While small, Hobbs' gallery space can house shows for two separate artists. We saw the Liz Magor and Jeremy Laing shows. Magor has a concurrent show at the MoCA. The pieces on view at Susan Hobbs refer to the same visual tropes, on a smaller scale. Laing's work was displayed beginning on the stairs to his second level show. They're fascinating commentaries on the nature of our relationship with visual imagery. Digitally manipulated photos interact with 3D containers and reflective surfaces. We met Laing upstairs. He was very engaging and happily discussed the origin of his explorations and his artistic methods. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
