We have been going to Swagat for quite some time and always enjoyed the weekend buffet. The food is always flavorful, with a nice variety to keep us going back. The service, however, has never been tremendously exceptional, but today it was shocking. It's not uncommon to sit there waiting for them to refill your drink, so I'm used to that. What was shocking was how they reacted when I told them one of our kids is 12 when they charged him as an adult. My wife went up and spoke to the guy at the front podium area about the billing error. It's happened to us before and they always adjust it accordingly. Today, not so much. First, the guy told my wife children are 12 and under. When she told him our son is 12 he asked to see his ID to prove this. Yes, our 12 year old is a big kid for his age, but this was a first. She told him he doesn't have an ID because he's 12 so the employee said he can't do anything without an ID. After my wife told this, I found manager and told him what the employee told her. He also asked to see his ID and when I told him he doesn't have an ID (while my wife looked through her phone for an image of his birth certificate), the manager kept looking at him and I like we were lying. This went back and forth just long enough that I had had enough and told the manager what I thought of this "policy" of theirs just as he said he would discount the bill. It was too late. I told him to just keep the extra money but we most likely wouldn't be returning in the future. He didn't say anything. No sorry, no attempting to help the customer, nothing. As I passed the podium I spoke to the employee who initially told my wife he needed to see an ID and he said that for all children if they are questionable then he was told to get their IDs. At other restaurants, including Indian restaurants, we have never had such a problem. It's sad because we like their food. But when you're paying over $80 for three people, you're kind of hoping to be treated decently.
