I had never heard of Sushi Kabuki until Yelp sent a list of nearby restaurants urging me to try them. Since Sushi Kabuki was a straight shot down the road and had great Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try after reviewing their menu online.
We were here on a Saturday shortly after they opened for dinner. We were greeted and told to pick where we wanted to sit. We noticed a booth in a corner by the window, which was sort of secluded.
For drinks, I had a mug of hot green tea while my husband had a Coors Lite. We were pleased to see that they serve both miso soup and salad with their entrees. So many places now only serve one or the other.
I chose to try their "Dinner Box" which consists of: "one main dish of your choice - chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, bulgogi, yummy chicken, or chicken katsu. dinner box served with shrimp and vegetable tempura, harumaki, gyoza, and California roll." I chose to have chicken katsu (all their chicken items are white meat). The food, for the most part, was very well prepared. We never had harumaki, which we discovered, were Japanese egg rolls stuffed with veggies. The gyoza also had a veggie filling. The tempura portion was quite generous -- a good assortment of veggies and two large shrimp. The only drawback was that the chicken katsu was on the dried-out side. It comes with a plum sauce. We both tried it and thought it overpowered the chicken. Otherwise, the tempura dipping sauce and the dipping sauce for the harumaki and gyoza were well prepared.
My husband had the "Tekka Don." His dish consisted of 12 slices of tuna sashimi and a large amount of sushi rice. He thought the quality of the tuna was excellent. Plus, his dish was attractively presented.
We both agreed that the miso soup, which was served piping hot, and the salad, which had been chilled were both quite good. Portions of both were larger than those typically found in other Japanese restaurants.
The ambiance was of a well-decorated place with mellow background music. One thing to keep in mind is that they have a sign outside stating that one can watch sports while dining there. We did notice the TV at the bar. If a game is being broadcast, it can get noisy.
We were both quite full when we left: portion sizes were quite large. My husband willingly shared my dinner box with me, as it had a very generous amount of food. And, yes, we will go again. Service was impeccable.
