Awful food and terrible front of house service. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and were told we needed to wait a few minutes, so we stepped to the side and proceeded to watch the host (literally two-feet away and within direct eyeline) then seat 2 sets of walk-ins who arrived after us. 15 minutes after our reservation was to have started, we checked with him again and he said "Oh! Yeah, um, we'll get a table ready for you". He had clearly forgotten us. The house manager tried to apologize by making lots of bad excuses and then telling us that the sushi chefs were behind and it would be 45-60 minutes for us to get sushi. We should have left at this point but we were hungry and tired. Our server was a nice lady who seemed like she was the glue holding this maelstrom of a restaurant together. She apologetically informed us that they were also out of hot sake. - Really? This is a ski town! - At the suggestion of the manager to order hot food while waiting for our sushi, I ordered the pork ramen. It arrived, 15 minutes after the first sushi roll, and was beyond gross. The pork was greasy, fatty, and cooked in something that tasted like rancid sugar. They also forgot the egg - it's Ramen, people...you have one job. The sushi was also really not good. I know that Mammoth is not an epicurean center but if you're going to have a sushi restaurant you should at least have fresh fish. Our fish tasted old and flavorless (other than "fishy"). Overall, this might be the worst dining experience I've had in decades. I am not at all clear why this place still exists.
