Sunstar Hotel Grindelwald

We went to the bar and Margarida served us there. It was our first time trying European cocktails and we loved it! My friend and I really enjoyed She was very nice and honest about the flavors, which made the experience even better. Thank you!

I had a great experience. The hotel is very well located, close to all amenities and right in front of the cable cars taking you to the ski slopes. The rooms are clean and very well lit (unlike some where you can't even read). They felt warm and cozy. Also love the fact that you don't need to put your key card in the slot to have light in your room. The only thing missing was extra pillows. The indoor pool is wonderful and has a fantastic view of the snowy mountains, absolutely breathtaking. They have 2 dining rooms, a buffet and a formal dining. You can have a tasty breakfast in the buffet room. The staff were all very nice and friendly. Special thanks to Kitti the barmaid, waitresses Margarida, Barbara, Mara and Carolina, who served us dinner on Christmas eve and Christmas day, wonderful girls. Thank you also to Luís and Daniel for the wonderful breakfast service and Lillie and Dot (apologies I don't know how to spell it) at the front desk. I absolutely recommend this hotel. Although a bit expensive. I will definitely stay there again. Also Grindelwald is a beautiful town, very typical. Top marks.

My son brought me on a surprise holiday to Switzerland and chose this absolutely beautiful hotel. The hotel, staff, services and cleanliness were very good. I’d like to say an extra thank you to Alan who was working in the lounge area at the bar. Alan was very polite and hospitable to all the guests he had approached. We connected to Alan as if you would to a good friend. Thank you to all the staff, we’ll definitely visit again

The hotel itself is pretty old and stinks a little bit. Service is very good. The pool has a lot of potential if renovated:). Right now it reminds me of a retirement place. 20 CHF/day for parking is pretty expansive. Breakfast was very good. View is amazing.

This hotel was perfect. A stunning location in Grindelwald. We had a room that overlooked the mountains so waking up to that view was a dream. The room was a perfect size and there was a lovely big bath. We were provided with robes which we could use at the spa. It’s a bit expensive but the value for money was worth it. It was clean and the staff at the front desk were lovely and helpful.

I have stayed at the Sunstar five or six times across as many years, and at maybe a dozen other places in turn. Sunstar is my favorite. The current bartender, Allen, makes absolutely boss drinks and will light up your day.

We just went to the hotel bar for some drinks and had a really nice time. Good drinks, comfortable place, breathtaking mountain views, and the staff were super friendly, especially Margarita, working at the bar, who was so sweet and welcoming. We definitely recommend stopping by for a drink. Great place to relax.

We stayed here for 4 nights. We were very pleased with the hotel, which has great amenities, on site restaurant, spa, gym, and an indoor swimming pool. The hotel and room was very clean and housekeeping took good care of the room during our stay. We had a spa date and enjoyed this service greatly after a long day of hiking. At night time there is lots to do without leaving the hotel as their bar stays open until late and they have so many seats where one can sit and enjoy a night cap. Walking distance from the lift up to Grindewald first & within a few steps to lots of eateries!

We had a nice stay at the hotel and enjoyed their services. The front desk was helpful and accommodating. The hotel is well maintain and kept clean. The location is very central and everything is easily accessible. The hotel provides services of picking and dropping from the train station. They picked us up and dropped us off at the train station. Breakfast was included in our reservations and they have nice buffet style breakfast with lots of great options . The swimming pool is nice to enjoy as a family. They also have a kids play area. Loved their outdoor patio with the beautiful views. I am taking two stars off because the housekeeping never took the towels that I kept on the floor to be taken away and replaced. Instead of replacing the towels that were on the shower floor, they folded the wet towels and put them back for us to use instead of giving us new ones. Also, their hotel restaurant adlerstube - has really bad service. The blond lady is extremely rude, they kept us waiting to order for a really long time. Finally food arrived and it was really good but again no one came to check if we needed anything. Also the check never arrived , finally waiting for a good 20 minutes I went up to ask to pay. Food was good but because of the service it ruins the whole experience . The hotel needs to be mindful of this and make sure they are looking into it.

Got here and was deviated because everything was closed !!!! It was just 9:30 pm. Checked in at the sun star hotel and went to the bar ..asked to see what was open around the area. Eduardo and Alan were soooo kind helpful ! They made me a pizza!!!! And it was after every single restaurant had been closed for over an hour!!!!!! If you travel here. Check out the bar and ask for them ! I don't usually leave reviews but they did deserve my time !!! Highly recommended!!!!

An exceptional experience. The ambiance, customer service, quality and dining far exceeded our expectations and we look forward to staying at Sunstar, Grindelwald again. We purchased the Christmas package and stayed for four nights. It included a real Christmas tree in our room, meals, and an evening walk (torches and all with the hotel Operations Managers) to an authentic Suisse mountain cabin for drinks and appetizers. DINING: The hotel has two restaurants. One is buffet style and open for breakfast and dinner. The other restaurant is by reservation and has a cozy Swiss charm to it where we enjoyed a great fondue dinner. We expected to branch out and eat at another restaurant in town at least once, but the food at Sunstar was so good, we never ventured out. The Chef took great care in creating traditional Swiss and German dishes such as the traditional Swiss Christmas dinner of oil fondue when we dined Christmas Eve. The presentation was elegant with great variety. My family of meat eaters, vegetarians and pasta lovers were all satisfied. One can eat very healthy or indulge in gourmet creations from duck to spaetzle. Service was excellent. ROOMS: Our adult children stayed in the newly renovated rooms which were sleek and contemporary. Their headboards were backlit and shaped in the form of the Alps. We stayed on the other side of the hotel in the more traditional rooms which had a Swiss mountain charm which we really liked. It felt authentic and we were glad we paid extra for the suite which had a nice sitting area. Bathroom was huge and clean. We paid extra for the mountain views for both rooms and was worth every cent. It was incredible to wake up looking directly at the Alps - breathtaking. STAFF, MANAGEMENT & FRONT DESK: The new Operations Managers clearly have a five star luxury background and high standards. They are constantly seen throughout the hotel talking to guests making one feel welcomed, at home and very well cared for. They were always at the restaurant in the morning and evening greeting guests with a warm and genuine smile and conversation. We had drinks by the fire in the main lobby and played card games every night. Families opened their Christmas gifts in the lobby as well. The space is so huge and inviting with many little nooks to cozy up in that a lot of guests took advantage of the space. The bartenders were very attentive with drinks and snacks. We always had a lot of questions and the front desk was very gracious and helpful. I used the spa for a massage and the experience was excellent. Environment was calming and elegant. LOCATION: You can walk from the train station but we took a shuttle because of all our luggage. The location is great and you can easily walk to town. Lastly, we would like to mention some exceptional staff and say a special thank you for making our stay so wonderful: John Hewitt and Lukas, our waiters, Adrian Bolsmann, the head chef, Marius, at check in and the Operations Managers Cornelia and Marsell who were instrumental in our amazing experience. Thank you!!!!

The view from our room was jaw dropping. It was updated and clean. The front desk Leonardo and Sarah were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. The dinner at Alderstrube was not very good. The staff was very nice but the food was not great. The spa area and pool was ok. The view from the pool and patio area is lovely. Thank you. I would recommend highly. Gorgeous once in a life time experience.

First time in Grindelwald. Had a company meeting here for the week. I was very pleased with the location, services, food, and the room. Their breakfast buffet was great with several excellent choices of cheese. The service staff during break sessions and restaurant staff were friendly and professional. Excellent place for a vacation.

My sister and her husband were on the final part of a long European vacation, the last 10 days being spent in Grindelwald. They have visited this area several times in the past and have always enjoyed staying at The Sunstar Alpine Hotel. I saw an opportunity to surprise them upon their arrival and contacted the staff at the hotel asking for their help in preparing a box of local chocolates and a greeting card for the weary travelers. Jörg promptly replied to my email and was extremely helpful in planning the surprise. I am very thankful for his help, and the help of the hotel staff. This is what customer service is all about, people helping people.

Excellent hotel in the village centre of Grindelwald in front of the First cable car. Great service, clean, good facilities. We enjoyed a nice 5-course meal for only 48 CHF in the hotel. Great value for money - especially in Switzerland. ;) the service in the restaurant was superb. The size of the room however was quite small for the price of the room. Also, there were very few electricity outlets in the room. Not easy if you have several devices to recharge. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Worth staying at!!
