POOL WAS WARM AND CLEAN. EVEN THE ADULTS SWAM.
I want to give this place 5 BUT unfortunately if I don't get a good nights sleep, I can't, no matter what the other amenities are.
Booking was easy, prices were decent for summer months, the staff working were all very friendly and helpful, free and easy parking, games inside the office you can borrow, nice new tv if you want to watch a movie, very short walk across the street to the beach, close enough to walk a few blocks into the town and shops, awesome view of the ocean from our room, warm and clean pool, plenty of hot water for all of us to take showers and nice size kitchenette rooms.
The downside is that we were on the bottom floor of the hotel and it sounded like Sasquatch was having a dance party in the room above us. I know that isn't the hotels fault necessarily but if the floor and insulation is so thin that you can hear people walking, it really stinks for the person on the bottom floor.
There was some type of family reunion going on in the rooms above us. Those people came out early in the morning, turned music up, and sat in lawn chairs in front of our/their rooms and talked. So, after trouncing around upstairs, they decided to have their party outside our room.
While we were swimming in the pool, they sat in the same place and smoked cigars. While the smell of cigars doesn't bother me, i didn't like it around my kiddos and some might not like the smell of any smoke while they are enjoying themselves outside. The smoke drifted right into the pool area.
The office can see this area clearly from where they are and to my knowledge they didn't seem to care.
I don't know if this is the atmosphere all the time, but it kinda sucked that it happened while we stayed there.
But, all told I would stay here again but ONLY on the top floor.
Manzanita is an interesting town. They can't seem to decide whether they want to be warm and welcoming to tourists or if they are pissed that vacationers and wealthy people are buying all of the houses bringing in more tourists. We heard from several business owners (who seem pretty mad and resentful) that they can't get workers because there is no affordable housing. While that stinks, I am on vacation, I am paying to be there, and it isn't my fault. I don't really want to be made to feel bad for coming to vacation in your town. Several businesses had a very rude attitude as if we were lucky they were there. Most businesses close very early (only one place open, right in town, to eat if you want to eat after 9). I get it, they dont have workers. It just didn't feel like a real welcoming town in general. Cannon Beach to the north or Rockaway Beach to the south seemed more welcoming.
Salt and Paper, Big Wave Cafe, and Manzanita Coffee were the exceptions.
