On the Grid : Supreme Echo

"There are record stores in Victoria, then there's Supreme Echo. It's tiny, it's weird, it's full of surprises. Expect to spend more time than anticipated in this small retail space tucked away in Rock Bay. An open mind and curious ear pairs well with the rare and obscure, new and vintage LPs on offer. Consider taking notes while chatting up the knowledgable staff; this place is one-part history lesson, one-part audiophile dreamland. You're gonna need a bigger record crate." - The Number

What an awesome little shop. Visiting from Regina SK, have been to many many stores across Canada and have never encountered one this uniquely curated. The owner (I'm so sorry I forgot your name already) is passionate and knowledgeable. I only wish I had more time to spend. Thank you for the passion and your recommendations, cannot wait to try them out. Cheers!

We’re really so lucky to have Supreme Echo in Victoria! I went through a long period in my life where I was moving around cities so often I never felt like I could amass any sizeable collection of physical music media, despite my love for it. Now that that’s over and I’m ready to hunt my wishlist down, this is a place I know will always have things I’m likely to never come across anywhere else on the island. Jason is so obviously passionate about bringing provocative music into people’s hands and it shows in how earnestly he runs the shop, and his label.

I think the owners name is Jack, but that doesn’t matter. His pantry size store filled with vinyl gems. He has help me find vinyl gems. He understands his clients have some esoteric tastes and accommodates. Can’t say enough about knowledge and passion for vinyl collecting Thanks

The smallest record store I have ever been in, but easily of of my favourites. Jason is passionate about music and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to many genres, especially local bands and their history. Great selection of Psych and Jazz, graded honestly, and priced fairly.

This place is amazing, some of the best finds around. Owner is incredibly knowledgeable and a really great guy. This curated selection is what everyone should be looking for. If you are looking for records, CD’s, or tapes, this is the best shop in Victoria.

Very friendly owner. The store is tiny and reminiscent of shops we've visited in Japan. It's a immersive experience and well worth it, as you will find legit treasures and a fair price. ありがとうございます!

Google
Quaint shop, but don't be fooled! Jason is a solid proprietor and an absolute vault of music knowledge. If he doesn't have what you're looking for, he's always willing to help point you in the right direction. He even makes and distributes his own archival releases, solid quality each time. Some of my rarest/favorite records I own are from this shop. Small local business done right!

Yelp
Jason is fantastic, and knows his inventory and music history! Plus he's super cool to deal with. The store is tiny, but MIGHTY! If you're in Victoria and love vinyl, you owe it to yourself to stop in and see his selections, some of which are quite rare! I picked up two super obscure Pink Floyd variants from him, and if it wasn't for Supreme Echo, I'd have never even known they existed! I did pretty good with the exchange rate, coming from the US - we even made a deal on some 8-track tapes that he just happened to have on hand! Well worth the price and the time spent.

Yelp
I popped into a handful of record stores in Victoria during my recent New Year's getaway to the city, and Supreme Echo was the best of the bunch. It's a tiny little place that's packed with a diverse selection--from '80s new wave to jazz, from metal to country classics, from Bowie to Branigan and back again, and pretty much everything in between. I was particularly tickled to find a bunch of Polish pop and garage rock from the '60s and '70s there in the bins, a lot of neat stuff I'd never seen before. The selection is great, the prices fair, and the guys working the shop are friendly and fun to chat with about music. If you're in Victoria and you're into vinyl, it's definitely worth venturing a few blocks north of the downtown core to check this little place out.

Yelp
In from Winnipeg on a business trip and did a whirlwind tour of three stores downtown.......first two were OK but wow the pricing is high in Victoria for used vinyl! Ended my trip chatting with Jason at Supreme Echo....Despite the size of store he had selection of the genre I was after and his prices were a bit better.....also convinced me to by a rare Blues item I would have otherwise probably avoided because of the price! Great spot - will visit again

Yelp
BEST record shop in town. Jason goes up and beyond to make sure you leave with something cool to add to your vinyl collection. His suggestions match my taste spot on. He's willing to hold stuff for you or try his best to find a title if you want it. This shop is worth going to and free parking around the corner which is a bonus!

Yelp
This is by far my favourite record store to visit in Victoria. The owner(and sole staff member) Jason is friendly and personable and is as open to casual conversation as he is with suggestions on interesting artists to listen to. It's not uncommon to see regulars hang around for an hour or more chatting about music or whatever else happens to be the topic of the moment. One of the best things about Supreme Echo is the incredibly diverse selection. While he may not match other local stores in the sheer volume of stock(the store is tiny!), Jason has an amazing blend not only of well known artists, but artist from around the world as well. It's not uncommon to see African metal on the display wall next to Russian pressings of Zeppelin records and classic soul artists. If you're curious about a particular album, you're welcome to ask for a listen. I can't recommend Supreme Echo enough to anyone. If you're a vinyl fan, especially if you're on the hunt for something unique that you're unlikely to find anywhere else, then you owe it to yourself to check this place out.
