We love staying at the Sunshine Inn for its value, cleanliness, and friendly staff! We enjoy simple motels/hotels that offer clean rooms and don't charge an arm and a leg for it, as we don't want to spend our entire vacation budget on lodging. John and Deanna are kind, courteous, and very knowledgable about the area, providing great recommendations of things to do, places to eat, etc. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's nothing fancy, but you will be well cared for and treated right.||I always bring my own toiletries but my room had trial-sized bottles of organic toiletries, which I really appreciate, as I am striving to reduce my toxic load. I travel with my own hair dryer, but they have them available to borrow; just ask. The beds do not have bedspreads currently but I slept comfortably with the bedding provided and did not get cold. I actually preferred not having a comforter/bedspread as I always wonder how frequently motels/hotels clean them, and I know blankets are regularly washed. As several reviewers mentioned, the beds have flat sheets which admittedly is not my preference as they don't stay in place as well, however this did not create any issues for me. The bottom sheet got looser after a few nights but did not come out of place and did not expose the mattress, so it was just a minor inconvenience. Coffee, juice, and snacks are provided for breakfast; while I don't eat the types of foods offered, I brought my own protein bars, fruit, and made instant oatmeal with the hot water provided, then visited the restaurants in town for a protein-dense breakfast. ||I mention these things to help with expectations. It truly is a simple motel, but the value and service provided make it worth it. Last year we spent at least $60 more per night at a hotel in Rapid City and breakfast wasn't even included! I would MUCH rather spend less of my vacation budget on lodging to be able to spend more on experiences, local restaurants, souvenirs, etc. Sunshine Inn is definitely our go-to place when we are in the area.

Google
Great place to stay, clean & tidy, good rates and very accommodating, close to everything in town. I'm an Aussie doing a 3 month road trip, I last stayed here in 2010 when I met John the owner who is Vietnam Vet and a real nice guy. Great to see John was still there looking after the place that he opened in 1978. 💪👏

Google
Excellent little hotel with great rooms, and very clean, and wonderful staff. Even a continental breakfast. My husband and I are from Canada and we were exploring South Dakota by motorcycle. We came to check out Wall and spent quite a bit of time in town. We were heading to the Badlands loop and as it was getting later we decided to spend the night. We phoned a few places and found this little gem that had a vacancy. Deanna greeted us at the front and she was so friendly and showed us our room. We were so glad to stay here, and appreciated her friendliness and warm welcome. She is so wonderful! I would recommend this hotel 100% to anyone travelling to this area. We would definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.

Google
Loved it! Great location, lovely owner, very comfortable room. Ended up staying three nights instead of one as ideal location and felt so welcome. Great start to our road trip through South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Recommendation for Rocket Motel in Custer was spot on!

Google
I have stayed here a couple of times now and it’s one of the cleanest places I have stayed. It’s very quiet and relaxing. The owner is one of the nicest people I have met. Great location within walking distance of Wall Drug. I have stayed at a lot of hotels and this is one of the best. Would highly recommend.

Google
I stayed at the Sunshine Inn for two nights in early July while exploring Badlands National Park.||This is a small, cozy little motel within walking distance of Wall Drug and all of the other touristy shops. When I say walking distance, I mean about one block! Maybe even a half-block. The Pinnacles Entrance to Badlands National Park is just a few miles away. ||My room was small, but SUPER clean and the bed was SO comfortable. I slept very well on both nights!||Unfortunately, I did not get to meet the owner, but I talked to him on the phone once or twice as I was finalizing my plans. He is a veteran and has owned the motel for years. He does offer Veteran discounts. The Manager, Deanna and the lady that checked me in Laurie, were as just as nice as anyone you would ever want to meet!||I am eager to stay again!||My only regret is that the TV sets were kind of small by today's standards.

Google
I've been staying at the Sunshine Inn since I was a little kid as my mom grew up in Wall. I stayed here over the weekend for the first time in decades, and it's the same pleasant experience I remember having as a kid. John, the owner, is a nice guy and made sure we were taken care of. ||Know up front: It's not the Ritz. And you're not paying for the Ritz either. They keep things really simple, and that's a good thing. Plus, you're only a 2-minute walk from Wall Drug and a bunch of eating places. If you're staying in Wall, and all you need are the basics like a bed, shower and bathroom for something like a Badlands hiking trip, you can't really go wrong with the Sunshine Inn.

JIM M

Google
My wife and I have been stopping here for over 10 years at least once a year. Extremely clean and the owners are very nice and helpful. Best motel stay consistently. Really enjoy our stay every time. You can't go wrong staying here. By far the best value in Wall.

Rodney S.

Yelp
You can't beat the location. If you came to spend quality time in Wall Drugs or day hikes in the Bad Lands, this is the place! Super friendly Vet Owner Manager. At $89/night Seniiors /AAA rate it's nice on the wallet too.....

Deanna S.

Yelp
This is a nice spot to lay your head. It was clean and comfortable and everything we needed. DeAnna at the front desk was kind and welcoming. I'd definitely stay again!! Two thumgs up!!

Marcia K.

Yelp
Clean. Comfy beds. Quiet. Very friendly and knowledgeable owner, great guy. Just be aware no fridge, microwave, or in-room coffee. Excellent value!

Ohhh Y.

Yelp
Clean motel. Great service. Comfortable room. Great location in Wall- can walk to everything. Very limited bfast service.

Casey S.

Yelp
Stayed here on short notice while on family road trip. Called about a room at 8:30ish at night. Got checked in and got a great nights rest. Discovered a couple of issues while there, and the management went WAY above and beyond to make sure we were happy, as well as addressing it with employees to make sure it didn't happen to another guest. We could not be happier with the service we got here!

Lisa S.

Yelp
The people are so friendly. The room was very clean and quiet. When we checkef in they gave us a 25% coupon for breakfast the next morning, and 2 free drink tickets. It's walking distance to Wall Drugs and the town area. If we are ever out this way again we will stay here again.

Marci K.

Yelp
Stayed there 2 years ago, and my daughters and I still talk about our stay there! While other hotels were charging $400 a night, they charged less than $100. We got in very late, owner came and carried our luggage to our room and made sure we were in our room before turning in himself. 6 week trip, and this is the only hotel we still talk about. Not much for breakfast, but price for hotel more than made up for it! Would stay there again and again.

Tim S.

Yelp
Spotlessly clean, convenient and quiet location, and everything works-if you are traveling to Badlands, this is a great base and a great place to stay. And really enjoyed the beautiful flowers, blooming even into the second week of October.

Corbin S.

Yelp
The sunshine inn is a cozy little motel on the edge of Wall Drug. It gives the "your grandparents house" warm vibe that makes you feel comfortable and sleep well. The room is clean and full of the essentials. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. It seems like it fills up fast because we got the last room available around 5 pm.

Ellen C.

Yelp
I booked this hotel because it is very close to the 240 freeway. Also my call kept on dropping when I wanted to reserve this hotel as we were driving here, but John was persistent and called me back on the phone. I reserved it because it was such a great deal (at the time, on a weekday, it was about $59). It was a much better rate than the other hotels, especially ones that are chains. It's a small hotel but I like the fact that I don't need to take any elevators or go through a long hallway to get to my room. The rooms are right outside the parking lot. John got it right with setting the room temperature to a very comfortable good nights sleep, as well as the linens and blankets he chose for the bed. Free wifi, and free pastries/coffee in the morning. Breakfast starts at 7AM. A no frills hotel, but very clean and simple. MUCH better than staying at a Motel 6.

John M.

Yelp
Our group of CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) were on our way to Gillette Wyoming for National Rally at the Camplex, we had reservations in Wall S.D at the Sunrise Inn motel. Very nice place to stay and the owner was very helpful. Motel very clean would definitely stay again when in the area. He is also a veteran MC. OoooRahh

Jim K.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. Very warm, nice owner who's incredibly helpful. Not fancy but good value for the money. In walking distance of Wall Drug and area restaurants too. If we pass through here again, we will definitely rebook here

Denny B.

Yelp
Simple, plain motel in the middle of town away from the interstate and the other "discount" hotels/motels. Firm beds, clean rooms, very quiet, nice SoCal man owns it. Rolls, coffee and juice in the morning. One block from Wall Drug. Very good value for a $50 room. Trip Advisor had almost 100 positive reviews of this place. Owner, John, is a Vietnam Veteran who was born and raised in SoCal. UCLA graduate. Great guy.

Laura H.

Yelp
Courteous personnel and priced way below the nearby options. The room is clean, spacious, quiet air conditioner that's also nice and cool. Bed is super comfy and the bathroom is newly updated. TV is new and clear reception and the wi-fi is perfect. Can't beat the price! The Badlands eastern most entrance (on 90W) is 5 miles south!

Matt H.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Surprising cheap price for just a block from Wall Drug !! Will stay at the Sunshine Inn every time !!

Lillie J.

Yelp
Last minute rest over night forced me to look at Yelp for the nearest hidden gem. Based on reviews I chose Sunshine Inn. This is a classic oldie but a goodie. If you are looking for five star resort style amenities in Wall #1 good luck #2 don't even think of giving this place anything less than they deserve which is five stars. This humble Inn delivers nothing short of excellence in customer service, Deanna is delightful and took time to answer our questions with a smile. (We are accustomed to staying in five star resorts by the way). For the fair price, you get a clean room and extremely friendly service. The term "you get what you pay for" should be considered when rating this Inn. We certainly got what we paid for and much more than expected.

Trisha G.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel a few times while traveling thru the past couple years. Called a month inadvance for a reservation. On the website it says ask for the senior rate at check in. So I did. The front desk lady told me I already have the senior rate!! Why did you give it to me before I asked or before you knew I was a senior? If your not gonna honor a senior rate, take it off your website. Front desk doesn't open until 7am. Which means no ice for your cooler or breakfast!. I'll pass on this hotel next time.

Bill G.

Yelp
Great stop for our Club the week before Sturgis. The owner really catered to our needs. We hope to be back. Rush, LHR

Nolan F.

Yelp
It was the perfect stop for the night, had everything we needed for 2 of us to sleep, shower and get some coffee in the morning. It was very clean and the staff was incredibly nice and accommodating!

Kristin M.

Yelp
John and staff are the best! My family has stayed here many times over the years at various times and for different reasons. It is always clean, comfortable and very affordable. Recently we stayed again on the way to the Black Hills and also on the way back. We had four rooms the first night and two on the way back. John always remembers our names and is friendly and helpful. A great place to stay!

Jason B.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Clean rooms, friendly staff, lowest price around, convient location.

Steve B.

Yelp
All Goods, no Bads. I think the owner checked us in. She was very friendly and courteous. Clean rooms downtown within short walk to all shops and Wall Drugs which was cool to walk through for a first timers like us. Directly across the street from Badlands Harley so is handy if you want to overpay for a T shirt like the Misses and I do on a regular basis. Wall is a kick off point to the Badlands so staying here and getting to experience this little town is worth the miles. Would recommend the Sunshine Motel to all that pass through this great little SD town.

Adriaan T.

Yelp
Had a really nice stay at the Sunshine Inn. Friendly owners, super clean and comfortable rooms all in walking distance to Wall Drug, 25 mins from Badlands. Will def stay again when back in South Dakota.

Rich F.

Yelp
It was an accident I stopped here but it was PERFECT! Very friendly staff, VERY clean room and roomy! Thanks for an excellent rest!

Michael R.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel for the price. Clean, comfortable, and staff is very nice. Good location for several area sights too

Judy M.

Yelp
We stayed at the Sunshine Inn as a jumping off point for a hiking trip to the Badlands on 08/26/14. This little motel was clean, quiet, and affordable (which is all we need when we're passing through). The motel is a little "bare bones," but perfectly acceptable for our needs. It's a privately owned motel and the owner is also the manager (I think). Either way, the gentleman that attended us on arrival was very friendly, attentive and concerned with his customer's comfort. There aren't any vending or ice machines accessible to the guests but these things are available in the office if you need them. It was just what we needed and we would definitely stay here again.

John A.

Yelp
As no frill classic motels go the Sunshine Inn in Wall, South Dakota, is as good as it gets. The rooms are what you would expect, clean, well maintained and very reasonably priced. John, the proprietor, and his staff are what makes the Sunshine Inn great. Will be returning for many years hopefully.

Theresa W.

Yelp
Sunshine Inn is in a prime location for walking around Wall. The rooms are a little "old school" but neatly and cleanly kept. The lady running the front desk was VERY helpful: ice for coolers, iron and ironing board. I would recommend you stepping out of your comfort zone and giving them a try. I mean that in the nicest way. I am spoiled to big chain motel/hotels, so I can say that I stepped out of my comfort zone. I truly enjoyed our stay.

Michele D.

Yelp
This is one of those places that I hesitate to Yelp about because I kind of want to keep it my little secret so they aren't full when I get there again. This place is great! The owner was really, really nice. We had a cabin room, which was very quiet and very clean. In fact, I'm not sure that I have ever been in a hotel room that was more clean than this one. Sure, the place has older furnishings, but it was super clean and for $44/night, it was awesome! It is located just a few steps from Wall Drug, which was great, too. When we are back in the area, I'm sure we will stay here again.

Cory B.

Yelp
We stayed here in the "off" season, the owner was nice enough to get a room for us although we hadn't made a reservation. Very clean, very comfy. Walking distance from Wall Drug and a small restaurant. I even had my big dog with us and he was more than welcomed! Cheaper than nearby options, close to the Badlands, and definitely worth the stay.

Phil M.

Yelp
It's 1/2 block from Wall Drugs and the fact that it is older and locally owned is outweighed by the fact that is is clean and only cost $75. Owner was very pleasant and I was tired after driving all the from Wisconsin today. This all dramatically made it better.

Bean B.

Yelp
Simple, quite dated but clean. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. There aren't many great options in this area. In South Dakota, when you get away from Sioux Falls or Rapid City, the middle of the state by way of I-90 is full of run down diners and hotels/motels with terrible coffee shops! A young entrepreneur should set up a local coffee shop by I -90 mid-state. Enough with the 5cent coffee! Give me something bold and it'd be great to have a soy creamer option!

Jon F.

Yelp
clean fresh smelling comfortable every thing you need low price too boot. one half block from WallDrug.

Don P.

Yelp
The owner John was just plain awesome and helpful. Though this hotel is simple with no microwave in room or fridge, the beds were very comfortable and the price was great for the area. If you needed ice or anything heated in a microwave John took care of it for you. I highly recommend the Sunshine Inn for a basic room with comfy beds and when you just need a good nights rest.

Lisa S.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Sunshine. We were traveling two adults and two kids on July 29, 2011. We pulled in about midnight where the owner was up and waiting for us, worried we had been in an accident. I don't know anywhere else where the owner would do that. Our room was very clean and not too dated. The beds were comfortable and we had enough pillows for everyone without bringing our own in. Breakfast was orange juice and a honey bun. Simple but perfect for us. We hated to leave but will definitely stay again. It is close to everything in Wall and is a great stopping point for the Badlands too. Two queen beds for one night cost us $74.00 with tax and fees. Thank you Sunshine Inn!

Kathy B.

Yelp
No frills, but the cleanest place for the best price we've ever stayed at. Very clean linens, bathroom and nice towels. No musty smell and very quiet. The air conditioner actually worked as it should and wasn't too loud. On top of that, right at the end of Main St so you can walk to everything Wall has to offer!

Herman S.

Yelp
I rated this a 4 instead of a 3 and here's why. First if you're looking for a over night stay or a couple of days then this is the place. With the discount my wife and I paid $50.00 a night staying for two nights. Now here's what you don't get. No flat screen tv, no microwave nor refrigerator, coffee poor, etc, in the room,,,, but the owner John will offer everything he has. If you have cold food that needs to go into the refrig give it to him and he'll put it in the one in the office. He'll even offer to fill your ice chest for you, it's also in the office. I was very impressed the next morning when we walked by and he addressed us by our last name. If you're looking to visit the Wall Drug Store this is in walking distance. I've only stay in two places with blazing high speed internet and this is one of them. Why not rate a 5, the bed only had one pillow per person when ch I'm pretty sure John would have given us a extra but I shouldn't have to ask. Flat screens is a must these days. But if you want a small room not a lot of money stay here.

Maddy B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I needed a place to stay for a night, so we chose the Sunshine Inn. We didn't make a reservation and were lucky that there was a vacancy. We took the only type of room available, which was a room with two full sized beds. There was a T.V. in the room, but no fridge or microwave (which was a bit disappointing). The bed wasn't the most comfy thing ever. The wifi worked pretty well. A nice bonus is that they provide coffee, juice, and pre-packaged pastries.

John B.

Yelp
This is a great little hotel just a block away from Wall Drug and several restaurants. The owner is super-friendly and very accommodating. Prices are very reasonable and the beds are quite comfortable. This place is way better than any of the chain hotels. You will be impressed!

Jo Ann B.

Yelp
The owner was very nice and friendly. He recommended a great restaurant for us to enjoy, which we found to be a great pick. The rooms are clean, but very basic. Not our usual type of hotel. Unfortunately, we didn't stay due to racial discrimination at a local bar. The owner, john was very polite and understanding when we decided to abruptly leave.

Faith M.

Yelp
So we are currently staying here. We pulled into Wall around 8:30pm because we wanted to go to Wall Drug. After we ate it started to started to storm pretty bad so we decided to look into lodging instead of camping. After talking to two other places, I called the Sunshine in. The owner not only had a room but he allowed us to have two dogs, instead of just one, which was the policy of the hotel. Now, this is not a four star hotel it is a quaint, clean little motel, If you're hoity toity then you would probably scoff at the idea of this place but it was exactly what we needed. Our room was clean and comfortable and he gave it to us for 42 dollars with tax. I really appreciated the hospitality and the owner provided us with amazing customer service. Thank you Sunshine Inn!

Kaitlin H.

Yelp
Wow! What a great experience. Spotless rooms, reasonable rates, and warm hospitality. Owned and operated by a lovely man named John who truly cares about his business and customers. Much better than staying at a chain hotel.

Debbie K.

Yelp
Exceptionally clean, comfy beds, friendly and accomodating owners. It's a no frills hotel, but what it lacks in frills it makes up for in all the important ways for a good night's rest while traveling. If you're looking for value for your dollar then this is the place when in Wall.

Darren H.

Yelp
Hotels a nice place it's clean good location right in town you can go see all the sights. Great water, pressure is excellent. Hot water is excellent when travelling. Has a light packaged breakfast just donuts and coffee and juice enough to get going.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Stopped at the Sunshine on our way back to Wisconsin. Was very pleased.Great value for a reasonable price. Owner was extremely gracious as well. Give it a try, I think you'll like it! Jeff

Beth T.

Yelp
This is the cleanest place I've ever stayed in! Nothing fancy; there's a small tv, table and chairs, big beds, simple bathroom (they have the softest bath towels, BTW!) but the cleanliness is worth more than anything else! The friendly staff/owners are delightful and helpful. Great location close to everything in Wall.

J W.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the outside but has nice rooms especially for the price. Towel from the last guest was left on the back of the bathroom door. Wifi didn't work.

Fran O.

Yelp
We were just passing through town and picked this place randomly. John ( the owner and front desk guy) was the best. Good for great conversation and provided a nice clean place to stay. We hated to leave.

Heather B.

Yelp
Basic and noisy, but clean and cheap. The rooms are small and have just the very basic of amenities. Our room had 2 beds, a very small table & 2 chairs, a dresser, and a small tv. But there is not a clock, nor a coffee maker in the room. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear the slightest noise in the next room or outside. However, the room was very clean and for the price I really can't complain. If you are looking for a cheap place to lay you head for the night this isn't a bad choice. If you want more amenities, you may want to pay more for something a bit more luxurious. Bonus - it is just across from the famous Wall Drug and it comes with a complementary breakfast of coffee, oj and pastries.
