This is a strange, unconventional business model. When I pulled up into their limited parking, the first thing I saw was a takeout window. What would you get at that window? How would you order it? A canopy further back housed some checkout registers. But what if you wanted to buy groceries? Well, the grocery store was further behind that, and there's no separate cashier. You have to go into the store, buy any groceries you want, come outside, stand in line, order any fresh food or drinks, pay, and then go to the pickup window. I mean, at the end of the day it worked fine but it took some figuring out.
The store aspect had minimal produce and a significant number of niche specialty foods. I didn't find every single local item that I thought to look for, but I give them credit for having interesting things (time to try a Spicewalla chai!). The cafe had a small but vegetarian-friendly menu. Given my general tendency towards wanting to eat everything in sight, I decided this was the time to go for a kale salad. The salad contained a large amount of actual kale, a light dressing, and a few onions, seeds, and croutons. It had just enough flavor balance to convince me to wolf down all that slightly tough kale, but it was probably a good decision, health-wise. If I lived locally, I wouldn't buy everything here, but I'm sure I'd stop in regularly.
