Long queue but moving fast. Very good matcha ice cream. Recommend to try number 5 and 6 ( the strongest). Milky one were too milky for us, but strong matcha 5 and 6 just perfect. You can eat on the 1st floor and sit if you are lucky one. Highly recommend cos taste is amazing!! 🍵

Google
A few minute walk from the Asakusa Temple and definitely worth a stop. I'm no matcha expert, but they do have some pf the strongest and richest matcha I've ever had. They're famous for offering different levels of matcha intensity - perfect if you want to challenge your taste buds a bit. Please do expect a line, especially on weekends or during peak hours. Still, it's totally worth the wait!

Google
Saw a big line at bus stop but it’s definitely waiting to enter a famous matcha shop. I was waiting there about 30 minutes to get a matcha ice cream. It was worth to wait. The matcha quality is premium and delicious. It is well recommended if anyone pass by.☺️ #matchalover

Google
If you’re an avid matcha lover I’d recommend the no.4 for a good middle point in something not too bitter while still carrying no a good matcha taste! 1-3 I’d recommend for those who prefer a sweeter matcha and 5-max for those who want a big matcha kick with not much sweetness added! If you do end up ordering a drink or a cup of matcha gelato, you will be directed to wait for it on the second floor where staff will hand it to you directly. Don’t worry there’s plenty of signs in English that direct you on what to do. So if you want to come in and out the FASTEST! Order just the ice cream 💚💚

Google
A pilgrimage-worthy spot for matcha lovers. Suzukien’s gelato ranges from mild to the world’s most intense matcha level — and it’s no gimmick. The flavor is deep, complex, and lingers beautifully. Paired with the artful, serene space, it’s more than dessert — it’s an experience. A must-stop when in Asakusa. 🍵🍨🇯🇵

Google
Chose No.6 and No.7 and both were super rich and intense except a slight difference in flavour profile which I didn’t mind as I couldn’t tell which was the finest matcha. For the price difference of getting a premium flavour, next time I’ll get No.6 and another flavour that is not No.7 so I can taste the difference better. Sitting/standing area at level 2 for customers to eat.

Google
I was in Japan for a day and half and managed to come here twice! Their matcha drinks and gelato are amazing, specially matcha with the warabi mochi. You can get level 1- level 5 matcha. Level 1 is light green in appearance and doesn’t have a strong taste whereas level 5 is really dark colored and has a much stronger taste( some people find it bitter) so you can choose your level. I had a level 3 and it was delicious, not too strong and not too light just perfect. There is ample seating, has a cozy vibe, and has lots of charging ports. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Google
Really great matcha and tea flavored gelato! You can choose your level of matcha strength according to your preference. No testers though so you’ll have to rely on the menu for tasting notes and recommendations. Line was long but it moved fast. There are seats available upstairs. Ordered the matcha level 4 and houjicha ice cream and they were delicious, creamy and not icy at all. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Suzukien Asakusa was popularized through social media but with good reason. As a matcha and sweets fanatic, seven different levels of matcha gelatos was a must try during our visit. I've read that level four and seven balances well together due to the creaminess and sweetness which works well with the bitterness and astringency of the matcha-iest matcha gelato and I think that holds true. I would say based on trying levels four, six, and seven, my favorite level would probably be five with some sweetness to pair with a stronger matcha flavor than your usual Haagen-Dazs. I need to come back again to try it for myself! The black sesame flavor was also well done, so don't be afraid to try the non-matcha gelatos as well! A worth it experience for anyone visiting Asakusa after walking to nearby shrines and temples!

Yelp
Best matcha (ice cream) of my trip. Get this! We stopped by after visiting Sensoji and was pleased to find that this neighborhood was quiety empty after the myriads of people I encountered by Sensoji. There was a line, but it moved fast. Menu was easy to understand in English and good graphics. I got #3 and #7. The #3 was definitely better than the #7 but of course I had to try the #7 to experience their true matcha flavor so I don't regret it. You can eat upstairs but it's like 4 benches so don't expect much. There was enough space for all of us eventually as we ate. 20/10 would come back.

Yelp
Seven levels of matcha gelato? Count me in. This small shop is known for their 7 levels of matcha gelato. Level 7 matcha gelato is a must for any matcha lover. You do need to pay a little extra for the good stuff but it's worth it. Levels 1-6 uses the same grade of matcha but level 7 uses the finest grade of matcha. We tried a double scoop of their level 3 (most popular) and level 7. It was actually a nice flavor combination of matcha. If you're just tagging along and don't like matcha, there's strawberry, adzukin break, black sesame, and a seasonal flavor gelato as well. The drinks were just okay. I enjoyed my matcha gelato more. The interior is super small so you'll end up queuing outside for awhile before you continue queuing inside. They have a small eating area upstairs and most people are ushered up there after ordering because that's where drinks are picked up. This is a must visit if you're on the Asakusa neighborhood. It was a short walk from the temple.

Yelp
Supposedly home of the strongest matcha in Tokyo. Walked in and you form a line to order at the counter. Popular items are their matcha ice cream and matcha drinks. Opted for a level 7 matcha ice cream scoop, which is their strongest level of matcha. It's a deep deep dark green color. Definitely a strong matcha flavor, a bit more bitter, but actually not as strong as I thought it would be. That being said, I really enjoy matcha so, if you're not used to it, I'd recommend a milder intensity. If you plan to dine in, you will have to take you food upstairs into the dining space. You'll also redeem your drink upstairs via a ticket you provide a staff member.

Yelp
I discovered this place on social media, and as a matcha lover, I knew I had to try it. They're known for their seven levels of matcha ice cream, ranging from Level 1 (mild and sweet) to Level 7 (bold, thick, and slightly bitter). It's conveniently located near Sensoji Temple, so I recommend stopping by if you're in the area. To manage crowds, they use a ticketing system. When you arrive, find a staff member with a sign, and they'll give you a ticket with a return timeslot if there's a wait. My partner and I came at 11:40 AM and got a slot for 12:00-12:30 PM. When we returned, the line moved quickly. We ordered a double scoop with Levels 7 and 4, plus a matcha drink. The Level 7 ice cream had a strong, slightly bitter matcha flavor and a thick texture, while Level 4 was perfectly balanced and sweet. I preferred Level 4, though Level 7 is great for those who like less sweetness. The matcha drink was decent, but the mochi had a jelly-like texture and tasted more like milk. There's an upstairs area with standing tables and a few benches if you want to eat onsite, and turnover is quick, so finding space wasn't an issue. Overall, the ice cream is the highlight and worth trying, especially if you want to explore the full range of matcha flavors.

Yelp
This is heaven for matcha lovers. You can choose from different levels of matcha ice cream. In addition to matcha ice cream, they also serve ice cream in other tea flavors. Suzukien serves more than just ice cream. This set includes iced tea and mochi. The matcha paste on top of the mochi appears in different shades not because of the lighting, but because it's mixed with four levels of matcha paste.

Yelp
This side of town was very busy. I had a bit of a cold and it was winter but I still had to enjoy this. I couldn't even let a friend touch it. I Finished it all
google avatar

Fiona T.

Yelp
I thought this place wasn't busy since there wasn't a line out the door but i saw the long line once I walked in. I enjoyed the level 1 and 3. My boyfriend got the 6 and 7. I didn't like the matcha drink. They have some other items for sale as well. We picked up a matcha powder set. There are benches upstairs to sit on while you eat
google avatar

Elaine C.

Yelp
If you're a true matcha lover, you'll get the level seven matcha ice cream. I loved the contrast of the bitter matcha with the creamy milk flavor. I also recommend the black sesame ice cream if you're a fan of nutty. Line was crazy long, as this place is now TikTok famous, but no one does matcha as well as Japan
google avatar

Yelp
Come here if you are a matcha lover! They have gelato flavors with 7 levels of matcha strength for you to try. If you are not a matcha fan, no problem because they also have other gelato flavors such a black sesame or strawberry. They also have a variety of tea drinks available. I got their hojiicha (roasted green tea) and their level 7 matcha gelato. Both were super delicious and the matcha is unmatched in flavor and texture to all the matcha gelato places I have tried. The level 7 definitely is strong and a must if you love matcha. When we arrived there were only a handful of people in line but this place is very popular and can get very busy quickly. Overall a solid dessert and drink restaurant.

Yelp
I'm definitely missing this place already! Matcha isn't something everyone likes, but if you do then this is a must. They have seven leves of matcha ice-cream to try and the most popular one was level seven which is what I chose. My husband found that the level seven was too strong for him and he was happy he went with level five. I enjoyed matcha ice cream so much that I had it almost everyday while I was in Japan. This place gets busy, so you will probably have to wait in line for a few minutes but it's worth it! You can choose to eat your ice-cream in their shop or take it to go. Their tables are in the second floor, very simple decor. Besides ice-cream you can also get other matcha products.

Yelp
Came to Suzukien Asakusa Honten to try the matcha gelato. The line was just poking outside the door when I walked in but it moves quickly. I opted for a single scoop of level 6 not convinced that level 7 was really worth the extra charge. First off, color. Gorgeous. The gelato was a vibrant green and looked delectable! Texture? Creamy. Matcha flavor? Really good matcha flavor with just the slightest bitter edge to give it some balance. However, I do feel like I've had other matcha flavor ice creams that were a little more tea forward and that's what I thought was missing with this experience. Still, it was worth the try at ¥450.
google avatar

Yelp
If you love matcha and ice cream, then you must visit Suzukien Asakusa Honten in Tokyo. I was lucky enough to learn about this place when I visited over the summer and yes, I'm writing this review now on Christmas Eve :) Tokyo's summer heat is dreadful and humid so a visit to this spot is well worth your trip to cool down if you're able to find seats upstairs. When you order your ice cream, there's seven intensity to choose from for your matcha; number 7 as their "premium", which is what I chose. I figured the stronger and darker the better and I was correct. I also ordered their matcha dango (rice cake) with their green tea drink. Overall I enjoyed everything since it was a hot and humid summer day and if I had the time, I would've tried more of their matcha but since there was a lot of people waiting to sit, I didn't want to hog of chairs upstairs. I'll definitely come back and try more flavors the next time I visit Japan because it won't be my last!

Yelp
A long line but to try the world's largest matcha it was worth the wait. We got one scoop of strongest (level 7) and one scoop of the mildest (level 1). Level 7 has a surcharge. We got a mix and match and were charged 750 for a scope of level 7 mixed with a scoop of something else. Level 7 is definitely the way to go. Kinda like the dark chocolate grit of the matcha world.

Yelp
Instagram is a powerful source of getting the word out. You see, when I visited Japan in late-Feb 2023, I saw a clip of Suzukien Asakusa Honten (SAH) where they displayed their showcase of matcha gelato that is offered in 7 different levels, as well as boasting the world's most rich tasting matcha gelato. SAH has been in business for over 150 years, and they primarily sell tea, which is believed to improve one's health and for beauty tips. I was SOLD. My favorite color is green, and I also enjoy matcha so this was a must for me to visit. However, I had just gone to Sensoji in Asakusa on a Monday but decided to make another trip to Asakusa from Ikebukuro on a Thursday. A foodie is willing to travel for food. After I got off the bus stop, I had to navigate to their storefront but was shocked to see that their doors were closed because as of early-March 2023, they were under renovation. So, I had to use their sign to navigate my way to their second location, which was less than a 5min walk. I was so excited when I saw the hanging curtains and signage stand in front and to my luck there were 3 people standing in line. While waiting I browsed at their store and saw various merchandise for sale and found their interior very simple but modern. When it was my turn to order, I knew I wanted the strongest level 7 but had a hard time to decide which other level to get. I settled for level 5 on opted for a waffle cone as I was doin' it for the Gram. Total cost was ¥740yen ($5.44). Besides matcha, they offer gelato flavors in azuki, strawberry, black sesame, roasted green tea (ho-ji), brown rice tea (genmai) and Japanese black tea (ko-cha). There weren't many open seats inside but luckily their outdoor bench vacated so I sat outside and snapped a couple of photos before it was time to dig in. THE VERDICT: The gelato texture was fabulous and loved the color but the matcha flavor fell short of my expectations. For level 7, I was expecting a somewhat bitterness to it but was sweet. Clearly level 7 color was darker than level 5. I then sampled level 5 and it was also on the sweet side. For some reason, eating gelato in 40-degree weather was fun but I found myself getting cold when the winds blew. I was sad when I looked at my cone and there was only a bite left. Service was your typical Japanese establishment where staff are very polite and speak at a high pitch. While paying, I noticed they have seasonal items and various sets to choose from. Don't be a fool like me as I took the whole stand where the staff placed by cone. It was a contactless transaction where I was supposed to just pick up the cone and walk away. Overall, a pleasant first experience at SAH where I see myself coming here again on my next trip to Tokyo. I mean, how can you turn down eating a cold treat and you've pretty much will get my attention when mentioning matcha.

Yelp
Multiple grades of matcha! Got the highest grade and it was very bitter so if you are looking very high grade matcha this is the spot! Lower grade available for a little less POW. The black tea was our favorite!

Yelp
Really loved the idea of choosing the intensity of matcha ice cream! Came here around 1PM and thought we didn't have to wait; however, they give you a slip of paper on when to come back. Our paper at that time said around 1 hour which was a disappointment because we were exploring on our way there. Therefore, I recommend coming here first and exploring afterwards. Make sure to not get distracted on your way here because I sure did, hehe. Anyways, we ordered level 4 and level 7. I know many people fear getting level 7 but honestly, I didn't think it was that bad. If you can handle the authentic tea given from some of the restaurants, then you can handle level 7. In my opinion, I was actually expecting it to be a bit stronger. As for level 4, it did have some matcha, but it wasn't as strong given that it's level 4. Both were very creamy in terms of the texture, and it didn't melt as quickly. They do have seatings with AC upstairs, but with limited amount of chairs. Overall, I thought it was good but not great. There were some minor things I wish they would've done. I also think it was a bit overhyped. Would I be back though? Only if there's a shorter line. It is worth the experience though!
google avatar

Eugene W.

Yelp
Excellent matcha ice cream. They have varying strengths of matcha ice cream from level 1 to level 7. Level 1 is more milky while level 7 is more matcha-ey. I highly recommend level 7- it has the strongest matcha kick! We also got level 3 for a comparison. They were both good. Dango was okay. I would just stick to the ice cream.
google avatar

Terrence S.

Yelp
Saw this place on Instagram and had it bookmarked for my trip. The location isn't the greatest; there is nothing around the immediate area other than the Senso'ji, and we made the mistake of exploring the temple before going to the ice cream shop. When the shop is getting full, you're given a ticket to come back in an hour. I don't think it's that strict though, we got in after waiting for about 40 minutes. They're known for the 7 intensities of matcha ice cream, with 1 being similar to milky American style matcha, and 7 being the most intense and concentrated matcha. We had a 4 and a 7. The price isn't the cheapest, but this is good ice cream with a lot of good matcha flavor. Maybe I had the expectation that it'll be way too strong, or maybe I like matcha a lot, but I didn't think #7 was as intense as advertised. It is still pretty strong though, and very enjoyable. There is seating and table space upstairs to eat your dessert.
google avatar

Hannah E.

Yelp
This matcha gelato bar has other options than matcha gelato, but you'd have to be nuts to order any of it when the whole point of this bar is to subtly alter the levels of matcha in their gelato and label them from 1-7 and imply that 7 is going to be an Experience that you should Beware of. Being pretty sensitive to caffeine, I went with a Level 5. I probably could have done 6, but 7 may have been pushing it. The 5 was strong, toasty, only mildly bitter, and a deep pine-green. I liked how their cone has a noticeably toasted flavor as well. The whole flavor experience feels like there was a fire involved somewhere.
google avatar

Eunice T.

Yelp
Say whaaat? 7 levels of matcha to choose from for the gelato? Ofc I'm going to add this to my list of places to go in Asakusa. Tip: Head here first to pick up a number card. The wait will be ~1hr, but you can walk around. I came here for the matcha, but tbh, I was more intrigued by their non-matcha options. I have limited tummy space though, so I stuck to what I came here for - a scoop of level 4 matcha gelato. My bf got their matcha warabi drink (you gotta pick this up upstairs, they didn't give us instructions though so my bf was waiting by the cashier for like 5-10 minutes.) The matcha and gelato quality is definitely great. Soft and smooth. Level 4 was perfect for me. The matcha warabi drink was pretty good as well. Would I wait an hour for it if I had to be in line physically? No, but that's why their waiting system is great. I also bought a few souvenirs for myself, including the various levels of matcha in chocolate form and variety of tea. Nothing in particular stood out much.
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. The wait in line was so worth it! We came to Suzukien Asaku on a beautiful day and were met with a long line that moved very quickly. The worker there maintained the line really well and she gave us the menus to take a look at while waiting. Suzukien Asaku is known for their strong premium matcha ice cream and they have 7 different grades of matcha for their ice cream! (See the translated menu). I couldn't tell the real difference between the different grades based on just the descriptions alone but I knew I had to get the most premium version they offered which was #7. So I got a cone with the #7 matcha and dainagon azuki bean. The matcha was surprisingly not at all bitter and it was so creamy and not at all sweet. The azuki bean wasn't quite popular too but I still very much enjoyed it. But the match was the star of the show- the best matcha ice cream I've ever had. They also have some matcha products you can shop in store. Note: You also are suppose to enjoy your ice cream in store so they have a standing section in the back and some seats upstairs.

Yelp
We went out of our way to get here, and it was POURING lol. Tons of other people also decided to come and we were given tickets with a return time to when we'd be allowed in the store itself. I realized later, those tickets didn't matter that much....Like our tickets were for 3:30PM but other people with the same tickets were being allowed in at 3:15PM, etc. It seemed pretty YMMV. I wish they had a flight option so you could have all the levels 1-7 along with some other choices. Regardless, most of the "research" I did told me that level 1 was an American level matcha and level 4 is too strong for most people who do NOT love matcha. So be careful with what you pick. I personally got a level 7 and loved it. Not bitter at all with a rich deep flavor to it. Black sesame was also good! Ice cream purchases are cash only. There's indoor seating (upstairs) and a toilet available downstairs as well. Credit card can be used for purchases of items inside the store - highly recommend the 7 levels of chocolate to take home!
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Amazing place for matcha ice cream. This place gets pretty busy so once you arrive, you will get a ticket that tells you the time frame to come back. They are known for their high quality matcha ice cream which ranges from 1-7, with 7 as the most strong/intense matcha flavor. For me, the 7 was a bit too bitter and strong, so if you're not used to that I would recommend somewhere in the middle like 4. There's also black sesame ice cream as well if you don't like matcha! While waiting in line, you can see a bunch of different matcha tea items, which you can purchase as well. Once you get your ice cream scoop, you can go upstairs to eat it. There's some seating and tables to enjoy your delicious desert.
google avatar

Audrey T.

Yelp
Amazing matcha! We had to try to the level 7 matcha ice cream and it was so rich and delicious. We also got the brown rice warabi mochi milk drink as well. There's not a lot of seating upstairs, mostly just standing room. Matcha was the highlight.

Yelp
Mannnn was this place an experience for us in Japan. We almost missed out on one of the definite to go places in Tokyo. We arrived a day prior, thinking we are about 1hr away from closing time, but nope, they actually hand out time cards, and if you don't get that last time card, you out of luck. Hence we attempted the next day, thinking if we go early in the day it will be good, but even then, the time cards handed out took us close to 1hr to finally get in. The line definitely grueling. BUT the matcha ice cream is so worth it. One of the best matcha ice cream we have ever had. As a bonus, got the sesame ice cream, and dear God, its amazing too. We are super grateful to get this on our last day in Japan - and thankful we got it in time to make it to our flight! Overall Kel rating: 5/5 + 1 for exceptional The good: The best matcha ice cream we have had in Japan. The decent: FYI cash only! The ugly: Line ups are super super long... remember to go there early just to get a time card. #Japan #Tokyo #icecream #Matcha

Yelp
The gelato was pretty good, the level 7 matcha was very strong for me. I did enjoy the level 2 more, but I'm glad to have tried a strong high quality matcha. The line was long but it went quickly. It's a small place and they have an upstairs where you can eat your matcha.
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
This store is known for its matcha gelato. You can choose the strength of the matcha with #7 being the strongest. We arrived about 10 minutes before of closed and was able to order our gelato and so glad that we did. We tried the strongest matcha flavour at #7 and it was so good. We also tried the black sesame which was good but not as good as the matcha. Cash only.
google avatar

Phuc B.

Yelp
Was a gloomy day, short line about 5-10 min wait. Got the max level. It was ok. It was ok.
google avatar

Amelia C.

Yelp
Good variety of matcha flavored ice cream. 7 different levels of matcha flavors to choose from. They also have black sesame, black tea, strawberry and some other flavors to choose from if you do not like matcha. We ordered level 1, 4, and 7. I think 4 was my favorite--was not overly milky and had a strong matcha flavor. Level 7 was too bitter for me. I wish the States had different levels of matcha flavored ice cream; it is usually just milky with a light matcha flavor. It is a small ice cream parlor with two tables to stand around. The staff was friendly. If you do not speak Japanese, they have a menu that you can point to.
google avatar

Yelp
A good friend had raved out an matcha ice cream shop in Tokyo that had 7 levels of matcha ice cream. Knew we had to try and though we didn't have a name, he provided detailed walking instructions from the only temple in Tokyo. We typically don't do much touristy stuff during our trip, but since we were so close to the Shinsho Ji temple, we paid a visit. The temple was packed with tourists as busses lined the street and parking lot nearby. We didn't spend more than 10 mins before hunting down this famed matcha shop. We arrived to see a long line of tourists and decided to wait it out. They have a showcase near the front door and one can see how dark and deep the green is as you move up the level of intensity. We ended up trying the black sesame, hojicha, and level 5 and 7 matcha ice creams. Loved every flavor we tried and was surprised that the level 7 iced cream wasn't more bitter. Would definitely come back for more of the black sesame and level 7 matcha iced creams.

Yelp
You must come here to try if you are addicted to matcha!! They have all different degree of the matcha icecream. I try the strongest matcha. It tasted bit bitter, but very smoothly, and you can taste a bit sweet as well. It's perfect to match with any other sweeter flavor! I hear it usually has a long line. But I actually went there in Feb, which is low season and also it's winter. So only couple people in front of me:)
google avatar

Dan F.

Yelp
This shop is famous for its matcha and gelato that they advertise as "the strongest matcha gelato in the world". On the menu that would be Premium Matcha gelato #7. A short walk on the outskirts of the Sensoji compound, it is totally worth a visit. I was worried the #7 would taste pasty with all that dry matcha that made it so deeply green in color, but it was not so. The texture is richer than expected. Eating is not allowed outside in front of the shop, but there are standing tables inside in the back (no seating). Of course there will be a line, but it moves quickly. Go treat yo self!
google avatar

Eva L.

Yelp
This is listed as one of Tokyo's "must-visit" places! It's located in Asakusa, a pretty quick walk from the famous Sensoji temple. Once you step inside you'll see a full variety of matcha selections and the numbers are listed from (#1-#7) in which the flavors are varying in matcha grade (#7 as the most intense matcha). We opted for #3 and #5 because from reading the reviews, the #7 is the most intense matcha with a bitter aftertaste. I feel like if you like matcha enough to enjoy some of the richness yet hint of bitterness along with the sweetness of matcha, then #5 is a good choice. You can choose to have your matcha in a cone or bowl, and we felt the bowl was pretty good. There's not much of a sitting area, but there are standing tables towards the back.

Yelp
Richest matcha gelato in all the land, coming in at different matcha flavour levels. It is conveniently located about 3 minutes of a walking distance from the Senso-ji Temple. They have 7 different levels of matcha and you know we just had to try the highest one. Remember it is Japanese culture to have respective places to enjoy your treats. They have a small space indoors where you can enjoy your ice cream. If you go outside and try to eat it on the sidewalk most people will be very upset. I wasn't aware of this prior so here's your tiny advice for eating in Japanese culture. And if you ask about the 7th level of matcha ice cream? It's very very concentrated on green tea/matcha flavour.

Yelp
I am unsure if the employers speak any English at suzukien green tea gelato shop if I only speak and understand English

Yelp
Calling to all matcha lovers! Their matcha #7 is mildly bitter but it pairs so well with the sesame flavor. I highly recommend this combination. Don't pair it strawberry, because the matcha overwhelms the subtlety of the strawberry (I tried this combo and didn't think it was good). The line is long but it moves fast. The store employee comes outside and hand out menus so you can decide on your choices...once you're inside the lines moves fast. Cash only!

Yelp
I love this so Matcha! If you are a matcha ice cream lover look no further. This place offers you 7 levels of matcha goodness from level 1 being not too strong to 7 being pure matcha goodness. The shop is very small and there is no place to sit, so you will have to find somewhere outside to sit or stand and eat your ice cream. Just seeing the different matcha levels made me so happy. Located in lovely Asakusa. If you are in the area and want to try green tea ice cream this is the place. I got level 4 and 7. Level 4 was still strong compared to green tea ice cream I've had in America. Level 7 tastes as if you are eating a cold form of matcha powder itself. Both are great! It was just so interesting to be able to try something that had such a strong matcha taste because I have not had something like that before. A little pricey for ice cream but well worth it!

Yelp
One of my goals during my Tokyo trip was to visit a place with 7 levels of matcha ice cream and this place popped up! I was so happy it was walking distance from the Asakusa temple too since my friends and I were visiting that temple. Getting here from the temple wasn't hard either! I'm a huge sucker for matcha so I was really excited to try this place out and I was not disappointed! I originally wanted to try out level 7 but opted out and decided to try level 4 instead (a nice in-between). I got two scoops in a cup so I picked level 4 matcha and hojicha. Level 4 matcha still has a hint of sweetness but you definitely taste the matcha. The matcha flavor is strong but so good! The hojicha was also really nice. I've never had hojicha ice cream before but I'm glad I decided to try it here. It's a really nice roasted tea flavor - kind of reminds me of a roasted rice flavor (which I also love). It wasn't as strong in flavor compared to the matcha but nonetheless very good. My friends all got different levels so I got to sample level 1 and level 7 too. Both were good. I'd say if you're not a fan of strong matcha flavor to get level 1 because that's the closest you'll get to the green tea ice cream served in America. Level 7 is definitely strong and a bit bitter so I'd recommend that for those who don't have much of a sweet tooth. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area or want to try the level 7 matcha! I hope to come here when I visit Tokyo again.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to visit in Tokyo. It's kind of far but it's right next to Sensoji Temple which lets you hit two places at once. It's also kind of near the SkyTree so you can check this off the list too! Though the hype died down, I have visited here during my two times in Tokyo. This is the famous 7 level matcha place!! If you're a fan of matcha, definitely visit here. A lot of people have written that they're too scared too try the level 7. Are you even a matcha fan if you don't try 7? I prefer my matcha stronger because I like the intense flavor, but they have levels 1-7 for your desired level of matcha concentration. They also have other flavors like hojicha, black tea crunch, etc. so you're not restricted to just matcha!

Yelp
I am obsessed with matcha especially when they offer 7 different levels of matcha. #7 is the strongest. I got a scoop of #7 and Japanese black tea. This ice cream is more on the expensive price but it is so worth it. You get real strong matcha flavor. It was smooth and creamy. I wish they closed a little later. 5pm is too early. What if I want it for dessert after dinner

Yelp
Not sure if Suzukien actually has tea rooms, but if you're coming here you BETTER TRY THEIR MATCHA ICE CREAM! I came across this gem while trying to find great matcha ice cream shops in Japan. Even though Kyoto is actually the prefecture that has the OG matcha, Suzukien's creamy and thick ice cream is unrivaled by most places. They have at least 7 (I think?) or so types of matcha ice cream, each ranging from soft to THICK AF. The difference between each type, besides the consistency, is how bitter it is. So if you want to go all out, be prepared to eat soap. Just kidding! My girlfriend and I stopped by around noon after a great lunch down the street, and were pleasantly surprised to see how calm the area was. The shops near Suzukien weren't as busy as what you'd find at Nakamise. It's a lot slower-paced, which is great since we wanted to enjoy our ice cream. For about 500 yen ($5), we enjoyed a creamy and delectable experience. The matcha ice cream was SO GOOD - definitely something we couldn't get back home in the states. Would for sure get it again when we're in Tokyo. A treat worth traveling for! I give Suzukien an "Omg, I'd travel 2 hours for this" rating. Eat well and prosper,

Yelp
All you need to know about this place is: 7 LEVELS OF MATCHA. We happened to visit on 2/27 which was one of the special days of the month that they offer two scoops of their level 7 matcha for a special price, so that's what I got. If you're not a matcha fan, don't worry - they have other delicious tea ice cream flavors. We tried the black sesame and hojicha which were both AMAZING. The level 7 matcha was super intense, I would only recommend it to extreme matcha lovers. Even for a matcha lover, it can be a little much... so good thing there are seven levels! There's a small standing space inside to enjoy your ice cream so make sure you are respectful to Japanese culture and respective places to enjoy your treats. Lots of different matcha teas, treats, souvenirs and matcha things to buy here too! I picked up some teas and chocolates... excited to try!

Yelp
Matcha is big now and there's no better place to get your fix than this place. Arguably the best matcha gelato out there. If you're a fanatic, be sure to try the No. 7 for a kick in the mouth.

Yelp
I love the concept of this place and how you can choose the intensity of matcha in your ice cream! The levels go from 1 to 7 ( which looks dark green). I went for the level 5 and though it was strong, I felt like I could've leveled up and gotten a 6 or 7. The ice cream was rich, but the portions were quite small for 500 ¥. My only concern is that the ice cream was somewhat icey, and not as creamy as I would've liked. Also, no seating inside.

Yelp
I first heard about this matcha gelato place on Facebook, and it absolutely did not disappoint when I finally made it out a year later. Unfortunately, they don't allow samples and they don't have a tasting flight, so you'll either have to come with a group of people or settle for only a few flavors. They sell either one scoop or two, and it's so hard to choose among the 7 matcha intensities and all the other tea flavors. I was still pretty full from lunch, so I got the number 7 (the most intense flavor) and the number 4 (the middle one). I like really dark, bitter matcha flavors, so I absolutely loved the number 7. I think it's a bit intense for normal consumption, though; it'd be perfect with an anmitsu or as a side. The number 4 was really lovely and tasted perfect for me, though I'm going to come back and try 5 and 6 to compare. I don't think I'd want anything lighter. I arrived at 4:55PM on Sunday (5 minutes before closing), so I was really lucky to be one of the last people in the store. As an added bonus, there wasn't a very long line either; I'm not sure if that's because we came so close to closing or if it's because the weather is still kind of cold. I'm definitely coming back to try the sakura parfait, which includes a sakura gelato that is kept in the back because they have such a low stock of it. You can't get it on its own. :( It's apparently a limited edition flavor for the month, and it might not even last the whole month so I'll definitely be back soon! I also found a collection of different intensity matcha + a hojicha chocolate, so I got two of them as souvenir gifts for friends. I think their collection of matcha would also make a good gift.

Yelp
7 levels of matcha! how cool is that? I got the premium no.7 which I thought had the perfect level of matcha in it - it wasn't bitter like you would think it is (makes me question how the other lower matcha numbers taste). The only small complaint i have is that it does get a bit icy in some parts of the scoop which is not what I was expecting in a smooth gelato. It wasn't icy throughout so it's fine. The other parts of the ice cream was smooth and creamy, so it could just be a minor flaw. there is usually a long line out the door when you go, but the line moves fairly quick. You're just ordering your ice cream and then going to the standing counter in the back to enjoy it. It would've been nice if they could let you taste the different matcha's before deciding on which one, but i know with time efficiency, that's not plausible. You had to just decide and go with it. Otherwise, the line will take a very long time to go through. I suggest the premium no.7. Just go all out and try their best one. They also serve complimentary hoji (?) tea on the side as well which went well together. Would definitely come back to this joint! It's very close to Asakusa area and Sensoji Temple.

Yelp
I don't really see the appeal of strong green tea ice cream, but I guess its their thing. I wasn't sure how the scale worked but knew I didn't want a 7! It kinda sucks that they don't let you sample, so you just have to guess on how strong it is. I got a 4, my friend got a 3. I also got a scoop of sesame ice cream to hopefully offset the green match flavor. While the sesame was really good, the match was pretty strong for a 4. My friend said her 3 was pretty strong as well. Next time I'd just get a 2, lol!

Yelp
Wow!!! Level 7 green tea ice cream. They go from level 1 (typical USA matcha ice cream) to level 7 which supposedly very few places, if any, can make this intensity of green tea ice cream. I had a double scoop of level 4 and 7. Both were rich and flavorful but the standout was def the level 7. It's not as bitter as you might expect. But the matcha flavor is strong with a lot of bite. The coloring is intense, almost looks radioactive! Level 7 was so good I got a cone with just the 7. Easy to find right behind Sensoji Temple, just walk past Sensoji on the small path inside the temple grounds then when you get to the big street, cross it and go left. This ice cream shop is about another 100 feet with green banners and signs out front.
