"Why we love it: A Laguna Beach fixture with a prime surfside location The Highlights: - An ideal location just 500 feet from Laguna Beach - A kid- and pet-friendly vibe - On-site restaurant Splashes, which serves all three meals plus ocean views The Review: At Surf & Sand Resort, all 167 rooms—including 13 suites—offer sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, and the stunning mosaic pool sits just steps from the world-famous Laguna Beach. Often ranked among the town’s top hotels, the property also features plenty of cozy outdoor sofas and circular fire pits, where guests can further enjoy the vista and sea breezes. Rooms complement wicker and whitewashed wood with soft blue pillows, throws, and glass art, and boast extras like down comforters, marble bathrooms, and deep-soaking tubs. Some are even pet-friendly. Where the resort really stands out, however, is at Splashes restaurant, set just 25 feet above the waves. Here, guests can choose to sit by the windows inside or under a palm-shaded table on the patio while enjoying a breakfast of Nutella pancakes, a lunch of peach-and-pork-belly flatbread, or a dinner of freshly caught John Dory with red quinoa. For further indulgence, head to the on-site Aquaterra Spa, which offers everything from pumpkin pedicures to a body wrap with rosemary- and citrus-infused coconut oil. Guests should also make a point to get off property and explore the tide pools and rock formations at Wood’s Cove, which sits just a half mile from the hotel."

What an incredible resort. I had the king ocean view room, the best I’ve ever stayed in. The crashing waves are just beyond the clear balcony. Kit was truly a gem. Daniel at the poolside was friendly and accommodating. The hospitality was stellar. Hannah was a doll, Alice was amazing upon checking out. Can’t wait to return

The property is undeniably stunning — breathtaking views, beautiful grounds, and a serene atmosphere. But the service and policies behind the scenes were a massive letdown. One afternoon, I cut my beach time short specifically to enjoy the steam room, only to be told upon arrival that the spa had decided to close early due to low guest traffic — with no prior notice. I was then informed I’d need to book and pay for a service just to use the amenities. At hotels charging $1500+ per night, spa access is standard. This felt petty, short-sighted, and out of touch with the caliber they claim to represent. Worse still was what happened after four nights and nearly $10,000 spent. I returned to the hotel around 5AM after a long studio session, accompanied by my partner — who happens to be Black. The overnight staff became visibly uncomfortable, and I was interrogated at the front desk for over 15 minutes. They claimed the room wasn’t in my name and insisted my ID didn’t match — when it absolutely did. The reservation was in my name. My ID was valid. Only when a manager finally appeared did they calmly confirm my information and hand over the keys. No apology. No explanation. Just dismissal. I understand the demographics of Laguna Beach — but this kind of treatment is unacceptable anywhere. Profiling, discomfort, and passive aggression have no place in hospitality, especially not at this level. The fact that this occurred after nearly a week-long stay makes it even more disturbing. I travel often. I know what true luxury feels like — and it’s not this. Do better.

I am not always so easy to please and this experience was top notch! The service was excellent and thoughtful in every respect. The beach guys to bar tenders and especially the front desk. Special shout out to Kit, who was very helpful and gracious and all around terrific at her job! Everyone we encountered seemed happy to work here and interested in giving their guests a great experience. The room was beautiful, the bed and linens and pillows were quality, the deck over the ocean was heavenly. I have no notes! This place crushed it for us. We will be back for sure!

We just returned from a wonderful family reunion at the newly renovated Surf and Sand after missing last year due to the construction. We have enjoyed multigenerational gatherings at the Surf and Sand nearly every year for decades. We were all anxious to see how the hotel changed from the construction. The new rooms and lobby were amazing. The exceptional service has not changed. It was nice to see some familiar faces in the staff return and meet some new faces, as well. There are literally too many to name, but I will do my best to give a few shout outs- Kim has been a kind face at breakfast in Splashes for ages, Ali is always so helpful getting our family’s rooms figured out, Ashley and Daniel were new help poolside with chairs and cocktails..and so many more! It is such a relief to see that the casual family atmosphere remains strong even with the new updated luxurious surroundings.||||The location of the hotel in the heart of Laguna right on the ocean is truly unparalleled. There is nothing like standing on your balcony and watching the dolphins…or sleeping at night and feeling the waves crash below. This hotel is a special gem with a little added sparkle after the renovation.

Google
This resort was INCREDIBLE!! The rooms were beautiful especially facing the ocean. I would recommend getting a room in the taller of the two buildings to avoid construction noise. They are still working on their remodel and there is still ongoing construction happening. Highly recommend going to the bar rather than the restaurant as you get full access to the restaurant menu but no reservation required!

Just returned from 5 nights and Surf and Sand. It was truly a magical experience. A beautiful beach hotel directly on the ocean, in the heart of Laguna Beach, with the highest level of service imaginable. Enjoyed the beautiful room and patio area, watching the sunsets every day from our balcony, and hearing the ocean waves crashing below were highlights. Great property. Exceeded all expectations. Great concierge department too, especially Sandra, who is an expert in what she does. Top level experience.

We decided to stay here on a whim for a quick getaway June 15-17. We could not have asked for a better room or location. We really wanted a little time to relax and unwind and being able to enjoy the ocean views during the day, and listening to the ocean at night, did just that. We did not want to leave. What made the experience even better was the exceptional service from every employee. Every one was so helpful and kind. Maxine at check-in, Oscar with room service, and Gabe at valet. We will definitely be coming back here.

I booked a room at the Surf and Sand on July 18, 2025. ||||When I checked in, I was helped at the front desk by a very polite and nice woman named Maxine. She asked the purpose of my stay and I told her that my wife had passed away last year and that day, the 18th, was our 44 year anniversary. We lived in locally and we never stayed at the Surf and Sand, but had been to its restaurant, Splashes, for dinner and also to the hotel for weddings. My wife always loved the sound of the crashing surf that could be heard at the resort. I told Maxine that rather than stay home, I wanted spend our anniversary at your hotel, hear the ocean.||||Maxine was very nice and understanding. She gave me my key and I went to my room. Although I could hear the sound of the ocean, it was also right above the pool. I hadn't expected that, but I thought it was fine. Even before I started to unpack, Maxine knocked at my door and told me that Surf and Sand would like to offer a complementary upgrade to a room that would better fit the purpose of my stay. Immediately upon entering my new room, I could hear only the crashing waves. I was floored.||||I am 72, have traveled a lot, and stayed in hotels both grand and unique. I have never had anyone do anything as thoughtful and appreciated as Maxine and Surf and Sand arranged for me. Everything else at the hotel was excellent and its entire staff was professional and polite. No courtesy||given me seemed insincere. Still, the extra effort Maxine and Surf and Sand went to make my stay memorable was above and beyond. ||||I am not someone who forgets kindness and I will be telling this story for years.

Yelp
Space is gorgeous they just remodeled too. We had our Christmas party here and it was off the hook it was the absolutely best catered and beautiful and flowered and everything you could possibly need for every detail impeccable Even though it was raining the event was just awesome it was in one of their 2 story event buildings we had a casino on the floor and we had ice sculptures and crab claws and shrimp and Indian food and 2 kinds of roses we have lamb and a standing rib roast every dessert was delicious they had sushi they had hand rolls I mean this place can do it all this is where you want your next party. I did not get to stay overnight here but the rooms are supposed to be amazing because they all face the ocean as far as I recall I stayed here once many many years ago but it was still some memorable from that time 4th review as a non elite after 15 years :( why? I ask you. Why?

Yelp
We came here for our anniversary since we honeymooned here 32 years. What a disappointment. We weren't told that the resort was being renovated and most of it was closed. Only one restaurant is open and not for breakfast. So you have to order room service. Menu is limited, food took an hour and was cold. TV wasn't working one day. Bathtub drain didn't work. The one restaurant open for lunch and dinner is outside and then we were subjected to construction noise 20 feet from where we were eating. Definitely not worth the price. Definitely not the experience I was expecting.

Yelp
"My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon at this incredible hotel, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional--valet, front desk, and room service all went above and beyond to make our stay special. Oh, and the food is excellent!! Our room had a stunning ocean view, and we loved falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing right outside our balcony. The hotel was immaculate and beautifully designed, creating the perfect romantic atmosphere. Later, we had our kids brought to us, and the staff welcomed them with sand toys and sodas for the beach. It made their day and ours! The attention to detail and family-friendly touch made this place even more special. We can't recommend this hotel enough for anyone seeking a luxurious and family-friendly getaway!"

Yelp
The Surf and Sand Resort: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience Our stay at the Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach on December 12th, 2024, was nothing short of magical. This was our wedding day, and from the moment we arrived, the incredible team at Surf and Sand, along with the staff at Splashes, went above and beyond to create an unparalleled, unforgettable experience. We made our reservation last summer and immediately felt the professionalism and warmth of the team. Even when the resort wasn't yet open, they accommodated all of our requests. In the weeks leading up to our wedding, we dined at Splashes and met Ante Dapic, the resort's operations manager, who helped orchestrate our special requests -- including a filet mignon for my wife on our wedding day. Ante and his team delivered on every request and exceeded our expectations in ways we never imagined. When we arrived, Tommy from valet greeted us warmly, handled our bags with care, and made us feel so welcome. Jeremy at the front desk was outstanding, assigning us to Room 199 -- a corner room on the ninth floor with breathtaking views of the coastline and ocean. Jeremy's kindness and professionalism set the tone for our stay, and the room was beyond stunning. Ali North, the concierge, worked her magic in decorating our room with rose petals, including a heart-shaped arrangement on the bed. It was so beautiful that it took my wife's breath away and created the perfect setting for our wedding day. While rain altered our plan for a beach ceremony, the Surf and Sand team made our contingency plan just as magical. We were married on the balcony of our beautiful room surrounded by loved ones and overlooking the ocean. Thanks to Ali's thoughtful decorations, the space looked spectacular and left our guests in awe. Our reception dinner at Splashes was absolutely exquisite. The Splashes team, led by Julian Lardon, delivered a dining experience that was unmatched. Julian had ensured filet mignon was available not only for my bride but for our entire table, and Patrick, our server, was an absolute superstar! His charm, attentiveness, and professionalism made the evening unforgettable. Sunshine also did an amazing job supporting the service. The food was exceptional -- perfectly prepared steaks, lobster bisque, incredible bread, and flowing champagne and wine. The biggest surprise of the evening came when Patrick presented us with a stunning cake from the pastry chef to celebrate our wedding. It was completely unexpected and tasted as incredible as it looked. Patrick also gave us a congratulatory card from the Splashes team, which was such a kind and heartfelt touch. When we returned to our room after dinner, we were greeted with a chilled bottle of champagne, five chocolate-covered strawberries, and a handwritten note congratulating us on our marriage. This thoughtful gesture capped off an unforgettable day and made us feel so special. The Surf and Sand Resort delivered an experience we will treasure forever. Every team member -- Ante, Tommy, Jeremy, Ali, Julian, Patrick, Sunshine, and the pastry chef -- played a key role in creating this magical, once-in-a-lifetime memory. We don't know if we'll ever have another guest experience like this, but we are deeply grateful for the care, attention to detail, and exceptional hospitality that made our wedding day so perfect. If you're looking for an extraordinary destination with world-class service, breathtaking views, and a staff that genuinely cares about their guests, look no further than the Surf and Sand Resort. We will forever cherish our time here.

Yelp
Deceptive advertising! Pool is not open!!! Restaurant is not open!!! They advertise it and I payed full price but could not swim nor dine and no bar either! Beware of their website! It's not a true representation! I guess they are to worried about loss of income to be honest! No morals! Joe Rothchild The hotel credited me 1 day after I addressed my issues with them. The staff have been super nice. It's the ownership and leadership that are deceptive imo. About pool restaurant etc when they are all closed. They said may be reopen by year end fyi.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our babymoon last week. We were there from Wednesday-Saturday. The staff is very pleasant and polite the rooms are nice, needs upgrades in some areas but they don't feel gross (I'm a hard critic in this area). The only issue why it wasn't a full 5 star rating is the construction. They are re-doing the rest of the surf and sand hotel and the construction is LOUD from 8am-3:30pm every week day and on Saturday (although Saturday was quieter than the weekdays). They were very kind and gave us our parking and resort fees for free since we complained. Just wish they told us before hand rather than waking up to awful construction noises where you can't even hear the ocean. Once the constructions done my husband and I would for sure come back but don't recommend until the construction is done.

Yelp
Beaches in Laguna are some of the best in Orange County, in my opinion. You don't get any closer to the ocean than when you stay at Surf & Sand! It's a classic, well-know resort with great service. The staff were very accommodating and upgraded us to a suite free of charge. Beautiful room with breathtaking views. You could hear the sound of the waves from the bedroom, with the doors closed! So peaceful. Bedding and pillows were excellent, and we slept comfortably. The air was a bit dry in the room, and felt a little musty at times. Might've been better to sleep with the door open, but my anxiety gets the best of me. Loved the shower and the jet tub jacuzzi. Lots of space to get ready and do my makeup as well. Loved the sitting area outside and inside. The 8 am yoga was also great, with a skilled and happy instructor. It was awesome doing yoga by the sea! Pool was also nice, but it was just too cold to do anything. It's also very small and easy for the hot tub to get too crowded. Splashes restaurant is excellent and definitely a must see. Chefs are outstanding. Get dessert! The areas for improvement are access to food or snacks after 9:00 pm. Laguna is a sleepy town, so on Sunday there were only a couple nearby places open (go to taco loco!). Would've been nice to stay in the room and get room service or a snack from a late night bar. The minibar and snacks in the room were a nice touch, but just not enough since we hadn't had dinner. Also, it was difficult to find areas to plug in and charge our phones. One alarm clark with convenient plug ins, but nothing for the other side of the bed. There was an outlet wedged between the bed and the wall that you can't access. So please include another alarm clark or some other options for the second guest to plug in their phone. In addition, the hotel is a bit of a maze with lots of levels and stairs. Hard to navigate at night, and took us a while to figure out where our room was located. The little breakfast cafe was nice, but forewarning if you show up around 9:00 am you'll be waiting at least 30 minutes for the line itself and getting your coffee and breakfast. They are limited on staff and not a lot they can do during a rush. In hindsight, it would've been better if I'd walked right across the street to the local cafe and coffee shop. Overall, an excellent and memorable stay. Really enjoyed our time.

Yelp
Possible this is a Romantic destination with relaxing uninterrupted views of the ocean. However, I was here solo for a work event. Upon arriving at 10pm there was no room service. The only options were the mini bar which would only open with a key- and keys were in limited supply. The ocean sounds on the 2nd floor were slightly too loud for a sleep lullaby. They might sound better on a higher floor than one against a retaining wall.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite hotel right now!! AMAZING views from the room!! Look out the window and the ocean is right there unobstructed. Bed comfortable, bathroom nice, and pool area very clean and relaxing. The best part about this place is the staff. The customer service is top notch. Everyone to valet, maintenance, front desk, you name it, all employees were so nice, attentive, professional, and friendly. Made for a wonderful vacation. When staff is smiling it makes for a warm environment. Definitely coming back next time in Laguna Beach. They blew the doors off the competition for me.

Yelp
My wife and I have stayed here a few times. Great location, right across PCH from the ocean. Nice views from the rooms. The staff is very nice and attentive. Close to a lot of great restaurants and the Coach House. Free parking underneath the hotel. Give it a try!

Yelp
I'm not sure how to adequately describe surf and sand . Beautiful , relaxing , breathtaking ... amazing service , relaxing spa , delightful coffee shop , quaint bar ... delicious dinner with impeccable service and a view to die for . The views here are simply breathtaking and my two days here were not enough !

Yelp
We had an amazing staycation at surf & sand. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Barbara at the front desk was so helpful and answered all my questions, the valet and bellmen are also so friendly and quick to help. there is construction going on but not disruptive. The pool and rooms are so relaxing and then you have beach access to walk the sand. The views never get old. I didn't want to leave!!

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Surf & Sand.(8/21-8/24) From the moment we arrived we found friendly and helpful people. Kevin was our valet, and he helped us figure out what we were doing and where we were going... and he was only supposed to park our car! Then Mike at the front desk was so nice and patient with all of our questions and requests as we checked in (coincidentally he also checked us out at the end of our stay). Our room was clean and well-kept. Of course the ocean view was everything. Even our pup liked to relax on the balcony watching the waves. The sounds of the crashing waves can be loud, since you're so close to them. I found it a bit like white noise while sleeping, but my wife needed the ear plugs the hotel provides. The concierge ladies were always helpful and super knowledgeable. The night manager got hot chocolate just for us when we were disappointed that we missed the s'mores event. Another valet that wore a hat working in the afternoon was also very friendly. Splashes restaurant was really great both times (thank you Mathias, Patrick, and Javier). We had a nice mix of events and relaxation, and we loved our stay here.

Yelp
We stayed here 7/27-7/31. Perfect little family weekend get away!! The boys were in heaven with the view and hotel beach. They loved the activities they had available. Their favorite was watching Minions after sunset by the pool. We played at the beach most of our stay. Waves were great for body boarding. Sand was perfect for sand castle building. The boys and I made a game out of collecting all the seaweed from the ocean. The beach does disappear later in the day. We just moved our stuff to the rocks to prevent everything from getting wet. Walking distance from tons of restaurants and stores, we didn't drive anywhere during our stay. I will warn that they do not have air conditioning in most of their units but that's pretty typical in California. They staff was friendly and brought up multiple fans to help cool the room. They did mentioned they would be updating the rooms to all have air conditioning so we will definitely be looking forward to that when we visit again!! Loved our stay. We will be back!!

Steven W.

Yelp
My wife and I have been coming here for 10 years or more. It's a beautiful setting and we've been able to stay in the winter when they had their sales and could get a room right on the ocean for around $450. They just completed a renovation, the rooms are beautiful, however, their current winter sale has the rooms averaging $1000 a night. Seems like they are pricing out a lot of their existing customers.

Yelp
The old adage that the three most important things in real estate are "location, location, location" definitely applies here. This hotel is one of those rare properties that sits directly on the beach. You'll pay a premium for that luxury. But since the beach was the main attraction for us on this trip to Laguna Beach, we decided to go for it. After reading posts from other reviewers who recommended booking an upgraded room, we reserved a tower room on the top floor with a unique glass balcony railing that gave us an unobstructed 180-degree view of the ocean. Our room itself was nice but the decor and furnishings were just ordinary. On the other hand, the very spacious remodeled bathroom was stunning. There was a deep soaking tub, large marble shower, well-lighted vanity and plenty of space in the dressing area. I had a chance to use the squeaky-clean and well-outfitted fitness room with resistance training machines, treadmills, and free weights. There's an inviting pool area with your choice of comfy chaise lounges in either sun or shade as well as a small spa. Helpful pool attendants are readily available with towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a beach. It's small and narrow, especially at high tide, and the water was a chilly 63 degrees when we were there in late June. While the grounds are well maintained, the 50+ year old building is really showing its age. With the exception of the glitzy mirrored lobby, it still has a very dark and dated 1970s-era beige/brown color scheme. I was told that a renovation of the entire resort has been in the planning stages for a while, so I hope they'll get too it soon. The service throughout the hotel was first class. Everyone we met on the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, well-trained, and experienced in the hospitality business. There's only one main restaurant (Splashes) which I'll review separately. I wish I could say that paying more here than the Ritz Carlton on Maui was worth it. But the value just isn't there, which is why I gave the Surf and Sand only three stars.

Yelp
Luxurious and beautiful Hotel with a spectacular beach view. Service is top notch. Valet parking available which makes my life easier. Room service is the plus.

Some of the most amazing views in Laguna. If it's summer - Get the suite. Dog friendly - the best

Yelp
The entire complex is closed including all restaurants and bars , coffee shops the gift shop and all rooms until the completion of the renovation. Looking forward to returning to the hotel this summer of 2024!

Yelp
This is my fourth stay at the Surf and Sand and the fourth time I have been underwhelmed. Luckily all four times have been work trips, so I didn't spend my own money to stay here (thank goodness). The rooms are tired and not well kept. I have stayed in rooms in various buildings on the property and this has been the case in all of them. Dated fixtures and furniture, rust/dust/mold, not enough outlets, and small and outdated bathrooms. Faint smell of sewage in the bathrooms. The stairways and hallways are not well lit. The bottom level rooms feel like you're going down into a dungeon. The food is good and the catering staff that serviced our meetings were very nice. I wouldn't pay money from my own pocket to stay here.

Yelp
So super sad story. I had to put my dog down today. He was my baby. We ended up in Laguna Beach because that is my happy place. I couldn't bear to go home so my boyfriend suggested we stay the night in Laguna. We booked a room last minute at the Surf and Sand. I/we have stayed here a few times before and had an amazing experience. We wanted a stress free happy vibe. We just checked in an hour ago and so far our expectations have been exceeded from valet to front desk to security. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Lisa was a joy and so accommodating at check-in. She has such amazing positive energy and really ensured we were taken care of in every aspect. Thank you so much!! I inadvertently ran into security to ask a question and David was so down to earth and genuine. He was a delight. I felt taken care of and safe! The valet guys were so on top of things. I left a bag in the car that we needed and they expediently met our request. Nobody knew what we went through today, and we so appreciate the professionalism and positive, helpful hospitality we were met with. Thank you Surf and Sand team for helping make this sad and heartbreaking day that much better. My experience will forever be ingrained in my memories.

Yelp
I booked a stay here for Spring Break, and we brought our two kids here. Booking was great and the entire transaction was smooth. Our entire stay from when we checked in to when we left was so amazing. The entire staff is so friendly and helpful. The place is very nice and clean and definitely upscale. I love the ocean view and how private it was. We have stayed at other resorts in Laguna Beach and there's a lot of foot traffic, here it's very exclusive, and it feels very private and I really appreciate that. I felt very safe and well taken care of. We got the cutest surprise for the kids, a tent, a s'more, and a sleeping bag. Complimentary from the hotel. Our room was an ocean view and it was spectacular. The room was definitely clean and very nice and very quiet I slept really well. The coffee shop was nice and the room service was also good. The pool side food and drinks was also nice and delicious. I highly recommend this place above all other places we have stayed in the area. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Had an awesome vacation at Surf & Sand Resort. Was an incredible experience to stay at a resort right on the sand. The staff was extremely helpful and kind and I couldn't of asked for a better place for my anniversary. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Laguna or Orange County for that matter.

Yelp
This is my favorite hotel I have ever stayed at. Everything from the moment you pull up is top class. The service is great and the workers are always running around to make sure you are taken care of. My favorite part of this hotel is that there are only ocean side rooms. So no matter what room you get, you will have a great ocean view. It is definitely a good place to bring kids. They have a nice pool area, with an ice cream stand poolside. They also have different theme nights throughout the week. The one night they had a s'mores kit for guests to make their own s'mores by the fire pits near near the front of the property. Overall, just a great place to stay in Laguna.

It's a great view and location is like heaven Customer service is great everybody is professional and very knowledgeable one of the best places to visit and enjoy the stay

Yelp
Why I like this better then the Ritz Carlton or Montage! So I have been to both of those that I mentioned above. They both are great hotel but this is an Ocean View property which your balcony is on the ocean waters. You hear, see and smell the ocean and it is so relaxing. Definitely an experience to stay right on the water. We had an excellent service. Lisa at the front desk went beyond to make our 23rd anniversary super special. She definitely is amazing.

Yelp
Gorgeous!! Every single staff I can in contact w here was so incredibly lovely and helpful. The rooms are GORGEOUS! The views from the balcony are insane. And the frosting on the cake? FINALLY, a resort, hotel, any place with an outlet for an iPhone made in the last 5 years! Not just USB. WINNER!

Yelp
Just had a great stay! The views are unmatched and having the access to the beach is perfect. Jeremy at the pool provided great service. All staff super friendly including Ken, Mike, Sal and Norm. Loved the spa and all the kid activities. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I think I am still in shocked. We got married here 10 years ago and it was such a beautiful hotel. Hubby took me back for staycation and I could not believe how RUN DOWN the place is. It's not just one or two little issues. Even for someone who is in love with the location, SAVE your money and stay at the Montage for cheaper!!! We paid over 1500 per night to stay here and end up with NO HOT shower and had to rise in the bath tub that does not drain. Front desk can't explain why they could not fix it and give us 100 dollars off our stay... is this a joke? The room was gross and it's so not worth it compared to all the other places we could have stayed! If you read the reviews, it's not an isolated incident. This place has been poorly maintained and managed for years to get to the state. See the photos for yourself. Yes, management can tell guests renovations are on the way, but you can't charge the rate for a 5 star hotel. I want my money back

Yelp
Staycation for two nights. I know they are doing construction and are/will be charging 5 star prices as if they are the Montage, Pelican Hill, Waldorf Monarch Beach or Ritz in town. But they are not at the level of those properties. First, just physically they are much, much smaller. And the air of class and elegance isn't there. It's that thing you can't describe. You can't buy those things. For a beautiful event/spa treat I'd personally go to the other truly 5 star feeling resorts mentioned above. It's the people, I think.

Yelp
Excellent short stay here. Thank you for everything. The staff is 5 stars for sure. Everyone is super accommodating. I was lucky and got upgraded to a ocean view sweet. I really enjoy the fact that it is a a centrally located. There is very easy access to the beaches. Basically anything you needed, you have access to. Hope that I am not priced out after the remodel.

Yelp
This hotel sucks! Some of the staff are nice, but the grounds are not well kept. The Cabana in the valet front entrance looks like one of those you get from Big Lots! it's kinda tacky! We went for a bite at, "The Splash Bar ",as we were sitting having lunch , sewer water comes out of the floor. It was absolutely disgusting!. Next morning we were awaken to noise on the second level. Sounded like someone was moving furniture. Same day, electricity went out suddenly, called the front desk. They said "oh yeah, sure will send someone down " waited an hour, No one came. We called back up to the front desk and they said...... "Oh by the way the whole building is out"! We ended up taken a cold shower! With no heat in the room! Don't bother ordering room service, it took them 1 hour an fifteen minutes ! After calling to remind them 3 times! Coincidentally,! This hotel is on the same level as a MOTEL SIX with a great views! Do yourself a favor pay the money and go to the Montage down the street!' The Durants

Yelp
Beautiful Location! Beautiful neutral decor Great Firepit area outside where they have live music eith some great musicians. Our favorite is Steve Clark, his beautiful wife Tawny and they call the band "The Zippers" Little kids with their parents are welcomed and encouraged to dance, so you are likely to see dancing family... Couples dancing to the great music... Steve have a beautiful voice and audiences all love him. . It starts with Alisa, the hotel operator. She answers the texts and helped us when we left our portable speaker in our room!!! Alisa is soo kind! The Front Desk Team are terrific. They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with your accommodations. The Car parkers do a great job, they are alway quick and kind. The bag check guys are prompt and extremely helpful. Splashes offers a great Lobster bisque that you will want to enjoy!!! The Manager and Servers at Splashes are all very nice, especially on the main floor level. Special shout out to Pablo and Pedro. We do miss the eggs Benedict. They were always a breakfast we looked forward to. With the Benedict gone, the breakfast is not great. The beautiful view and great service still is compelling but they need to have some better breakfast dishes. All in All it's a 5 star venue and experience! Our favorite beach retreat to rest, get some vitaminad and rejuvenate! Give it a try... You will love it!

Yelp
This is our hundreth time coming here. It's such a nice and relaxing place. My only qualm is that i got bit 6 times at the pool. I stayed at the pool and lay in the big bed nearest the restaurant. They itch so bad im so annoyed. We only stayed 1 night, and the bites were bothersome. I've stratched them, and 2 have sores. I informed the front desk agent, and he was nonchalant. My partner had asked for alcohol wipes and was told to ask the gift shop. We went, and the gift shop referred us to the front desk. We told her they sent us to her... she asked security, and he retrieved some ointment and wipes from, you guessed it, the front desk. See pictures of the bites escalating

Yelp
Going to start with the negatives-The room was really small for the 4 of us , not very clean , the carpet was terribly dirty , baseboards really dusty, sheets smelled musty, no bags in the trash cans , very small beach , maybe 10 feet so we had to drive to other beaches, the whole point of being at a hotel on the beach was to not drive to other beaches while being there so that was a big problem for us , the pool is pretty small even if it looks big in the pictures . Positives - Amazing views ( if you are a light sleeper you won't be able to sleep cause of the sound of aggressive waves ) , the food was amazing , never had such good food in a hotel before! Not toddler friendly due to their balconies being really dangerous. Also this hotel does not have AC , it was really really hot !

Yelp
This hotel is immaculate!!! Their customer service is beyond 5 stars. Warm smiles, pleasant greetings, accommodating. Matt was VERY helpful! It was my wife and I anniversary (little staycation) and he went above and beyond. Grabbing us champagne, waters, chocolates. And did I mention the VIEW!! Our king suite was right on the water and you could hear the waves crashing against the beach. Price was very reasonable as well well. We checked out their restaurant, Splashes, and had a fantastic experience. From checking in to departure it was top-notch! We appreciate people who have a passion and commitment to creating great experiences and going above and beyond. We will be back soon!

Yelp
Five stars for the view alone. This review is purely for the restaurant. The food was good. Service was great. Setting was next level. I would go again. And I would recommend!

Yelp
Took the family here for a little staycation this week and we really enjoyed it. The staff was amazing and friendly. Sandra (concierge) was so helpful and booked our dinner reservations and sent a handwritten card, champagne and chocolate strawberries shortly after we got to our room. It was such a nice and welcoming surprise. Our room was in the "towers" side, 7th floor and ocean view was amazing. When we needed chairs and umbrellas setup on the beach, the staff had it done in minutes. Overall, we had a really great time. Beach was nice and clean. We will definitely go back. Areas for improvement: 1. the pool water would get a milky dirty residue in the deep end. I know this is typical from sunscreens and lotions on the body. I saw a staff member scooping it up one of the times, but I would suggest to make sure staff continues to skim the pool so that you don't see this. Kids were saying eew gross as they dodged the area. I noticed it right away when walking by. It was off putting so staying on top of skimming on a regular basis would help. 2. There was no AC in the room. I know down by the beach it's typical that places don't have AC but for the price I was paying, I just assumed it would have AC. When I called the front desk, he said it was being retrofitted. So not sure the story here, but we had the ceiling fan going and left the slider open all night (which isn't screened) and I still woke up a few times sweating myself. 3. Some more food options would be good. Splashes is a bit overpriced for what it is. Don't get me wrong, we have no problem dropping money on good food, but I have had better food for cheaper. $80 for a 7oz filet is a little comical. We also had breakfast there and it was ok, but again for the price, I've had better. The ambiance was nice though and we had a table next to window overlooking ocean.

Yelp
So ecstatic that I got to play tourist at the Surf & Sand Resort this past weekend. My friend's mom is visiting Southern California and picked the Surf & Sand Resort for her weekend getaway. Of course, I hopped on the opportunity for an impromptu staycation. This resort is absolutely stunning! It sits as close to the ocean as physically possible and has captivating views of the California coast. Laguna might just be the most gorgeous city in existence and the Surf & Sand does an excellent job of highlighting the city's best qualities. The pros: 1. The interior is freshly updated and a number of the units have large balconies that are perfect for people/wave watching. 2. This is one of the few hotels in the area that is dog friendly. Two paws up! 3. The hotel hosts a private beach with complimentary cabanas if you're a hotel guest. 4. The Surf & Sand is walking distance from a ton of restaurants and is home to the tasty Splash Restaurant. You have to order their cheese board! My very few complaints: 1. You have to pay for parking and it's not cheap. The valet clocked me at $40 per night. 2. There is only a single pool and it's not adults only. Screaming kids just aren't my jam. This is the perfect spot to visit for a socially distanced getaway. With balconies this fabulous, I don't see any reason to interact with other humans.

Yelp
We just checked in, but so far everything has been perfect. We were several hours early, but they had our ocean view room waiting for us =) We ate breakfast at Splashes and then headed to our room to change. Our bags were brought to us quickly along with refreshments. Our view is spectacular. We spent the hour before dinner whale watching. It was so fun to see whales breaching and spouting straight in front of us. I love the beach decor and all the fun little touches inside the room. I also love the separate tub and shower that is standard, but still appreciated. The coastal motif is one of my favorites, so this hotel suites me. The sunset was magnificent, and the cove to the left of the hotel when you exit onto the sand is a semi-hidden paradise. We spent hours traversing the tide pools and rock climbing. Don't forget to touch the sea anemones, and have them grip your fingers. (I recommend wearing surf shoes. My feet hurt from the rough barnacles.) I will update if anything changes this rave review after a few nights here.

Yelp
My husband and I booked the Surf & Sand Resort to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. I initially called to arrange a 2 night stay for July 7/8. The staff advised they would upgrade our room to a corner suite given our special occasion which was very nice. About 2 weeks before our stay, I noticed a credit on my card for the room deposit. Upon calling, I was told they were closed for renovations and had attempted to call me, but couldn't reach me. We were extremely disappointed, but ultimately, decided to take them up on rebooking in August when they reopened. We booked August 1/2 and were given the same suite upgrade. Imagine our frustration when we drove 5 1/2 hours and upon attempting to pull into the resort, discovered a mass amount of construction workers instead. We pulled into the next parking lot and I called to find out where we were to park. To our dismay, we were told the resort was closed for renovations and had been since Memorial weekend. We lost it... I advised them we had never been told of the closure, and had driven 5 1/2 hours to get here and celebrate our anniversary. The front desk person attempted to tell me that they left me a message on June 28 about the closure. There is no way this happened - no message, no missed call, and no email either which they had when they confirmed our reservation yet again. The front desk person was offended when my husband expressed his frustrations, but ultimately said she would advise the Director of Reservations to reach out to us and see about accommodating us at another hotel. We waited 45 minutes without a call. I tried calling the hotel again (twice) and no answer. I then called on my husband's cell, and it was answered immediately by the same person. I told her who I was and that we still had not received a call back. She was obviously taken aback as she was no doubt avoiding speaking with me. A while later the Director of Reservations called - also saying she tried calling me but couldn't reach me. My phone was working fine... and we had been sitting waiting for her call so no way she had tried calling us. She proceeded to tell me that there were only 2 places that might have a room for us. We were told The Montage - one of their resort properties as well - was full. The Ranch had rooms, and the Monarch she was still waiting to hear from. My husband and I called The Montage, and they were not full... expensive, but not full, so obviously she lied there too. We had told her we wanted to stay within walking distance of shops and beach, and both options she offered were no where near where we were wanting to be. Ultimately, the front desk personnel at The Ranch assisted us in finding other options (not affiliated with their hotel I might add), and we were able to find a hotel for the night. Not quite what we had originally set up, but it was a clean place to sleep for the night. I am still so upset about the entire way this was handled - from allowing us to book reservations "twice" and not communicating they were closed and truly not working to help find us a room despite their mistakes. The hotel might be located in a nice part of town and along the ocean, but we will not attempt to stay again. If you make reservations - double and triple check to make sure you really have reservations before you embark on a long trip there. Certainly not the kind of customer service one would expect from what is thought to be a 5 Star resort.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here last year for our anniversary and it was perfect. Our favorite type of vacation is to relax, eat good food and go to the beach and this place made that possible. Very nice and elegant hotel with comfortable, clean and plush rooms. Our room was awesome, the bed was super comfortable and our view was gorgeous. We had a view of the ocean - which most rooms do, if not all. We loved having our sliding glass door open at night to fall asleep to the waves crashing. We ate at the hotel's restaurant, Splashes, and it was delicious and had great customer service. I would suggest to go when it is sunset, so beautiful! We also walked to several food places during our stay. It is so nice it is walking distance to so many great shops and restaurants. We loved being right on the beach. The water was cold the time of year we went, but we still enjoyed the beach and ocean. The ocean is my happy place. They have a pool, but we did not go in. We saw people swimming in it and I believe they keep the water warm. Very comfortable lounge chairs by the pool as well. Highly recommend staying here!

Yelp
All of the staff were absolutely awesome. Always felt welcomed and took care of card key issue right away and with apologies. The pool has such a great view and the access to the beach is *five stars* The only down side was because it wasn't that busy, they closed down the pool bar. It was a little of a pain to have to walk a bit to restaurant bar downstairs but it ended up being a cuter bar area anyway instead of a pop up one. The cheese board and drinks were just OK in my opinion I wish I tried something else food wise. Will do next time. Other than that, the ocean views, vibe, and getaway feel is 100 worth it to visit.

Yelp
After a week's worth of meetings in Ontario, our staff was treated to an all inclusive weekend in Laguna Beach. I live close by in HB but had never heard of the place, even though I have often driven past it. It looks quite modest from the street but it's actually 5 stories tall and encompasses three oceanfront towers. They have a semi-private beach, lovely spa, decent gym, large pool, hot tub, restaurant, bar and several large banquet rooms. The rooms face the ocean and offer a spectacular view. The staff is amazing and very responsive. A valet heard it was my wife's birthday and, a few minutes later, our luggage arrived in our room accompanied by a complimentary bottle of champagne and some chocolates. All of the food we had was excellent. The massages at the spa were exceptional and the room was perfect for us. No appearance of staff shortages and the only Covid-type of difference we saw was the staff were fully masked at all times, inside and outdoors, and the rooms are made up upon request, opposed to daily or not at all. Just a delightful stay.

Yelp
We received an engagement gift to come to this hotel and relax before our wedding. We had an amazing time at the hotel and the staff were exceptional. Salvador Cerda went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable. He asked important questions and addressed any issues that came up. I travel often and appreciate the service he provided. Norm Hutton also teamed up with Salvador to make sure we enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
Surf & Sand Resort, perched on the edge of the Pacific with its own beach and an excellent dining experience in Splashes! Surf & Sand is an older resort (think, Holiday Inn from the 70s style) that's been updated to attract families willing to spend $300 and up for a nightly stay. The property has seen serious renovations in recent years and includes a nice shop area up front with coffee cafe and entry courtyard. The courtyard has a nice gathering area with water views and fire pit. Perfect for hanging out while planning the day ahead - or contemplating the day just passed. For a visual treat during the daylight hours, try out Splashes, a beachfront restaurant with a patio that's just above the sand.

Yelp
Unfortunately for the amount of money per night I spent here I was expecting at least a clean room. Other then view from the room, it's old and not well maintained. Refer to photos Room service and all other food/beverages are over at 9 PM- not something that anyone informed us when checking in. There is NO other place to park other then the Valet which cost $45 PER NIGHT. Also not something that anyone would tell you in advance. Over all, we were disappointed from cost to value

Yelp
Decided to treat Myself to a staycation for my B Day & chose this resort based on the reviews & the VIEWS. Pulled up and the valet guys were really nice. Check in was at 4 and I arrived around 1230 in hopes of early Check in as I was only staying 1 night. The front desk gentleman was very accommodating and submitted a request for housekeeping to clean the room earlier but of course didn't make any guarantees. I ate lunch at splashes to kill time and it was yummy. I had the mahi tacos, and within the hr I received a text stating my room was ready!! The pictures do not do the views JUSTICE!!!! Oh man the room was really nice, the views and sounds of the ocean from your room are amazing. The balcony also has carpeting which is nice. The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub. They also gave me a complimentary half bottle of wine & chocolates Everyone I encountered were very professional, polite and accommodating to any requests. CONS: Drinks can be pricey & they also add 20% service charge to each room service request as well as a $25 a night resort fee. so keep that in mind. There's also no AC in the room only heat & the system is super out of date so I wouldn't come here when it's super hot
