we did have a good time overall. Just one more recommendation, don't get suckered into going to Secrets for a "Membership" presentation. It is a timeshare presentation and the coupons they give you for a message is only valid at Secrets. They say the offer miniature gold but there is none. Nor did I see any of the non-motorized beach activities without paying. There wasn't any paddle boards or kayaks as stated in their binder or website.

Yelp
This Resort has a lot to work on overall. The Ice machine broke down and closed the bars early expect the one in the lobby. No family activities during the day or pool activities. Pool closes early at 7PM which is superrr early for being a "resort". Food was not the best and did not have my food options. Got in trouble for having a speaker at the beach which apparently isn't allowed. Not a great experience for my family and I.

Yelp
The view is pretty beautiful, although where the hotel is in the bay, you cannot see the sunset from your balcony. If you're a family or people who like noise and want to stay drunk the whole time, this may be the place for you. We paid for the day pass to eat and drink for one day. In our opinion the food and drinks were low quality and the service was poor. The pros: - the room was great, clean, spacious, and good view. - location is not far from anything. The cons: - Loud noise all day and to 11pm every night - Very busy, lots of people and kids - Food and drink were poor quality Next time we come to PV we'll be staying in Old Town near the boardwalk.

Yelp
Other than the atmosphere and some staff members I do not recommend this hotel. Still currently staying here until Monday and counting down the days. The buffet has absolutely no selection the same thing everyday and which probably 10 options total. The most ridiculous rule I've heard is men are not allowed to wear a sleeveless shirt into their buffet which is next to the pool and is outdoors but yet females like myself are allowed in the buffet in a bathing suit with a simple cover-up. TikiTaco, they put very little meat in their food feels like they are feeding a child. The beach is super rocky so take water-shoes.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE!! This hotel is a nightmare. Highlights include: I FELL THROUGH THE ROOF by the gym (seriously an unsafe place - and no, I was not drinking and no, I am not overweight); after telling staff, they still took more than 2 hours to rope off the area; check-in took more than 2 hours; they've run out of towels everyday, bad wi-fi, AND...there is construction going on all over this hotel. There is no peace. I wish I could say it wasn't too bad, but this is the worst vacation experience I've had.

Yelp
I'm sharing our story because this hotel is not safe!! We are lucky to be alive! On the evening of the 9th-early morning on the 10th I was awaken to Kevin screaming for help. I jumped up out of bed to see our room door open. I saw that Kevin was in front of our room door being attacked. I walked out in the hall and could see Kevin was attacked by two of the hotel staff of the Sunscape and at least 3 other unknown men on our floor. I was asking what is happening what is going on. All I could see was multiple people kicking Kevin and holding him down very aggressively. I tried to get them to release him and let him back inside our room. When I attempted to speak a man pushed me. I was wearing a tube top dress and my dress was ripped off and I was pushed down onto the floor. When that happened Kevin began to fight back more. Still being held down Kevin was continuing to be beat by the staff. I stood back up and watched helplessly as my boyfriend was beat violently attacked. As soon as the police put Kevin in handcuffs I locked myself into the hotel room scared for my life and not knowing what to do I called 911 (which does not work there) this was at approximately 1:36 am. I called both of Kevin's parents not knowing what to do. I will add that Kevin's clothes he had been wearing were inside our room. He did not have shoes or a shirt on. I went to the front desk of the hotel demanding they let me know where they took him. They told me I could not leave the property and they took him to "Mexican jail ". I went to the front desk and demanded a taxi. I got into a taxi and the cab driver took me directly to the jail. They demanded only cash. Did not tell me if he had been charged with anything nor why they took him. They only wanted cash. I went back to the hotel to get more cash that I had locked in the safe and returned to the jail. I got Kevin and asked to be returned back to our hotel. When I arrived back at the Sunscape at 5 am I was told that Kevin was not allowed on the property. I went to the front desk and demanded a refund. They told me that they would refund our money if I signed a release. A release that stated the hotel was not liable. I refused to sign and said they could send it to my attorney. After arguing with the front desk for about 30 minutes (with Kevin laying outside the gates of the hotel beat and bruised). I went to the room and collected all of our things. They sent 5 men with me which made me very uncomfortable considering what had just happened. I loaded our belongings into the cab. I asked the driver to take me to another hotel just for the night. I paid the taxi driver and we eventually went to rest at 6 am the morning of the 10th. I called the Sunscape the next morning around 9 am asking to speak with the General Manager. I was put on hold and then hung up on. Kevin's iPhonex was taken when he was attacked in front of our door. I tracked it to the following location: Privada Espana 186, Diaz Ordaz, Puerto Vallarta. Around 4pm I called the Sunscape again asking to speak with a Manager. Was put on hold again and hung up on. On the 11th I called again this time I asked about Kevin's missing cell phone. They finally connected me with someone. The person I spoke with was at the Concierge desk. I told her who I was and that I was calling wanting a refund and asking about Kevin's missing cell phone. She said I needed to return to the hotel's property and sign a release. I said I would not and I did not feel safe on their property. So she then asked me if I would email a hand written note to concierge.sunpv@sunscaperesorts.com stating that I would release the hotel from all liability. She said as soon as they received that they would refund our money. I contacted @unitedvacations to request a refund for our hotel stay since we were not allowed to stay. I believe that we were targeted we are both Americans. I am going to attach pictures of the injuries Kevin and I received.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this resort for our family summer vacation and overall I was sorely disappointed. When we arrived they took our luggage to "decontaminate" it from our flight - whatever they sprayed on it was greasy and completely destroyed my brand new luggage. After we got our room key our luggage was missing and it took about two hours for them to get it to our room. Our two young girls were crying and upset because they wanted to swim and we couldn't take them to the pool with our luggage... The food here was overall terrible with the exception of the Italian restaurant and the Seaside Grill. Every day for lunch it is burgers, hot dogs, and Sams club potato chips. People who I am sure we're not staying at this hotel would get in line and order 9-10 burgers/hot dogs and they were never questioned. There was only one person working and the line took literally 45 minutes to an hour. The plus side to this place was the beach access. Again, people not staying at this resort would take all of the chairs and shade and they were never asked for proof to being guests at the resort which was super frustrating. The kids really enjoyed the "water park" area with slides. The pool was a little old and filled with sand, but that's to be expected in a beach front pool I suppose. The room was also outdated and nothing like the description said. It absolutely did not "sleep 6" and there was not enough room for our family of 5. They would not provide bedding for the couch so we had to snag some off of a housekeeping cart. Overall this resort was a huge disappointment. If we ever return to PVR, we would not stay here again!

Yelp
Some time ago this resort was rated higher and doing well. Now it's a disaster. Really poor upkeep (most air conditioners out of order etc.) and the food was so bad we were afraid to eat most of it. If you go plan on ordering pizza delivered from elsewhere. We went down for a honeymoon for 6 days and checked out after one night. The staff were rude and claimed to not speak English so would not help us for anything. It's so bad there was actual mold on the rims of the glassware in our mini-bar. This place could definitely use a total overhaul and new staff.

Yelp
Horrible horrible! Bed bugs all over the place, itching nonstop middle of the night, woke up with pimples all over legs and arms, when asked the supervisors declined and refused to move me and my parents to another bedroom and suggested a 1 bed room with barely any space. Food was dry, saggy and expired. When notified then they said they use a big container to fill their expired ketchup. We laid $720 to have no view and be right next a building with a super loud AC unit that kept us up through the whole stay. Their drinks were watered down. I had to early checkout because of emergency and I was targeted by the employees to make sure I would leave and kept getting watched by every employee. Horrible and extremely expensive. Ruined the whole trip for me and my family! BEWARE of this hotel. Go to Venetian Vallarta hotel and save yourself a headache and trips to the bathroom because of the horrible food. Believe it or not they had people complaining nonstop there. Food. 0/10 Drinks 0/10 Service - NEGATIVE Cleansing - HORRIBLE

Yelp
Extremely unorganized, food is horrible, no manager to speak of and couldn't even sleep due to the horrible music at the pool. It was so loud just banging on head all night long. Never again!!!

Yelp
In our experience, this "resort" felt more like a prison sentence than a beach resort. Originally booked for 5 nights and paid for two rooms, one an upgraded room (Sun Club), the other a standard 2 queen room. We were so unsatisfied that we ate the cost and ended up checking into a new resort after day 2. :( The upgrade was a joke and in no way was our room anything like the pretty Sun Club Suite Bay View pictures represented on the website. There was one window, patio door, a California king, a flat screen TV and a table below it. There were no sitting chairs or other furniture (besides night stands). The room was somewhere between 300-400 sq feet. To make the review a simpler read, here's an overview: - The shower door sounded like it was going to break every time it was opened and closed and the shower head looked like it needed to be cleaned or replaced a couple years ago (inconsistent water stream - most of it drizzled out of the shower head rather than sprayed). - The bathroom stall door (toilet) had a piece of wood screwed into it to keep the slider from going inside the wall and it kept falling out... it looked like an after-thought. - The balcony was on the top floor and nice sized with a great view but also came with it's disadvantages: * Balcony light could not be switched off, thus, window curtains needed to be completely closed unless you don't mind blaring light while you're trying to sleep * Top floor patio meant open to the rain - I'll cover that later - Your ride to the 18th floor will be a slow one (about 3 seconds per floor) - Also being top floor for the sun club, you have half of a covered ceiling to get to your room, so if its raining, you're going to get wet. - Our room flooded when it rained on our 2nd night (as well as both rooms on each side of us (we heard the complaints similar to ours to hotel staff). * The resolution provided by hotel staff was to put us in either a downgraded room or deal with the water and a bunch of towels. * When I called the front desk to let them know we had water in our entry way, bathroom, and bedroom surrounding the windows and door, the immediate response I got was, "Well, it's raining". Sorry, but I didn't think my reservation included this feature. - The pool side restaurant (actually, all restaurants) required sleeves for men... actually ALL of the restaurants did (never heard of this at a beach resort before). * Women, rest easy, it's ok for you to go to eat in your tube tops and tanks. * We did not know this until after fixing a plate and when we went to get seated was told we couldn't eat, even at the bar and that we'd have to change. 3 plates of food wasted. - Got stuck in the elevator temporarily between floors 11 and 12. - When we arrived, they took our bags to bring to our room. This was a initially thought to be a nicety until 2 hours later they hadn't arrived yet and we had to call for them, then the bell boy expected a tip.... - As the other reviews state, the food is mediocre at best but Tiki Tacos really was the best of all. * This is IF you can stand to eat in a room with the exposed kitchen, no A/C or other ventilation (not even a ceiling fan). We rushed through our food so that we could get back outside and get some air. This was especially fun in sleeved shirts... possibly bearable in a tank top but if you're a dude, you're SOL. - This is supposed to be an all inclusive where the refrigerator is to be restocked nightly as well. Enjoy that Sprite or Coke because you may not get a new one the next night. Same with the M&M's. No refill there either. - Free Wifi? Nope. * They have an internet cafe, but it closed at 8pm. When we asked to be let out of our reservation (because we frankly couldn't take it anymore) or moved to their upgraded hotel (Secrets resort and spa) we were told that we could be moved if we paid for the difference and sat through a time share presentation. Gee, thanks but no thanks. The concierge staff was very polite and tried what they could but the manager was not as cooperative and was the one who told us about our "options" to be accommodated for a very unfortunate inconvenience. If this is your first beach resort vacation, I'm sure this will do, but if you've ever been to a resort where the point is to relax and enjoy yourself, I'd say move on.. there's certainly much better out there. And by better, I mean, cleaner, more accommodating, less wet, better maintained, and with better food. If you still want to book here - good luck!!!
