"The next morning, go to the Super Max market, a ten-minute walk from La Botánica. Once you’re on Vieques, you won’t find as much stuff, so go buy mangoes, fruit, cheese, crackers, olives, bottles of wine."

Fruits are expensive and strawberry 🍓 is a bit moldy. Big enough and you can get some food like bread too!

Great place to pick up some bags of coffee beans that you can't get in the states at less than half the price of the gift shops. Perfect to stow away away on your cruise ship stop.

Although this is a nice store and does have good selection; I will say that the wait time just to buy a few items is ridiculous and the fact that the cashiers are slow is baffling. There was cashier that used to work here. I do remember him being from New York City. Although I did not like him because of how overly friendly and talkative he was; I will say that he was actually the fastest and always got customers out the line with no problem. I would have a whole cart of groceries and I would be done in less than 6 minutes. beyond impressive. I can't say the same for the others who work here,. Seems to me this store lost out on a good employee. I barely have come back here since this cashier left. This store needs improvement on speed of service.

Well stocked. Great selections. Lots of specialty and curiosity items. Nice selection of single beers. They even had a waffle maker.

Google
It's walkable from our hotel. It has everything you'd need from a typical grocery store, like produce, deli, baked goods, wine, household goods, etc. Friendly & efficient staff!

Google
Fair prices (especially for the area), clean premises, friendly and helpful employees, and convenient location. Store is well lit and well organized and has great hours. Perfect place to get groceries, alcohol, and essentials in Old San Juan. Easy walking distance of many hotels in the area, so we just carried our purchases to our hotel easily. This is our go-to stop for necessities!

Bought a few snacks while walking in old san juan! Prices are not bad

Small, not very spacious for people to practice distancing, but this store is packed of different products you might need in an emergency or as a last minute grocery shopping. They’re taking the temperature and asking people to use hands sanitizer upon arrival. I was happy they have the specific, small size hand sanitizer as a spray that I was looking for in many other places and I couldn’t find it, but here I was able to buy a couple of them 😁. We were able to buy some nice souvenirs. It is in a great and convenient location. We walked from our hotel to this store and took about 5 minutes only. The staff there was very efficient and helpful when we asked them a few things.

Yelp
Stopped by SuperMax on the way back to our hotel after dinner this evening... forgot to take pictures, total brain freeze on my part... but I must add it was freezing in there! If I was cold, it was cold in there! LOL We just picked up some bottled water, a couple of sodas, and a bottle of wine... all we needed! A small grocery store, but they have everything you could possibly need... a decent wine selection too! Recommend SuperMax for your grocery needs in Old San Juan!

Yelp
Nice little grocery with very reasonable prices. Aisles are very narrow but well stocked. Produce was of good quality and good pricing. Great little grocery for Old San Juan

Yelp
If you stay in old town of St Juan, I suggest you to go the SuperMax to buy fruits and daily used necessary stuffs as this one has more choices than grocery stores.

Yelp
Reliable grocery stop right in the middle of Old San Juan. I've come here frequently over the years and they have a great selection of pretty much anything you might need including wine, beer and liquor. They had all the spices we needed for coquito and a nice selection of traditional candies. Line moves fast. You may need to ask staff to unlock certain higher dollar value items like top shelf liquor and coffee. If you can get to a more suburban Super Max, you'll get better prices but the prices here are not unreasonable.

Yelp
A perfect little grocery store with tons of selection in old San Juan. If you want to stock up on grocery items in this tourist area it doesn't get any better than this. They have just about everything as the shelves are stocked almost to the ceiling. Service was quick and the prices are reasonable for a tourist area.

Yelp
Busy place but the lines move quickly. Ground Coffee was locked up in the grocery aisle and staff told me I had to buy it from the cashier . This worked out fine but if there was a sign on the locked case I wouldn't have had to search for staff.

Yelp
Great convenient grocery store in old San Juan. Was able to pick up picnic supplies and a few souvenirs (get PR coffee here, not at the gift shops, you'll save a ton)

Yelp
Clean store with everything available; bakery, frozen, fruit, meat, alcohol, cleaning products.

Yelp
We were staying at an Air bnb nearby and this grocery store was full of everything we needed! Including liquors and wine! Very friendly staff. Fresh bread, fresh fruit and produce and all the things!

Yelp
A great small supermarket in Old Town San Juan. Perfect if you need toiletries, food, cheap beer/liquor even fruits and veggies. This market is packed to the gills! There is so much stuff in here I'm sure you can find whatever you need. Don't worry about language barrier, everyone speaks English so if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask them. Bring your own bags. Grab a beer and sit at the central square across the street...perfect!

Yelp
Great grocery store in the middle of old San Juan! Well stocked and very helpful. Xx

Yelp
Nice grocery store in sanjuan. The only one I can find close to me that had fresh fruit.

Yelp
Nice, clean and fair pricing- especially if you're coming from the Mainland. SuperMax had everything I needed and more!

Yelp
This is a great one-stop convenience store for visitors staying in Old San Juan! Grocery items are limited and the fruit could be fresher, but we picked up bottled water ($3.50 for a 24 pack! Although the drinking water is safe in PR we wanted to be extra cautious), beers ($5 for a six-pack if Medalla), and sunscreen ($10 - cheaper than the pharmacy next door). They also have a good selection of coffee, tea, snack items, personal care items, and liquor for reasonable prices. This is the only true convenience/grocery store in the area that's not primarily a souvenir shop so it's definitely worth swinging by.

Yelp
Maybe the best mini-mart I've ever been to. From a wide array of booze, dragonfruit, dairy-free milk/yogurt options to an impressive shelf of local coffee grounds...SuperMax had me thoroughly surprised.

Yelp
Convenient supermarket in Old San Juan. The two most important things to know: 1) They sell booze!! 2) They can give you a ride back to your place in Old San Juan in their oversized golf cart after your purchase.

Yelp
This place is a welcome break from the fried food options in OSJ. I can't believe someone is complaining that they have no philly cream cheese with salmon. Really??? They can make you acai bowls, carry all the goods you need (except philly cream cheese, apparently) and they are super helpful. Open 6 - midnight.

Winnie C.

Yelp
Great location to stumble upon after a long day exploring OSJ. Only downside is that it's a lot smaller than the location in Condado so much less variety to choose from.

Yelp
Great spot for groceries, wine, beer, liquor ... They have it all .... And good price for the middle of Old San Juan!

Yelp
SuperMax is the ONLY Supermarket in Old San Juan, they sell name-brand items from the states as well as locally made Breads, Pastries & Medalla Beer. But the BEST item they sell is their Rotisserie Chicken, it's superb but it's not low-sodium at all. (Though you can remove the salty skin). They offer a free shuttle within Old San Juan until 7PM during weekdays. They should try to improve at labeling all of their shelf items, and, the place is in dire need of remodel. The staff is helpful and their shuttle drivers are the BEST!

Yelp
"At SuperMax, we realize you have absolutely no other choice in Old San Juan .. but thanks for shopping at SuperMax." Hey at least they'll give you a ride home!

Yelp
Good place to buy groceries, gifts & convenience items.
