The customer service at the desk was perfectly polite, the room was clean and as pictured, but the loveseat in the photo looks decent, in reality it's pretty broken down and so tiny for the space. Four people wouldn't be comfortable to hang out, thankfully it was just 2 of us, but we couldn't really sit comfortably together. Other than that, great space, great location, good value for the money, and VERY comfy beds. Can't beat the views!

Sunset Surf rooms are very clean! The staff was friendly and helpful. The room had a great view for high tides! It is right next to the beach, which is a easy walk and beautiful place. The town is within walking distant with fun places and yummy food! We had a great time here. Loved it

We were looking forward to celebrating my husband's December birthday at our favorite place on the beach. Before we arrived, the owner called to tell us that there was a massive power failure and she didn't know when there would be power. She had to use her personal cell phone because the power failure meant she couldn't access the phones or computer system. She even recommended alternative accommodations in another town but we had our hearts set on Manzanita beachfront so we returned home the same day. We got a full refund promptly and painlessly. |We've been coming here for decades. We'll be back. It's got a great location, friendly service and is affordable. Some reviews have complained about the rooms being too hot, but we've always come in the winter and I've never actually experienced hot weather on the Oregon coast no matter what the season.

This is for the main building, though they have a 2nd building a block away with additional rooms that appears to be newer, where friends stayed. My room was clean, roomy with a good shower, quiet and views of the ocean out each window facing N and S. The bed was comfortable. There was a microwave, mini fridge with freezer and coffee. Quiet baseboard heat, but no AC though you would rarely need this on the Oregon coast. The building shows some age, but there was newer carpet in the room and was in good shape.

Just completed a long weekend stay and we were very happy with the accommodations. Location is great. Service was excellent. Yes, it's an older beach motel and you have to realize that going in, but our room was clean and comfortable. The only drawback is no AC.

Google
The views and location are perfection. The rooms are very run down with an unpleasant odor and in need of repairs. Great value with a low price on the off-season but I wouldn't return here.

First time visiting Manzanita, we weren’t sure where we would stay, but as soon I walked in to the office, the lovely lady behind the counter named Adear (hope I’m spelling it correctly) greeted me with a pleasant smile and accommodated us above and beyond. Rooms are a little outdated, but the great customer service and location more than make up for it! After all, most of our time was spent right across on the beach or walking around the small quaint town. The price was well worth it! Next time we visit, we will be staying there again. 😊

Google
Older but clean place, Mattress a bit firm for me and my back, but that's just the way I am. No fans or air conditioning!!! Thankfully, it wasn't too hot outside in the high 70s. The sliding glass door you enter to the room faces the afternoon peak sun. Pool looked nice, but we did swim those 3 days. Only a 30 second walk to the beach, nice!

Yelp
Cute affordable lil motel right on the beach with a niiiiice hot shower and cozy bed n blankets.

Yelp
Quite disappointed that I have to write this as a local member of the community and business owner. I have been performing work on the home behind the hotel for a few months now. This hotel is currently having repairs done to their roof. We recently had high winds and due to the negligence of the hotel their composite roof shingles were tossed everywhere within a few blocks of the hotel. Some of them caused damage to the brand new gutters and downspouts on the home I am remodeling. No effort was made by the hotels staff or owners to cleanup the neighborhood. Me and another contractor spent an hour collecting all the unsightly debris around the house and the neighbors after about a week of it being ignored. There are still shingles in the trees around the motel. I attempted to resolve the damage caused by their negligence and was shrugged off by the staff. I left my phone number and a receipt for the repairs as well as the dump fees and my time. I stopped in today, a week later and was handed my receipt with a note that said "Mr Kim says no, per Greg". No phone call, no efforts to explain why they feel they are not responsible. These people are clearly very cheap. The motel is in obvious need of repairs. Clearly they only care about profiting off of visitors and have no regard for the neighbors, the locals or the community. Well, I'm not the guy to be shrugged off while you profit. I have filed a police report and intend to take them to small claims court and request reimbursement for the repairs, dump fees and now missed wages for my time having to do this. These people don't care about their property or anyone else's. Support manzanita and its locals and stay away from this place. Stay elsewhere.

Yelp
Very basic motel with no amenities other than a pool. Some rooms have kitchenettes. It's old and shows it but it was clean. Everything worked. The attraction is that it daces the beach. So location is amazing.

Kylie A.

Yelp
Very bad hotel...do not recommend...very poorly maintained and outdated. Shower sprayed everywhere, very thin walls and floors, and gross looking bed covers and pillows. Save your money.

Royce M.

Yelp
Horrible motel. Uncomfortable beds. The television was unplugged upon arrival and the mini fridge was warm. The shower leaked all over the floor. The place smells like a dank basement. The staff never answers the phone. I learned why after checking in and witnessed the front desk being glued to phone games. I wouldn't stay at this crap motel again even if it was free.

Yelp
Had a great stay here, pre-Labor Day 2020 and then back in 2015. I had some friends visiting here and so I got my own room, to join their company. I splurged a bit getting a King Suite, mostly I wanted the view. So, when I entered my room I was stunned at how large my room was! It was like a small apartment. I was happy, kind of over the top, but it was peaceful and there were many large windows to look out at the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Check-in was simple, although they called a day before and the day of my arrival to make sure I was still coming, and gathered facts about any COVID-19 exposure and share their protocols. I had two pleasant sleeps here and the room was handy for walking to the beach and walking into town to grab a coffee or drink. King bed, sofa, TV, kitchenette with microwave, fridge, freezer, and a stove. Room included a coffeemaker and you had to get packets of coffee from the office by request. When I checked-in I automatically asked if I could get three coffee packets ahead of time. This was a smart idea v. heading downt to the lobby after waking and asking for coffee packets. Friendly guests on the property, it was COVID, so most wore masks, some didn't. Lovely, simple, a bit rustic. Good parking lot. Strong WIFI which worked well - I used it for my work computer.

Yelp
This place is a dump. Our room smelt like a cocktail of mold and dirt. I would highly discourage anyone from staying here.

Yelp
This motel was comfy and clean. We were looking for a place with an ocean view that wouldn't break the bank and I stumbled on this lovely little gem right across from the beach. This place was the closest to the ocean we could find for miles. The rooms were cozy and have been updated with being repainted, new carpet and flooring. It had everything we could need. When we got there in the afternoon on a Satday they were almost full, and we got the last room a studio, room 39. I would recommend the room, it was upstairs with the most amazing view and was comfy and clean. I was pleasantly surprised by the vicinity to the beach and the awesome views when we got there. And beach access is really easy to get to; Just walk across the street! It also has a heated outdoor pool as well as being close to restaurants and shopping.

Linda H.

Yelp
This is the worst place I have ever stayed. The only positive thing is you do have a beach view but for $180.00 it was the worst money I have ever spent. No one to check us in at the front desk-had to wait 5 min. No parking, had to park on the street. The room had a very musky wet dog smell that was awful. We could not spend any time in the room just to sleep it was so bad. They called this the Jr. Suite- everything was outdated- Old paneling walls, ugly dirty carpet and NO sitting space at all. Bathroom was so small and outdated and smelled so bad we did not even take a shower. These owner should be very embarrassed to run a business this way. When I spoke with the Manager Brian he did not care. They refused any kind of refund. The only thing that keeps them in business is the location. Don't let that fool you!!!!

Victoria H.

Yelp
I can't even rate this place because they cancelled our prepaid deposit without our knowledge. In January my husband and I had driven through Manzanita and thought what a wonderful place to come back and spend our anniversary in May. So we put a deposit down and when our anniversary came we were so excited to go back. We got there only to be told our reservations were cancelled, they said they refunded our deposit. So there we were, with no accommodations. I was told by the clerk "my manager will be back Sunday" considering this was a weekend getaway that was of no help. Luckily we found another place on our own, but I would never recommend this place to anyone

Yelp
Desperate for a break and some zen, Princess and I loaded up the car and headed here for two nights ( Monday and Tuesday) during spring break. I had scoured the web at rather the last minute ( the Friday before) and was lucky enough to land a junior suite here for $90/night. Oceanfront. It's definitely budget friendly and therefore not all that luxurious. Room #32 is upstairs, over the pass to the parking lot, with people trooping back and forth to their rooms between us and the ocean view with frequency varying throughout the day. Lots of kids, including those on scooters and skateboards in the parking lot, were a whooping and a hollering. If you're looking for total quiet this might not be your spot. If you want windows open to hear the ocean this isn't your room. It had a sliding glass door entrance and windows right on the "hall". But there is a separate room with a queen bed perfect for sticking kids in, and a tiny kitchen with a fridge, sink, microwave, and electric skillet.Plenty of Ikea flatware, glassware, and dishes. The critically important corkscrew. Everything was clean. The bathroom was fine. No couch or easy chair ( another queen bed in the main space) but a table with four chairs perfect for meals and board games. We brought scrabble but I noticed they had games in the office. There is a flatscreen tv with cable so my teen didnt miss izombie. Wifi is present but verrrrry slowwwwww. This frustrated the teen so I handed her a backup real book. All good. Sunset Surf is close to Marzano's pizza and their convenient walkup pickup window, and an espresso place with ice cream and breakfast items in case you're not into cooking. If you are, apparently some of the rooms have ovens ( another guest at the desk showed up with an enormous homemade lasagna he planned to reheat for a family gathering). I think this motel is totally worth exploring when looking for a place to stay in Manzanita. The best part? the ocean was freaking RIGHT THERE. Can't beat that with a piece of driftwood. P.S. Pet friendly and heated outdoor pool in summer.

Olystacy B.

Yelp
ASK FOR AN UPSTAIRS ROOM UNLESS YOU ARE A VERY HEAVY SLEEPER. POOL WAS WARM AND CLEAN. EVEN THE ADULTS SWAM. I want to give this place 5 BUT unfortunately if I don't get a good nights sleep, I can't, no matter what the other amenities are. Booking was easy, prices were decent for summer months, the staff working were all very friendly and helpful, free and easy parking, games inside the office you can borrow, nice new tv if you want to watch a movie, very short walk across the street to the beach, close enough to walk a few blocks into the town and shops, awesome view of the ocean from our room, warm and clean pool, plenty of hot water for all of us to take showers and nice size kitchenette rooms. The downside is that we were on the bottom floor of the hotel and it sounded like Sasquatch was having a dance party in the room above us. I know that isn't the hotels fault necessarily but if the floor and insulation is so thin that you can hear people walking, it really stinks for the person on the bottom floor. There was some type of family reunion going on in the rooms above us. Those people came out early in the morning, turned music up, and sat in lawn chairs in front of our/their rooms and talked. So, after trouncing around upstairs, they decided to have their party outside our room. While we were swimming in the pool, they sat in the same place and smoked cigars. While the smell of cigars doesn't bother me, i didn't like it around my kiddos and some might not like the smell of any smoke while they are enjoying themselves outside. The smoke drifted right into the pool area. The office can see this area clearly from where they are and to my knowledge they didn't seem to care. I don't know if this is the atmosphere all the time, but it kinda sucked that it happened while we stayed there. But, all told I would stay here again but ONLY on the top floor. Manzanita is an interesting town. They can't seem to decide whether they want to be warm and welcoming to tourists or if they are pissed that vacationers and wealthy people are buying all of the houses bringing in more tourists. We heard from several business owners (who seem pretty mad and resentful) that they can't get workers because there is no affordable housing. While that stinks, I am on vacation, I am paying to be there, and it isn't my fault. I don't really want to be made to feel bad for coming to vacation in your town. Several businesses had a very rude attitude as if we were lucky they were there. Most businesses close very early (only one place open, right in town, to eat if you want to eat after 9). I get it, they dont have workers. It just didn't feel like a real welcoming town in general. Cannon Beach to the north or Rockaway Beach to the south seemed more welcoming. Salt and Paper, Big Wave Cafe, and Manzanita Coffee were the exceptions.

Aaron T.

Yelp
Our stay was pleasant mostly due to the location/view of the beach. The unit had definitely received a facelift which was nice. That being said, there definitely was no insulation in the walls or ceiling since we could hear clear conversations from adjacent rooms upstairs and on either side not to mention early risers walking around above us and flushing toilets and showers - very frustrating. Probably the worst was the fact that they advertise that they have WiFi and after countless times trying to connect and at least try to scroll thru Facebook, the WiFi was none existent - don't even try to stream anything! The staff was pleasant and accommodating which was another plus. Pros: Location and friendly, accommodating staff. Cons: Building needs an update, not just a facelift. NON EXISTENT WIFI - don't plan to spend much time relaxing streaming anything, if that's what was part of your plans.

JW R.

Yelp
Great spot. Our room was a two-bed suite (perfect for my snoring and my good lady's sleeping) with a kitchenette. The shelves were fully stocked with a fridge, an electric skillet and an electric kettle so it's perfect for families since Manzanita is NOT a bustling metropolis full of eating opportunities. Most impressively to me was the bathroom floor was not freezing cold in the middle of the night. Definitely helped me get to sleep. There's a pool assuming the weather cooperates and the motel is immediately adjacent to the beach, with only a small road to get across. Check in was easy, check out equally so. Both front desk clerks were helpful and efficient. This little one-street town is hardly my kinda place but SSM makes it easier to endure.

Gabi D.

Yelp
For starters, there is a nice view. Staff was not very friendly and there is not enough parking to accommodate the amount of guests they serve. Unfortunately one of our towels was clearly dirty, with makeup on it. The microwave is quite ancient and does not work. Walls are also quite thin. Also, seems overpriced. Nice location, in terms of proximity, but we won't be coming here again.

Chris B.

Yelp
I'm very happy with our suite here. Got a nice deal on the family suite in the Budd building. 2nd floor, unobstructed ocean view, fully furnished kitchen w dishwasher, and a gas fireplace. There are 2 queen beds, both comfy, with one in a private room, and one in the main living area. Cute 4 top table, 2 TV's with premium channels, and more! Super quiet this time of the year; perfect for storm watching, beach combing, and just relaxing. Service is friendly and check-in was easy peasy. Can't wait to come back when the pool is open in warmer weather. Manzanita is such a great little town. Fun restaurants and a pub or two, along with some interesting shops. As noted above, the town does get quiet in the winter so be aware of limited hours and/or closures at some local spots.

Tom H.

Yelp
The location right next to the beach and the views from our room gets the three stars. If that were all I was reviewing I'd give it five stars. The staff were pleasant. However, my two complaints are with the sliding glass doors and the mattress. The doors are old and not maintained well. The weathering on them since they're right next to the salty ocean has taken its toll. They're hard to open and don't slide well, and since this is the only way in and out of your room it's a major issue. The mattress in our room had to have been the lowest quality mattress money could buy. Springs covered by a thin material gave me a backache both nights. There is also an odor emitting from somewhere in the room that I can only guess comes from the mattress. Update just these things and it would make a huge difference. But wow that view of the ocean, and the fact that within 60 seconds from leaving your room you're on the beach, that's hard to beat!

John Y.

Yelp
If I could give this 0 stars I would. I read the review on Kayka.com (which I later discovered that for some mysterious reason is the first site that pops up (some how it worked it so when you type in for a hotel review of some vacation getaway it lists and reviews only the hotels it represents.) In any case, the view was from the window was so-so because the hotel WAS NOT on the beach. it was across from the highway. And the hotel is actually two hotels. One is down the block from the other. The pool was closed because of some kind of 'cleaning emergency'. Minor problems: there was sand in the bathroom, stains on the rug, someone's sock in bottom drawer, and in the sink around the bathtub: sand! sand! sand! They should call it 'SAND SURF MOTEL'. Wait! There's more! The sheets had an odd perfumed smell which may have been too much cheap detergent; don't know.) The tiny fridge didn't keep our juice cool. Last but not least: (and this is the main reason I'm giving them zero stars) I woke up with an uncontrollable itching sensation on my legs and thighs. (I have no idea what it was, and hate to imagine.) I do NOT recommend this hotel and will never go back there as long as I live!

Linda L.

Yelp
We weren't expecting a super room for the price, but we also never expected the dark and musty room we were given. No website-promised "sun-kissed ocean view" for us! We had arrived early so we asked that they move us to another room. They were polite as they told us there were no other rooms available and offered us a "generous" $11.70 discount. It was spring break so there were no other places available nearby. We will never book here again and would not recommend it to anyone. The only reason we gave it 2 stars was for it's good location. The window leaked (we had to use towels so that the water didn't drip on the baseboard heater), it smelled musty, we heard every footstep from the room above us, the lighting was inadequate, there was a locked door in the bathroom marked "private" (not sure what was on the other side and who could open it)...

Lisa C.

Yelp
i loved absolutely everything about this hotel!! Loved it! but when i went to bed, it was like sleeping on the floor. couldn't get comfy at all. ended up sleeping in my van at about 2am. i feel bad for them because they just bought all new mattresses! they are the worst I've slept on and i travel a LOT. Owner said, "some folks like them, some don't" New mattresses please! so if you're like my dad and need firm - this is your place!

Mike E.

Yelp
I love staying here but lately it's not worth it. They run seasonal sales but the way they do it makes it very hard to plan a trip. We are over a week into November and they have not yet posted their November discount. I was heading there for a few nights but decided to stay somewhere else. They need to put this out in advance. Too bad as friendly staff and nice town. I am not sure why they still have a discount code up for June 2019. I wish they had one for November because I would've stayed there.

Jacob T.

Yelp
This Hotel was great. We were looking for a place on the beach and this was the closest to the ocean we could find for miles. The rooms were cozy but modern, and had everything we needed. When we got there in the afternoon on a Sunday they were almost full, and were full right after we left as well so getting a room might be a bit hard. But it was awesome once we got there. And beach access is really easy to get to; Just walk across the street! The town has good places to get breakfast, I recommend Yolk!

David W.

Yelp
This place is PERFECT for celebrating Halloween! It appears to have renovated sometime in the 1950's, and comes with ample hairs in the coffee maker, a plugged sink, moldy stairways, and an overall appearance of "would you actually choose to spend the night here?".... There is a pullout on highway 101 just North of town that just might get four more stars than Sunset Surf Motel...

Andrea B.

Yelp
Ugh. The mold. The party below my room really sucks too..The mold. Did I mention mold? Budd Building was good several years ago, not sure about it now. Ashley Building and Main Building is MOLD. I am so allergic

Nik R.

Yelp
Across the street from the ocean. Literally. If there were a tsunami and it hit Manzanita, this little place would be sucked right out to sea. It's awesome! We splurged a little for the suites down the street from the main building, which I think was definitely worth it. There was a fireplace, full kitchenette (which is a must if you have eating restrictions, as food options are limited in Manzanita), and balcony to watch the stunning sunsets. Go off-season for the best rates and an experience of having the entire beach to yourself.

Vincent L.

Yelp
Room was large and clean....view was excellent....staff was very very friendly Two complaints: 1. We put the "Maid Service" sign on the door and didn't get service 2. Shower has no pressure and water doesn't stay warm for long

Marie P.

Yelp
Went there the weekend of "Muttzanita" a dog event to help the local rescue. What a terrible place to stay. Overpriced, the door was sliding glass, was so hot, asked the recept gal to show me how to cook the room down. She came in and tried in about 5 minutes, but said it must be broken, that she would let the maintenance guy know about it "tomorrow". Did me no good, just stayed for the night with my two dogs. She did bring me an old box fan. Had to open the sliding door, bugs and grasshoppers saw the light and hundreds of bugs attacking the light. Only 3 grasshoppers jumped in. Scared my friend and I...ick. But took a tissue, threw the grass hoppers out (alive). Turned off the lights, left the door open and about an hour later of visiting with my friend who upon leaving, turned on the light, bugs, most of them anyways, had exited I assume to the light outside. The room was Oceanview, but there is a tool shed blocking the view so you just see the back of the shed. The rooms are pretty old and unkept. Next morning I went to the front desk and told the gal, (not the same one from night before), she said there is no air conditioning in the room. Not impressed at all.

Dyanne G.

Yelp
Despite the weather and hard beds, you can't beat the price, location and outdoor heated pool for the nice little town of Manzanita. Ocean view + price + adorable Manzanita = perfect mini break get away!

Heather J.

Yelp
The good: great price, dog-friendly, location to town and beach. The bad: room decor, pool availability, flexible on moving rooms, not enough linens. When we first arrived, the receptionist was on the phone for about 10 minutes before she acknowledged that we were even there, and finally put the folks on hold she was talking to. She put us in a room directly behind the pool (which was closed and looked pretty jankey as the cover was half filled with water, and obstructed any view of the ocean we could have had.) When I had made reservations online, I was under the assumption we would be able to use the outdoor heated pool, with no mention that it was closed. When we arrived, it was closed and when we asked to move to a different room that wasn't right behind the pool, we were not allowed. The furniture in the room was depressing and felt empty-not cozy and comfy at all. The linens on the bed were very light and it was cold sleeping, even with heater on. Overall, it's a decent place to stay but I was hoping for a little bit nicer, more modern details like better furniture, blankets, rugs, etc. I also think they should advertise when the pool is open/closed.

Michael K.

Yelp
Had a great upstairs room with an unobstructed view of the ocean from our bed. It was great to listen to the waves crashing on the beach all night long. Sunset Surf Motel is centrally located to nearby eateries. Short walk up the street to the Farmers Market. I would stay here again when in town.

Shawn L.

Yelp
We had a confirmed booking through Expedia. Come to find out the motel cancelled it by mistake. I was offered a suite at an additional cost. I said "no". They put me in a none view room, which was my only choice. Kids running along the front balcony woke us each morning. Not the ideal weekend retreat.

Whitney K.

Yelp
Great hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, and fully stocked with dishes (nice surprise). The bed is comfy and everything works like it should. I'd give 5 stars if each building had its own ice maker...

Cammy S.

Yelp
We have never been to Manzanita, OR so we were very worried about how the room would be. Much to our surprise, it was very nice. Bed was comfortable and clean, you can see they have made updates as well. Pool closes at 10pm so we were unable to swim. No bottled water in the rooms so we had to drink sink water (no big deal). I enjoyed this place and will be back for sure!!!

Steve B.

Yelp
Stayed here over Thanksgiving 2019. Nice room #105 in the Budd House. Couch was uncomfortable, bed was decent. Had an Ocean view and it was nice, but next time I think I'll get a 2nd floor room. Shower water was hot then cold then too hot then too cold...older rooms are like that. Not a bad place....location, location, location. I'd stay here again because I've been to way worse....and they were theoretically nicer motel/hotels.

Reni B.

Yelp
The only thing this place has going for it is the view and location. It was fairly clean, but no decor or comfy chairs. It is extremely noisy! People smoke right in front of their rooms-right in front of signs that say no smoking-and the front desk does nothing about it. It would be nice if the bedding could move out of the 70's. There's no rug, no extra bedding and it's cold when the heat isn't on. There isn't enough parking for guests so if you leave to go somewhere, good luck finding a place to park. We had to park out on the street, on the other side of the motel from our room. There's one light in the entire room. The wall in the bathroom got extremely hot when the light or fan was on and the tv and lights flashed on and off- scared us! Was sure we would have a fire while there. I'm really sure there are better places to stay in this town. Look around.

Tracy R.

Yelp
I love staying here. Ocean view, short walk to everything, prices vary according to view and amenities (kitchen and bedroom options, pet friendly or not), so we can reserve what we need for each trip. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Sherry S.

Yelp
This year I did not have any holiday vacation.. In fact I am sure a lot of us did not due to it being in the middle of the week and all.. Who does that? I still wanted some sort of vacation feeling so off we went on a super sunny Saturday in the first week of January to Manzanita. I found a decent sized room, with a king sized bed, full kitchen (if needed) panoramic view right here for only 84.00 in total. They have a special right now since it is winter. This is a motel so I don't expect luxury and it's also not a "new" motel. They did some updating and you will see that in the bathroom as well as the rug in the front room. There's some newer furniture as well. They do have your typical tacky pictures on the walls, though they are not crusty old flower arrangement scenes. They also have this glass table in the middle of the room. That table can become invisible when you have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Thinking that that's not a good choice of furniture to be out in public. Just saying. All in all, it was warm, clean, great view. The staff were easy going. The wifi was fast. Bed could be a little better but then the price would go up and we know we don't like that right?

Chrisi B.

Yelp
Cheap, clean, and convenient. Dogs welcome. And, the closest you can get to the beachfront in Manzanita. Sunset Surf has multiple buildings and quite a few units, which is nice when you're traveling with friends. We had good customer service, including a simple online reservation process, a much appreciated reminder email that included the check in time, and speedy checkout. Parking was right outside our room, so an easy trip to and from the car. A friendly housekeeper helped me with the door key when I was loaded down with lattes from the nearby coffee shop. If you're looking for value and a place to crash for the night, a basic room here is just the ticket. Tip: Check in before you check in so you don't miss the Yelp deal! 15% off spring season rates right now.

Yelp
Just returned from Sunset Surf Motel this morning 10.14.16. I am happy to report that the tornado that touched down in Manzanita (about 200 yds away), was no match for the building. All was fine. A staff member brought a couple of battery powered 'candles' within minutes of the power going out and continued to check on how I was doing. The staff was alert, professional and friendly. I will look forward to returning the next time I seek a quiet and restful couple days.

Yelp
great views. very old furnishings (c. 1998?) in need of update. but for me, for now, the only things that matter are a) clean (it is) b) great location (it is) and c) great wifi (it isn't)... so i'll settle for 'so so wifi' (but it isn't) it's terrible wifi essentially you can't hole up here and work remotely at all. i'll have to leave tomorrow and find some place else. again, great for ocean views and a get away but not if you need to work a few hours each day as many of us now do.

Yelp
You can't beat the price for a oceanfront, 1 bedroom, full kitchen, balcony view room for under $100 on the Oregon Coast. PLUS, Manzanita is the coolest beach town in Oregon. No crowds, great shops and restaurants, and easy beach access. The hotel and beach are both dog friendly. There is even a pet boutique in town. Anyway, back to the hotel, it's old, a bit run down, construction workers cut my bedroom window out WHILE we were still in our room!! But really, it's a place to sleep, a view and a fireplace, awesome sunsets, incredible, laid back town, And this is the ONLY hotel on the beach. I'm still amazed at their low prices.

Yelp
Its across the street from the beach, the owners are very nice, the kids that were there behaved themselves, its not expensive, the people staying there weren't as old as every body else in Manzanita, the room was clean, its across the street from the beach.

Yelp
Not a very fun stay. Pros: Right on the beach. Remodeled bathroom. Kitchenette. Cons: The only window, next to the bed, opened to the stairwell which was less than private or quiet when sleeping. The whole room smelled like mildew REALLY bad. Beds and linens were horrible. We chose this motel because they had a pool but NO WHERE on the site did it say it's only open for a few months a year. We would've stayed somewhere else, despite still having to pay full price for our room, but everywhere else was booked.

Yelp
What a great find! Affordable hotel literally across the street from the beach. Our room was comfy and sparkling clean, and even from the ground floor we had a lovely ocean view. Manzanita's a rather small place, so the motel is walking distance to pretty much anything. The bed was a bit firm but we liked that, so we're good there....the pillows however were super flat, which I didn't realize until bed time and then didn't feel like bothering management for an additional pillow or two. My bad, I suppose, but something to watch for. Small nice touch: nightlight in the bathroom (as part of the hair dryer wall unit). Nice when you're in an unfamiliar room in the middle of the night and don't want to turn a bright light on.

Yelp
This was our first time in Manzanita. We were looking for a nice, quiet getaway for the night, and I'm so glad we stayed here. The room was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable, and we had a lovely view. The kitchenette was useful for a quiet dinner in the room, and it was awesome to be able to walk across the street and be at the beach! For the price and convenience, I think this place is a great value. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
My new hubby and I needed a place to take our 2 dogs as a small escape post wedding ceremony. We got it last minute, which was a plus, mid August, AND a place to take the doggies?! Yes please! Pros: Directly across from the beach Pet friendly Has a pool Cons: Needs severe updating for the price (we paid around $300 for 2 nights) Either our room was haunted by a ghost who smokes, or perhaps the cleaning crew smokes, or perhaps, there is smoke left behind on the walls and stuck in the carpet. Was overwhelming in the bathroom. Was great in a pinch and I'm grateful that we were able to get it, but for future, have learned to try and nab a separate property sooner.

Yelp
The room was clean. The staff was friendly. The heat worked (In January, you need the heater AND the fireplace) Otherwise, this is a motel that needs a face-lift. Older furnishings, hard to get hot water in the shower, very stingy with the towels. Cracked tiles all across the bottom of the fireplace hearth. We would have liked our room a lot better if we were upstairs, where it would not have a direct view in from every person who walks by, or if they put in sheers, so we could see out but still have a little privacy in our room.

Yelp
The general manager did contact me to explain the circumstances of the booking error and offer a refund for the night. Thank you for doing the right thing by your customers.

Yelp
I don't mean to give 3 stars, but I think it's more like 3.5 stars. I paid $78 (give or take some change) for one night at his motel. It's an amazing location, literally footsteps from the beach. We (mom, sister and myself) had the bottom floor ocean view. The beds were firm, but surprisingly they ended up being pretty comfy to sleep in. No cable TV, but a DVD player and the TV was a Samsung 32", which was great because we watched a few movies when we called it a night. Bathroom was re-done, and the room, although it had the whole 70's thing goin' on, was VERY clean and basic. The woman at the front desk had a sweet demeanor and I liked her. I'd stay here again, but I'd stay in a different room, I think...or at least get an upstairs room because you can hear pretty much everything from your upstairs neighbors, including and especially the shower. Great little place.
