We were so sure this was going to turn out to be a bad idea, but it was the best vacation we've had in years. It is a charming 1950s cabin which is clean as a whistle. One of us has allergies, and this place had no moldy smell anywhere and nothing to cause wheezing. Laundry facilities are in a separate building a short walk away. If you are flying in, ask them about their linen service.
There is great water pressure in the small indoor shower. Tons of pots, pans, cookie sheets, dishes, cutlery, glasses and mugs for someone who wants to cook. The only thing not there is an Instapot. If that is your thing, you'll need to bring your own. There is a full-size dishwasher, a microwave, coffee pot, oven, and fridge.
There is reliable WIFI, but poor cell service. There is a landline in the house for use. There is a large table in the kitchen which is perfect for puzzles. The TV gets all the cable channels with clear reception.
The garden was lovely and the lilac bush scented the screened front porch and kitchen. We were there in June, so did not need AC, but there are tons of windows with cross-ventilation, ceiling fans in the LR, and 3 bedrooms. There is also AC in each of the bedrooms.
This is a great place for birders and we even had a wild turkey at the bird feeder. The roof deck is wonderful with dappled shade somewhere all day and direct sun on other parts all day. It was so peaceful to sit on the roof among the trees and watch the birds. There is a very sturdy wide wooden stairway on the outside of the house up to the roof. There are wooden railings on both sides. It is about 15 stairs to the roof.
The house has a couple of steps to enter the living room and kitchen level. The bedrooms and bathroom are about 6 step up from the living room. The largest bedroom is the one with the twin beds, but all are fine for sleeping, reading, and dressing.
The neighborhood was quiet in June with an occasional car on the road outside, but nothing troublesome. The ocean is a short walk along a path. There is a bench for sitting up above the beach for those with limited mobility, and there is a parking lot right next to the bench. Long Pond with a floating dock had people swimming in it, and it is about a 10-minute drive from the house. It looked like a small lake with a beach area, if you prefer that to the ocean.
There is a wonderful French restaurant and bakery a mile down the road. It has great baked goods and sandwiches. Peter can give you other restaurant recommendations in Wellfleet.
We enjoyed the Hopper Tour by a local woman whose father knew the painter and his wife. It is a two-hour car tour with no walking. Lots of local information and interesting info on the painter. Not great for photography however, as most of the views have changed since he painted them. http://www.hopperhousetours.com/ .
There is a super yarn shop in Dennis that the knitter in our family recommends https://www.saltyarnstudio.com/ . The owner is non-intrusive but will offer really good suggestions if asked. The shop is large and has a large table to sit down and mull over possible purchases.
If you want to eat well, sleep well, do quiet activities or outdoor activities, and share time with a spouse or loved one, this is a wonderful refuge. It is also LGBTQ friendly. We have already booked next year.
