Swagat is a neighborhood Indian restaurant right around the corner of Prinzregentenplatz. We came for dinner as a group of 8 (with reservation), and even though we did not all come at once, the staff didn't seem to be bothered by that. We sat outside in their somewhat narrow outdoor area, but the staff did manage to fit us 8 comfortably.
There were at least 4-5 servers, yet the service was slow and inattentive. Every time we want to order, we have to make strong eye contact with any of the waiters, and with 4-5 waiters, you would think that'd be easy. Not in our case (some waiters even just stood around, chitchatting with one another).
We started with the vegetable appetizers to share, which were mostly pakoras with 4 various dips. No problem with that, but they were a bit cold and unfortunately not as crispy. The dips were underwhelming but wasn't bad.
The main entrees were hit-or-miss. The hits were Baingan Ka Bharta (my favorite with mashed eggplants, onions, and tomatoes) and Shahi Baingan (eggplants with homemade cheese and ginger in almond sauce). The misses were Mixed Vegetables Mango (too sweet for my taste) and Murgh Nilgiri (chicken with coriander leaves, mint and different herbs, green chili, coconut milk; too salty). No complains about the sides (garlic naans, mint prantha, vegetable prantha, pappad). The prices are a little on the higher side but not outrageous.
Overall, if you are in the area and crave Indian food, Swagat is not a bad place to go. But if you are craving Indian food and willing to travel, then there are better places to go.
