How Rotterdam, Once an Industrial Port Town, Became a Pioneer of Thoughtful Urban Regeneration

"There's a home-away-from-home quality to the Supernova Hotel. Spacious rooms have cozy seating nooks with midcentury furniture and record players, plus pink-tiled bathrooms with cabinets from recycled plastic terrazzo."

Supernova Hotel (Rotterdam, South Holland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Supernova doesn’t follow the rules - by design. Housed in a former post office, this 38-room “non-hotel” embraces bold color, eclectic interiors, and a distinctly local energy. No two rooms are alike; you might get a record player, a garden view, or even a porcelain cat. Public spaces feel more like a creative’s apartment than a lobby, with a vinyl lounge, cocktail bar, and curated shop. It is playful, personal, and as offbeat as the city itself." - Tablet Hotels

As a local resident of Rotterdam, Netherlands, I have stayed at many nearby hotels. I didn’t have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised by a very enjoyable short stay and was extremely satisfied. Firstly, the hotel’s design was very unique, trendy, and stylish. Not only the lobby and corridors but also the room I stayed in had a charming and trendy design that made the stay fun. I especially loved the bathroom — the tiles, shower, and sink were adorably designed also very practical. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and I woke up without any neck or back pain, which made my stay even more refreshing. Cleanliness was perfect, this hotel really nailed in both cleanliness and housekeeping quality. Unlike many other hotels where I’ve seen dust or small stains on items, this place was spotless. Having visited many well-known big brand hotels, I felt this one was never less than them, even better. That definitely deserves high marks. I had to check out early in the morning and couldn’t try the breakfast, but the lobby area was really chic and cute, and I’m looking forward to trying breakfast next time. Also, I liked the self-checkout process via mobile, which made my schedule much smoother and lighter. Location-wise, it’s very close to Rotterdam Central Station, which was very convenient. The price was reasonable, making it a good value-for-money choice. If you have a chance to stay in Rotterdam, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This is up there with our favourite hotels we have visited , we were only sad that we were only booked in for one night but I’m sure we will be back. Staff were super friendly and helpful , we got into Rotterdam early morning due to arriving on the ferry from Hull and the staff didn’t hesitate in saving our luggage while we explored the city. The hotel is beautifully furnished and decorated throughout and our room was amazing with a city living modern feel ,spacious even with 4 of us ( 3 grown ups and a child ) 2 big beds one of which was on a split level which was super cool, the beds by the way were sooo comfortable and we all had a great nights sleep. The vinyl records and player were such a nice touch and we had a little singalong and showed the kids what music used to be like ! The wi-fi was excellent and we were able to easily stream Netflix onto the TV . Bathroom was also fantastic. We bought drinks from the bar at reception which is open till late and there is also a lovely coffee machine in the room. 100% recommended

Only stayed here for one night and we were sorry we weren’t able to stay longer. A gorgeous hotel, full of character. Fabulous bedroom and really comfy bed. Very trendy and quirky! The staff there were so friendly and helpful. Would love to go back again.

1. The outside of hotel is under construction now. Didn’t be informed in advance. Feel unsafe when we checked in and out. 2. No bikes are available on site when we arrived. Also no any kinds of waitlist service. They just said NO more. 3. The room is clean but there are some things unconvienced. The chair mats always de-attached from chair. No door or any divider in the shower room so all the bathroom floor got so wet…Be careful if you travel with elders or kids. 4. The location is not what I expected. Need to walk more than 20mins from Central Staion and need more time to take metro. Not close to any Rotterdam tourist spots. 5. Considering of these inconveniences, the price is not reasonable. I paid about US$250 for one night WITHOUT breakfast/bike as they claimed online. (They charge €20per person for breakfast.) Overall, it is an overrated experience for us.

I had a very disappointing stay at this hotel. The location is quite inconvenient, and I already arrived tired and hungry, hoping I could count on the in-house restaurant. Unfortunately, that only added to the frustration. When I went down to the restaurant, I was immediately judged based on my appearance. A staff member looked at me and said, “I don’t think you can eat here, it’s fine dining,” which was both rude and unprofessional. As someone with dietary restrictions (vegan and gluten-free), I tried to ask for suitable options. Instead of trying to accommodate me, they simply said it wasn’t possible because their chef “works a lot with soy sauce.” Oddly enough, I was told I could eat plain jasmine rice—but wasn’t offered anything beyond that. It felt like they used my diet as an excuse not to serve me, when there were clearly options that could have worked. The service was dismissive; I was laughed at and given no suggestions or alternatives. I was left very hungry in a place where I expected at least basic hospitality. To make things worse, the room itself was below expectations. There’s no phone to contact reception, and it seems there’s no real food service available unless you go through their difficult restaurant process. I didn’t feel comfortable ordering delivery due to the location either. Poor service, poor facilities, and a complete lack of care for guests' needs. I would not recommend staying here.

We loved our stay in Supernova. The room and shower facilities were very adequate and comfortable. We found free filtered water (thanks!) and a record player with selections of records for ys to play in the room, that was special! The hotel is located on a big-ish road but quiet, so no noise pollution. Close enough to the station around 17 mins walk. Close enough to some cool spots like Marseille, a french brasserie. The area itself is quite diverse and has stronger concentration of immigrants, but generally easy and safe. The staffs were really courteous and quite on it in general, we liked them very much. Surprisingly, we found decent coffee and non alcoholic soft drink option at the hotel bar versus high street coffee shops. We regretted not taking coffee there more regularly! Well done Supernova Hotel!!

Had a great stay at this hotel. Staff are genuinely friendly people and willing to think with you, the place is clean and cute with hallways and staircases that are a whole vibe. Bike rental for free, amazing! Location easy to explore the city, especially if you make use of the bike! If surely reccomend and would definetly come back.
