Where to begin? Peeling paint in the bathroom. Peeling paint in the main room. Bed very soft. Toilet paper sitting on the back of the toilet. I wondered why there was no TP holder. But I found it later. It was in the shower of course. Right where the shower head was and above where the faucet handles were. Unpainted areas in the room. Numerous holes from various curtain rods, etc. throughout the room. Room had an outside entrance which is one of the reasons why I booked that particular room. But of course the key code lock did not work. Bathroom floor was in need of paint/stain very badly. Paid a cleaning charge for one of the days I was there. Guess what, no one ever cleaned the room. Billed as a Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast was continental with cold cereal, bagels one day, and some mini muffins. Which I had to admit the mini muffins were decent. But for the price I expected something hot, such as meat and eggs. And the price for this sub standard room.....$178.00 per night for a room that was worth maybe $40 per night. Giving them the benefit of the doubt. Service...no one to talk to about anything. Avoid this place like the plague! Worst place I have ever stayed in. Camping in a tent would have been preferable. What a joke! Toilet paper holder in the shower!! Unbelievable!

The Coach Room was 66 degrees when we checked in and the split on the wall did not work. The temperature was forecast to dip to the 40s that night. There was no one on site so we texted the number we were given for help. After an hour with no response we booked a hotel and left. We have still not heard back anything from the owners and it’s been more than 24 hours. Expedia has tried to get us a refund but apparently the owners are refusing. Also, the room was dirty and the toilet ran intermittently. See photo of closet floor with clothes bar on floor.

The negative reviews on Google were right! The Coach Room at the Swamp Rabbit Inn was 66 degrees when we checked in and the split on the wall did not work. The temperature was forecast to dip to the 40s that night. There was no one on site so we texted the number we were given for help. After an hour with no response we booked a hotel and left. We have still not heard back anything from the owners and several days. Expedia has tried to get us a refund but apparently the owners refused. Then the owners sent us a link, asking us to review on Trip Advisor. OK, gladly! The room was dirty and the toilet ran intermittently. See photo of closet floor with clothes bar on floor amidst hangers and broom and dustpan.

This was our 2nd experience at a Swamp Rabbit Inn property. The first time, we stayed at the Greenville location. I followed their page for years afterwards, which is how I learned about the Travelers Rest location. Otherwise, I would have never known that TR even existed! We opted for The Cottage, instead of the main inn. We wanted to have the whole place to ourselves for a true getaway. The Cottage definitely has that charming, cozy, atmosphere about it. There was plenty of room for six people, even though we ended up with four. The 2 bedrooms are huge, and you get 2 full bathrooms, which is a rare find. The beds were comfortable. The towels were big and fluffy. The only complaint my husband had was the TV’s are super small, and we couldn’t figure out how to work the TV in the master bedroom. To be fair, you don’t book a retreat at the base of the mountains to sit and watch TV all day:-) The Swamp Rabbit Inn is a viable option for accommodations in TR. As for bike rental, I recommend Freehub on Main St. in TR. We rented cruiser bikes from Freehub to ride the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the exterior and grounds of the property is in need of TLC. Also, they desperately need a bike shed at the TR location. If I was running this property, I would turn the studio into a bike shed instead of a 3rd guest room. It would add an extra incentive to keep this place “hopping!”

Really disappointing trip to the Inn at Travelers Rest. No character in the cottage, dirty outdoor furniture, dirty pool and broken cabana to look at from porch. Thermostat tricky to figure out and making it way too cold. A beeping sound from somewhere on the cottage disrupted our sleep. Took many texts and calls to main contact person to try to get it fixed. It wasn’t. Thank god we only booked two nights. I’m ashamed I spent so much money et for that. It was supposed to be a big treat but was a major disappointment. Go elsewhere!!

No staff member or owner was present at any time. Breakfast options were extremely limited. Not a good value in my opinion. The "shared bathroom" was three rooms and a hallway away from our bedroom, and was adjacent to the shared kitchen. TV did not work and no one responded to my request for assistance.

I stayed at the Traveler's Rest location with two of my teenage children for one night. I booked a room with two beds so I could share a bed with my daughter and my son could have his own bed. It was late when we arrived (around 10pm), and I used the code that was emailed to me to get into the room I booked. It would not work. I texted the number listed in the email for help with no response until the next morning. After 15 minutes of trying the code over and over again and waiting for a response, I realized that the second confirmation email I received said the door to my room was green and the name of the room was not the one I booked, but it was the room across the hall. The code worked for that room. There was a king size bed in this room. My son felt awkward sleeping in the bed with me and his sister, so he slept on the floor. I did not bother bringing it up to the inn because it was only for one night and I felt it was an honest mistake. It helped that my son didn't mind sleeping on the floor. I had to go back to the same area three weeks later and decided I'd give this place another try because our room was cute and I liked the location. I booked a room with a king sized bed in the main house. I was planning to be there with my two youngest children. Eight days before my reservation, I texted the number listed in my confirmation email about switching to a room with two beds because a friend offered to come as company since it was a long drive, and I had two little kids. I requested the coach house because it had two beds so my friend could have her own. I'm including screenshots of texts with whomever was responding to me. This person was willing to switch my room, but was slow to respond in the beginning, and eventually stopped responding to my texts. I tried calling, but they blocked my phone number. I ended up booking the second room and requested a refund for the first through email. In hindsight, I should not have booked the second room at all and just stayed somewhere, but I honestly thought that while person who was texting with me was terrible at communication, that didn't mean other employees would also be awful. I'm not sure there are other employees. Once I returned home, I used my husband's phone to call the number listed in the email, the same one I had been texting, and the same one that blocked my number. Unsurprisingly, the call from his number went through. Pam, the woman I finally spoke to on the phone, was incredibly rude. After reminding her that I WAS in communication with them about canceling the first room before the seven day period mentioned in their booking process, she agreed to refund the first room I booked. She sounded sketchy and I did not feel confident that she was being honest with me. When I pressed her on how much she would be refunding me, she became more angry and refused to give me an amount. After I asked several times for an amount, she finally gave me the amount of a full refund-which was over $600. She said she was submitting the refund "right now" while I was on the phone with her. The next day, there still was no credit to my bank account. I called from my husband's phone again, and. she said she already submitted a refund the day before. When I asked her to clarify the amount I should be looking for, she refused to tell me. I asked her to email me confirmation of the refund including the amount, and she said she was driving and would do it later. I have never received any communication from her and still no refund.|While I was at the inn, another guest came to ask if I had a way to get in touch with staff because he was having trouble. He said his bathroom door got locked with his stuff inside, and he was unable to get his belongings. He spoke to staff about it, but when he tried calling back, these were his words: "I know this sounds crazy, but I think they blocked my number. I can't get through to them anymore." Not crazy to me! I would NEVER recommend for someone to stay here. Pam is, by far, the worst person I have ever dealt with.

Google
The location was great but the property is run down and not well maintained. I specifically asked the owners before booking if their pool was open/working and they assured me it was. We arrived and the pool was filled about half way, lining peeling off the sides, bugs/trash/debris covering the bottom. Very disappointed in our stay. Huge wasp nest right outside our cottage door that had been there for a while based on its size.

Yelp
The location of the Swamp Rabbit Inn Travelers Rest is great. Everything else is not good. Very dirty Cottage and very neglected property as a whole. There are much better options than this overpriced Inn.

Yelp
Please do not give this establishment any more business than it has already received. We attended a charity auction last November and won a "day in TR" with a night at this bed and breakfast. What a treat and nice gesture by the ownership! The following May, we contacted the Innkeeper (see photos) to reserve our room. We were told that the coach house was available, and that we could use it for our stay. Great! Fast forward to this week, we reach out to confirm our reservation since we had not had anything further sent from the Innkeeper (although we had requested in several subsequent emails), and, after finally making contact with the Innkeeper, were told that they had not honored our original correspondence and had booked the coach house to a paying customer (vs our comped stay through a charitable donation). While bummed, we were good sports, and said we would stay in their "glamper" named Lola, since we had already made plans in our schedule for travel. We were still planning on having a great time in TR. So.. we arrive in TR today, and get to the property around 2 PM. The camper has cobwebs on the door handle, and we were very suspect of it. Nevertheless, we try reaching out to check in. When we spoke with Wendy on the phone, we were told that check in was at 4 PM and check in details would be sent to our email before then. 4 PM rolls around, nothing. 4:30, nothing. 4:50 we try calling, and receive a text back asking what we need. To check in, of course! Only problem, is that instead of prepping the secondary place for us, the ownership hasn't even cared to try and get it ready! They instead try to use some excuse that the AC doesn't work and the cleaning crew couldn't get it ready. (Again see photos of our texts) I would buy that excuse if there weren't spider-webs on the handle when we arrived. All Wendy had to do was own up to her mistakes BEFORE we traveled here. Say "you know what, I really messed up. I booked your room I had promised but can make it up xx weekend" Instead, we are scrounging to find last minute accomodations. Simply put, Wendy runs an inept operation, and cares more about putting money in her pocket than honoring prior commitments. Sure, we had bid on and won this charitable contribution for the stay, but when it came down to honoring it, Wendy has no decency to follow through on her end. Shameful. Please do not give her any more business.

Yelp
We stayed here during a recent visit to Greenville. Wow! If you think Greenville has changed over there years, so has TR! This Inn is great, although it's set back off the street and the signage is almost impossible to see at night. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of the pool, which was right outside our door. The common area was nice and roomy. You can walk to any number of nice places for dinner and/or a drink. The Inn has a cycling theme, and is directly across the street from the Swamp Rabbit Trail. We greatly enjoyed our stay here, and will likely return.

Yelp
Lovely and great location! I stayed in the coach house and it was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Kitchenette equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, and Keurig. RIGHT across the street is the Swamp Rabbit Biking/Hiking Trail. I highly recommend this adorable inn!

Yelp
Please please do NOT stay here. I am warning you. I booked a 2 night stay at the Swamp Rabbit in after receiving news that my apartment flooded. From the pictures and website information I thought this would be lovely stay. Let me tell you now, it was not. They are supposed to send you the check in code for the keyless entry and all info the morning of your checkin day. I received check in information HOURS after check in.That was after I REPEATEDLY tried contacting the Inn numerous ways (email, phone, website). Once I got to the Inn, the 4 digit check in code was incorrect. I tried calling the emergency line, once again, numerous times. We stood outside, on Christmas Day, in 20 degree weather for as long as we could before we realized we would have to stay at the hotel next door. I warn you--communication with this property is basically IMPOSSIBLE. I was finally able to get in touch with the owner the next morning and she profusely apologized and promised a refund. After 1 week of not receiving my refund, I sent an email and attempted to call to ask for an update. After 2 weeks, I sent another email and called. Both attempts I could not reach ANYONE. After 3 weeks, I have finally gotten intouch with the owner and she FINALLY issued a refund. Please, save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere else. There are better options around Travelers Rest. I have NEVER had such an awful experience with any hotel/Airbnb. I've also never left a review like this, but after such a hassle I would feel bad not warning others about my experience with the Swamp Rabbit Inn. There are numerous other reviews with the same complaints. I always love supporting local businesses, hence the reason I booked a stay here and not at a major hotel chain. Hopefully others have a better experience than what I did, and many others.

Yelp
DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE!!!! I'm incredibly disappointed in my dealings with the Swamp Rabbit Inn, Traveler's Rest, South Carolina and "0" Stars is a more appropriate rating. Pam, the owner, is completely non-communicative. I booked and paid for "The Queen's Studio" a month in advance as a gift for my daughter's 25th birthday. When my daughter and her husband arrived at the Inn (40 minutes away from their home) the pin-code given on the confirmation paperwork did not work to open the door. There was no staff on site, so my daughter tried to call the phone number for the manager, but the voice mailbox was full. Then she emailed the manager and got no response. I came all the way from California to give my daughter and her husband this special night away from their two small children (and it's just two month's before the birth of their 3rd little one) and there was "No Room at the Inn", or at least no door that would open. I called Booking.com, through which I ordered and paid for the room and they were able to reach Pam, the owner, who somehow lost track of my paid booking and neglected to prepare the room I reserved. The agent at Booking.com gave me Pam's personal number, and told me Pam was sorry for the mix-up, but she would accommodate my daughter at her husband at their Downtown Greenville Swamp Rabbit Inn (another 45 minute drive). My daughter called Pam's number 3x and I called twice and sent a text, but Pam never responded to either of us and at this point my very pregnant daughter and her husband had been standing in the rain, outside the inn for more than an hour with broken promises from both Pam and Booking.com. Booking.com said they could move the reservation to an Express Holiday Inn another 30 minutes away from Traveler's Rest for no additional charge (their advertised price was actually $47 cheaper on line, so we were offered no "deal" at all...no compensation for the trouble or disappointment...just an inflated price for a cheap room, so they wouldn't have to give me any money back). My daughter and her husband just came back home. NO special night away from the kids! NO 25th birthday gift!! NO apology!!! NO customer service!!!! NO NOTHING!!!!! I may or may not even get a refund?!?!?! I won't know for 7-14 business days Pam, you should be ashamed of yourself and your horrible business practices and Booking.com you should NEVER book rooms for the Swamp Rabbit Inn again. Sincerely, an incredibly UNSATISFIED customer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bella H.

Yelp
I'm surprised there aren't more reviews on Yelp. We stayed at one of the cottages and it was very nice. Just nice little touches that told me they cared. We've been traveling quite a bit with the kids and most of the time when I ask for pack and play, it's never avail in the room. We were pleasantly surprised to not only see it in the room but what a nice one it was! We made a point to bring our own since we question the cleanliness of hotel ones. Granola bars were great! Only complaint was lack of place to wash dishes. Dishes were provided along with tub, sponge and dish soap which was great but bathroom sink was only avail so any food particle couldn't be disposed of. Not sure if we could have used the kitchen in the main house but don't think that was explicitly stated therefore assumed we couldn't. Other than that, great stay. Walking distance to great restaurants.
