Amazing paitan ramen and great takoyaki too - super crispy and the octopus is tender. One of my top 5 ramen spots in NY

I ordered the Deluxe Ramen, which had a very gentle and comforting flavor. The ramen included finely chopped onions, and since I’m not a big fan of onions, I personally would have preferred it without them. When I added the black sauce, it brought out a strong garlic flavor, so I could enjoy both the light, delicate taste and the bold garlic punch in one bowl. The noodles were on the thicker side, and for me, they didn’t pair perfectly with the soup. The service was excellent, and the interior had a nostalgic feel, almost like a traditional countryside ramen shop in Japan, which I really loved. For appetizers, I ordered the karaage and gyoza, and both were delicious. The karaage looked simple but was perfectly executed, and I absolutely loved it—I’ll definitely order it again. The gyoza also tasted handmade and was very flavorful. They also have a great selection of sake and beer, which makes me want to come back again for sure.

Google
Loved their spicy wings. They came spicy with a light nose of yuzu which made them taste so special and delicious. The Tan Tan Ramen we tried was good too, the noodles which I believe are homemade came in a perfect firmness were my favorite. Just a cute, minimal stylish spot with delicious place that run by friendly Japanese crews that we will definitely keep coming back to!

Google
At this bare bones ramen shop with tables furnished of plywood, you’ll find one of the best paitan chicken broth ramen bowls around. Chicken Kara-age was perfectly crisp and juicy, while deliciously seasoned. House made dumpling were on point. Chicken Paitan with pork chashu was light yet balanced (fat-salt). Really good.

Google
Ramen was delicious, the pork buns were out of this world. I preferred the tantan ramen to the susuru, but I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The service was very good and the prices were reasonable!

Google
Here's the ramen snob... Ok, so I love ramen and I read that it was one of the best ramen joints in Queens/Astoria. We had the octopus balls--takoyaki I think they were called. They were good. I had the deluxe ramen as I thought it would be the best on their menu and thus, I could compare it to other ramen I've had elsewhere. It stood it's ground but I think I've been to many other places that were better. The dining area is small and, given the hype, we had to wait to be seated. However, there is a nice bar catty-cornered to this place where you can sit out the wait with a drink in hand.

Google
The chicken broth is rich and tasty, and I’m pretty sure they make their own noodles, they’re that good. Don’t skip the crispy takoyaki; it’s always a winner. Highly recommend!

Google
My boyfriend and I recently dined here and absolutely loved it. We ordered the gyoza and takoyaki which were fantastic, especially the latter. The takoyaki was a perfect size, not to big or small, battered crispy and the octopus inside was a great texture. I had the miso ramen with extra corn (and they give you a good amount when ordering extra) while my boyfriend had the gyokai ramen which were equally delicious in their own way (the broth was delectable and the toppings complimented them well). We would 100% recommend visiting here and will be returning ourselves!

Best Ramen!!! Tried the poke bowl for the first time today, it was good but the Ramen is what shines. My favorite Ramen place in the city.

Yelp
Tiny hole in the wall ramen joint in a more lowkey residential part of Astoria. It is very easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. There are a few tables inside but I do not recommend for large groups. I got their paitan ramen which is chicken broth based with a unique twist on chashu (leaner cut with a chew similar to ham). The broth is satisfying, not heavy and did not leave me bloated. The noodles were chewy and is the wavy thick style. I also appreciated how it comes with a full softboiled egg by default (not a half egg like most places). I also enjoyed the spicy bite of raw onion that was added to the broth. The only ding for me was that my ramen was supposed to come with bamboo shoot topping per the menu description but was a bit disappointed that it was missing. But still would like to come back and try the black garlic oil next time.

Yelp
Ramen was exactly what we needed on a cold December night! - restaurant is quite small with only about 10 tables. Went around 7:30pm and waited about 15-20min which isn't too bad - there was only 1 waitress working but she seemed friendly and nice - we got the Kuro and Miso ramen, they use the thick wavey noodles so there's a nice chew to them - Both $17 each and and also came with 2 thick pieces of chasiu and 1 ajitsuke tamago (ramen egg) - would give this a 4/5 in taste as well as the broth was a little thicker than usual and temperature was on the warmer side than hot. kuro noodles were on the more Al dente side while the miso noodles were softer and cooked more - good alternative if you're craving ramen and don't want to go into the city

Yelp
Quick, delicious, no frills ramen spot tucked away on an unsuspecting avenue in Astoria. After reading rave reviews here I came on a weekend to grab myself a bowl, and was surprised at how long the wait was to get in even though I'd come fairly early in the evening. We put our names down, and after around 30-40 minutes of waiting tables started to turn, and we were ushered in. This place does need to turn tables due to its popularity, so if you're here for a leisurely meal, no you're not. We were seated, given water and menus, and around five minutes later our server wanted to know whether or not we'd made a decision. My date got their vegetarian option, and I went with the gyokai, a seafood based ramen, which was rich and flavorful. One thing that got me here was the price of chili oil. Charging a dollar for a little extra squirt seems steep to me, but whatever, it helped take my ramen to the next level. Definitely will be back here.

Yelp
Do you live around? Stop! Oh you are so lucky!! that to have this place... is because it's really the authentic ramen that you can find in Queens!! In the cold weather This place is such an oasis and easy to warm yourself up :) They do have some craft beers which is the fun part hanging with friends! We jumped in around noon. the lunch time had just began! The place immediately got packed with locals. A friendly Japanese waiter welcomes you with great recommendations! We ordered Karaage (Deep-fried chicken) and Gyoza for appetizers! They wow you for sure. and I really appreciate how they served them before ramens. Such a Japanese way of treats when you are having drinks with. After that we all got different ramens! I got Miso one and was amazed with the fresh pulled noodles!! and Hot enough soup, Broth, all that.. we all got a happy food comma... now I miss it already! See this?5 Stars!

Yelp
A very solid ramen joint in Astoria! The chicken karaage was 10/10, huge chunks of meat, perfectly seasoned with extra black pepper on top, and very crunchy. The aioli was like a spicy mayo. I got the kuro ramen which is their normal ramen with charsu pork and black garlic oil. The broth was delicately light and the addition of chopped raw white onions makes it perfectly fragrant. The pork was smoky and well seasoned. It was the perfect comforting bowl in the winter time. It was about a 30 min wait for 2 around noon on Saturday.

Yelp
Susuru is quickly becoming one of my favorite ramen shops in New York, especially since I now live within walking distance to it. The chicken based ramen broth is really flavorful and the noodles are wavy with a good bite to them. My favorite order is gyoza and chicken karaage to start, following up with the Kuro ramen that comes with the black garlic oil, pork, egg and diced onions. It's a cozy little shop with a few tables, but the service is so friendly. Honestly it makes it feel like I'm back in Japan. It's totally worth making a visit here.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday around 1 PM with a friend, there aren't too many places to sit so I'm glad we came when it was not too busy. when we were leaving about an hour or two later it was a little bit of a wait. Had the Kuro Ramen, which was super delicious and would definitely recommend, along with an IPA.
google avatar

Vivene M.

Yelp
The place is very small, but the wait it was worth it! I felt bad for the server because she was the only one serving all those tables, but she was very nice and welcoming and always make sure that we were OK. We both got Ramen and for appetizer's we got the bao buns, which were delicious and also, the Japanese fried chicken everything was 10 out of 10 would definitely go back!

Yelp
I have only eaten the takeout here so I cannot comment on the dine in experience but the food is fast and the staff are friendly so I'll assume it's as good as the food. The ramen is top notch. The broth is deep and rich and I could not stop eating it. The noodles have the perfect chew and the toppings are fresh. The perfect ramen. 5

Yelp
Food: ramen was so yummy!! I think it's the best I've had in nyc. The pork was also seasoned well. The egg was cooked perfectly. Black garlic oil added such a nice flavor to the broth. Takoyaki balls were delicious and had a lot of filling. Service: we were seated quickly and food was made pretty fast as well. Server was nice and attended to our water needs. Ambiance: clean restaurant. Nothing to complain. Good amount of seating and wasn't overcrowded.

Yelp
Relatively good ramen spot with good quality ramen and okay atmosphere in restaurant. It can get a little loud and the service here is pretty slow though (there was only one person working as a waitress and hostess). We got the chicken karaage, which was pretty good not too salty, the susuru paitan, which had a nice light broth, and the deluxe, which has a much heavier garlic-y taste but was also pretty good. Overall, would recommend!
google avatar

Gloria Z.

Yelp
I love that the menu isn't overwhelming but still has a nice selection. The kuro is my go too (that black garlic oil ) I'm generally not super into ramen but this place feels homey, authentic, and the broth is great. Cha shu slices were thick. Nice staff. Even their take out containers keep flavor and quality in mind!

Yelp
first thing I noticed walking in was the small space but the second thing was how many parties I heard speaking japanese which is always a good sign for a ramen place. while ive personally never been a fan of chicken-based ramen it seemed like susuru's specialty so I wanted to try it and the deluxe ramen definitely overdelivered. the soup was flavorful and rich without feeling too salty and toppings were of the highest quality. First time tasting onions in ramen but they fit well here. Place was packed for friday lunch and there was a small wait which is crazy considering the location of susuru - maybe speaking to the regulars they have. im going to try chicken ramen again next time I get ramen.

Yelp
Stopped by for quick lunch and delicious and quick it was! We risked it with a walk-in around 2 pm, and got lucky to get a table for five with a 10 min wait. The place is relatively small and has about five tables (which include three x 4 seater tables) Got straight to ordering which included Garlic Edamame ($7), Imo Tempura ($8), Gyoza ($9), Veggie Miso ($17), Kuro ($17), Tantan ($17), and Susuru Paitan ($16). All were delicious and I recommend getting all with Spicy Chili Oil ($1) if you enjoy spicy ramen! Service is quick and food arrives within 20 minutes. Noise levels were on the lower end and the staff is friendly and kind.

Yelp
Yet another eatery I try out secondary to social media. I did not know of the existence of this place up until a few days ago. I am glad that there are more authentic Asian restaurants in this neck of the woods. I am not sure if all their ramen broth is chicken based, but both the ones we ordered were. For me, it was different. I wouldn't say "different bad" but couldn't say "different good" either. The noodles were at a perfect al dente. Their chashu also came across as different; firmer than what I am accustomed to and also sliced thicker than most ramen shops (in my experience). They serve their gyoza on a miniature cast iron skillet, pretty nice, but fall short at how the outer wrapping/layer simply fell apart (every single one) when you pick them apart (as they were all stuck together). My 12 y/o felt the tuna poke bowl was good and plentiful. The place is very small, as I am sure you can discern from the pictures, the tables are made outta that plywood that looks as though they compressed wood scraps (but they are finished with paint and varnish), you sit on stools and there is little room for personal belongings as many small Japanese eateries. We went in for late lunch and it wasn't very busy. Service was fairly quick and we were satisfied.

Yelp
A nice ramen spot in Astoria. Small restaurant and there's usually a small waitlist during dinner. One server but they are efficient and food is worth it! Food: Gyozas - in such a small cute cast iron pan and fried so well. Oily, juicy pork! Takoyaki - also great presentation. I love how they are extra fried on the outside and soft on the inside with great octopus flavor. Tantan - not spicy but nice rich and slightly creamy flavor. Susuru Paitan - chicken broth, and good portion of meat. For both ramens, they add chopped raw onions to the topping which adds a nice flavor to the broth but for me personally, I did not enjoy the bites of raw onion. Love how they provide a whole soft-boiled egg that is cooked to perfection. Everything else: Service is friendly and efficient. The appetizers came out as they were ready and the ramen came out together which made it nice when eating with a group.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant feels tucked away and unassuming, but each table is filled the minute you come in. It feels like a homey authentic Japanese ramen joint. When we arrived on a Monday for lunch, there were 2 groups in front of us, but since we were only 2 people, we got our seats quickly. Parking was easy to find since we were fairly close to the residential part of Astoria. We sat down. Menus were simple to read -- only a few things to choose from, which is good. We ordered the pork gyoza, miso ramen, and a bowl of kuro ramen. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. The pork gyoza was fried on a small skillet that they bring to you. Hot, flavorful, and juiciness from the soup inside -- definitely a great pairing. I ordered the miso ramen -- the chashu pork was quite generous and tender, the chicken broth was flavorful with fats, and the noodles had the right amount of bounce that I enjoyed. The ajitama egg was soft and what I expected from an egg. All these different components made the meal quite fulfilling. I left full, but not stuffed. The service was great. It seemed like there was only one server and she was friendly, welcoming, and quick. Water was always filled. I would recommend coming here and will probably stop by next time to try the Susuru Paitan ramen. Something about the color of that broth entices me.

Yelp
My partner and I were craving some nice good real ramen so we revisited Susuru! On a snow day at like 6pm they were pretty busy but they cleaned the table quickly and we were seated within ~10mins. This time I got soupless tantan and my partner got delux ramen. We also got gyoza for an appetizer!! Coming from Japan and being away from home, I am very grateful to have such an authentic ramen restaurant nearby! The food was delicious and especially the gyoza really reminded me of any ramen restaurants back home. My partner said the gyoza was the best he's ever had and the chashu in the noodle was again, nothing like what he's had before. And i agree, they are really really good. Inside has a nicely lit wooden accents in the restaurant. I love that they sometimes have Noren out there too!

Yelp
Susuru is a ramen shop on 36th Ave serving some of the tastiest noodle soup in Astoria. Service is prompt and speedy, and the food is delicious. The chew of the noodles, the mouthfeel, is an elevated experience. It's a small restaurant that gets busy during peak hours, but they move fast. They also conduct a brisk takeout business. I recommend the Deluxe ramen for an indecisive first-timer. There's a lot of deliciousness in that bowl, including the aromatic and flavorful black garlic oil. The tantan ramen will appeal to those seeking a spicier profile, though I found it to be on the mild side. For appetizers: takoyaki, karaage chicken, and gyoza are classic and satisfying options. Susuru operates at such a high level of quality that you can't go wrong following your instincts and ordering whatever sounds best. I also like that their selection of beer and sake includes interesting fare that you can't find just anywhere.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came on a weekend a little bit after it opened and the place filled out quick, there was waiting list in place soon after. There was only one waitress working so it took some time but I think it was worth the wait! We got 3 appetizers, the takoyaki, chicken karaage, and gyoza. All were so good and you could tell it was made fresh. Every came out smoking hot and delicious! Everything had a great flavor. The takoyaki was exactly what I was expecting and what I wanted, a little crisp on the outside and soft on the inside with good flavor. The karaage was so juicy and crunchy. And the gyoza, omg the gyoza, it was probably my favorite. The wrapper was so thin and crispy it was perfect and the filling was delicious! I got the Gyokai, which is a seafood based ramen, and my bf got the deluxe. I absolutely loved both. Both so flavorful and rich, it warmed me right. I really liked their chasiu too it was really tender. Overall I loved this place, it was nice and cozy and I think reasonably priced! It was a great fix for a ramen craving. Would highly recommend if your in the area.

Yelp
There are so many ramen place in nyc now and this place is one of the top on my list. I can taste the authenticity and creativity. We started with gyoza and it came in sizzling cast iron pan. Delicious! The spotlight should go to the ramen. We ordered Kuro and the special cold ramen. They are creative ramen that we would like to taste. And they do not disappoint us. The broth of kuro was rich with flavors. So yummy. And the chasiu was not the typical pork belly. It was smoked pepper pork. I really like it!! My husband had the special cold ramen, which I was skeptical. However, it blew my mind. The cold broth was flavorful and rich. Very delicious ramen, which I want to order for myself. This was my happy meal!!
google avatar

Yelp
My visit here was perfection during one of the first cold afternoons this season. A small establishment that thankfully didn't get too overcrowded while we dined. The server plays every role: hostess, server, runner, takeout manager, cashier, etc. You can see that service slows down a bit with just one person doing everything. But as long as you're not in a rush, this is a delectable experience. While the ramen was good, it didn't stand out too much more than any other quality ramen restaurant. The chashu pork, though, was noticeably better than other ramens I've had. The standout, however, was the takoyaki appetizer! Absolutely the best I've ever tasted. Perfect batter, octopus chunks, flavor, everything. And it arrived on an adorable molded serving dish so that every little ball had its own little snug fitting place. I can see why this place has near perfect ratings. You almost don't want to post about it and attract more crowds!

Yelp
3.5 stars?? This was one of the top 10 ramen places in NYC according to Beli so I decided to try it out. Came on a weekend night at around 7pm and had to wait 30-40 minutes for a seat. Reminder that you have to go inside and ask the front desk lady to be placed on the list as there's no sign up sheet outside. While we waited, my friend and I biked to Levain and ate some cookies which is always my favorite restaurant hack - eat dessert while you wait, life is short anyways. I ordered the Paitan Ramen and I thought it had some elements that were pretty good, and other ingredients that were meh. I appreciate the lightness the chicken broth although it felt a bit watered down. I thought the chasu was pretty interesting as it kind of reminded me of pastrami with the seasoning rub on its outside. Also I appreciate it was thick cut. The other parts of the ramen were not great - I didn't love the egg as it didn't have enough flavor and the noodles itself seemed like it came from a packet. Overall, would not say it's a top 10 ramen in NYC. However, +1 for the hardworking service lady who was handling the entire front facing part of the restaurant by herself.

Yelp
Food; Ordered the Kura - a chicken based ramen. Pretty good. Noodles were good. My girlfriend ordered the Tantan. I would order this one if I came back. The spice they added gave the soup a nice spicy peppery kick. Pretty good soup if you like spice. Takoyaki were excellent. 6balls with great octopus to breading ratio. Crispy, hot and delicious. Ambiance: Small restaurant that does well with the space. Service; Had only one server and was so so busy. Service was great. Water refills. Food came out quick and orderly. Will come back again for the Takoyaki and Tantan next time I'm in the mood for chicken based ramen in the area. (Definitely still a pork ramen guy though)

Yelp
Deluxe ramen is crack. $17 bucks a bowl. Five pieces of succulent chasiu. Big fan of Susuru

B T.

Yelp
A rare perfect meal with never-tasted-before standout flavors, as avid ramen-goers. The soupless tantan was exceptionally delicious. The buns were also impressive--the shrimp in cutlet style and the tofu generally are less-often-seen bun options. Each sauce and oil was wonderful. Interesting selection of drinks. Very small space, somewhat crowded and with hardworking but understandably slow service.

Yelp
The gloomy and rainy weather inspired me to have some ramen today. Walking into Susuru, the restaurant looks very simple. The walls are lined with plywood. The tables appear to be made of scrap wood and finished with a thick, transparent coating. Most of the seating is compromised of short wooden stools. It's certainly not intended to be a place to lounge around or glamour at the decor. This is a place you come for ramen. I arrived shortly after opening on a weekday. There was couple before me and another gentleman who walked in afterwards. Everyone ordered the ramen. While I was there, I noticed a continuous stream of delivery orders; it seems this a busy takeout spot too. Lots of credit to the hostess who was also the waitress, buser, cleaner, and order-fulfiller. It's a small but mighty operation. I opted for the hallmark item: the Susuru paitan ramen. I requested the additions of nori and a spicy chili oil at $1 each bringing the bowl and those two additions to a total of $18. I skipped on beverages though they do have a limited offering of craft beers, Japanese beers, and sake. Every element of the ramen was delicious! I'm not sure if I was super hungry or craving ramen for a while, but everything just seemed perfect to me. Starting the rich, badge colored chicken based broth. Very savory broth with medium viscosity. It's one of the lightest, opaque broths I've come across. I wouldn't have guessed it was chicken based with how fatty and creamy it tasted. The roasted pork chasho was decadent. The quality pork would seem just as fitting on an upscale charcuterie plate as it does in the bowl. The soft, fatty bits of the pork were my favorite. The bowl also came with a medium soft boiled and then chilled egg. The inclusion reminded me of a century egg. Despite the colder day, I liked the thermal contrast the cold egg provided in comparison to the hot soup. Not to be overlooked were the bamboo shoots. I believe these might have been pickled. They provided a nice crunch to the dish. I liked the additions of the nori and chili oil though they are in no way necessary. Lastly, we cannot forget about the eggy ramen noodles which were cooked to a chewy al dente. These were so good that I wouldn't be made at you for ordering the brothless mazeman. Service was fairly quick considering it was a very busy and possibly understaffed operation. There was one gender neutral restroom which I believe was handicap accessible.

Yelp
Cute spot for ramen in Astoria! There's limited seating so if you come during peak hours, there'll likely be a wait. Seems to be a family owned business and wait staff seems short handed since turnover was quick but there wasn't anyone to clean up fast enough. However, the lady was super sweet! Ramen was solid - I got the gyokai and broth was delicious! The chashu pork is slightly different than the typical chashu pork at other ramen spots but still yummy! We got the chicken karaage and takoyaki as apps, which were solid.

Yelp
Even though it's summer, sometimes on a cooler day, ramen can still hit the spot. I'd been eyeing this spot for a while and wanted to try it out and we finally got to! Susuru is a smaller shop and when we arrived they were full. The wait time wasn't terrible so we waited about 15 minutes or so before being seated. There was one waitress serving all the tables and though she was super busy she did her best to be attentive even though it took her a bit longer (understandably). We ordered some drinks: Kobe Sake, Feels Like Home (cider) and Lucky Cup Sake. The sake was served in the glass style cup which was cute. The cider was a bit dryer than I preferred but the can was pretty huge so it was good value. My partner enjoyed the sake (he tried one chilled and one heated). For food, we ordered one shrimp katsu bun to try, an order of the crispy takoyaki, the Deluxe Ramen (5 pcs of pork) and the Tantan Ramen. The appetizers were really solid. This was my first time trying shrimp katsu and the shrimp was fried well, was super crispy and the added sauce with the bun made for a great combo of flavors and textures. The takoyaki was made well too and I remember being surprised because you could actually see the chunks of octopus in there! The pork pieces in the ramen are on the leaner side. My partner enjoyed it though if you're a fattier chasiu fan I'd note that for you (I tend to be). The tantan had a small kick and was to my liking. There weren't as many pieces of ground meat as I've seen in some Tantan and some of the pieces were a bit smaller so they got lost at the bottom of the bowl (also normal but somehow I noticed it more here). All in all, we enjoyed our meal and would come back! Definitely get the appetizers, I'm curious to see how other items on the menu are!

Yelp
This spot is like a hidden gem, the ramen is heart warming especially with the black garlic oil add on. The karage also never disappoints. It's my go to for ramen nights, the wait could get long though since there's limited seating and they close early.

Yelp
I had the veggie miso during my latest visit, and now I've tried every different broth here. This dish was still so flavorful but clean compared to the meat broths. I'd get this if I was sick and wanting something comforting. Not my first choice - Susiru Paitan still holds that.

Yelp
Stopped into Susuru Ramen on a Monday evening around dinner time. We were immediately seated with no wait, and they seemed to have moderate walk in availability. We were given water as soon as we sat, and the kind staff made sure our glasses were never empty throughout the entire visit. I ordered the TanTan ramen and my friend ordered the Miso ramen. Both had flavorful broths that we really enjoyed. The egg included in both soups was cooked to perfection with a nice runny center. If you don't finish all your broth, they have an option to order an extra side of noodles to eat with your remaining broth. Makes for a great takeaway meal too! The ambiance felt very "hole in the wall" with an obvious Japanese flare. It was very cozy and comfortable and we enjoyed our time there during the meal. Would recommend a visit here if you're in Astoria and find yourself craving ramen!

Yelp
Visiting from the Bay Area and decided that ramen was needed during the cold weather. SUSURU delivered ! Amazing appetizers and beer... and probably one of the best ramens I've ever had. Quality is everything here. The taste will have you wanting to keep eating more and more. We ordered the garlic edamame, chicken karaage, and deluxe ramen. The food just kept getting better as we ate. We also drake some of their local beers and sake, making the experience even better. If you're in town and walk across SUSURU - WALK IN! Eat and enjoy. Tell them someone from San Francisco visited and told you this place is HIM. Thank you!

Yelp
In a place like NY with so many food establishments, let alone ramen restaurants, Susuru in Astoria is my favorite ramen spot. I absolutely love this place and come at least once a month. It's a cozy, mom and pop, local restaurant in Astoria. There's always only one server, but they're very attentive and always have great suggestions, especially with their rotating drinks menu. Apps / Snacks - Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, and Takoyaki are always fried to perfection with a nice crispy outershell. Ramen - they offer 8 types of ramen on their main menu with 10 add-on options. After trying most of their menu, I can honestly say that you can't go wrong any of them. The noodles are perfectly al dente with a nice bounciness to it. The broth is chicken, seafood, or vegetable broth. It's still rich in flavor, but not overly salted and not too heavy. I really enjoy the Susuru Paitan and Miso for a classic bowl of ramen. As a seafood lover, I'm also big fan of the Gyokai. If you want more depth and flavor dimensions, go for the Kuro. Want something creamier? Go for the Tantan. It really does come down to the flavors and toppings you're feeing for when you go in because every bowl feels like a warm, comforting hug. If you love Susuru as much as I do, you can purchase merch too!

Yelp
Such a gem and a cozy ramen place. Came here today on a Saturday afternoon because was craving for noodles/ramen due to rainy/windy weather. We got seated right away and it got packed in one hour. We ordered fried chicken and takoyaki to start with. Both of the appetizers were great! Chicken was covered by cheese. We ordered the original ramen and miso ramen. I didn't really like the texture of the pork, ramen and soup base was great. Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
The ramen here is sooo delicious. I ordered tan tan and my boyfriend ordered the deluxe and we both liked what we ordered. Next time though I would definitely order seaweed to go along with my ramen since I did know it is served separately. Service is amazing, one server but she was attentive. Small space and there was a waitlist when we got there.

Yelp
Decent ramen. Spicy wasn't too spicy for me but I like that. Great filling didn't disappoint. Did take out-- and for take out everything was packaged great! The quality of food was still there. Taste and texture were great I only gave 4 stores because my husband who LOVES ramen ranked it. But overall I would order again.

Yelp
What a hidden gem. This is the best ramen in Queens hands down. I'm a huge Tan Tan guy. I should honestly make a collection on here with all the best tan tan ramen options. The hype train for this place grew really fast, so of course I was skeptical. But I went, it was busy and they had a sign in, which they will call you when a table is ready. And everything I had was fresh and phenomenal. My only food complaint would be that I prefer to have my noodles softer. The Chashu pork is the best in the city... I'm telling you. Pros: Fresh well put together ramen Cost effective compared to the other "top ramen" spots in NYC Great appetizer options Quick Eats Cons: Limited indoor seating No outdoor seating Limited staff, usually only 1 waitress running the whole show. (Taking orders, writing down names and numbers, cleaning, handling deliveries)

Yelp
One of the best ramen spots I've been to in NYC that consistently serves up excellent ramen, apps & craft beers. The space is cozy and no-frills with 8 tables seating about 22 ppl total. It's the type of spot that you come to eat good food and leave once done, no lingering or dragging out your visit just keep it pushing. There's a small staff - 3 chefs and 1 host/server. Service is excellent and wait times low - my partner and I arrived at 6:10pm on a chilly Saturday and the restaurant was full. I put us on the waitlist and we were seated within 10min. We ordered drinks, apps and ramen & paid the check by 7:05pm. Everything is paced well. Food, service and ambiance are consistently 5/5. Definitely try the unique seafood broth ramen (gyokai) and tip your server well!

Yelp
A mom and pop restaurant that I will always continue to support and recommend to friends! I have tried many things on their menu and I can attest that everything is absolutely delicious and you can't go wrong with ordering anything off their menu. The Chicken Karaage ($8) is a must order dish and the aioli that comes with it is chefs kiss. The Shrimp Buns ($5) are a good appetizer as well. The shrimp is well battered and the sauce ties it together perfectly. For ramen, it comes down to what you're in the mood for and your preference. As a seafood lover I always go for the Gyokai Ramen ($17). The broth is so rich and hearty and it's always perfect on a cold day. My partner always goes for the Deluxe ($19) which is very flavorful with the garlic oil. Keep in mind that this is a small establishment and at times there may only be one person taking orders, serving the food, etc but it's well worth the wait!

Yelp
I came here around 6:00PM on a Friday with a friend and we waited about 5 minutes for a table which isn't too bad considering how small the place is. We got the spicy wings to share which I appreciated the yuzu flavoring of. I ordered the gyokai ramen which had a very rich and creamy flavor to the broth. The noodles were good and I was surprised that they gave a whole ajitama egg! The service was questionable. It took a while for the food to come out but we totally understood that they did their best because there seemed to be only 1 waitress and 1 chef in the kitchen when we first arrived (they have an open kitchen). Eventually we saw a third employee but we're pretty sure there were only 2 employees running the whole place for a while! Regardless, I would come back. Just make sure you're not in a super rush.

Yelp
I picked up take out from here recently. I ordered the spicy ramen with pork bits and my daughter ordered non spicy version. . The serving was substantial and really smartly packed keeping the broth separate from the noodles. She also had a pork bun. All good, no complaints. I ordered online and the food came out as I arrived. Service was quick and good. The space looked nice with a good crowd. Average price for ramen which is a little spendy $18 per and $5 for one bun.

Yelp
There's something special about the more remotely located, slightly difficult to find spots in NYC. I had frequented many ramen spots right in the heart of the city but being a visitor now and not a local I can appreciate that this spot is a local space and frequented and appreciated by the people living nearby. It's intimate and reminds me of the spots I came across in Japan. The difference is that they have veggie options here which is fantastic. I think the veggie miso needed the chili oil I added to it. But otherwise it was a nice dinner and resulted in a happy belly. I also got a iced hojicha but this is essentially ito en tea so it's kind of overpriced for the offering. The service was nice and quick. Don't sleep on this spot if you're in the area.

Yelp
This ramen spot needs to be known!!! Easily my top 5 ramen spot and I'm so glad I found it in Astoria. Highly recommend the susuru paitan or the kuro ramen. Both are very good. I'm usually skeptical with paitan or chicken base ramen but this one hit the spot with the flavor. It came with a few thicccc slices of cha siu and an ajitama egg cooked to perfection! The noodles are perfectly al dente, bouncy and thick! Service is great! The restaurant is a little small but the traffic moves on quick and they have outdoor seating. The staff is super patient and nice. Overall a great vibe here with amazing ramen! Highly recommend trying

Yelp
I was underwhelmed by the Susuru Ramen. The Paitan chicken broth was too watery and lacked complexity. The noodles were good though, fresh and springy. The egg yolk was too thin. The pork charsu was a little tough and not falling apart. The purple yam tempura was crispy on the bite and had a soft and smooth interior of yam. This was better than the ramen. The interior is simple, but clean and modern. The service was friendly and prompt.

Yelp
The restaurant was busy and organized. The food and price was good for the portion. The pork (chashu) buns were delicious. I personally enjoyed the yuzu sparkling juice and the Miami pop drink. 10/10. I ordered the paitan ramen and it was very clean and filling. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Yelp
This little ramen shop is SO bare bones, with just a small handful of tables, tiny backless stools, and wood paneled walls that look totally unfinished. The short laminated menu features a list of their 8 ramen bowls, and a list of traditional Japanese appetizers like tempura, poke, buns, or gyoza. The prices are great, and the food comes out speedily. If you're like me, the lack of ambience bodes well for the quality of the food, which doesn't always come to pass but definitely did here. The owners are super sweet and I was surprised to see the place full on a weekday afternoon. I tried the shrimp katsu bun, takoyaki, and veggie miso ramen with spicy chili oil. The broth had a nice depth of flavor despite being meatless and the noodles had a nice al dente chew. Though the place is really simple, I was charmed by the dedication to the food and how nice the owners were. If I find myself with a hankering for ramen while in Astoria, I wouldn't hesitate to return.
