The 23 Best Sushi Restaurants in Tokyo, from Michelin Star Omakase to Conveyer Belt Bars | Condé Nast Traveler

"The casual sister of luxe sushi restaurant Hakkoku , this is one of the few family-friendly places in Tokyo serving sophisticated sushi at a comfortably affordable price. Owner Hiroyuki Sato opened Sushidan as a training ground his young chefs, led by the charming Takehiro Arakawa. The restaurant uses many of the same ingredients found at Hakkoku, including premium tuna from Yamayuki—one of Japan’s most esteemed tuna merchants—and the signature shari seasoned with red rice vinegar. There’s usually a wait at this 12-seat counter inside of the bustling Eat Play Works food hall." - Melinda Joe

My favourite sushi in Tokyo! I’ve had an omakase course here twice, and have absolutely loved it both times. The knowledge and expertise of the chefs is evident, and makes it a great overall experience. They can also make their sushi gluten free - finding celiac-friendly omakase sushi is no easy feat, but the chefs are so accommodating and ensured a great (and safe) experience! Note: would recommend making a reservation in advance and including dietary requirements then if needed. Well-priced, delicious, great atmosphere - highly recommend Sushidan and will be back next time I’m in Japan!

Good Balance between value, taste and location. The back shop looks abandoned and it could be better arranged. Temperature of the rice and fish was very good. Service was good to by a foreigner sushi chef with an impressive Japanese skills. The place is small so i definitely recommend to make reservations. Great for a casual sushi.

One of the best meals of our trip, and by far the best sushi we’ve ever eaten! Loved chatting with our chef who was completely fluent in English. We also enjoyed watching the 6-year-old next to us devour his sushi! This super-small spot (seats 12 at the bar, 6-ish at 2 tables) is truly a hidden gem.

@leo.matsuda is a rising star - stay tuned! You'll be hearing about his omakase show! Great lunch today! First time for me: managatsuo fish - excellent taste! Extra-points for sardines & mackerel and especially for eel! ---- Funny story: on google maps the place is a little bit misplaced - take care! Enter Eat Play FoodHall - Sushidan is the last one! At first we followed the pin, waited till 13:00 sharp to open - right on time for our reservation! One old guy showed up and declared: shoes off! Even though it seemed surprising, we did not object to taking our shoes off. After all, we're in Japan! Then we enter the small tatami place - nothing resembles a restaurant. Or it looks like a very old and quirky one. Lots of keys on the wall and no sign of food. After insisting that we have a reservation, we finally found out that we were not inside a restaurant but at the community ONSEN Hiroo-Yu! :) And thus we also got the explanation about why there was a bunch of old people waiting in front of the doors before opening: initially we thought they were the sushi masters! No surprise in Japan, wouldn't it be, right? It's pretty common to have a 70+ old as most appreciated sushi master :))

We were looking for an omakase in Tokyo and Sushidan had such good reviews. And we chose right! Sushidan is a great restaurant and we had an excellent experience! We were served by itamae Leonardo, which spoke English (and Portuguese as well, in our case), which was great because he explained to us every dish and we had the opportunity to talk to him while savoring our sushi. We went during lunch and ordered the omakase meal with 12 pieces with sake and two additional pieces of sushi, recommended by Leonardo. It was a really great experience! We thank all the team from Sushidan ありがとうございます!

Our first Omakase experience, and it didn't disappoint. The Sushis were fresh, we have no complaints. They even gave 1 extra course.
