Great place to stop. We were staying next door at the NZMCA park and on recommendation visited for coffee and a light breakfast. Staff are friendly, coffees and meal were as mentioned by others, delicious. Would recommend and we would stop in again.

I rarely give a full stack of quintuple stars in any of my restaurant reviews, but this place definitely deserves it. Situated a bit off the beaten path but at the centre of the known culinary universe, the Surf Shack Eatery is where you can treat yourself to an amazing bowl of Tunisian Chakchouka, a plate of gourmet chicken nuggets or a Ha-Waihi Surf Burger washed down with a wide selection of delectable New Zealand Wines. The vibe is vivacious, the decor artistic and the service top-notch. If you find yourself anywhere near Waihi Beach, don't miss a meal at the Surf Shack Eatery. You may even run into former Prime Minister Helen Clark, who I am told eats there quite often.

Surf Shack don’t take bookings so we turned up with a group of 20 for a Sunday brunch not sure if they could fit us in. They did commendably given a group of 40 odd that arrived before us. Still delivered great service and good food with a totally acceptable 30-45 min wait for food given how crazy busy they were. Coffees were good and prompt. Friendly service at all times.

As soon as the food arrives at your table you’re impressed! the presentation is gorgeous and the flavour combos well paired…today I had Miso Mushrooms very yummy, they had a hint of spice , little bits of pink ginger a little green herbs colourful and delightful, my smoothy was vibrant yellow with a pretty pink edible flower 🌸everything is well thought off.. my daughter usually gets the same thing because she was sold on the first thing she tried here the quesadillas long ago Another Amazing dish is the the French toast…I Highly recommend the surf shack for breakfast brunch or lunch you won’t regret it.

We love coming to Surf Shack so welcomed the opportunity to visit on their Friday night event. We arrived about 5.50 and ordered quickly at 6pm as we knew it would be a long wait. It took 1hr40 for our meals to come out and we had to follow up three times. No compensation was offered for this wait and during this time we saw the owner leave - surely they could have stayed on to help their staff out until the rush was over. We ended up having to send our son to the dairy for bags of chips to keep us going. Obviously out of their depth with the crowd, even with simple burger and fries orders. Probably wouldn’t visit on a Friday night again.

Visited for morning tea with my toddler. Quick service, small "cabinet menu" (no cabinet to view items) Enjoyed a great hot long black and a beautifully presented date scone. Good indoor and outdoor options. Bonus was the childrens play house outside.

Brilliant food, we have never been disappointed. Fresh, full of flavour and they have good knowledge of food allergies. Unfortunately no separate fryer for gluten free however they were understanding in being able to swap items out and offer replacement options. Allergies were well noted and highlighted on our order. All dishes at our table were beautifully presented and delicious! Highly recommend the grilled salmon and prawn salad 10/10

We really enjoyed our food and all the great flavour combinations. Your dogs can be with you if you sit outside, which is nice. Family friendly place. Lots of fun memorabilia to check out while you are waiting. It is expensive, so if you are on a budget, this isn't the place to go.
