Disgraceful Service, Extortionate Fees, and Denied Check-In – Avoid at All Costs!
I had an utterly deplorable experience with Svenska Design Hotel, Mumbai, that ruined my travel plans and left me and my family distressed. I booked a stay through Amazon Pay/MakeMyTrip for my uncle and his 82-year-old father, paying INR 13,909 upfront for two nights.
Due to an autofill error on the booking platform, my name was listed as the primary guest. Within 7 minutes of receiving confirmation I contacted MakeMyTrip customer care to correct this. They confirmed they emailed the hotel to update the voucher, and the secondary guest name was updated after multiple follow-ups.
However, the hotel’s response was nothing short of exploitative. They demanded an outrageous INR 2,100 plus taxes per night (4200 in total) just to change the primary guest name—a simple administrative correction that should be routine.
To make matters worse, they outright refused to allow even the secondary guest to check in, leaving my elderly relative stranded.
This is not just poor service; it’s predatory behavior, especially considering the booking was fully paid and the current rate for similar rooms has Dropped to 11,000 .
The hotel’s staff specially Chetan Rajjak (Front office Manager) showed no empathy, professionalism, or willingness to resolve the issue, despite my ample proof of communication (call logs, emails, and confirmations). Their insistence on exorbitant fees for a minor error reeks of greed and violates fair trade practices under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Svenska Design Hotel’s actions are a disgrace to the hospitality industry, preying on customers with unjustified charges and callous disregard for elderly guests. Avoid this hotel at all costs unless you want to be extorted and humiliated. I will never book here again and urge others to steer clear of this unethical establishment.
