A huge cathedral with historic significance. It hosts the resting place for the Christ robe. It has a peaceful and calming vibe. In this cathedral you can get baptized and married as well. The cathedral compound hosts a lot of local business shops that sell local products such as cashmere, chocolates and locally produced winter wear.

We were lucky to visit the cathedral on a Sunday when it was heaving with devotees. As a bonus we also got to see a wedding and a private prayer ceremony that we could observe from a respectful distance. The interior is full of icons. I would say visiting this church was a highlight as it gave us a chance to see Georgians in their best finery.

This impressive cathedral is located in Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. It's beautiful inside and outside. Women were singing songs in the church which gave a very serene atmosphere even though it was pretty busy. If you don't have the proper clothes you can lend a cloth to cover you.

During our recent family trip to Georgia, visiting the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta was an unforgettable experience! This awe-inspiring cathedral, built in the 6th century, stands as a masterpiece of Georgian architecture and a testament to the country's rich history. The moment you step into the grounds, you're surrounded by a blend of beauty and serenity. The majestic cathedral, with its intricate carvings and centuries-old frescoes, is a spiritual and cultural treasure. The surrounding area, framed by rolling hills and the picturesque Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, offers breathtaking views that feel straight out of a storybook. We visited with our kids, and they were fascinated by the stories of its construction and its role in Georgia's history. The calm and family-friendly environment made it easy to relax and explore. The winter temperature added to the charm, with a crisp, refreshing breeze that made the experience even more memorable. The nearby streets are dotted with quaint shops and cafes offering traditional Georgian food and handicrafts, giving us a taste of the local culture and traditions. The warmth of the Georgian people made the visit even more special. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral isn’t just a historical site; it’s a place where history, beauty, and spirituality come alive. A perfect spot to visit with family and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Georgia’s heritage. Highly recommended for anyone visiting this beautiful country! 🌟

It is said that the hem of Jesus' garment is buried here and is considered a very sacred place by the Georgian people. It is located in the town of Mtskheta, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Very serene and calm. Cathedral beautifully located inside the walls, around some lovely small streets on the outside.

A bit overcrowded like most Georgian monasteries and cathedrals, but certainly a must see. It's a pretty short excursion from Tbilisi along with the nearby Jvari church, a nice addition to a tour around the capital's cultural heritage.
