If you’re missing Japan in Melbourne then make sure to check this place out! They have takeaway snacks and drinks in the shop area including freshly made onigiri. You can also dine in and order food and drinks from their kitchen. Highly recommend ordering the suupaachiki which is their take on the iconic family mart fried chicken. It was super juicy and paired well with the habanero hot sauce. I also really enjoyed the iced matcha with milo.

Visited on a Friday lunch when it was fairly not busy so was seated quickly. Food came not too long which is helpful for a weekday lunch. Unfortunately the the tonkatsu did not live to our expectation - the batter was not crispy and some part of the pork was chewy. The dipping sauce is quite salty but luckily the accompanying mustard helps cut through them. Also wished that there is rice on the side even if we have to order separately. Also tried the tsukemen. The dipping broth was super salty but luckily the chilli helps to cut through. The best part of the dish is the egg. We were glad we tried but we won’t be rushing back until the lack of crunch & saltiness are addressed.

Had the ramen, which was delicious. No complaints. The crackling crumbs were a nice detail. The Milo matcha came with default oat milk; would’ve like the option to have it with normal milk. Parking on the street nearby was rare, but there is other street parking on neighbouring blocks.

Came in for 2 on a Sunday - it’s walk ins only so no pre booking. Since it was only 2 of us, it was easy to find a spot. It’s a Japanese cafe/diner with a small convenience store within it. The menu won’t have your avo toast, and cappucinos, so if you’re not really experimental and looking for a more typical brunch, I’d suggest finding somewhere else to go. We got the Matcha Milo, Hojicha Latte with Vanilla Cream, the ramen, and the Black Garlic and Sesame Tan Tan with Mayuku Egg. It was all so delicious! Drinks wise - Heads up - you can only get drip coffee at Suupa, and you can only get oat milk. The drinks are very creative - we got a Matcha Milo from which was really yummy - well balanced in flavour -I would have never thought to mix the two but I will now be trying to replicate it at home! I am also not usually a Hojicha gal, but ugh I think I’m converted. The hojicha wasn’t too overpowering and was so good with the vanilla cream. You can get it hot or cold - due to the colder weather I went for hot, and it was perfect. Food wise, the Tan Tan had a kick to it but it was so full of flavour and the textures of the soft noodle and the crunchy toppings were a nice mix. The ramen was a nice brothy hearty meal, especially in the rainy weather. Overall we enjoyed our meal, staff were friendly, and I would be keen to come back and maybe try the katsu meals or their tuna bowl. We paid about $40 each for a meal and drink. Bonus that right next to it is Baker Bleu so we popped in for some yummy pastries afterward! While we also loved the creative takes on the drinks at Suupa, I missed my usual latte so we ended up getting some coffee at Baker Bleu too. Overall, love love love the creative takes on drinks, and loved the Japanese menu!

Suupa - Trout Tataki $20 🐟🥪 - Fried Egg Sando $19 🍳🥪⭐️ - Black Garlic and Sesame Tan Tan with Mayuku Egg $24 🍜 - Iced Matcha Milo $10 🍵⭐️ - White Chocolate Miso Coffee $10 ☕️⭐️ Suupa is a mix between a Japanese convenience store and a café and it totally lived up to the hype. The space is open and relaxed, with a little konbini to browse while you wait. I came for the Fried Egg Sando, and it did not disappoint. The egg was soft inside, crispy outside, and the black garlic and curry ketchup were a perfect match. The Trout Tataki is a great lighter option—the bun was super soft and the flavours were fresh and balanced. The garlic noodles were packed with flavour, and the drinks were next level. You can really taste the quality of the matcha, and it paired so well with the Milo foam. The miso white chocolate coffee was surprisingly good—sweet, salty, and smooth. Definitely recommend!

I had come across this restaurant whilst browsing for food places in Richmond. Looking at the pictures, I had high expectations. The Black Garlic and Sesame Tan Tan I ordered has lots of textures, mostly crunchy but sometimes to its detriment. The flavour is nice, but I had found the flaky parts got stuck in my throat and I had to rush to get a drink of water or else I would choke. I think if it either had less of that or the sauce was slightly creamier, it would help this dish wash down a bit more. The Iced Matcha Milo wasn’t bad either, but the price point of $10 feels a bit steep considering the amount you get. The total cost for these two things amounted to $36 without the weekend surcharge. Perhaps that Tan Tan dish wasn’t a good choice for my first time eating here, but I personally would not recommend that dish unless you liked a drier noodle with a crunchy texture. I really did want to like that dish but the flaky seasoning feels like it’s stuck in my throat even after drinking a lot of water. :(

Finally got a chance to dine in for lunch today and it did not disappoint. We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which gave us a unique view of the service in action. The food photos on the app made choosing tough, with so many great options. I went with the chicken curry (so good) and Stacey had the tan tan noodles, which she loved. We can’t wait to come back and try more dishes. Yesterday I also grabbed the chicken katsu sando from the market side, so bloody good and great value too. 🥪👌🏻

I was so excited to visit Suupaa because of all the reviews I had read and posts I had seen online. When I knew I was visiting Melbourne Suupa was one of the top spots I wanted to visit and it REALLY disappointed my partner and I. We walked for over an hour as we thought it would be a fun thing to do and that Suupa would be a good treat for us. When we arrived it was very busy (as I was expecting) and there was a table available along with two seats next to the kitchen. The FoH wasn’t particularly friendly and I felt like a sheep being guided along into the shearing shed. We ordered the fried egg sando, udon bolognese, Matcha Milo and yakult cola float. The fried egg sando was one dimensional and tasted like the bottom of a bowl of Indomie Mi Goreng noodles 2/10. The udon bolognese was watery and lacked depth 3/10. The matcha milo was quite possible one of the worst matcha drinks I have ever had and I absolutely adore matcha -2/10. The yakult cola float (unsure if this is the correct name as I can’t find it on the menu) was okay. It was literally just cola with an ugly piped yakult cream on top 4/10. We didn’t finish any of the items we ordered (we left 1/2 of the sando, udon and cola and 3/4 of the matcha) and that physically pained me because I HATE wasting food and money. Luckily we visited some nearby food spots that made it feel like we went on our walk for a reason.
