Filipino Food Truck Swabe Opens in Queens With Chao Long

"I found the plastic bowls of chao long Palawan packed with crunchy bean sprouts, mint and scallions, a whole lot of rice noodles, and tender cuts of beef shoulder; the broth is sweet and beefy from time well spent on the stove, reflecting the Palawan-style adaptations (tomato sauce, annatto, or beef stew) that turned Macky Mendoza from hating the soup as a child into a fan. Opened in Elmhurst at the end of the summer by Mendoza and partners Alexander Mendoza, Jericho Ensoy, and John Fuentes, the truck serves just eight straightforward Filipino dishes—highlights include pares mami (egg noodles and brisket braised with garlic, onion, ginger, star anise, and soy sauce), fried pork belly, lumpia, and a beef tapa marinated in soy, sugar, and calamansi that arrives garlicky and almost caramelized, either plated traditionally with rice and a fried egg or as a messy sandwich. You can eat on the side of Queens Boulevard, where the truck parks Monday through Saturday outside an old church with a nice green lawn; the wide sidewalk, a few camping chairs, and squat folding tables make it feel less like a food truck and more like a street restaurant. For John Fuentes, who struggled professionally after the pandemic, cooking on the truck has been redemptive—"it's for the common good," he says—and watching friends hunched over their chao long makes clear the soup is doing people good." - Chris Crowley

This was such a joy to enjoy. Heard about this Filipino food truck on IG. Had to try their famous Chaolong Palawan which had a nice light broth. I really enjoyed the Beef Tapa Rice Bowl and lumpia. It’s cute that some camping chairs are set up across the truck with tv side tables in case you want to eat as soon as it is served. The prices were more than reasonable. Will definitely be back!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The food here is amazing! The Filipino dishes taste so authentic and flavorful, just like home cooking. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the staff are super friendly. Definitely my new go-to spot!” Honestly, this is the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again. Great food, fair prices, and an awesome vibe—highly recommend checking them out if you’re nearby!” 86-46 queens blvd Queens NY

Swabe truly feels like being in the Philippines but on the streets of Queens. The short but sweet menu has classics like tapsilog, lumpia and pares mami along with a unique dish from Palawan called Chaolong Palawan. Food is reasonably priced and tasty. The vibe is amazing with folding chairs outside the truck to relax and enjoy. Very unique experience!

Dropped by today to try their Chao Long Palawan which is exciting! I never had this before and was looking forward to try regional dishes that is not the universal mascot of Philippines' cuisine: the lumpia or pansit. Flavor wise, it is closer to when sinigang and pares had a baby. Sweet, sour, and herby at the same time. I like it! Had to take 1 star off because the beef was not tender, but tough and chewy. Overall, would love to come back and try other items in the menu.

Saw them on tiktok and since I live in the neighborhood I said I need to try! Great food, the pork belly sandwich is chef’s kiss! Will definitely be going back to try the other items on the menu. Friendly service is a plus! I think I found my go to for Pinoy food to-go. Will be supporting them so they remain in my neighborhood.
