Super Foodtown

I genuinely don’t understand this store’s business model. Do they get kickbacks for carrying an absurd number of brands? Because instead of keeping basics fresh and in stock, they somehow manage to have 19,382 types of plant milk while the actual food is expired or rotting. There is constantly bad produce and expired canned items on the shelves. I’ve bought expired cocktail sauce here among other items. That should never happen, but it does - and all the time. Focus on keeping food fresh before dedicating entire aisles to redundant options. It’s also wildly overpriced for what it is, and the store always smells putrid-I think from the butcher or fish department. Long checkout lines because they’re maximizing profit while giving shoppers the bare minimum in return. Stop padding shelves with endless brand variation and focus on maintaining quality. Fresh food should be the priority in a grocery store. Unfortunately, it’s the closest option to me. I hate shopping here. My local Foodtown upstate is exactly the same: overpriced, poorly maintained, and somehow both overstocked and underwhelming at the same time. So clearly this is a Foodtown issue

Large grocery store with a good selection of products. Sale items are good prices. Produce section is large but prices and quality vary. Fish selection is good at best. Meat section is large but pricey. Staples are reasonably priced.

It's a big grocery store,lots of items . I'm from Albany NY. This is more expensive then Walmarts . Organic eggs are 2 to three dollars more for instance. They have good deals though . They offer membership for more offers.

PLEASE NOTE: They close before 11pm. If listed otherwise, please ignore. It’s a COMPLETE LIE. I arrived here 7 mins before closing and was turned away. The security kept me outside and management was incompetent and insistent on not doing their job. The manager and security were impossible. (As I had family to feed) The manager, Carlos, was insistent on closing before 11PM. I’ve lived here for years and never had a problem. (All pictures were taken before 11 pm) The last 2 pictures are of the manager letting a male client in after 11.

It's a "super " market and they live up to their name. They carry International foods, ethnic diversity in their staff and the store is always kept clean and orderly. The staff are helpful if you need help finding an item. They have a rewards program. A really great produce section, cheeses from all over. It's a great place to get groceries and a host of other things like, plants and beautiful flowers.

Tolerable prices. Occasional good deal. Nothing to get overly excited for if you have another store closer by unless there's a sale ongoing.

I know this supermarket for years even when I lived on Pacific street , but the day before the big storm it was not that crowded and it was easy for me to shop

, you will have to pay attention to the expiration date of some product, I have occasionally returned some product that has expired , I only do my shopping in the store only when I am in a hurry because the prices are a little higher ,

Back in 2018, when I stayed in BedStuy, I was half a block from this store. It was also on the way home from the train after work when I took the express. Prices not bad, sales are helpful. Awesome selection of vegan regular items, like 'cheese', most in the produce section. Produce is on hit, BEYOND FRESH! They had the BEST hot food buffet with 3 kinds of fish/seafood, vegetables, mac 'n' cheese and a couple other sides. I would stop by before work and get my meals for 2 days in one shot. The fish grilled to perfection, and not at all fishy weird or funky at all. There were times they would have the mac'n'cheese out and fresh as early as 9am! Cashiers are cool and friendly! The variety and selection is so vast it's ridiculous! And one last mention? The music they play !

Great to have this upscale Super Market in my neighborhood! It is important to have good quality food available. The location is great!

Sale prices are not posted on items in store. The circular will have the sale, but the item is marked a totally different price. Manager is very unfriendly.

This is truly my favorite supermarket in all of Brooklyn. Yesterday, after being forced to leave a restaurant for having awful conditions, I made my way to Super Foodtown to buy a few groceries. I love it there. As I browsed the aisles for goodies, Tina Turner was rolling on the satellite radio river and stock workers were making sure that shelves were full and neat. A young cashier alerted me that I had enough points to get my whole rotisserie chicken for free and that if I played my points right, probably a full bag of groceries free of charge. Super Foodtown's attentive staff, great music, fresh foods and the best deli area for miles, make food shopping a really pleasant experience. I do miss the Chester Fried Chicken station that was at the back of the store years ago but you can't have everything.

Why are random, multiple, people from Foodtown calling customers and threatening to cancel their delivery orders if the customers don't email them their ID cards??? These random people calling the customers are acting like they're trying to steal the customers identification. They have the customers credit card information and now they want to KEEP a copy of the customers ID in their email system. SINCE WHEN DO FOODTOWN KEEP STORED COPIES OF CUSTOMERS IDENTIFICATION IN THEIR EMAIL SYSTEM????? Like they're trying to steal the customers identification!!

I wish the lottery machine could stay on when its big money wins in Mega and Powerball games

I really like this supermarket and shop all the time at this location especially. It is always very clean there is a variety of options to purchase. I feel like the sushi section is pretty good. I actually got this shrimp tempura and it was really good. Spoke to the sushi chef on the way out and told me that he usually makes them fresh everyday.

I give this Foodtown a lot of credit. I live two blocks away and I've been in the neighborhood for over ten year, that's not really a lot of time but considering the transformation Brooklyn / Fulton street is undergoing, I'm glad to see the community supermarket is evolving as well. I love the convenience of being able to literally just cross the street and get the items I need. Sadly, one of the critiques that I have is shopping speed. In other words, the time it takes to pick up a few item and get out to me is longer then it needs to be. The staff for the most part is friendly and the store is usually clean but checkout is unnecessarily slow. I can't quite put my finger on it but checking out even on the express line is a drag. Again, I like my supermarket and like I said, the staff is great but I wish more could be done to speed the checkout process.

I am a frequent shopper at the Brooklyn Super Foodtown. I wish I could do this rating in sections. So here goes First - Products The selection is above average especially for a non specialty or non gourmet market. Usually there are also competitive products and pricing within the stores inventory Second - Service There is a distinct lack of service personnel in the market to help customers Third - Checkout The checkout personnel are overwhelmingly professional and amiable. Unfortunately a new policy has driven me to this upcoming criticism. This policy directs cashiers not to bag purchases of customers who supply their own bags, which 90% of the time are bags purchased from prior Super Foodtown trips. First off I as the customer am not part of your labor force. This is like me making a purchase from Amazon and having to go to the warehouse and box it myself or going to any other retail store and bagging my own purchases. Second your cashiers are forbidden from providing "free" bags to customers. This policy is egregious and capricious if the first policy is in place. Let me say this again - 'I am not part of your labor force, either permanent or temporary'.

I found myself on a mission. This mission took me all over Brooklyn, store to store, with one objective. Locate Canadian Dry Mandarin Orange Seltzer. It's my favorite drink and I couldn't find it at Stop & Shop; my normal go to for my shopping needs in Brooklyn. I went to three other stores and almost gave up hope, when I was recommended by a friend to try "Super Foodtown of Bedford Stuyvesant." This was my last hope for my refreshing reward. When I saw the place I was impressed by its size. It was a nice modern looking store that had everything. However it inside was another story. Don't get me wrong, it was as beautiful inside as it was outside, but it wasn't really neatly kept. Boxes and items were everywhere, not opened yet. I made my way to the soda aisle and prayed to see my seltzer. Long and behold! They had it! But I had to just move a few boxes out of the way to get some. I had to be careful not to knock the boxes in my way over, because they were not stacked properly. Once moved nothing stopped my from my prize. I noticed there wasn't any prices available, but I'm use to paying around eight dollars or so for two cases. At the register I almost asked was there a mistake, when they charged me fifteen dollars for two. There was no mistake, they are just overpriced. I paid because the line was long and honestly I was to embarrassed to take it off. But trust me, it's a beautiful store, but it's definitely a one time visit. Next time I goto Stop & Shop I will settle for Mixed Berry Seltzer.

'A' for improvement and the efforts in doing so go to good 'ol Super Foodtown! Been going here more often the past few years and sometimes I choose it even over Trader Joes. They often have good sales on various items, and have stepped up their game on the organic items, though mostly because of Bed-stuy's gentrification - the rest of us just went to the local health food stores for those items in the past. Nonetheless, I dig that the options are there and so varied now. The new layout (a few months old at this point) is still sort of confusing, but is definitely better organized. Some of the produce here is over-priced, and at times not as good as it could be, but more often than not its pretty dang good. Bought a bag of apples almost two weeks ago and just ate the last one today - so that's great! I never use the deli or hot food section, but do sometimes buy their bakery items, which are 'supermarket' on-point. I do get annoyed at times that some of the workers are concentrating so hard on re-stocking that they're not cognizant that shoppers are trying to, well, shop. But this doesn't occur too too often, but enough for me to comment on it. Five years ago I'd never give this place four stars, now I'm finding it hard to not give it the fifth.

I liked the convenient location, good selection and R&B tunes that make me want to stop by and work out each afternoon. However, outside of the store is plagued by aggressive hustlers, who insist on being hired to carry your bags. This is a service I do not need. If you say no, they become verbally abusive, especially if you are female. This is one thing that makes me think twice about coming to this store. The management should tell them that they can canvass shoppers, but only if they want to "hire" them. I have the right to say no and not to be harassed. An atmosphere like this can cause your customers to go elsewhere.

I've been coming to this store for years. They've cleaned it up a bit because it was a horrible mess at one point. Today, I was sold bad chicken. Before I left the store, I told the head cashier and she acted a damn fool. She asked several other cashiers to smell the meat as if I can't smell bad food. Several other cashiers were gathered at the 1st register gossiping and doing nothing as they sometimes do. Meanwhile, the lines are getting longer as they interject themselves in my conversation about the bad meat chronicles. Eventually, I just tell them take everything I just purchased off my card. I don't want anything. I will spend my money elsewhere. These heathens with false eyelashes, bad wigs and a bad attitude to match, should be sent to Charm school. These young ladies are the poster children for what happens when you think is a tv fairy tsk 3 little boys come from out of no where talking about they're with security... oh, really? So, you're here for what exactly? The manager/owner comes downstairs and tells the young cashier to return my money and that was all she needed to do in the first place.... Sad thing is these young cashiers have no common sense. There are 7 grocery stores within a 3 mile radius. I'm pretty damn sure I can go elsewhere to buy my groceries. I don't need high school drama..... I most certainly don't need to shop in a place where its acceptable to sell bad meat to unsuspecting customers.

They get an extra star for having organic fresh spinach, but would have been only one star for the fact that this is the second time I've been sold an expired item. Their stock team needs to step it up in making sure that old items are removed from the shelves. I was really excited to get home and eat my crackers (yes. Crackers!) until I saw that the item is dated November 2017. I could have sworn we were in 2018. It is May 2018 so they are 7 months late taking these crackers off the shelf. It sounds weird complaining about crackers but if you needed them for your soup after taking PTO from work cause you're sick with a cold from this topsy turvy NYC weather where 1 day it's 42 degrees and the next it's 78, you'd be mad too! Now I have to return them, use my valuable time to take another trip to the store and I'm out of crackers at this very hungry congested moment. Geez man!

Reliable, clean, and spacious supermarket that has fair prices and generally friendly staff. Decent produce, good vegetarian and vegan options. Occasionally items show up at the wrong price but the employees work on getting them fixed.

Gentrification is a funny thing. It spreads through a neighborhood like a clever joke, making laugh-out-loud changes for the "better" to this local supermarket. A sushi corner here, some "organic" produce there--often mixed in with the conventional for clarity--and a special all natural, and gluten-free snack section. As much as I am an advocate for healthy eating, what am I supposed to do with a flour-less, eggless, butter-less, sugarless cookie? Not have any late-night snack fun, that's what. Noticing that the changes haven't reached every area of this store, makes me chuckle even more. So while the getting-smaller-every-day sushi nook may be evidence that a change is happening, or simply that it is 2013 in NYC and Bed-Stuy is actually part of NYC, a good number of the cashiers still have the same It's-not-my fault-this-line-is-so-slow-it's-yours perspective, and hairstyles that reflect the 1990s. Think: mean and not cute. Speaking of the beloved 90s, I wonder about the shelf life of certain products. I've had a few "this expiration date was yesterday" times and a special "Ewwww, What is that at the top of that jar I just opened" moment. And in the produce section, a few browning broccoli sprouts and yellowing collard greens prove that Superfoodtown is in need of some more gentrification, or at least real care from management to put out good products for long-time customers like me. All that being said there are the freshly baked "reasons" I keep coming here. Quite honestly the smell of just out of the oven bread on Saturday mornings is a major one. Another is I don't trust buying meat, eggs, or dairy from anywhere else in the area. Yet another is I love to laugh at all of the innocent shenanigans that go on here, gentrified-induced and otherwise.

This supermarket is great. Has great options. The staff is friendly. And it's clean. The location is also very accessible. Love this for Bedstuy.

Food towns policy states 100% scanning accuracy and if not 100% you will receive a free item. Every single time I go there items ALWAYS scan up wrong. The manager was called over and he wouldn't honor their policy because he said it was a "technology problem, my club card wasn't working and they were sale items" but no where does it state in their policy about an exclusions or conditions. So basically the manager said fuck me and wouldn't honor their store policy. This store is a joke and will not honor their policies. Would give 0 stars if possible.

I stop by here this morning to pick up some salmon and broccoli and to my surprise I paid less than what I expected. What I checked out I was greeted by Britney who is an awesome cashier. She is funny she is helpful and personable. If it will more cashier's like her I'm sure that Foodtown would be all over Brooklyn serving the community.

I hate, hate, hate this place. There's never enough cashiers. Everything is ridiculously overpriced. When you finally get checked out, the cashiers are incredibly rude. 90% of the time they don't look or talk to me, just shove the receipt in my face (there's one dude that's really nice and personable though). I spend a lot on Seamless to avoid going here.

Don't fall for the sale on Oxtails they are advertising this week. When you buy the 15 lb box for $44.70 (supposed to be $2.98 per lb.) And you have them cut off the fat and chop them up you end up with under 9 lbs which at 2.98 per lb would only be $26.92. NOT GOOD FOODTOWN!!!!!! What a rip off. Ok so I returned to Foodtown and saw George, one of the managers, I complained and he redeemed FT by giving me an additional large package of Oxtails as a supplement to the original purchase. Good Job George!!!!

Where to start with this place. The parking garage, where the sometimes seemingly forget to open BOTH gates. Now, no matter the time, the majority of the spaces are filled and by people who may be working in the area but not using the facilities. I come here because of the garage, at this point it's becoming a waste of my time, as I have several other supermarket closer than this one. The dying produce section that leaves me frustrated the minute I walk in the door. The aisles where the spaces have evaporated, only to leave random product taking up much of the space, to the point where two people can't possibly walk down side by side, let alone carts going in opposite directions. The café that opened for their grand reopening was closed off a month later.

Anyone complaining that Super Foodtown is "dirty" or in need of renovations should just go back to shopping at Whole Paycheck. A lot of the reviews feel like thinly-veiled classism... Stop by the Fine Fare a few blocks away on Marcus Garvey -- packed with sad, rotting produce and expired canned goods collecting dust -- for a reality check on the current supermarket state of affairs in the neighborhood. Foodtown gets five stars for its sheer size and variety. Easily two to three times the size of your typical NYC supermarket, it's closer in square footage to the places my folks shop in the far-out suburbs. Friends from other neighborhoods bug out when they see the size of the market (again, see: Fine Fare.) Prices are a little higher than you'd find in the suburbs, but nowhere near as expensive as the gourmet markets you'd otherwise have to shop to find the same quality food. Like other reviewers have mentioned, their selection of vegetarian-friendly and health food items is terrific. I have noticed that since I started shopping here, the selection of Goya and Tropical brand foods seems to have diminished slightly, but their inventory is always changing and I'd wager they'll order anything you're looking for if you ask. I've never had a problem finding fresh produce, though I check expiration dates on dairy items (as I would at any supermarket). Oh, and lest I forget to mention -- the selection of craft beers is the best I've seen anywhere in Bed Stuy. Service on the floor is typically excellent, with employees happy to help search for any obscure item on my list, and the manager is a very friendly guy. Checkout service is what you'd expect from a place that employs a lot of younger people. Some of them get it, some of them don't. Customers generally seem happy to be here too -- it's not uncommon to see shoppers literally dancing down the aisles to the motown and 60's soul that makes up Foodtown's playlist... Why do so many suburban markets punish customers with easy listening and soft shreds?

Like the prices and variety of products. Love the music, makes me think I'm still in my car; they have SiriusXM and the same station I listen ( soultown). Most of staff is pleasant. I'll give them 4 1/2 stars

I was falsely accused of stealing items that I clearly purchased inside the store. After being embarrassed trying to leave the store and go about my business, I was told by store security "he didn't see me buy the items" in one of my bags. I had to have the cashier confirm my purchase before leaving. As a lifelong resident of this community that has shopped at this location prior to it even becoming a Foodtown this is not acceptable. Upon further discussion with the 'manager' that watched me suspiciously while packing my bag and the security person it was discovered he walked in after I did and therefore should not have assumed I was stealing. I am a husband, father, community advocate and a well-educated resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant. I frequent Foodtown quite often and have never been accused of stealing. I'd appreciate it if Foodtown did not hire personnel to falsely accuse their long standing customers especially when they arrive late to do the job they are paid to do. I will limit my shopping at this store going forward. I will encourage others to do the same if changes aren't made. Thank you.

Listen, I gotta say this as a native Brooklynite; I'm not a fan of gentrification, but when it suits my needs, I'm ashamed to say, "f*ck it, can't beat em', join em." Back in the day this spot was a glorified Associated or Bravo bed-stuy hood supermarket. The small cut above your average sub-par supermarket. Prices were good, selection slightly better. NOW? Now this supermarket is the bees knees. Organic produce, vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options? I've never been in a supermarket this gluten free friendly. Recently on a gluten-free diet to due agonizing pain that comes with wheat products I was suffering in despair about what would I eat locally and at home. All my favorite stuff got wheat! I walked through the aisles and got emotional. SO MANY OPTIONS! Yo, thank you, Foodtown. Crisis averted. Even though it took non-brown folks crowding the neighborhood clamoring for special groceries to get your shit together, it's together. Bless up.

I am a supermarket whore. I'm loyal to no chain. I will shop wherever I can get the most bang for my buck. Foodtown is definitely in my little black book. I love the club card which allows me to collect points and use them just when I have run out of a 3000oz bottle of ketchup. OK, 3000 might be exaggerating a bit but you get my point. Cheap parking available below but it is kind of creepy down there so a meter is a better choice. Great deals available weekly and quick checkouts. Just like I like 'em fast and cheap!!!

Great selection of food and establishment is clean and spacious. Prices are decent, maybe a bit high. The in-store music is always excellent. Minus 1 star because the deli is the FUCKING WORST and I end up waiting forever every single time as it's understaffed/the workers are slow and often on break. Minus another star because check out is a nightmare with long lines and slow, unfriendly cashiers. What could be a 15min visit to pick up a few items is without fail a 45min+ ordeal due to the staff in these areas.

Le sigh... why oh why are they jacking up the prices. No really the price difference between here and Food Bazaar is just completely disrespectful. Maybe someone at Foodtown caught win of the gentrification of Bedstuy (clearly they have delivery now) and decided to swindle all the hip young folk that have moved in, but they're not slick. $7 for a 4-pack of Activia?? Why are the plantanos 3 for $2? (Sorry those are the only things I can remember, lol, don't judge my eating habits) Why does the fresh produce cost so damn much? Is that why I always see folks with carts full of ramen, kool-aid mix and frozen ish? I can't and I will not. In a fix, it's cool cause it's literally around the corner from me. But I prefer the fresh produce "stands" on Fulton St. Trader Joe's when I want to feel cool and psuedo healthy or to my staple, penny-saving Food Bazaar in the less gentrified part of Bushwick. Food Bazaar was a like at the light at the end of tunnel. Makes Foodtown look like a corner store with it's pathetic selection.

I shopped at the Bushwick, on Broadway location and never before had a problem at either location , until today after purchasing a couple of items; one of the items scanned higher than show on display. After asking for my money back. The cashier explained to the manager who looked to be of Middle Eastern descendant that I had used a card and cash. He stated that I could not get cash because I had used "food stamps". When I actual paid $10. USC and the remainder on my debit card. Won't be shopping there anymore #moneypowerrespect

On my visit to New York City I was staying in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood and a grocery store was one of the establishments I was hoping would be close by. Lucky for me I had done some Yelp research and found that Super Foodtown was close by. My host pointed me to it and it was just half a block from the house. Score. Super Foodtown is smaller than grocery stores I'm familiar with but it was well stocked with everything. I was able to find exactly what I needed and the prices were reasonable. If you are in the Bed-Stuy area make sure Super Foodtown becomes your grocery store of choice.

The staff is less than pleasant. The quality of the food is poor. There's an entire aisle dedicated to Frozen Foods high in sodium, as well as fat. This is a large company, there's no need for them to raise their prices on basics, especially in lower income neighborhood. Either this company lowers their prices, and better educates their employees on food safety, and sanitation or they deal with the social ramifications.

Pretty good selection, but a lot of expired products. Lots of fat, slow shoppers make navigating the aisles a nightmare. Customers often don't have enough money to pay for their groceries, so be prepared to wait an eternity for price checks, coupon arguments, and general feeble mindedness at the register.

Ok, I have lived in Bed-stuy for 1 yr now. WHy the heck have I not shopped at Foodtown. All those who go to Keyfood by Franklin and Fulton and Bravo on Nostrand and Fulton need to halt. Foodtown is amazing, I went this past weekend. The deli, fresh produce etc AMAZING!!!!! The manager even walks around the supermarket to make sure everyone is ok. The best park its only $3 bucks for them to deliver your groceries when you shop in-store. If you shop online its more. YES I said online you can SHOP ONLINE also. Bedstuy has definitely changed!!

I just luuuuurv errything about this grocery store. As a suburban girl at heart, I often miss large stores with wide aisles. Boop! Foodtown has it. The prices are reasonable and if you sign up for a membership card you often get some free goods. I can't wait to get my free eggs.

One of the better grocery stores I've lived near and regularly visit. Along with being open both very early and late, you have the choice of picking both healthy (produce, organic, etc.), guilty pleasures (candy, soda, chips), and things in between. If you go late in the evening, the regular entrance could be locked so you have to enter through the exit. Get a free membership to earn points to get free items such as eggs or milk after a certain amount. The lines can get long, but only at obvious times (after work on a weekday, on weekends). Workers there have been helpful, asking me if I need help (probably because I have resting confused face).

Ugh. I dread going here but its the closest supermarket to my house. They chronically overcharge you for things here! Has anyone else noticed that? I mean seriously CHECK YOUR RECEIPT before you leave! It happens all the time with sale items - they will often ring up at the normal price not the sale price. And the place ain't cheap either. I've had a supervisor correct the price on something at least 5 times. No bueno. And each time they are totally annoyed about it. Well, if you were doing your job properly then this wouldn't be happening. Everyone that works there looks and seems miserable. I have also purchased multiple items that were expired and/or rancid. Gross. I frequently see expired items for sale. Just a weird place. The neighborhood deserves better quality, more affordable food! It ain't rrright!!!

Dear Manager, please fix the radio! I love Foodtown. But one of the reasons I love it is bc they're always playing incredible oldies funk and r&b. The radio has been broken for weeks now, though. Makes me sad to only get to listen to every other five seconds of some Lou Rawls or Al Green while shopping for my soy milk.

I'm giving Foodtown 4 stars for the fact the have been making a big effort to add organic foods over the last year and not having to trek out of the neighborhood for groceries has been a transforming experience. We even ditched our car. If you shop organic, you can pretty much get everything you need here. Milk, fruit, chicken, eggs, bread.

This place is incredibly disgusting. The entire establishment reeks of cat food. The odor hits you especially hard when you enter, in the fruit section of all places. You eventually get used to it but it's still distinctly there. It's in terrible disrepair, with scuffs on almost every floor. It looks like it hasn't been updated since the 90s, and that's probably the case. As of July 2015 they look to be doing upgrades to some walls. Prices are average. Frustratingly, not be early lower than in the rest of the city, despite this being the cheapest neighborhood close to Manhattan. I give this an extra star because the guy who bagged my groceries was especially nice, letting me know the date when I filled out a form and thanking me for signing up for their club card. He sang along to one of the intercom songs and generally had a good humor about him. In New York this is truly a remarkable level of service!

Much better service and the hot and cold buffet is delicious and reasonable. Fresh seafood is like indoor fish market and not crowded so you get more attention if needed.

Clean, big selection, and reasonably priced most of the time. Can get a very crowded at times and the staff is sort of indifferent - neither good nor bad. For the neighborhood, this place is great. In the grand scheme of things, it's merely okay. I usually make the 10 minute walk here when I need something that Trade Wise doesn't carry. Oh, and they have a non-existent pharmacy section, don't don't plan on getting toothpaste or anything here.

The beat grocery store in the neighborhood. a few if their items are slightly pricier than the smaller mom and pop stores such as lemons. Their lemons are expensive as crap. Very wide assortment if products though. You can pretty much find everything you need here, even some specialty items. Definitely take advantage of the Greenpoints though. We just great our pancake syrup and Goya products for free as a result. The only downfalls are sometimes the prices are higher than Pathmark and they almost always have long lines. The staff isn't the friendliest either.

This was the first supermarket I visited in Bed Stuy and it still ranks as my favorite. The truth is, no large grocer in this neighborhood can compare. Yeah, some things can be a little expensive, but when you try to shop somewhere else, you're always disappointed. I refer to this place as "the oasis."

I've been going to this supermarket since it was named Pathmark but tonight my cashier name was Sharon, she's The Cashier from HELL with a Nasty Attitude. I placed my items on the counter & Sharon starts slamming my items around with so much Force until Twice my items landed on the floor The first time when I saw Sharon Never attempted to pick the item up or even say she was sorry that it slipped out of her hand or something OK she continued ringing up the second time the items went on the floor now I'm pissed off once again Sharon Did not attempt to pick my items up or once again to say oh I'm sorry so I said so who's going to pick my items up this time because it's not gonna be me she totally ignored me, she called out a few times for another person to come and pick my items up so I called the manager I believe he said his name was John he said he was the night manager and I told him what happened I said if you don't believe me look at your own camera I'm the lady just standing there with a leather camouflage jacket on he told me he was very sorry and he's going to go and speak to her about it and he was going to speak to the daytime manager about our conversation I had with him tonight. I don't know what her problem is we had no words, I don't know if her salary is too low and she feels she can take it out on customers like myself that help to pay her salary but I'm not having that and I feel no one should have to be treated like that when they are patronizing a business that We Spend our hard earned Cash @.

Great selections, but OVERPRICED. I spend so much time trying to economize and do lots of price comparisons. Circulars are always helpful. But sometimes I get more for the money at nearby Bravo or, Mets. They usually have short lines though!

Super Foodtown is the best option in the neighborhood. It is definitely a suburban type grocery store with a lot of options. There is a surprising array of fresh vegetables. I say surprising only in comparison to the other local grocery stores that lack both selection and quality of fresh vegetables. The prices are decent, but nothing to shout about. I do shop here quite regularly though as it is the best option within walking distance. I've caught some good sales here, and I like that I can find Murray chicken here. The basic meat selection is also good, and seems to be better quality compared to the other options in the neighborhood. All in all, this is my go-to for most things in the neighborhood. Though when I can, I do ride my bike and take the train to better grocery stores in Brooklyn.

It's a huge grocery store that has a shocking amount of vegetarian and organic options (May-Wah products? Really? Yay!). It also has ridiculously long and slow-moving lines, so-so produce, and dazed cashiers. But mostly it's a big old supermarket -- you know, the usual. It's clean and bright, but its organizational logic can be a bit perplexing. The same item (beans, cinnamon, etc) can be found in usually two or three different places, with different selections in each one. That's a little frustrating, but hey, at least it's trying to be helpful. This definitely isn't my "place I can get anything" grocery store (why don't you carry fennel seed!?), but it's easily the biggest and best in the neighborhood. So, like, it's a big chain supermarket -- pretty standard fare. But props to them for carrying vegetarian food and organic food available in a neighborhood that's not Park Slope!

Foodtown warms the part of my heart that grew up in the suburbs. Don't get me wrong - I love small groceries with fancy organic meats, Trader Joe's, and the produce stands of San Francisco. But I'm poor and I need to do most of my shopping at a big box grocery store. It's clean, has a good sale selection, as many aisles as a recovering suburbanite could wish for, a huge meat section (they have goat! and bring a plastic bag to rewrap the meat containers in), and the produce even has the faux-rainstorm sounds when it waters the veggies. Only thing is... has anyone found tofu? Edit: Thanks to Sue P. for pointing me to the bagged salad section for tofu!
