Such a lovely restaurant! Delicious food. Very reasonably priced, I might add. They let us take some home in a cute Surya bag. A fun detail about the restaurant is that you have to turn the light on your table upside down for the staff to come over to your table and take your order. (The lights change color every time you do this.) It's so adorable watching toddlers in the restaurant play around with this. The little incense corner is also lovely.

Food is next-level sublime. The Lamb Madras? Spicy enough to make my taste buds throw a party (and maybe call for backup). When I ordered, the guy actually asked, with a straight face, if I knew I’d picked something spicy. Me: ‘Uh, yeah, I’m an adult (mostly).’ Normally, they don’t believe me, but this time? Chef’s kiss. Perfect heat, like ‘I-will-cry-but-I’ll-order-it-again’ good. Bonus: They’re open till *23:00*, so when my midnight cravings hit, I can pretend I’m on a SPICY vacation instead of in my pajamas. 10/10, would risk heartburn again. #WorthIt

I recently had the absolute privilege of being able to go to this amazing restaurant. As soon as I stepped foot into the place i was welcomed by exotic smells, tasty food and an incredibly funny and outgoing italian waiter. I think that his name was Lorenzo. The overall environment was amazing and it really felt like I was in Nepal. I had the butter chicken which was spectacular and the momos as a starter which was also very tasty. I would definitely recommend going here!

Might be the best Indian place I've dined at in Amsterdam so far! The staff were very welcoming and lovely, the food was high quality and genuine, and the service was good and food came at a decent speed. Their house wine is fairly decent too!

Loved it! The food was fantastic. The chicken dumplings were very delicious, I would definitely order them again. The Dal Tarka was flavourful and perfect with the naan bread. They also had many nice desert options. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back!

Visiting Amsterdam and came in our first night for drinks and a lite dinner. So wonderful we came back on our final night. The Spinach Dumplings were delicious. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful, helpful. She is a ray of sunshine and gave us other recommendations for our day out and about! If I could - Alessia (sp?) would get higher than 5/5!

While we couldn’t taste a lot on the menu, whatever we tried was really good. The cauliflower wings were very well prepared and the Surya Momo just felt the right thing on the table. Kudos to the staff for the amazing service!

We came here after Google recommended the restaurant to me. There food is simply wow. I had Saag Paneer (which is their name for Palak Paneer) and the taste was sumptuous. The quantity is sufficient as well, even though at first it looked a bit less. The place is a bit pricey though.

Yelp
Food was good. The entree does come with salad which is a nice touch. Pricey but I did enjoy the meal. However, if you need anything packed to go they charge one euro for the bag without telling you and 3.50 euro for eco-tap water. Ambiance is also nice and modern.

Yelp
Food was decent not great not bad Waitress was coughing and coughing and coughing all over the restaurant behind the bar. At the tables. In the back. At the front door. Made it impossible to enjoy our dining experience.

Yelp
I have to admit I'm normally quite sceptic when it comes to Indian food. I don't know it, I don't know where to get nice one and I always fear dry rice with dry sauces, dominated by one spice. Fortunately we have an Indian friend who brought us to Surya. The dishes are perfectly seasoned and finger licking good. I loved the properly spicy mint sauce that we got to dip with a thin and crispy kind of bread. Also the next round was delicious: chicken in a red marinade, fried chicken, fried onion cakes, samosas etc. Thanks to my friends I now know that the "green vegetarian dish with tofu" was actually Saag Panier. But it doesn't change the fact that it tasted fantastic. Like all of the main dishes. I haven't seen so many waitresses in a restaurant of this size in Amsterdam in a long time. There's always someone around to take up your extra order. Friendly and professional. Surya is the right place for an amazing, enjoyable dinner.

Yelp
WOW!! that was a great meal! And awesome music!! Short walk from hotel found a spot recommended on TA and a desire for Indian food drove us to indulge. Started off with some potato and vegetable stuffed Naan (so delicious!) and then onto splitting some Chicken Dhansak and Lamb Biryani. Servings so large I am still full and we couldn't finish it off. A yummy beer to go with my meal and a pleasant walk back. We got the seat in the window which was a premium spot for people watching :)

Yelp
For Indian food, it's a great spot right on the edge of the Pijp. It's a little pricey compared to other similar Indian food places in the area, but good, traditional food, not that I'm any expert in Indian food (but have been to India!) I love naan, and I have to say I've had better. Interior is dark and peaceful, with more of a lounge area in the back by the bar. Overall a nice experience, friendly staff, good food and its an enjoyable eating experience. But don't expect more that that!

Yelp
Can't even express how amazing this food is! The place is a must for anyone that like Indian food. The authenticity is beyond and the service is just as great. Must stop by to try

Yelp
This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Amsterdam (and given that I am from India, it ought to carry some weight!) The flavours are spot on, the ambience is relaxed, the staff is friendly and helpful. Prices may be wee bit higher than some other Indian places, but its worthy. If you are looking for good Indian food, look no further...

Yelp
This really is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been. The staff is exceptionally friendly which in my opinion is very rare in restaurants and cafe's in Amsterdam. We will definitely visit this place again.

Yelp
If you're looking for Indian in De Pijp, this is the place! Best chicken Madras i've ever had, out of all the Indian places i've been. Many refreshing gin and tonic cocktails to choose from. Very fresh and flavorful. Comfy seating trendy decor we felt our dining experience was all around amazing. Even our take out bag was a upscale cloth bag. Only reason I left off a 5 star was because of the service was slightly slacking. If I had needed a refill towards the end of our meal I would have been waiting like 20 mins but, my understanding is most service in Amsterdam can be like this, so I am not too critical. Solid choice!

Yelp
After tying all the Indian restaurant in my area, this defiantly has the best food. The dishes i have ordered are the Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala which have all been excellent and can happily recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Five thousands stars. Extremely friendly stuff. The food was extremely good and spicy, but that's why u are coming to an Indian restaurant, right? Great food, super design...

Yelp
I've gotten takeaway here on several occasions. I've tried many other Indian restaurants (Taj Mahal, Balti House) in the area and I'd say Surya is the best one. It's not the best Indian I have had but definitely the best in Amsterdam I've tried so far.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere, great service and delicious wines from India. We stopped by when we were in the neighborhood and were very impressed. The Tikka masala was excellent!

Yelp
This was the best Indian food I have ever had! Great service and nice atmosphere. Try the butter chicken!

Yelp
my boyfriend and i were looking for a place to eat dinner and stumbled upon surya. it surpassed our every expectation. the low lighting, richly colored taffeta pillows lining the padded seats, and the chill indian-vibed music made us feel like we were at a spa. it was so relaxing. we started with the lentil crisps and 3 sauces that are automatically brought to the table. surprisingly delicious. then we had an appetizer of green pepper stuffed with vegetables and covered in a rich zesty red sauce. the appetizer portions were huge even though we split one order. we scraped our plates clean of the sauce which was unlike anything we'd tasted before! for the main course my boyfriend had the gorka chicken; i had the vegetarian spinach and potato dal. our food was outstanding and we came nowhere near finishing it. this place is a solid five stars based on the food, fair prices, extremely friendly and accommodating service, and beautiful calming atmosphere. ill be back!
