Very well organized and sized museum, recognized as a first-class professional museum in China. The museum volunteer was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, bringing the exhibition to life with their passion. Their clear explanations and warm demeanor made the visit truly memorable. Highly recommended.

The large shop next door that the tour guides take you to is expensive, don't buy there. It's marked up 4-5 times the price compared to shops by the Shantang river or Gusu district. However the small gift shop inside next to the live silk worm demonstration was charming, reasonably priced and had good quality items. Enjoyed to see a big part of Suzhou's history.

My son enjoyed himself at the museum. He saw the live worms and the different stages of the live worms. He also tried his hand to turn the cocoon to the silk threads. There was no entrance fees. A good rainy day excursion.

Taken here as part of our group tour, initially interesting learning about silk but then we were taken in to a room, the doors closed and given a huge sales pitch, from the best QVC type saleswoman you could possible imagine! The sale a went on and on, we were there for ages and you got sheets, pillows, pillow cases, duvet covers, and a suitcase included… but there’s more, if you were the first 5 people to buy you got a bigger suitcase - we were all laughing in the end because ‘wait, there’s more’ was the running theme. Although they managed to sell an awful lot of sets for $500 US - my husband and I said a strong NO to that.

Interesting place. They show you how silk is made and have good examples of fine silk garments. However, be warned the the museum employees are actually salesmen and will gradually lead you to the rear showroom. Once back there, they will begin to show you silk products for sale. The products are not welll known brands. -- Tourist from the U.S.A.
