A Magical First Night in Santorini – Worth Every Penny and Then Some
After 14 hours of travel through the night, we landed in Santorini absolutely exhausted—but determined to kick off the first night of our honeymoon right. Sunset Ammoudi did more than deliver; it gave us an unforgettable culinary experience that set the tone for the rest of our trip.
We’re big-time foodies, and while this restaurant is often labeled as “pricey” with people assuming you’re just paying for the view, we’re here to say: yes, the view is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, but the food is what truly steals the show. And in our case, the company made it a trifecta of perfection.
We reserved the coveted €180 sunset table a month in advance, and let me tell you, it was worth every cent—and more. That reservation goes toward your final bill, so it made it feel like a head start on an indulgent evening of eating and drinking.
The Meal (Prepare to Be Jealous)
We started with:
• Basket of bread
• Marinated olives
• Anchovies
• Fried squid
• A bottle of local wine
The flavors were a beautiful welcome to Greece. The olives and anchovies stood out as stars of the first round—bright, briny, and deeply satisfying. The fried squid was crisp, tender, and seasoned to perfection.
For our next round, we had:
• Grilled octopus
• Sautéed scallops
• Steamed mussels
The grilled octopus was intimidating at first (large suckers and all!) but ended up being one of the best-prepared octopus dishes we’ve ever had—charred just right, tender, and full of smoky sea flavor. Mussels were fresh, juicy, and aromatic. Scallops were good, though in hindsight, we’d probably skip them next time—less wow-factor compared to everything else.
Then came the showstopper:
• Red Snapper (whole fish)
From the visual presentation to the last bite of that perfectly crisp, charred skin—this dish was unforgettable. Fresh, flaky, flavorful. Truly the highlight of the evening.
We were stuffed at this point, but couldn’t resist ending the night with one more dish:
• Sea bream ceviche
Even though we were beyond full, this dish left us wishing we had ordered it sooner. Bright, citrusy, and beautifully balanced—perfect for a hot night by the water.
The Service – Above and Beyond
And now, to the real MVP of the evening—Yannis (though there may be two Yannis’s, we’re talking about our Yannis). He made us feel welcome, never rushed, and treated us like locals rather than just tourists passing through. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. So much so that we asked him to sign a napkin with the Sunset Ammoudi logo so we could put it in our honeymoon memory book. This man is a gem, and Sunset Ammoudi is lucky to have him.
The Bill – A Worthy Splurge
We went all out and spent €332.70, which included two bottles of wine and what could easily feed a small group of people. With the €180 sunset table already pre-paid and deducted, the total felt more than reasonable for such a luxurious experience. For us, it wasn’t just a meal—it was an event, a memory, and the perfect start to our honeymoon.

In Summary:
If you’re considering Sunset Ammoudi—do it. Go early enough to catch the full sunset, reserve a premium table in advance, and arrive hungry. You may come for the view, but you’ll leave raving about the food—and if you’re lucky, about your server too.
We can’t wait to return. Until next time, Sunset Ammoudi. 🐙🍷🌅
