We WILL be back. The location is everything. It’s next to the beach, it’s next to Coffee coffee which was our breakfast and coffee every morning. Having access to the wetsuits, surfboards, boogie boards was so convenient. kids loved it. Would also be great as a couples stay that appreciate getting out in the sun or to the beach.

You can’t beat the location! Such easy access to all the fun shops and local life and quick access to the beach. The complimentary bikes were a highlight! The only con is the train being so close and occasionally loud at night, but it never woke me up.

I loved staying here! The rooms are super cute and a great size. The location is awesome, you are on a very cool street with a bunch of fun, walkable restaurants. Short walk to beach. There’s no front desk, but the hotel is very responsive via text! I ended up staying additional night and they let me stay in one room until I could move into another- which was very kind and an example of service that goes above and beyond! The street can be a little loud due to the restaurants and railroad, but it does eventually quiet down and it didn’t bother me much.

If you’re thinking of visiting Encinitas, you should seriously consider staying the Surfhouse Boutique Hotel. My wife and I stayed here for four nights and we had the most amazing time and we were extremely sad to leave. The room was perfect, with a very comfortable bed, a mini fridge and a big walk-in shower with plenty of hot water after a surf in the cold winter water. Fresh towels are provided each day and housekeeping do a fantastic job. The owner/manager Nikki is an absolute legend and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He took me surfing twice and even let me use his boards and a wetsuit. I had a fantastic time listening to him and all his local knowledge about the surf and general information of the area. He also took me to a few great surf breaks which I would never have found on my own. The Surfhouse is only a three minute walk to Beacons Beach which is a nice place to surf for those looking for a mellow kinda wave. Also there are plenty of great places to eat within a few minutes walk from the Surfhouse. The rates are completely reasonable and you can bet your bottom dollar we will be back there again sometime for another four nights. Thank you Nikki and thank you Surfhouse for making our stay so memorable.

This is our 2nd time staying at Surfhouse and we love it! The place was super cute and had a nice beach surfer vibe. We could walk to coffee shops, breweries, wine bars, restaurants, and the beach. They also give discounts at places for staying at Surfhouse. The bunkhouse room is perfect for a family, each bunk had an outlet and a little cubby to put your phone/earbuds etc/ and a small reading light! I highly recommend staying here when in town!

Just stayed here for a few days with a friend and absolutely loved it!!! The room was clean, the perfect size for 2 people, and we had everything we needed. This is an amazing spot- the beach is a short walk up the street and there are a ton of great places to eat within very short walking distance. The hotel is just as nice as pictured on the website. We felt very comfortable walking around the surrounding area. I would recommend to anyone looking for a chill, comfortable place to stay with a short drive to many other great San Diego locations.

This is NOT a boutique hotel. There is no one to check you in. It's all via email. I should have left when I saw the ear plugs on the desk. This place is loud! Trains with their horns blaring as they pass by. 4 in one 90-minute stretch after 9pm. Cars on the road just outside and conversations from the parking lot and bars. The room is cold and spars. The bed is just ordinary. The beach is not close. I can't understand how anyone could stay here more than one night. It's clean, though.

Cute little hotel (motel?) in the heart of Leucadia (Encinitas neighbourhood).||Pros:|Location! Super cute little community with a very "small town feel." Easy walk to morning coffee and breakfast. A great taproom, some shops and restaurants are also right nearby. You're a 5 minute bike ride into the main strip of Encinitas and a 5 minute walk to a very quiet beach.||Room decor. Very modern, clean, well thought out. Comfortable beds.||Amenities. Free bikes, reasonable surf equipment rentals/lessons, discounts at nearby shops - all very thoughtful and practical.||Parking is free and onsite.||Cons:|Water temp in the shower. Not sure if this is every room, but we stayed in the room with 2 twin beds and it was a cold shower. Don't think heater is working properly.||Some broken things in the room - shutters - little wand to close the shutters was being held on with tape and wouldn't fully close them; one lamp had a broken switch and didn't work. Merch website also doesn't work.||The trains. The track is literally across the street. We stayed on a Friday and both commuter and freight train horns honked every 10-15 until about 1am. Room has a sound machine, hides the rumble but not the horn.||Soundproofing - can hear a fare bit from the neighbours.||No ear plugs were provided.||If you're a light sleeper, this ain't your place.||Overall:|For the price, the hotel is a gem! Don't think you can get much closer to the beach with a hotel in this town and it's in a great neighborhood. Just note the cold shower and train horn.

Yelp
I love this place!!! My family has stayed here 3 or 4 times o er the past 5 years or so, and always has a great time. It's clean, laid back, quaint, and in the perfect location. The owners/employees are so responsive and friendly as well. I just left after a 5 night stay and I'm already scheming on how to come back before summer ends.

Yelp
If you are looking for a great place to stay that will make you feel like a local, this is the spot! This was my first time visiting Encinitas/Leucadia and it is such a beautiful beach city. Nikki, one of the co-founders, can be seen around the hotel at times checking in on things, socializing with guests, giving recommendations, and making sure everything is running smoothly. He is easy to get in touch with and makes the check in process simple. Surfhouse comes equipped with everything you could need during your stay including bikes, surfing equipment, and even surf lessons! You can book multiple different types of experiences through Surfhouse depending on what your interests are. They are dog friendly and require a small extra fee for bringing your pet which is so worth it. You can bike or walk to the beaches from here and it is close to several shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. There is a train nearby that can be loud when passing through, but that is something you will hear no matter where you are in this town and is not specific to this hotel. The hotel has cute common areas on the ends where you can hang out and chill on the patio. There is even an outdoor shower downstairs where you can rinse off after a day on the beach. There are only 8 rooms total, so you still feel like it is a relatively private place to stay without tons of loud neighbors or overcrowded lodging. The rooms themselves are clean, neat, and have beautiful decor. The rooms have several different setups, so you can book them depending on who is in your party and what bed arrangement you would like (twins, bunk beds, queen). There are several parking spots right in front of the hotel. The Surfhouse management seem to have thought of everything--I highly recommend coming here for a unique local experience when visiting Encinitas or any nearby towns!

Yelp
Literally the cutest, coziest hotel in Encinitas! Fell in love with the decor & beach vibes as soon as I stepped into the room. My boyfriend and I took my parents and our pugs here for a quick getaway, and was able to book two rooms last minute. The owner Nikki was accommodating and allowed us to check in a couple hours early! The hotel is situated conveniently by the gorgeous Encinitas beaches, a variety of shops, and a plethora of coffee shops and eateries. The nightly rate is pretty reasonable for what you get. Plus, they're dog friendly! This was actually my first hotel stay since the pandemic hit and it felt super clean and safe. Free parking is available on-site and we never had trouble securing a spot. The overall experience was fantastic - I'll definitely be back and hopefully stay longer next time to enjoy the complimentary beach cruisers and have more chill time at the hotel :)

Yelp
Why can't all hotel/motels be like this?!?!? This place is hella awesome! Very stylish, functional, and has the technological amenities for a comfortable stay (ie. WiFi, USB hook up, clothing iron, television streaming options). The living quarters are very intimate. There are active train tracks across the street. Although you can hear the train, the trains don't come by frequently. The room even provide complimentary ear plugs, but honestly, you won't even need them. The boutique motel is located along side of businesses where the room doors/windows face a side street, but the neighborhood is very safe, and noise level is low. There are great local eateries in walking distance. There is just enough front parking for 1 vehicle per unit, so I do recommend carpooling if you come. There is optional parking across the main street by the railroad tracks, or the side street in which the front of the boutique motel is located on. I really like the "humanless" check in process. First time experiencing something like that. Although I was a skeptic at first, it worked out really well. Short walk to the beach. It really feels like you get a sense of how the locals in the area live, and you don't feel like a tourist. My stay was for 1 night, and it was an awesome quick getaway. I definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Stayed at Surfhouse while visiting friends in San Diego and had a great time. The room was stylish and the bed and shower were awesome. Loved that they had Apple TV, and phone charging stations. We used the complimentary beach cruiser bikes to explore the town, which has such a cool and unique vibe. Beach and shops are within walking distance and a cute coffee shop is right across the street. Would definitely stay here again and next time hopefully do some surfing!

Yelp
Came to Encinitas for a long family vacation recently. We had a house close to the beach but needed a hotel to stay at for a few days, and we got to stay here. I'm telling you, the whole administrative process was super easy with check in, confirming, and working with them!! We got 2 rooms and they were beautiful with nice size, super clean, great artwork and lots of amenities. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend anyone that is looking for a hotel room in Encinitas to stay here! Amazing rooms, great experience and lots of walking to food/shopping! Can't recommend it more!!

Yelp
Not near beach. Up hill walk 1/5 th mile then down the side of cliff to beach with no apparent toilet facilities and parking for about 10 cars. Management provides ear plugs to drown the horn honkers who pull into and out of the parking spaces located feet from your room. Skip this place and go to Oceanside. Great surfing, reasonable hotels with all amenities and a beach 25 feet below street level.

Yelp
We were in town for a friend's wedding in Temecula, and decided to stay closer to the beach and drive in the day of the wedding. Best decision ever because we absolutely fell in love with Encinitas and Leucadia. And that was in huge part due to Nikki Harth, co-owner of the Surfhouse. When we booked, he sent a list of all the local spots to visit, a place out of town for a date night, and gave us a stellar recommendation for a dog watcher during our stay. We came with an ESA, and they graciously let her stay with us, just making sure we didn't leave her in the room alone. Which we could totally understand. My boyfriend took surf lessons with Nikki, never having surfed before, and had a blast. He fell in love with the ocean, and I couldn't get him out for the rest of the weekend. The hotel is perfectly situated in walking distance to a ton of great restaurants, bars, shops, and beaches. We've been missing the breakfast tacos from Nectarine Grove (next door) ever since we got home. I almost don't want to tell anyone how great the Surfhouse is so it can be our secret spot, but I have to leave them a stellar review. The rooms were gorgeous, we had everything we needed, a comfortable bed, fresh linens every day, the best host in the game, and a TV with Netflix! This will be our forever slice of heaven.

Yelp
We recently rented "Room 9", the Sprinter van. What a great experience, I highly recommend this adventure vehicle. Nikki and the Surfhouse team are the best; they are flexible, accommodating and just great to work with. I will do this again.

Veronica R.

Yelp
This is a great spot - a total gem. Very hospitable and clean. It is located next to a railroad however which is not apparent from any of the information online. But they offer earplugs for those who are noise sensitive. It is still an excellent place to stay. Highly recommend.

Yelp
If you have the opportunity to stay here, do it! Everything was perf: rooms, location, service.

Yelp
Clean. Classy. Casual. Comfy. Courteous. Creative. Coastal Surfhouse Adventures. Love everything about this special place!

Yelp
Super sweet little spot in the heart of Encinitas. We love everything about it...the design and set up is classy AF. Only downside is the noise. They provide earplugs though, which is cool. After one night, we figured out why!

Esra S.

Yelp
İt is the noisiest hotel ı've ever stayed. İmpossible to sleep. The walls are too thin that every noise your neighbours make comes right into your room. Also There is railway right next to it. No wonder they leave ear plugs next to your bed. There is no reception and they don't answer the phone that they give you. They never return your call.

Yelp
Me and a buddy visited the US this summer, and decided to take the trip down to San Diego to try surfing while we were staying in Los Angeles. These guys were simply the best, showing us the beautiful San DIego beaches and teaching us how to surf. They are super-friendly as most Americans are, and truly focus on giving you a good experience during your stay. Me and my friend were first-timers on a surf board so they gave us a short theoretical instruction on the beach before we quickly went out into the water to try our luck. We can truly recommend this to everyone. The guys at California Surf Adventures are fun-loving, and at the same time takes it seriously so that the only thing you and your friends need to worry about is to have an awesome time trying the waves, laying on the beach, eating good food or whatever else you want to do. Do it! I seriously doubt it is possible to get a better first time surfing experience anywhere else!

Yelp
First time me and my friend went to the US, so we decided to take the trip on the west coast, I had a friend of mine who recommended us to travel down to San Diego to try surfing, explore the food etc. Most say that Sander and his brother were simply the best, showing us the beautiful San DIego beaches and teaching us how to surf. They are super-friendly as most Americans are, and truly focus on giving you a good experience during your stay. Me and my friend were first-timers on a surf board so they gave us a short theoretical instruction on the beach before we quickly went out into the water to try our luck. they where really focusing on us having a safe and a good experience. We can truly recommend this to everyone. The guys at California Surf Adventures are fun-loving, and at the same time takes it seriously so that the only thing you and your friends need to worry about is to have an awesome time trying the waves, laying on the beach, eating good food or whatever else you want to do. Yelp
Just a few blocks away from the beach, this gem embodies the essence of Leucadia. Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly, giving the best tips on where to eat and surf! Surfhouse is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing getaway (or even a staycation). We attended one of their events to celebrate their one year anniversary and had a blast! Live music, grilled cheese sandwiches, and a chance to win a couple surfboards. Their interconnectivity to the community makes you feel right at home.

Yelp
I had a recent 3 day 2 night stay at Surfhouse, and it was wonderful The room was clean and charming, with a surf interior design. From my window I especially enjoyed watching people out and about walking, biking, jogging, walking their dogs, and many carrying their surfboards up the street on their way to the beach. There are many restaurants close by, several with music in the evenings. I had a healthy delicious breakfast next door with one of my granddaughters at Nectarine Grove. The check-in process was seamless and I have to say it was great to open the door to my room and get settled as opposed to going through a hotel lobby and then finding a parking spot or getting a parking valet. There is one parking spot for each room right next to the building. It was just a great, fun experience and I will definitely return.
