Yelp
This review applies to the restaurant, and it's already my new favorite Mexican joint after only one visit.
I give it full stars for what it is: a no-nonsense authentic Mexican kitchen with great flavors and preparation. This was the first time I've had menudo, so I am no authority, but I can say that a really solid beef broth with great, relatively mild seasoning was there, along with bones, gelatinous bits, chunks of beef. Delicious. I also tried three tacos (lengua, barbacoa, carnitas), and while the fillings were as good, at least, as those to be found on Western Ave, I like this place better for giving a bit of griddle time to the corn tortillas here rather than simply presenting them steamed. Nice added touch of texture. The tacos were mild as served, but green and red hot sauces are available in bottle.
From my experience, I take this place's local competition to be El Paraiso, Taqueria Chicago, Tacos El Aguila, and La Nortena. All have their plusses. This one's likely to be my first choice if not too far away for me.
El Paraiso does have a better supermarket, marginally.
Am I missing any other "authentic"-style places?
